-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:
play.google.com/store/apps/details?id=com.simplemobilephotoresizer

Haven't made a kit in years, building a Zaku 2 2.0, finished painting all the armor pieces and decide to just do a flat dark grey for the inner frame. After drying I go to move the elbow joints to paint the previously unexposed parts and the dried paint just scrapes off the moving pieces like it's still wet. Guess that's one way to remember to leave the frame unless you don't plan to change poses.

Is 20 CAD good for the HG Hi-Zack
It's an older kit but I don't have many Titans kits, my Barzam requires a friend
>>
>>23804581
Yes. You can talk to actual scale modellers, gradually building up color is way to go, especially if you paint white or other low coverage light shades. Military green with layer of olive green for a tank might work, yellow or white will need more work than that.
>>
>>23804578
Every japanese youtuber I watch seems to use Gaia notes, but only Mr.Color and Valejo are accessible in my cunt.
>>
>>23804586
Mr color has pink and brown primers, you can try those if you don't want to use black
>>
>>23804582
For a 2000 mold, you probably won't have a good time, but $20 CAD is pretty cheap so I'd say go for it.
>>
>>23804586
Then use what you have. Or Tamiya if you want lacquer primer, that company is available everywhere. Why you have to blindly follow every Japanese guy, instead of doing what they do - use locally available stuff?

The seamlines are very unfortunate, but something about the design is endearing, and I'm running out of $20 kits to get. I'm not sure if the plastic for the tubes will handle pour-type markers, but worst-case I can just ignore them. It's just a stupid Zaku but something about the design seems to plead "pick me, I'm doing my best too!"
Is the Marasai basically the same quality as well? Iirc its seam lines were identically unfortunate, it's a few dollars more though.

Also I doubt she is like Zack who pre-snips/trims/sands all the parts before the stream and just does assembly.
>>
>>23804939
Nah, I just didn't care to comment on it since buying from Delpi's website is only really worth it if you're going to bulk-buy for your backlog. For small individual kits, you're honestly better off searching on Ali since there are easier ways to circumvent getting raped by shipping.

Also, HG kits just generally aren't worth putting the money into watersliding, unless they're mobile armor sized.
>>
>>23804955
>yeah that's a long time
That's pretty normal for a kit of that era. The polycaps really slow things down. I remember building Doven Wolf and it took me like 4 hours.

>>23804953
I am making some mild fun of him, I am not seething, anon. Not everything in here is said in anger/mockery. Delphi Anon is part of /gpg and sometimes he has an bot like quality to pop up when waterslides are mentioned so it feels empty of he does not.

The Langstrump ("Longstocking") sports tall human-like legs with powerful thighs to accomodate fencing footwork. Its pilot, Natacha Zhen, a swordplay maniac whose combat philosophy is to win with a single strike, always aims for surgical thrusts and slashes to the cockpit.

The flight unit enables deft evasion while scouting for opportunity, and its burst thrusters allows for high velolicty lunges. To maintain mobility, the suit is equipped with extra light armor plating and uses a shield mostly to parry melee attacks and create openings, it cannot sustain concentrated fire.

Zhen's vast sword techniques repertoire goes from French escrime to comprehensive kenjutsu. The Langstrump's scabbard units can launch the stored hilts like missiles- if the suit is holding the handles during the burst and activates the blades with the right timing, it can unleash a devastating iai assault.

When the Byron invasion began to drag on, the Earth Alliance welcomed any volunteer into its ranks, regardless of background, ethnicity or age. Yet when Hiroki Hojo, well past the years most soldiers were quietly retired, answered the call, he was met with skepticism. On the battlefield, however, he defied expectations. Demonstrating uncanny spatial awareness and impeccable timing, he consistently outperformed younger pilots in close-quarters engagements. In environments where long-range systems were compromised, like dense urban zones or debris fields, he would close distance with precision, disabling enemy units with minimal collateral damage. His combat style was described by squadmates as “deliberate, almost ceremonial,” yet ruthlessly effective. Backed by an exceptional combat record, high command authorized a dedicated customization program, resulting in a heavily modified unit tailored to his philosophy.

The result was the eEXM-17J, later christened “Akaitsuki”, “The Red Moon”, by its pilot, designed for for brutal, high-speed close-range combat. Relatively lightly armored, save for its massive samurai-inspired shoulder plates where it proudly bears the historical Hojo clan mon alongside pilot personal crest. Massive thrusters, previously used on Alto Flight Type model and further modified with additional units, grant extreme mobility, but render the unit dangerously unstable and nearly impossible to operate for anyone other than its designated pilot. The head unit has been enhanced with advanced radar and optical systems, improving battlefield awareness during high-speed engagements. Its primary weapon is an enormous blade, nearly the length of the machine itself, wielded with terrifying precision and striking fear into any unit forced into close combat. Despite his disdain for ranged warfare, Hiroki reluctantly accepted a compact plasma rifle mounted beneath a support shield, used primarily for suppression and disruption while closing distance.

Lt. "Dirty" Richard became an ace during the second Neo-Zeon war piloting a GMIII that was one of the "lucky" upgraded units, converted all the way from a GM used in the OYW. He was known for making surprisingly accurate long range fire with the default GMIII beam spray gun. Early in UC0093, he got on an Admiral's shitlist after he tapped and ghosted the Admiral's red headed daughter. This left him stuck assigned to a GMIII long after Jegans were rolled out to the vast majority of the Earth forces. Then in 0097, he found a Beam Magnum floating around in some debris he was in charge of cleaning up. After using it to defeat a few pirates, his maintenance chief sent a message to AE for the manuals since it had their serial numbers on it. He was told, "No idea what that is, we never made it," and, "How did you not blow your arm off?" and "Here is the manual for fixing it and some spare parts."It also seemingly placed Richard on an even blacker list, as his retirement paperwork was never processed. He had to keep using the GMIII, even through UC 0115 where he is now being sent on a patrol mission around Mars to clear out supposed pirates messing with the energy fleet. His GM is now so ancient that it is older than most of the maintenance crew and suspiciously there are museum inventory stickers on some of the parts he has gotten recently...

However there are rumors that suggest that the unit may be home to several "unofficial" aces given the unit's ability to suppress bases with ruthless efficiency.

Girard Carranza, Gjallarhorn's infamous Pirate Hunter, operates a high-spec version of the now widely adopted Reginlaze. This version emphasizes mobility to accommodate Girard's eclectic style of swordfighting. An unwary foe caught in the path of its rare metal sword risks having their machine's frame itself cut to pieces. Its gauntlets can be used to block heavy blows, or as back up weapons if the rare metal sword is not an option. A 150mm shotgun is part of Girard's preferred loadout for ranged combat. The highly sensitive controls on this suit require the utmost discipline and focus, making it something very few Gjallarhorn pilots can handle. A hefty bounty has been placed on both Girard and his Reginlaze by the pirates of the Mars sphere. Hardly any have been foolish enough to try and claim it.

The Zaku I Commander type "Valencia" belongs to a OYW Ace that never changed his Zaku I throughout the entire conflict, but gradually upgraded his mobile suit to adapt through the war.
It's internals are up-to-date by regular standards such as new and power thrusters and backpack, and have added extra armaments to suit the pilot's needs. This includes the rapid-fire Raketen Bazooka, the 90mm Machine Gun, the Zaku Bazooka, the Heat Sword, early type Heat Hawk, a missile pod, a Sturm faust, and the Gouf's shield attached to its arm.

Performance-wise, it is able to match toe-to-toe with most Federation models but can still struggle against actual Gundams. It's loadout allows it to hit quick and fast before entering close combat.
The missile pod can be jettisoned when fully spent, along with it's other weaponry.
The pilot's weapon of choice during close combat are the Heat Sword and Heat Hawk, dual wielding them with both skill and intimidation.

The pilot is also accompanied by his teammates who are in the Dom Test type and a Gefangener GM.

Tobin Blaylock pilots a modified RGM-79C GM Type C. After sustaining heavy damage during the Battle of Jaburo, his machine has been outfitted with surplus parts from the newly-developed GM Command Type the high-output thrusters of a GM Sniper II. This added mobility has led to many of his fellow pilots at the battles of both Solomon and A Baoa Qu calling his machine the GM High Mobility Type. Its armament is a Beam Rifle, specifically one similar in appearance to the beam rifle used by the RX-78NT-1 Gundam.

Wade Blaylock's personal machine is an MS-06FZ Zaku II FZ. There's nothing particularly special about his machine, aside from the left shoulder pauldron being that of an MS-07B Gouf and the right shoulder shield being coloured red. This Gouf shoulder pauldron once belonged his commander's machine, whom was slain and Wade wanted to commemorate. The red colour on his Zaku II FZ's shoulder shield is to symbolize blood. He also prefers using an MS-grade shotgun to the standard-issue Zaku machine gun.

Tobin Blaylock and Wade Blaylock would meet during the Battle of Jaburo, where they would nearly kill each other during a battle that was much a political argument as it was a fight to the death. Wade nearly destroyed Tobin's GM Type C and the battle would turn to a fistfight, which culminated with Tobin nearly strangling his brother to death. Unable to kill his brother, Tobin simply let Wade go and allow him to reflect upon the truth of Zeon's evil deeds. Seven years later, the two brothers would reunite as members of the AEUG and piloted either Nemos or GM IIIs, fighting from the Gryps Conflict until the end of the first Neo Zeon war.

An original one year war gogg originally owned by the ace pilot known as the green pirahna. He gained notoriety in securing the gulf of mexico. After the war the suit was smuggled off the earth by its pilot and they made their way to Mars. In U.C. 120 the original pilot passed the gogg down to his granddaughter, Merrybell Hardy, for her to serve in the Mars Zeon Independence Army. However, she seems more interested in it as a precious tool to be free of Mars.

DISCLAIMER: All photos are taken with deceptive camera angles and trickery to make her seem larger than she really is. Her reasons for doing this are a mystery.

And now, to decide the next theme. Not only is this going to be the 30th Groupbuild, but 2026 marks the 10 year anniversary of running the Groupbuilds in these threads. As such I'm gonna do something a bit different this time around. In addition to the 4 runner up themes from last time around, I am going to automatically include every previous runner-up theme that has yet to be done. Your starting list of themes are:

>Mahou Shoujo
>Zeon
>Squad
>Silly
>Animal
>Armored Up
>Criminal
>Elemental
>Giant Weapons
>Gundam Frame
>Kitbash
>Knocked Out
>Leo
>Monoeye
>Mythological
>Restoration
>Royal
>Salvaged
>Stealth
>Stolen
>Super Robot
>Urban Warfare
>Vintage
>Winter Warfare
>Witch From Mercury

The only exceptions are themes that I rolled into similar themes (Pantheon > Mythological, Duo > Squad, etc) and Gruntify (Which is basically just the opposite of the theme we just did, taking an Ace MS and turning it into a grunt suit, kinda boring theme to follow up with IMO).

You're free to suggest themes in addition to these for the next two threads or so, so feel free to suggest em!

More anime accurate, and better joints. Surface detail is sacrificed in favor of less obvious seam engineering. Though the newer hasegawa kits are just as good as plamax kits in regards to seam magement while still retaining the high+finer surface details though the joints are still jank as shit.

I don't have much experience with either but going off of the manual it looks like a much simpler build compared to the Hasegawa VF-0 battroid that I've partially built. I think it'll be a lot easier to put this one together and paint it vs the Hasegawa one. The Hasegawa one has a lot more surface detail that I need to rescribe and some fairly annoying seams to deal with.

Ok I don't know how I've gone 10 years without missing an entry then on the same day miss two entries. I guess that's what I get for downloading everything one day then making the images the next without double checking. Maybe I'm just getting old.

BURST HAIL was initially a standard Jo-Hound deployed into a contested mountainous region to counter incursions by neighboring countries. The machine was retrofitted at the pilot's request with an on-board scanning radar array and multi-mode radar/thermal seeking missiles scavenged from obsolete weapons platforms. Due to the volume of both aerial and ground threats in the incursions, the pilot also demanded a more sustainable weapon system for countering close targets of both types. The military commissioned a pair of gatling cannons which could be operated simultaneously and use targeting data from the scanning radar array or direct visual data to acquire any nearby enemy and deliver overwhelming firepower. Due to the overall weight of all the added equipment, an additional pair of legs need to be attached when using the gatling cannons.

I am eternally grateful sir
side note, it's pretty obvious but a handful of these parts are 3d printed. Definitely recommend a resin printer for anyone who wants to use one for plamo, the fdm surfaces are too rough in general and honestly don't take paint very well. I was not going to go get another different printer over it though.
>>
>>23805473
You can putty the surfaces also before painting, might be a bit difficult to do on flat parts though.
>>
>>23805463
It's what I wanted to do way back in the non-bipedal groubuild, but back then I had no talent (yes, even less than now). And no 3d printer. And no spare jo-hound legs. It all came around though.
>>23805477
I also thought of that but way too late in the process and without enough time to fix it... Maybe next time.
>>
So 15 entries? Thass big, especially if gbd keeps unlocking secret characters
>>
>>23805489
Another trick that I've seen used is for the surfaces that show the layer lines the most is to make them inset a bit, then on another print print the "side" in the other orientation and then glue it into place. It's easier than sanding off all the layer lines and has the texture of your print bed instead.

>Hell, the free decals that come with the $6 Bootleg GTO GMs are also good.
When I started buying bootlegs, one of the things that surprise was that the decals are actually pretty damn good. The kits themselves might have minor flaws here and there that need fixing, but the decals have always been solid so far. Water decals genuinely need to be the norm for all bandai kits.
>>
>>23805738
With a few exceptions (WeiMei decals suck balls), they're mostly great. I think its because trying to produce them cheaply by making the decals as thin as possible makes them blend in perfectly after a bit of mark setter. Its also a nice bit of convenience not having to source decals for a specific kit. To this day, I still can't find a 144 scale Rick Dom decal sheet, and I really want to collect all the rick dom variants too.

Outside of what he said, the Bandai Water slides don't include all the stickers, so you will still end up with some stickers (at least on the VF-29). Also there are a ton of stickers/decals on the Frontier/Delta VFs due to how complicated their paint schemes are.

The kit submitted is treated as fully operational at the size it's submitted. For example, a 10cm tall Exia is treated as fully functioning 10cm tall Exia with functioning blade and blaster that can actually cut and leaves a hole, and is treated as a separate entity that doesn't represent it's original sized counterparts(if not treating the source materials as non-existent)
Participants are free to submit their entry at any size they want, be it as small as 3 cm tall, or as big as a tall buildings like the usual mobile suit if they can afford to.

The main idea of this theme is what's the purpose of the entry and why is it designed at that size. A good example of this theme is HoiHoi san, a 11.5 cm tall maid robot that are designed to kill pests that happen to be very customizable.
Other use includes desktop assistance, as communication device, delivery of small package or espionage and assassination.

That said, if the theme ended up becoming to wide, I am okay if the groupbuild dude decided to simply limit it to Micro Mecha theme instead.

I think there's a lock or something on the underside but I can't remember. I don't want to take my V2AB apart and I never built the spare corefighters so I don't have them sitting around to fiddle with.
>>
>>23806344
I am more into 30MM theme at this point, it's just that the gundam is quite standard for this thread and to push the point of 1:1 where they can't just use the model to represent the original size
>>
>>23805348
I do like most of their selections other than SD EXes, I know people got a Psyco Gundam Mk II or a Narrative from the $100+ box, but I have no idea what I'm in for. That and there's always worries about getting dupes

30MM is just literally Not-Zaku and Not-GM. A true game changer should be a Tamiya group build. The kits are very common on the market and actually something most of anons here would feel challenged because they will have to build something they don't enjoy.
>>
>>23806417
I don't really remember having any issues with it but it's been a few years now since I built my V2s and thus played with the corefighter/transforming elements.

I don't have the HG, but the front flap of the shoulders can rotate upward at about 70-80 degrees and the back flap of the shoulder bends a little bit. Can't bring the arm all the way up, I feel the shoulders limit it but it's still quite good.

The locking mechanism is a bit weird as you half push in, then go back to fiddle with something, then commit to the movement.

Comes in white, Titans blue, Black Hares black and ReZeon red.

You'll need to buy a HG TR-6 and a Kehaar II DLC before fitting all this though. EW bootlegged all of it already so even with Trump tariffs going on, this all should still come cheaper than Bandai's take on the Advanced Kehaar II.

If they are really interested in specific thing you do (Warhammer, Plamo, other crafting hobbies) is another question, but, in general, womanfolk are impressed if you show them something you made yourself, even if they don't react or mock you for it. The ones that just say they think it is cool when they think it is cool are the best ones. I hope said girl becomes your qt Plamo gf, my dude.

i dunno if it's meant to be like that or chinks can't into scaling (right figure is Nether Emperor's pilot figure)
>>
>>23807150
Chinks bootlegs the scale as well so it's not quite the same. Their 1/12 is closer to 1/10 rather than actual 1/12 for example.
>>
>>23807150
Chinese people are really short, so the size difference tracks.
>>
>>23807150
Are the scaling autists now going to start targeting 3rd party original designs? How do YOU know that's not an accurate 1/100 scale to how that unit would be in the SNAA cinematic universe?

Does anyone actually like this design?
>>
>>23807179
I like it
>>
>>23807162
NTA, Chang OC kits are very Gundam inspired, including the exact scaling sysyem Bandai uses for gunpla so most of people expect it to be around the similar size in-universe ( if there is one ). When they said the kit in in 1/144, you know it is gonna be pocket sized. When they said 1/100, you know it is gonna be huge.
>>
>>23807182
But I've built a couple of the 1/144 SNAA kits. They're very tall for 1/144, keeping in line with how tall their 1/100 kits are. The few I have are taller than the RG Unicorn in destroy mode, like only a little beneath a standard Bandai MG.
>>
>>23807179
I like everything but the big yellow beak gut
>>
>>23807186
The thing is Unicorn, Sazabi, Xi, etc have actual novels you can read and anime you can watch. The real demonstration of their in-universe scale justifies the kit's size. SNAA mech however, is just a make believe kind of scale so people automatically link this scale to the standard Gundam size approx. 16 to 19 meters tall. However the 1/144 kits ended up being around 18 to 20cm tall which is just another Chinese hyper inflation bullshit because are incapable of making actual small kits.
>>
>>23807149
yeah, I prefer their BE (1/144) line. 15-16cm like late UC MG. Their scaling is nonsense dogshit.
>>
This must be the most dogshit Gloss coat ever.
it's just clear without the gloss!
>>
>>23807201
SNAA is just merely pretending to make 1/144 kits. Sheik Mainland and Effect Wings are the real short kings.
>>
>>23807205
I have it. The thing is gloss.
>>
>>23807179
I don't like the colours that much but I do like the overall design. FA Gundam is cooler overall though even if the power cables on Perfect are cool as fuck.

>>23807213

>>
>>23807212
FA Gundam has a more ultilitarian looks and gives a stronger impression. Perfect Gundam feels abit silly to me because it looks like a 1/144 head slapped on a 1/100 body.
>>
>>23807179
I do.
>>
>>23807223
Yeah I agree mostly. I think FA Gundam coulda had a power cable somewhere though, maybe to the cannon or the double beam rifle. I think the Perfect's shoulders and legs are pretty cool though. The much bigger feet are also pretty cool. There are some Perfects around in "real" colours and they look nice, but the arms and torso always look pretty toyish.
>>
>>23807227
Lore-wise, PG is a custom plamo built by a child so i wouldn't complain about the thing looking like a toy. The body proportion needs to be redo badly however.
>>
>>23807228
Sure, I'm aware, it's fine for what it is. Just my own taste of the design overall.
