>>23809969As someone who owns every JP copy of the game, backed the kickstarter to daki tier, owns multiple model kits and figures. I absolutely despise the way the entire franchise has gone, I refused to watch the anime over the voice changes but I don't feel like you can really blame Kouki himself for being anything other than being a corpo mouthpiece and a sellout for a long time, much like Maro for MtG he's just a lapdog at this point and isn't going to publicly shit on the people who own him unless it's something they say he's allowed to complain about to try and market something. It's pretty clear the whole franchise has been a total mess for over a decade at this point, there's no heart or soul in anything. age for all purposes doesn't exist anymore since ixtl/avex and the IP just gets whored out because suits think that alone is popular enough. Remember when we used to get april fools jokes, birthday illustrations? Changing VAs is very uncommon nowadays but used to be common practice, VA companies wanting to push new talent might support the anime production, Avex themselves are a entertainment conglomerate it's all just connections and money not about making a good product that the fans want anymore. It's far best to just enjoy what we got, maybe new merch or art and give up expecting anything new with any passion in. That said the entire VN industry is dead or dying. It's not fair to say the old fans are the problem but bigger budget VNs themselves are too niche (eroge even more so when they can't be sold on consoles/phones) to support the modern profit suits demand or even production costs. So many big companies have died, even companies like Alicesoft had most of the old talent leave because business types inside just wanted gacha, KEY are making gacha. Everything GIGA did with Baldrhead after Sky was awful but they're dead. Nitroplus barely hanging on. Muv Luv only "survived" by being consumed in the way it was.
If I want to read Total Eclipse is the Steam version best? Any fanpatch or translation fixes I should be aware of?
>>23829525There may be no future for Muv Luv, but we're in a new golden age for translations of the pre-existing VNs. Those Russians, shit on them for the war as much as you want, they're the ones keeping the flame alive through their work on hacking open RUGP and allowing the first new translation projects since AltPro got brought up, consumed and spat out by Avex. They translated Kaseki no Uta last year, went in and fixed KimiNozo and recently publicly announced we're getting Akane Maniax later this year. And I heard KimiIta's on their list as well. The Muv Luv fan base never ceases to amaze me. No matter how much despair, they refuse to give in. aNCHOR might mismanage themselves into a billion yen hole, but the fans will keep the flame of life alive.
>>23829505it's nowhere close to being the opposite, in one of these the properties are being bought for several times the market price and sending people on an all expenses paid vacation, in the other they're being asked to forcefully evict people without compensation in a country that's already been half destroyed and struggling, with the possibility of intense political backlash
>>23829525O wise man of much fandomsWas there any point in the past when a different path taken could've saved the franchise, or was it always doomed?
>>23829797I mean in both cases people are being moved out of their homes. Yeah, it's not the exact opposite, in one case it's probably voluntary with compensation, in the other it's not. But how ethical is it really? Did the children in the families have any say in this? Would they have prefered to stay in their homes, despite their parents' willingness to move out in exchange for money/vacations? Who knows lol. It's still ironic that Meiya makes people relocate from their homes while being so opposed to the notion later on, even if the circumstances are quite different.
>>23829525>I absolutely despise the way the entire franchise has goneI thought something similar yesterday but more in the sense of being disappointed. I may be a minority in this but I ultimately only liked Muv-Luv and Alternative. None of the spin-offs, (pseudo-)sequels or extra stories did much for me, I couldn't even really get into TDA, though it wasn't bad at all. Haven't read Schwarzesmarken, maybe that could still change my mind, but overall I have the impression that much potential has been squandered 20 years after MLA.
>>23829533That's actually pretty nice to hear! I knew about KimoNozo getting fixed up but I hadn't heard any news about the rest.>>23829905Probably not because it's pretty much the entire VN industry, maybe if VNs in general had been much quicker to bring things to the global market, translate titles, done a better TL job and got them on Steam but even then who knows. SenrenBanka probably outsold entire other VN companies ranges alone with how well it did with the Chinese market on Steam, outside of that though the major successes are just meme stuff that got picked up like Nekopara or DDLC. Extra->Unlimited has a great twist but I just think longer VNs themselves are too niche for a wider audience. If age had gone the anime route a lot earlier and it had been done well and a huge success I think that could have helped a lot in just generating awareness, look at Steins;Gate but even then it's not like the SciADV stuff did particularly well outside of that so who knows. The kickstarter did great but was handled like shit and at that point it was more of a dying beg.KEY have gacha but Heaven Burns Red feels like it has love put into it with Maeda writing and composing for it at least, all the attempts at branching out ML into anything else have just been massive failures and bad products with bad writing. It's the same with a lot of other VN companies who tried, they're just suit cashgrabs thinking they be the next FGO instead of a passionate product or story someone wanted to make.age themselves just had so many problems though, total eclipse was a mess, the game had the tracing scandal and the whole rushed end. The anime blew all the budget in the first few episodes. Schwarzesmarken was just a mess, no clue why they even bothered with an anime with how it was TE at least served as an expensive buy the VN to see the rest advert. Despite how much I love the Muv Luv universe it was probably treated as too much of a cashcow instead of making something new.
>>23829964I think the problem is that Unlimited/Alt works so well because of Extra and the emotional aspect, even if not you the reader it's a core part of all the character development. When you remove that twist you have a well developed grimdark mecha franchise but it's hard to say that mecha itself hasn't been on a decline the past decades. I enjoyed TE and TDA for what they were but that's because I like mecha and the setting itself. They're not good standalone works and are just fandiscs for ultra fans.KimiNozo is worth checking out at least because it has some engaging drama and character development but obviously no mechs. At least we got Baldr Sky and Muramasa finally translated for that though.
>>23829914ok retard
>>23829914>But how ethical is it really? Did the children in the families have any say in this? Would they have prefered to stay in their homes, despite their parents' willingness to move out in exchange for money/vacations?First, free market baby. Just blame the adults. Also, Meiya relocating is more about her imposed destiny in her new environment rather than the friends she left behind. Takeru literally only spent one afternoon with her lmao.Second, a kid moving somewhere else in the lap of luxury with his dear family is not the same as an old person being forced to leave their homeland. I mean an old person who grew up there and raised a family, knowing damn well they will never return. Obviously, Takeru's flashback and the story of the lady on the mountain are meant to be a parallel. But that doesn't really apply to Meiya and Takeru's kid neighbors. For starters, you are just assuming information.Lastly, the whole thing is just a freaking joke lmao. It is completely absurd that she has enough money to make everyone around Takeru's house relocate, and it is even more absurd that they cleared the land that fast
>>23830075also the houses went back up overnight when she left
>>23830091Maybe Meiya really was just a dream...
>>23829905not him but Kouki has explained that the only reason Avex was interested in buying the franchise was because the Kickstarter made a million bucks and generated a ton of news articles all over the world.Basically, everyone that backed the kickstarter including me doomed the franchise through good intentions. They were already in financial trouble back then, but I honestly believe that without the kickstarter they would have just continued to shit out low budget products for many more years. Even if they had went bankrupt they probably wouldn't have sold the IP because it wasn't worth shit, and could have always returned to it later.
>>23830075I'll respond when I've reread that part in Unlimited, still going through Extra. These are good points but I still think it might be contradictory because Meiya basically argued on the basis of the sanctity of one's home and being deeply rooted in the land and place that one inhabits and has been brought up in. I'd just view this as a contrast between the Extra Meiya who is more inclined to view things in terms of financial transcations and economic exchange, and the Meiya who is closer to imperial values of the Shogun and has also witnessed the destruction of the global economy.
>>23829512How Diogenes.
>>23830091>>23830097Thinking back on that moment, as absurd as it was for this anime princess to whisk away all people near Takeru to be his direct neighbor, the instance that she disappears and everything went back to 'normal' was heartbreaking.Meiya being that grandiose existence that was humanized to the point that when she left, despite putting everything back as it was, it actually left a bigger hole than could be realized.
>>23830232Meiya didn't argue about the sanctity of the house per se. She talked about the wishes of the people. The lady on the mountain didn't want to leave her home because of a legitimate emotional reason, which was tied directly to her home. The focus is on their desires and freedom, and the contrast between what we do as citizens and what the nation gives us in return> I'd just view this as a contrast between the Extra Meiya who is more inclined to view things in terms of financial transcations and economic exchange, and the Meiya who is closer to imperial values of the Shogun and has also witnessed the destruction of the global economy.I mean, you could maybe make a point about it using other examples. But I don't think it is a serious issue here. Yeah, she wanted to buy Takeru with gifts, but she didn't force him or anyone else. She didn't even want to remind him of their past together. In the end, Meiya respects what a person truly believes. She wants people to live freely and follow their desires, as long as they are fair. She basically projects her own desire for freedom onto others.
>>23830316She didn't really want to buy Takeru she presupposed that Takeru was hers and she wanted to show her devotion and love and she did that through generosity, partially due to a slightly warped worldview. Which, as to your later point, is reflected in not coercing him into anything and how much she cared about him remembering, and is seen in the finale with how hesitant she is about dragging him into her life.
>>23830218Most likely age would have shit out a few more fandisc short stuff and then have shutdown if not for it, minori, Light, sprite, GIGA so many big eroge companies closed.Muv Luv's main strength was also it's world building rather than it's scenario writing, both it and KimiNozo heavily relied on the twists but utsuge very much fell out of fashion in the 2010s in favor of moege. Scenario writing in general was a huge problem with after Alternative even before selling the IP.In the end VNs themselves just cost too much for how niche they ultimately are. Programmers, writers, illustrators, producers, seiyuu, composers. If a VN bombs it really hurts the company because you're releasing an entire story at once unlike an LN or mobage where you can adjust to reader feedback. These production cost figures from a 2013 interview always felt like made up bullshit but the sales figures are pretty accurate:>minori producter nbkz noted that it takes about 30 million yen (about US$300,000) to make a title of a certain level of quality. However, the budgets of minori's own Supipara and ef titles exceeded 100 million yen (US$1 million). He explained this is mainly due to CG costs, particularly due to users' higher screen resolutions and PC specs. His company releases only one game per year.>Sakai said that in the last decade, a super hit sold 100,000 copies, a big hit sold 30,000, and a regular hit sold 20,000. However, a game would be a hit now with only 10,000 copies — with Japan having a population of 100 million over the age of 18, that means only 0.01% are buying these games. To explain the declining sales, Sakai said that this is the age where entertainment has diversified with YouTube, Niconico, social games, and multiple game systems such as the PlayStation 3, PSP, and Nintendo 3DS. Eroge also have too many problems due to R18 content not allowing them anywhere, even Steam regularly stops a lot of VNs from releasing despite allowing porn games
>>23830218I don't think I'd agree. I think absent the Kickstarter they'd have gone under by about 2018/19 or so. What the kickstarter did was given them an extra decade to continue making the same mistakes that got them into that hold. It's very clear that the financial situation was desperate after Total Eclipse failed to be an Alternative-level success. I've really come to loathe TE, because it more than anything ensured that the 'franchise' would fail to get off the ground. âge's strength was good writing. It's what made KimiNozo and the Muv Luv Trilogy smash successes. Sure, the sprite work was impressive, but the storytelling is what really allowed them to catch on. Total Eclipse threw all that out the window. The storytelling in TE is awful, the characters are undercooked (Argus have barely any character at all next to Squad 207 from the trilogy) and the romance betrays a very real issue with all the post-Alternative stories, which is the protagonist passively sitting there whole being orbited by a harem's worth of woman, right up until the plot needs him to choose someone. Yuuya and Cryska, Hibiki and Yuzuka, Theodor gets it worse because there is no romance between him and Irisdina at all in her so-called route. Without good storytelling and compelling and relatable characters, all we have is the Mecha and the aliens, and they alone couldn't carry the franchise as >>23829986 correctly observes. The money lost on TE shows as everything post it is slowly whittled down in quality until we get something like War Ensemble, with big blocks of text on static PNGs because they can't afford to make sprites and actually animate the story as a proper VN.1/2
>>23831084 2/2What I think is interesting is how the completely squandered the second chance the Kickstarter gave them. They had that Avex money, and what did they do with it? Mikhail, a game that was broken, buggy, and required knowledge of an untranslated VN in order to understand the story. Reading Kaseki after it came out last year actually made bits of Mikhail make sense, who Isphana and Astana were, what the Mikhail system even was. But the game was awful. And of course we have to talk about the unmitigated disaster that was Immortals/Dimensions. Nothing screams incompetence more than giving a complete nobody money and the IP to try and fail to make the third shitty Gacha. Muv Luv's obsession with making its own Fate Grand/Order ties in with what everyone else has said about the decline of the VN industry as a whole, but the fact they've now tried it five times goes beyond any kind of sanity or sense. They had their second chance, and it ended with aNCHOR a billion yen in the red, and nothing to show for it. Honestly, the fact they were given another shot and not only missed, but shot themselves in the dick multiple times, seems to be proof that the Muv Luv IP is either cursed, or just never made to sustain a franchise on its own.If Resonative and Integrate were just going to be more of the same, then I'm honestly glad they'll never see the light of day. What I heard of Resonative didn't fill me with hope, with Kouki straight-up contemptuous of Luxin's story and characters and planning to take it over and have his characters take the spotlight. If that's the attitude he has, he deserves the outcome he earned through his mismanagement.
>>23831084I hate TE because there's so many parts and aspects about it I really like but it's just so underwhelming. To me the characters have solid bases but just don't get any real development or really anything, the conspiracy stuff and tension between the nations had the potential to be really great but ended up just feeling like a mess, the test pilots doing test pilot things has a nice Unlimited like vibe but doesn't do anything with it and then the climax just felt like hot garbage. The romance being so underwhelming is made even worse by the fact there's no routes, why even bother with harem baiting if that's the case. I can only imagine it was meant to have routes but the tracing situation fucked things up and delaying it more would have crippled the expected momentum they hoped for from having the anime end where it did but who knows, if that really was the case then you would think they would have made a complete edition a few years later but I guess they didn't want to sink any more into it. It's character designs honestly feel wasted on a non-eroge too...Also sucks that we only ever got Remastered for the TL which for whatever reason is uglier than the original with the awful UI, font and textboxes

Kouki fell in love with his own creation, and threw out everything that had make KimiNozo and the Muv Luv trilogy smash successes.Though honestly, it's Miyata Sou who destroyed âge. Those kinds of Visual Novels were and remain very expensive to make, and when they had to essentially remake Total Eclipse from scratch after his tracing was uncovered, âge suffered a financial hit they never recovered from. The real painful fact is they got a second chance with the Trilogy Kickstarter, and then just completely blew it. Not many get a second chance, and to then completely piss it all away is next-level incompetence.

>>23843824Kouki:You could say Muv-Luv is the story of the main heroine, Sumika Kagami. But what she actually did at the very end was the creation of what we call the FINAL EXTRA world. She erased the parallel worlds where Takeru and the other heroines were happy, and as an act of atonement since she was the cause of that, she recreated a world where all the heroines have a fair chance to become Takeru's lover. And she completely erased all of Takeru's memories regarding the ALTERNATIVE world. If you consider what happens to Vietnam or Iraq war veterans when they return to normal society, you'll understand that erasing his memories was Sumika's kindness. Furthermore, she revived Yuuhi, who was supposed to be dead, and reconstructed Kasumi—who didn't even exist in the EXTRA world—using the residual matter from the ALTERNATIVE world that made up Takeru. But, is that really a happy ending? Is losing not just the harsh experiences and terrible memories that fueled your growth, but also all the joyful things and moving experiences, just to return to being a carefree high schooler, truly a happy ending? Personally, I mixed a bit of irony in there. You have to think carefully about what actually lies behind the typical "happy ending" pattern. On the other hand, if a player noticed that intent, I'm not sure if they'd be happy about it. After all, it can be interpreted as a denial of happiness. That's why, initially, I didn't want to do FINAL EXTRA. However, the market data dictated that the plot needed to end on a happy note, so I somehow reached a compromise and shaped it into that form.https://www.4gamer.net/games/032/G003242/20170308058/index_2.html
Oh hey, the chick from episode 00 is back
>>23844864>She erased the parallel worlds where Takeru and the other heroines were happy, and as an act of atonement since she was the cause of that, she recreated a world where all the heroines have a fair chance to become Takeru's lover. This doesn't make much sense unless she erases the very structure of the multiverse. The point of a multiverse is that there are parallel worlds with different outcomes. There is Extra world 1 where Takeru-1 chooses Meiya-1, Extra world 2 where Takeru-2 chooses Ayamine-2 etc. Now Beta-Sumika "erases" all these worlds and replaces them with the world of Final Extra, basically killing the inhabitants of the original worlds? Doesn't make sense. This would have been something Takeru himself would have tried to prevent. There are many different Takerus but only one was pulled into the Beta world by Beta Sumika. It would have made more sense to have replaced the one Extra world that Takeru got pulled out from with Final Extra rather than invalidate the entire multiverse structure itself.
>>23844934I'm still not sure why they chose this structure. Will and Lilia are basically irrelevant after episode 0. Would have preferred to see a bit more of Takeru instead of an entire episode of characters who then basically disappear.
>>23844958>There are many different Takerus but only one was pulled into the Beta world by Beta SumikaBut this is wrong. The Takeru that Sumiku brought into being is an amalgamation of the different timelines of Extraverse, it's why he keeps having flashbacks to romances with the different girls, since all those experiences happened.
>>23844958https://youtu.be/3w43NiSP0Zsif you actually care about Koukis schizo ranting
>>23844960Maybe I missed something but I imagined that only one Takeru got isekai'd away from his world, leaving exactly one Extra world where Takeru suddenly disappeared. The flashbacks I thought were either him being a causality conductor or accessing the memories of his Unlimited experiences (where the original Takeru is stuck in a loop within one world that restarts whenever he dies instead of parallel worlds with different Takerus). I agree that this slowly turns him into an amalgamation of many Takerus due to memory access / knowledge, but I'd still consider him the original Takeru in essence.
>>23845030Wow, thanks for the link. I'm viewing it atm.
>>23845239Nah it goes>Sumika combines all Extra parallel timeline Takerus into one>new amalgam Takeru keeps timelooping in Unlimited>somehow finally carries his memories into Alternative timelineI never understood why Alternative actually happened, like what was it that let him remember things this time when he forgot it in all other loops
Is tama racist or is she homophobic
>>23845294She was raised in a traditional household in Japan, she's both!
>>23845030Summary (??):1.Beta Sumika, obsessed with Takeru, reaches into countless parallel worlds where he didn't choose her and rips those versions of him away, harvesting and combining them to create the Takeru we play as in Alternative. This messes up those worlds' causality, leaving them fractured and corrupted.2.Because Sumika fractured these worlds, she can't just put him back into a single timeline. Her solution is to take all the broken timelines she has ruined, merge them together, and re-construct them into a single, unified timeline - Final Extra.3.This means Sumika didn't merge/destroy the entire multiverse, since there are worlds where Takeru chose Sumika, which she didn't interfere with. She just collapsed a massive chunk of the multiverse into Final Extra.4.Sumika is essentially a terrifying god-like entity who commits mass timeline-genocide out of obsessive love, treating the lives of billions of people across parallel worlds as disposable materials in order to create a high school romance tournament for one boy. The Final Extra world is her guilt-ridden attempt to glue the shattered pieces back together into a single, fair reality.5.Takeru would likely never consent to an outcome where countless worlds are destroyed or merged just so he can have a happy ending. His "happy ending" is fundamentally non-consensual. The only way Takeru can live in it is if his memories are wiped so he remains ignorant of the blood on Sumika's hands.
>>23845311Basically a really cool concept for an ending imo. My only doubt: Is this really the ending of MLA, which the reader can arrive at by paying close attention to the text, or is this the creator's personal headcanon constructed after the fact to give a subpar ending an interesting twisted spin?
>>23845311>>23845315??? Did Yuuko not tell him what would happen?>>23845315The idea is in the return to Extra plot.
>>23830097Btw, nice cave = hive foreshadowing
>>23845458It's funny, Yuuko doesn't actually do anything to bring him back to Extraverse. It was Sumika's doing, Yuuko might have even tried to keep him longer in the Betaverse and use his piloting skills, but she had no real choice in the end.
>>23845458>Did Yuuko not tell him what would happen?Where in MLA's text can I find this part>Beta Sumika, obsessed with Takeru, reaches into countless parallel worlds where he didn't choose her and rips those versions of him away, harvesting and combining them to create the Takeru we play as in Alternative. This messes up those worlds' causality, leaving them fractured and corrupted.?Also at least at the point when Yuuko sends him into the Betaverse for the equations it is not fractured. So when does Sumika do it, if Takeru is already supposed to be an amalgamation at the start of Alternative? Also where in MLA's text can I find this part>Her solution is to take all the broken timelines she has ruined, merge them together, and re-construct them into a single, unified timeline - Final Extra.?
>>23846048>Also at least at the point when Yuuko sends him into the Betaverse for the equations it is not fractured. So when does Sumika do it, if Takeru is already supposed to be an amalgamation at the start of Alternative? That's a Betaverse where Takeru has not yet chosen a girl I think, that's why.
>>23846052I mean Extraverse
>>23846048>>23843824
>>23845294What'd I miss?
>>23846537Just chibi Tama saying a racial slur
>>23846508Well, according to Kouki the branches where Takeru ended up with someone else aren't getting "reconstructed", as Yuuko says, they are getting merged/annihilated. They literally don't exist anymore at the point of Final Extra. So it doesn't seem consistent with the text of MLA.
>>23846539Why was that deleted?
>>23846572I'm responding to >Takeru would likely never consent to an outcome where countless worlds are destroyedI do not give a shit about the hair splitting over the rest of this
>>23846656"Every branch of the timeline in which you fell for someone other than Kagami will also be subject to reconstruction" doesn't mean "an outcome where countless worlds are destroyed." It says reconstruction, not destruction. Takeru would also have had no idea what she was talking about because that sentence is ambiguous and could mean different things. I'm currently just not really seeing how Kouki's explanation can be found in the original text without first reading his take.
>>23846682Explanation of what? The idea or the mechanics?
Marimo will never be a mommy. The Mad Dog will never have a litter of puppies. You must consider this.
>>23847145Wait a minute...>redheaded boy = Shirou>purple haired girl = Sakura>blue haired boy = Shinji>black haired girl = TohsakaAm I going crazy over here?
>>23847173Yes. yes you are. But we're all crazy here, because we're still clinging to hope that this dead franchise will suddenly resurrect itself and blow our minds the way reading the trilogy for the first time did.
>>23847176That is not dead which can eternal lieWith strange eons even death may die
Was Tactics cancelled or what?
>>23846799For example Kouki's claim: "Sumika erased the parallel worlds where Takeru and the other heroines were happy." I can't remember reading this anywhere in the text of MLA. Or that she created Takeru's body using G-elements. If this was mentioned then I must have forgotten/missed it. Otherwise it looks like something Kouki just came up with after finishing the vn.
>>238476201. The fact that Takeru is lopping 2. The opening sequence of AltParallel world here doesn't mean happening concurrently

Happy birthday Extra's best girl
Why did Iris's route ship her with Beatrix more than Theo and Katia's route, the canon one, ship Iris with Theo the most of all the routes? How does that make any sense?
>>23848440It's unfortunate that the only SMs who survive are Gretel and Annette.
>>23848440Probably because Theo was in love with the idea of Iris rather than who she was. There's a reason Theo and Lise show up more together than Theo and Iris.

>>23849560Unknown and unkowable, I cannot communicate with the BETA without a translator
Couldn't find these light novels on zlib or libgen, not sure if they were ever uploaded somewhere. Apparently it's 7 volumes but that must still be way less text than the vn, so I guess it's probably a more surface level retelling of the same story (?).
>>23849922Beside his desk, there was a door.It looked completely natural there, but up until yesterday, there had definitely been a poster on that wall. That door hadn't existed.Furthermore, considering the layout of the house, there shouldn't be anything on the other side of that wall. Logically speaking, opening that door meant it should connect straight to the outside.Takeru stared intently at the door.—Was it a dream? No. The door was undeniably there. He was struck by a fiercely bad premonition. He slowly reached out, grabbed the doorknob, twisted it with all his might, and pulled. The door swung open effortlessly, and there, on the other side......were breasts.(Note: There is a very small line of text at the bottom left. It is a joke referencing the famous opening line of the classic Japanese novel "Snow Country" by Yasunari Kawabata. It roughly translates to:)Yasunari Kawabata's novel came to mind: "The train came out of the long tunnel into the snow country." —Except instead of a snow country, there were breasts.
>>23849922"Do you concur, Lieutenant Tsukuyomi?”"Yes. They are individuals who took action out of concern for Her Highness's predicament and the current state of our nation. I believe the Sergeant is correct. They would never dishonor the very ideals that motivated them to rise up."“I fail to understand how you can place so much trust in the enemy, but regardless, the fact that we can buy time works to our advantage as well.”Takeru, who had been watching the exchange with bated breath, breathed a sigh of relief. Regardless of the circumstances, being able to let Yuuhi rest removed a major source of anxiety for him.“Hunter 1 to all units. We will accept the ceasefire. All units hold your positions. Her Highness will disembark from her Tactical Surface Fighter to rest.”Thus, it was decided they would accept the ceasefire proposed by Sagiri.Takeru helped Yuuhi down from the cockpit and escorted her to a suitable place to rest. Although it was only a brief sixty-minute truce, it was more than enough to slightly ease the suffocating tension.Takeru walked around the perimeter, his mind racing with various thoughts. Leaving his post was technically a violation of military regulations, but he ignored that fact, wandering around and checking in on his squadmates from 207B.—Everyone was completely exhausted. Both physically and mentally.Come to think of it, that was to be expected. After all, this was Squad 207B's very first experience in actual combat. Finally, Takeru made his way over to Meiya."Hey, Meiya. Can you hear me? Pop the hatch on your Fubuki."Takeru waved up at her machine. The Fubuki's hatch opened, and Meiya appeared from within."...Unbelievable. To think you can act so carefree under these circumstances."The very first thing out of her mouth was a reprimand."Don't be like that. I came over because we need to talk. ...About Her Highness."
>>23849926>Snow CountryWhat a strange coincidence, I literally picked this up at the library yesterday
>>23849922"Wha—?!"He instinctively scrambled backward, carrying so much momentum that he smacked the back of his head hard against the wall with a thud."What's wrong, Takeru?"Clad in her Fortified Suit, Meiya crossed her arms over her chest and glared at him."W-What is it? Is there something strange going on?" Chizuru said, abruptly turning her face away with a pout. Her cheeks were faintly red.Looking closely, it wasn't just Chizuru. Kei, Tama, and Mikoto too...Even the seemingly calm and composed Meiya was blushing bashfully."S-Strange doesn't even begin to cover it..."Even as he stammered over his words, he couldn't take his eyes off them.Their Fortified Suits differed slightly in design from the men's version Takeru was wearing. The way the thin material clung tightly to their skin was the same. However, the front of their bodies—from the chest down to the thighs—was either semi-transparent, or perhaps it was just a flesh-colored material that made it look that way; regardless, it was designed to look as though you could see straight through to their bare skin underneath. The suits clung so tightly to the girls' bodies that even the shape of their nipples stood out in vivid detail.Gulp. Takeru swallowed hard."Get used to it, Shirogane. That's... what this equipment is designed for."
>>23849941Doesn't seem *that* strange, afaik it's one of the most famous modern Japanese novels that gets referenced a lot. Or maybe it's a causality conductor thing? oÔ
>>23849922>>23849926>>23849938>>23849943So it's written in third person and it also seems to include some minor stuff that wasn't in the vn, probably strategically to attract readers who already read the story. But I still can't imagine how it could not be way more superficial than the original text. Also it probably skips a lot of the internal narration.
>>23849938>Takeru helped Yuuhi down from the cockpit and escorted her to a suitable place to rest.I never really understood how this works, considering the TSF is like 65 feet tall
>>23849938(Here's the rest that didn't fit in:)"........."Standing on the edge of the Fubuki's open hatch, Meiya looked down at Takeru."You're twins, right? You and Her Highness.""...One look at our faces should make it obvious. To anyone who knows Mitsurugi Meiya, it is common knowledge.""Sorry, but I didn't know. Not until just a little while ago.""Did you go out of your way to call upon me merely to discuss such an obvious fact?"Takeru shook his head, looking up at Meiya."She didn't say it out loud, but... Her Highness seemed like she really wanted to see you."Judging from Yuuhi's expressions and the tone of her voice, Takeru strongly sensed her desire to see Meiya."We have a little bit of time right now. Why don't you go see—"
>>23849971This part doesn't seem very good, to be honest. The vn seems to avoid such a blunt exchange, keeping it more subtle. Takeru doesn't actually get to talk to Meiya during the ceasefire, other than when they discuss the Sagiri scheme as a group.

I had no painter’s hand, and too little understanding of the necessities of the play even to assist the doctor in arranging our properties. Jolenta, I think, rebelled physically and psychically against any kind of work, and certainly against this. Those long legs, so slender below the knees, so rounded to bursting above them, were inadequate to bear much weight beyond that of her own body; her jutting breasts were in constant danger of having their nipples crushed between lumber or smeared with paint. Nor had she any of that spirit that animates the members of a group forwarding the group’s purpose. Dorcas had said that I had been alone the night before, and perhaps she had been more nearly correct than I supposed, but Jolenta was more solitary still. Dorcas and I had each other, Baldanders and the doctor their crooked friendship, and we came together in the performance of the play. Jolenta had only herself, the incessant performance whose sole goal was to garner admiration."

>The Buff Clan are an alien race with a setting modeled after Japanese samurai society, specifically the "Bakufu (幕府)." >In Muv-Luv Alternative, Japan becomes an "empire of samurai (warrior) society" locked in battle against an "extraterrestrial origin species.">EXTRA is filled with foreshadowing of this kind — such as Meiya, who is very much a samurai girl.>For Sumika, Meiya is essentially synonymous with the BETA in the sense that she "destroyed the peaceful everyday life with Takeru" — and so the fact that Meiya's mansion and grounds serve as a metaphor for the Yokohama Hive is also an important piece of foreshadowing that connects to the dialogue with "Target A."https://xcancel.com/i/status/2055135516539183489
>People read Extra -> Alternative>they go online and say that the muv luv trilogy was mid????? wtf how do you get the entire way through and call that shit mid? I can understand getting a little zoned out after PTSD arc but the character development, setting, plot, characters, music is peak. Fuck I can get getting filtered by Extra but all the way through and you still think it's mid? tf.
>>23865168Expectations are one of the worst things you can put on something. Also some people are literally driven by said expectations, and what they get will literally never meet what they have in their head. Also some people just have bad taste.
>>23865383For me, Muv-Luv surpassed all of my expectations, especially with Extra, which I assumed I'd just breeze through to get to the "good stuff", but ended up loving so much I prolonged reading Unlimited for months
>>23865424Extra still has the stigma of being 'boring, slow, reptitive' that most people recommending it will say.>"This part is a little dull, but it gets better 7 routes and 80 hours in"is the worst type of criticism. But also people tend to be too anti-cringe to engage with normal human emotions.I saw some guy say that Takeru was a bad character because he was snarky, mean and physically violent, which is the type of complaint that exists with some dull 'intellectual' that's moaning the anime story isn't real enough but also believes everything in the world is simple and kind. Then again, most people come into stories with different expectations in wildly different means. VN characters can either be silent and/or never seen, and some people assume that can be them making direct choices in some role-playing form and that the characters exist to fanservice them, primarily why H-scenes might've been added. But I outright can't self-insert into characters, and instead take a spectator view that sees these characters develop and change in ways following dramatic acts and arcs.Regardless of how one takes expectations to the narrative, I see Muv-Luv as one strong example of quality overarching storytelling that can only really be experienced by proxy of it being a series in the first place. Not a perfect story, but the type of story you can only read for the first time once. I can go back and relive the good and bad moments, but it's good enough without having been ruined for me prior.I'm probably ranting and raving, but Muv-Luv really was that strong for me. I push it's a wrong to skip any of Extra. And Alternative is fantastic storytelling for an uncontained story.
>>23865524I love it too, man. It's why I'm still here, suffering with everyone else.
>>23865168>all the way through and you still think it's midI think that's mostly people who a) didn't care about (any of) the characters or b) didn't like Takeru as a protagonist. A lot of the high points in the story are predicated on some emotional connection to the characters.
>>23865383>expectationsyeah expectations is the key word here, but also its key how impressionable and open minded the reader is.some people dont really get mecha or classic anime, let alone has watched them so Muv-luv can be mind blowing hyperbolically good to the point of being blinded but the novelty or to dislike the games for being too different, without even trying to understand them and being allienate be anime / galge / mecha / sci-fi tropes. You see both side on the fanbase, a lot of kids atracted by Tiktok and "best vns of all time" tops / lists,

>>23865168A lot of people go off vibes and can't even begin to articulate or rationalize their feelings for something. 80% of VN readers can't even speak English or have a warlord's understanding of the world, to say nothing of their only critical engagement with anything being their high school lit classes and video essays, so all in all it's a waste of time bothering with this.
>>23856429wow thats beautiful. ty for new phone backround
>>23856429Do you have the versions for other characters?
>>23866175yuphttps://www.spriters-resource.com/pc_computer/muvluv/asset/161028/also, its always funny to remember that, despite being 17 (and girls), both Mikoto and Tama can still grow taller.
>>23866207there's hope for Mikoto's boobs after all....thanks anon!

>>23866366How old is he?
>>2386637259
>>23866366He's struggling with us...
>>23866366What is he, a second Miura?>>23866390>59So he's got just one year in him then? Jp artists seem to drop at 60 lately.
>>23867159im not sure, a lot of mangakas and seiyuus continue beyond that age, also here are other example as Nasu who despite being 52 wants to made 3 more vns.I think he’s probably saying that because he’s worried about his health (perhaps he’s already suffering from an illness, let’s hope that’s not the case)>>23866693Really sad, even if he is a lapdog one can not stop seeing the parallel with the Mount Tengen's old woman.
>>23867172I mean desu it really doesn't matter if Kouki dies in the context of modern muv luv because the people that own his franchise won't let him do fucking anything anyway
>>23866366;_;
Minor update to the MEGA archivei uploaded a copy of the muv luv trial CD
>>23848773By any chance, was the old one provided by the one who went by the handle KimiNozo Guy?
>>23868766Cute design
>>23855917Latrova eating good!
Bundleban Ban-Ban, featuring Akane Maniax, is now translated in English, if anyone here actually reads VNs anymore.https://kiminozo.life/bbbb.html
>>23869333I played through Akane Maniax earlier today. It made me with Takeru was (fully) voiced in Muv-Luv. Jouji's VA had a great performance. Also what surprised me was that the CG gallery has in-character commentary from Akane. Maybe I'm just a VNlet, but I've never seen anything like that before.
>>23869333>>23869366Very cool. I'm guessing this stuff will never get an official release what with the company bankrupt.
>>23868781i think it was yea, don't really remember 100% though
>>23856418hot mom>>23859648Yuuko would use it to make fun of Marimo (somehow)
>>23870304Where is that guy, anyway?
>>23871189Aalt? He's got his own blog he posts on irregularly. Got some very insightful posts on there. But he's slong since moved om from the broken wreckage of Muv Luv. His very last post on the subject was when the KimiNozo crowdfunding was announced, which speaks in many ways as a warning of what we'd eventually get, and a eulogy for a franchise that he'd watched grow, wither and die away.https://aaltomies.wordpress.com/2023/04/26/stuck-in-crowdfunding-eternity/He was 100% right about just how butchered that Steam release was. It took a fan effort to fix it and restore all the cut content. I'd like to think he'd be proud of how the fanbase has taken up the torch now we've finally got Akane Maniax in English. We're still getting a release a year, even if they're all fan translated now that aNCHOR is kill.
>>23871361Someone needs to find a way to contact him and get the mega file back.
>>23871361>aaltomiesFinnish guy?
>>23871492He was one of us, a long time ago now. He was the biggest KimiNozo shill, and after reading the uncensored fanpatch I can see why. It pioneered the shocking twist with Haruka's Brian Griffin moment, and the second part is the PTSD arc of Alternative, but as an entire VN. Makes me sad the Milsim/giant robots crowd won't give KimiNozo a chance, but they've got nothing to really look forward to, so if they wanna miss out, it's on them.
>>23871361>'d like to think he'd be proud of how the fanbase has taken up the torch now we've finally got Akane Maniax in English. We're still getting a release a year, even if they're all fan translated now that aNCHOR is kill.I mean happy for you but I know Japanese and read all that stuff aeons ago.It would be one thing if the franchise just ended, but it went out in one of the worst ways I've ever seen so people will keep seething all the way into the retirement home
>>23871498Not eeryone can read Japanese, and for us who don't, there's still stuff to look forward to.I guess after watching franchise after franchise shitting itself and dying in recent years as they're bleed dry by the creatively bankrupt, what happened to Muv Luv kind of fits in with the overall pattern. Even the biggest IPs on earth like Star Wars have been mismanaged into the dirt in similar ways to Muv Luv. Even its bastard progeny Attack on Titan didn't stick the landing. And funnily enough, reading KimiNozo and how it's all about letting go of the past has made watching the end of the company and aNCHOR's bankruptcy that much easier to bear.
>>23871497According to Steam, I sank 90 hours into KimiNozo's censored version. It was a good time. I definitely wouldn't have given it a chance if Extra hadn't won me over. Shame it's not a bigger success with us filthy gaijin.
>>23871498>Even the biggest IPs on earth like Star Wars have been mismanaged into the dirt in similar ways to Muv Luvidk if im a doomer or just a chud or whatever buzz word, but i dont care so much if (good) muv luv ended (im concerned about AGE staff tho), one should not limit your self over familiarity, prejudices or names if you want to experience cool or thought provoking experiences, maybe even those experiences can make you understand or enjoy what you already love even more.
>>23871508Wow, is it that good? I honestly really like Extra, maybe more than Alternative. How is the pacing? I liked Alternative, but the pacing of some episodes gave me such a burnout that I had to pause for a month between chapters a few times
>>23871508This IP could have been saved if they just gave the franchise manager job to a fat 30 year old guy from spain instead of Tororo.I'm not even kidding, they somehow have 0 clue about the overseas market even after all this time. It was obvious not having an 18+ patch would cause bad PR.I bet they won't even remove all the AI assets from Tactics if it ever ends up releasing and get tons of bad PR again.
>>23871521Well that 90 hours includes a whole lot of different routes + all the side content that's separate from the main game. It does get repetitive if you play route after route in one go, but there's no need to do that.My advice would be to just go in blind and see where you end up. You're going to love these characters, and a lot of their appearances in Alternative are going to carry a completely different impact when you actually know who they are
>>23871508Have you given the uncensored version a shot? Multiple routes were cut from the censored version, so it would be worth checking those out.
>>23871549I'll get around to it much later. I'm still slowly making my way through TDA, and after I finish that I need to go from Muv-Luv-verse to Muramasa.
>>23869333tfw website is down just as i remembered to come dl it
So i just realised the physical backup of the muvluv stuff i saved at the time of the old archive going down is larger than whats on the mega one.must have had no space to upload it then and forgot about it, oops I'll try see if i can make some space to upload the remainder on the mega
>>23871558>i need to go from kino to shitgrim
>>23866207Fun fact, in the first release everyone were just recolors of Meiya
Ive gone as far as using MTL to read nipponese fanfics, the state of muv luv as of now causes me physical pain. I need a story where takeru joins the US after AL4 is canceled. I dont care about dai nippon, i want my boy to reenact project wingman's Cold War on the french while piloting a F-22. also possibly duping uncle sam into concentrated bombing kashgar, still fucking up the earth but killing the superordinate and leaving humanity only to worry about (mostly) brainless BETA, eachother and Hive landing craft from others planets (since IIRC Kouki confirmed only those grew up into big brains, with perhaps exception of yokohama hive and sadogashima since they're weirdoes), could also be an unlimited ending too, to make things even more bitter.
>>23871525sweet, thx anon, sounds like good 90 hours if its split up between routes.> lot of their appearances in Alternative are going to carry a completely different impactyeah it was pretty obvious that a i was missing a lot of substances in those scenes, even thou they are nice even without context. Also really happy to know that a lot more character take advantage of their extra / kiminozo version on Alternative, the second heroines of extra (specially chizuru and kei) didnt take all that advantage to make parallels on unlimited / alternative
