-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-=GIRLPLA GROUPBUILD=-

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

>planning out my groupbuild, which involves scratchbuilding a full skirt out of pla plate
>want to make it a folding skirt that can expand, so a shitload of hinge mechanisms are going to be necessary
>the smallest hinges I can find on Amazon are 7mm width per wing and 25mm height, necessitating either a pretty damn big-ass skirt or profligate use of a Dremel to cut down the hinges
I'm pretty damn glad I started the planning stage this early.

Dynames finished. I'm very happy with the decals, especially on the shoulders and the side of the head. I didn't have a Dynames-specific sheet and half of the Avalanche Exia ones are blue so I used a combination of the Avalanche, spares from chink decals for Seravee and Cherudim and a few from the generic 00 sheet.

Sorry for the delay!
This is the current concept of Akatsuki's mascot design, please tell me which one do you like best, I will be using it as a base for the final product. Also, while I have some color decided in mind, please feel free to tell me if there are any palette you would like to have

I think option C is best. Thank you again for your work. As for palette, I was aiming back then to stay close to traditional Hojo clan colors, which are deep blue/indigo for clothes and burn red for armor, with white elements like ropes representing purity - but if you already have idea, its totally okay. >>23824039
Stedi glass files are coarser than Raser, only up to 800 grit. I wouldn't call that a dealbreaker, but you need to be careful when using the knockoffs because those have sharp edges that can gouge your kits.

Ended up using an entire can for Mr Hobby topcoat on it since my garage was too humid for most of the day and just didn't outside. The F90IIIY was a fun kit. Outside the foot not bending at all, it is a good MG. The underslung beam bazookas was a fun idea, but the mounts to hold them really could use one more point of articulation as it's really hard to have them "back" and not down in the deployed position.
Didn't really like how that looked, so I just put one on the back holder instead for it's shelf pose.
Can't wait for my X-type expansion to arrive. Also I think I want an original F90 now or at least an F90 N-type.
>>
New sheik mainland kit was announced.
"Franz Alpha"
There was also mention of some kind of change to how the parts are laid out on the runners to reduce the amount of nubs (which is saying something because previous Sheik kits already did all sorts of runner positioning and parts overlapping tricks to hide nubs)
>>
>>23824010
The main complaint for the Akatsuki was just that the hip joints were too weak to support the weight of its large backpack. For which an aftermarket third-party parts pack exists (also another one for the shoulders, since the joint pack is compatible with the RG Strike as well). And for anyone who's willing to blow $70 on a gold-chrome kit, an extra $4-8 to fix those joints is a no-brainer decision.

What's a good tank compressor for a newbie airbrusher? I see people saying it's even more important than a good airbrush, but I don't know what I should actually be looking for
>>
>>23824187
Why do you need a tank?
>>
>>23824188
Tank is important since it ensures uninterrupted air flow - without it, compressor must work constantly while you press for air and need that moment for kickstart each time you press the trigger. As it works, it can overheat and shut down or otherwise cause problems. Tank ensure that you won't encounter these problems and steady airflow/pressure is very important for good quality job.

>>23824187
I would say, check whatever is being sold at hobby stores and pick some. Chances are that most will be rebranded same Chinese model but it hardly matters.
>>
>>23823970
Seems like either way people think you're lying. It does puff up the ego slightly to pad some hours on it at least.
>>
>>23824190
I've been using a tankless compressor for years and have never had an issue.
>>
>>23824192
And some people use cheapest Chinese airbrushes without issue as well. Point is that tank makes up for whatever compressor is lacking, some very good quality ones might makeup for that, personally I would never go for one without tank and subject myself to loud, constant work and potentially having some uneven pressure after hour or two. Also, you can buy cheap one with tank that will perform quite good while cheap tankless one will be literal garbage. There is a reason why everyone and I fucking mean everyone with experience always recommends compressor with a tank to new users. And I definitely don't want that anon to waste money by buying some crap that will jeopardize his learning process.
>>
>>23824190
none of the military boomers I know use a tank and their work is 100x better than yours

>>
>>23824218

>>
>>23824204

...Yup. Looks like the skirt is going to have to be at twice as long, and is going to wind up being closer akin to a full length dress, even if I use a big-ass file to shave down the hinges. Thankfully, I also have 0.25mm thick pla plate I can use instead of 1mm, to reduce the weight down to tolerable levels, but I'm also going to have to scratchbuild some new pieces to utilize the side skirt mounting points.
>>
>>23824517
I've done that before but I wasn't too happy with the results. These particular paints don't really mist that smoothly, it tends to be a bit speckly and it doesn't really act like a filter. I'll play around with it and try it on a spoon just to see if I can make it work.

I didn't think to mix in a clear coat for that kind of thing before. It seemed to work better than just thinning out the base color more. It has obliterated the very motivation for the formation of premium prices on the resale market

The latest news about Sentinel and is that Bandai and (Model Graphix?) already made amends so they want to make more kits soon but who knows what they have lined up since Bandai has a shitton of things its working on and considering how atrociously slow Japan companies work, it might take decades before you see another new sentinel kit.

It's fine. The backpack touches the ground so it can actually stand on its own. The biggest issue is that the arms can't support the huge weapons on its own which is why they provided support bases for the arms in the first place.
The biggest upgrade though, is the new head. The regular one has a really ugly faceplate.

Ex-S is also fairly cheap and was as of not long ago fairly plentiful, though you are left with two pretty much backpackless Ex-Ss so I'm not saying there's no waste. But the scratchbuilding is minimal, it's just connections to the thighs and shoulders. Very simple build and you can probably put it all together for 70 bucks.

Anon, the whole point is that there is bad blood between Takahashi personally and Bandai as a corporation, and what neither side will really publicly say is that Takahashi is (of course) asking for generally high fees as punishment and they've really decided the characters are not marketable enough to matter and he can just keep them unless he wants to let them be marketed for their value (practically nothing in the scheme of things let's be honest, no one gives an actual fuck about the Sentinel characters except that Brave Cod shattered his teeth and the general story beats are cool).

Anon, Bandai owns the Sentinel mecha designs. They could just completely cut off ties with MG and produce Sentinel kits but out of respect to them, they still want to honour whatever agreement that they had and keep having them on the negotiating table. But of course, the story and characters are a whole different matter since the author clearly doesn't want Bandai to ever feature or adapt it into anything worthwhile so it's stuck in limbo and will probably be that way until the end of time.
>>
>>23825228
>the whole point is that there is bad blood between Takahashi personally and Bandai as a corporation, and what neither side will really publicly say is that Takahashi is (of course) asking for generally high fees as punishment
That's not how companies work lmao. The real story is that, Bandai and Sunrise didn't create Sentinel. Unless Bandai can acquire Model Graphix itself, Sentinel will have to stay in liscensing hell.

No they don't. Bandai have buy liscence to use them. Stuff like Xeku Eins, Zeta Plus, Ex S are allowed to appear in games, manga and anime because they have retail gunpla. You don't see Nero or Nouvel GM pop up as cameos, not until Bandai decided to make kits for them.
>>
>>23825241
I mean, if Bandai really wanted to run over the author, they could just give completely original backstories to the Sentinel desing, but they keep their existing story in profiles and such even if they don't bother actually getting the license to depict that story.
>>
>>23825244
You do know that Bandai outlaws every 3rd party Gunpla, right? If Model Graphix doesn't hold Sentinel hostage, Bandai would have taken them down first.

Lol literally every Japs i saw on Twitter point it out, it looks even weirder when Ryou actually appeared several times in early the 2000s. Modern Bandai just don't want to pay anymore.
Model Graphix effectively owning Sentinel because all of Bandai execs during the 80s who involved with Sentinel nolonger work in the company and there was no official paper contract made. The copyright issue exists, no matter how hard Zeonic and "debunker" scream.
>>
>>23825305
Zeonic literally acknowledges the copyright holder issue exists, I'm not saying it doesn't nor is anyone else that knows anything about it. So why are you responding as if I'm saying they don't?
The whole point is exactly as I said. It comes down to, at this point, the fact that to merchandise or market beyond the mobile suits is complex because they do have to actually negotiate a fee with a person who pretty much hates the company after being burned in a series of situations (and was retarded enough to not get agreements in fucking writing for any of this anyway) revolving them and the general bloated corporate lack of communication. You see a lot of people on twitter saying "oh, so they're still at this point with Sentinel, huh?" No one really gives a single fuck or is actually outraged or confused, it's just an acceptance that it is how it is. And the unstated part is that Takahashi is pretty certainly asking for more than it's worth to do anything with this shit, so we don't get it, and no one cares because no one misses the paper thin characters of Sentinel and if you want to read the story you can just go right ahead.

So my new hinges are arriving later today (thank the gods for Amazon Prime), but since the measurements were given in the product description, I was able to do some paper mockups in preparation. It looks like a skirt length of 4cm will work, and I also decided to change to fold structure slightly to make the curvature a bit smoother. In the midst of my planning I also realized that I could overlap the hinges a bit by building the skirt pieces out of multiple thin layers of pla plate, since each adjacent piece folds in the opposite direction. I'm not sure where skirt thickness is going to end up though, probably around 3-4mm since I'm going to be using a combination of 0.25mm and 0.5mm thick plating.

My original plan was to link up all of the skirt pieces into one complete skirt, but I realized pretty fast that that would restrict flexibility and increase the chances that moving one part of the skirt would overstress and possibly break a different part, so instead I'm going to do five pieces mounted to the original skirt mounting points (2 front, 2 side, 1 back) and just let them overlap slightly. Hopefully they won't be so heavy as to compromise the overall structure.

What constitutes a feminine mech? Is Aerial a feminine mech even though its design inspiration was a bodybuilder? Is it feminine because it's possessed by a girl? Is Phenex feminine? Is anything piloted by a woman considered feminine? Is the Tieren Taozi feminine? Is G-Arcane feminine?

I was thinking of painting my Brady Hound, but I think I'll rather build my Ground GM first and use it to test some of the techniques I intend to use on the Brady Hound

"Put to shame" is a little bit much for a line of kits that rarely sees a 90° elbow bend
>>
Is there still time for a HGUC ZZ kit to be revealed this year or did Hathaway take up all the slots? Haven’t been keeping up with the news
>>
>>23826602
>did Hathaway take up all the slots?
All one of them?
>>
>>23826608
yeah that's standard
Bandai's real focus is on shitting out Metal Builds for overworked salarymen with no free time to buy

I feel the same way about my girlpla. This is why I shop at USAGS. Zak understands.

Clip out all the pieces and put them in Tupperware?

They are going to be like the psycho mk II. Bandai is going print a large batch then you're going to see it alot in retail, once it's gone you won't probably see it reprinted again for years.

Should I buy the V2 Ver Ka MG? I've been thinking about it for a long time, but I still haven't seen Victory. There's just a certain something to its torso and I don't know if I'll end up disappointed.

first girlpla showed up and they are tiny holy fuck

Why are uncs like this????

Because the " photoshopped face " is a smaller jpeg of itself. This kit actually comprehensible but unfortunately the engineering is quite trash.

Chang loves maximalist designs.
That's all it is. There's no complex explanation needed. They just love maximalism.

the worse chinkshit IMO are the ones based from wuxia, or the ones that look more like power suits than an actual robot.
