-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Each movie must have a new form. I think price is dropping for all the new releases at the moment. Messer M01 is promising as it should match the build quality of Gustav Karl. Penelope and Messer from 2019 really sucks in terms of durability.

Back in year 2000, Gustav Karl used to refer to the commander v fin version, and Dora Karl referred to the left antenna rod version. Now everything is called Gustav Karl, so probably they could use the Dora Karl name for the inevitable light armour variant.

Why do Koreans think this kit is piece of garbage and fucked up slop, while Japanese and Mechagaikotsu praise this kit as ultimate pinnacle of gunpla? No Japanese give a shit about PGU Nu's joint issue.
>>
>>23835677
I liked the bug face more
>>
>>23835706
It's not just about the face vents, the entire shape of the face looks weird and foreign and not Gundam-like at all. For instance, the eyes are entirely the wrong shape and take up way too much space, like it's trying to be Kenbu or some shit. Hell, the construction of the V-fins would normally disqualify it to begin with, to say nothing about the rest of the body, but at least in the case of the one on the left it does at least attempt to harken back to the classics, and the body shape is something I can semi-forgive given the entire purpose of the enlarged frame. But making the face look like that doesn't serve any real purpose except to try to look different.

(I could have also just replied with "Exactly, thanks for proving my point :^)" but that would trigger literally everybody in the thread.)
>>
>>23835560
I don't know if this is true for all 30MS but the one I just built has mega doodoo elbow joints, single pegs hinging without anything to hold them in place.
Other than that it seems fine, I compare it more to any 30MF kit than a Gundam HG, just like 30MF it's a significantly simpler build than any modern HG. The wrist joints are unlike anything in gunpla and take a second to get used to when posing. Legs and body are good but arms, head, and hair loves to pop off the joints from any amount of light handling.

so I mix a custom tone of hul red, pink, sunny skin tone, base flesh, and blue. this gives me my dark tone then I do a zenithal highlight of light flesh. from there I switch to a brush and glaze on base flesh to blend the transition. I also glaze pink plus light skin tone on the cheeks and pure light skin on the nose and chin. after that I varnishing and do some oil blending to give the shadows and highlights more depth. the trick with female faces is to be very subtle, so the darker shadows will be much less contrasting to the bright highlights.

The GQ didn't even rank in that recent popularity contest so I'm not sure if there's an appetite for a 1/100 now that the hype is over.
Personally though I'd be happy with a FM, it's not like the thing actually has an internal frame and even the HG is pretty solid as-is.

yeah well I got mentally tortured for two weeks for a science project but I got an equivalent of a 30$ coupon for a marketplace site so I'm getting a kit for that fuckery
>>
>>23836486
If you find them on sale you might even be able to get 2! If you are fresh off the boat and don't have any of them, I'd go for G-Witch HGs, they're really good kits and have a big variety in design since they used like 5 different designers, one for each House. Also they don't rely on stickers too much and have some cool gimmicks.

The G-Witch kits are objectively a pinnacle of Bandai's engineering and design and deserve it. You don't have a vote on what anime they make.

>>23836508
The majority of Gundam shows are mid and none of them ever stick the landing. But some are definitely worse than others. I dropped Sneed and Endless Waltz halfway through but I still like some of the kits because there is no connection at all between the two. Hathaway is a weird one for me because I fucking loathe all the mecha designs and will never buy the kits, but the movies so far have been great. Usually I like the models a lot more than the anime (which for 90% of Gundam is just an ad for the kits, a commercial made after the fact).

>>23836511
Yes, I have them and never use them. They're firmly in the "just get tossed in the closet" territory. Although I ended up much preferring the default Aerial backpack over the Mirasoul anyway so I'd call the whole thing an easy skip.
>>
>>23836518
This is incredibly sad to me because UC Gundam is maybe my favorite sci-fi franchise even above Star Trek and Zeta Gundam is my favorite anime ever made. Ever. I dont buy gunpla because I like model building, I buy and build gunpla because I like Char.

Don't get me wrong, there is a ton of good Gundam anime out there but there is 0 connection between kit quality, mecha design, and the particular anime a MS has been featured in. It's turbo fucktarded to pretend otherwise.

I love/hated him in GQuX because the show became about him. Anno wanted to make the show about Char and his self insert Challia Bull so the MCs took a backseat, and the overall show suffered because of that. Like Machu and company weren't written well enough to share a stage with him, ya know?

I didn't like the show mainly because it was a nostalgia bait, instead of going all in on a alternate timeline where zeon won. Instead you have the newtype bullshit magic, these literalwho's as the main character and in the end just like your typical modern gundam everything gets solved by a deus ex machina and everything is fine and dandy. The MC didn't even kill anyone. Probably the first ever gundam mc who didn't kill anyone.

Sugoi! Yeah so there was a pic a while back from a Bandai presentation and they straight-up said that Gundam anime from now on will be split between zoomer shit to try to rope in new customers and unc shit to appeal to the old men who just want UC. With GQ shown as the key example of the former and Hathaway as the example of the latter.
My issue with GQ was that it tried to be both, in actuality. I would love a dedicated, full length series devoted to an alternate UC where the good guys won. You could even have the usual stupid teen characters every Gundam has, in the form of Machu and co. but GQ as we got it just had an identity crisis. The Char we got was there so zoomers who have not actually seen Gundam could go "look a memberberry!". If you know any irl zoomers, you will know what I mean. They love (or are told that they love) nostalgia for things they never experienced and Char in GQ was appealing to that more than to actual uncs, as it turned out.

>>23836547
Anno had a far smaller role than people think. But your overall point isn't wrong.

>>23836554
Which are great and just work. So much better than the mushy polycap hell we usually get.

>>23836567
They both had the same problem. A cool premise and visuals and no idea where to take the actual story. A setting and world are not a story and both shows set up all sorts of intriguing ideas and asked interesting questions, then did very little with them. Then ended with a bunch of asspulls. I also have decided that I hate Gundam when there is not an actual war to speak of and both of those anime suffered from multiple eps of "well we have to show the Gundam in fights but the story has no fights, so let's just have faux-fights to check that box off". Duels were especially bad because of the total lack of danger or stakes. At least people died in Clan Battles.

Most of classic MG kits don't have super complex innerframe. They looked even worse pre 2010.
>>
>>23837366
You can still get a non armored frame out of MG Jegan, however we all know how basic the assembly is. Most of the classic kits had that similar basicbitch structure, just 2 parts and a polycaps in the middle. Atleast modern MGs in general try to separate the frame into many parts. Providence and Freedom definitely feel like MG, they are time consuming enough.

>>
Why do some people care about the level of detail on the inner frame?
If you're going to cover it in armour pieces anyway, why does it matter? It's only there to give larger models structural stability.
>>
>>23837407
Considering how it has the same gimmick as ZZ, probably never ever.
>>

It is important when it comes to creative, busy designs. Even HG Doven Wolf has frame for the legs because it is just so top heavy.
>>
>>23837408
Not really the level of details, more like the amount of parts. It is like when you watch a really good 1 hour movie and wish it was 2 hours to experience more of it.

>>
>>23837432

>>
Everything went to shit when they moved away from polycaps
>>
>>23837443
I think most of modern times MG have decent complexity. It will take you several days just to put Narrative's frame together. Barbatos/Vidar frame look like a stick figure but they are nowhere near the level of speedrun like Zaku Warrior or Jegan.
>>
>>23837446
The latest MG has a bunch of polycaps in it.
>>
>>23837426
In the context of inner frame, complexity for complexity's sake is kinda silly though. Complexity that serves practical purposes (e.g better movement, accommodations for potential parts modifications etc), yeah, sure. But if the inner frame being simple works for its purposes, it shouldn't matter.
>>
>>23837408
>>23837422
they're fun to paint and i can look at the photos i took of it whenever i want even if the actual physical model is covered with armour
>>
>>23837456
It is not about complexity for the sake of it. When you build a MG and the frame is completed, that means 80% of the work is done and it is disappointing when you can finish a large scaled kit in 1 hour.
>>
>>23837456
It is the same reason why some people look down on Maganac and Leo. Yeah they function, they are solid, but the assembly is just so quick, it feels lackluster.

But then again, the 2000s had absolutely bangers so Turn A's frame looks hillarious in retrospect.
>>

The global financial crisis happened in 2008-2010, so the peak inner frames designs of RX-78, MS-06 and MS-14 were remained a thing of the past due to cost cutting measures. ABS plastic was discontinued and KPS wasn't very good until around the 2016-2018 when RG Unicorn and MG Dynames were released.

I think it's less "old vs new" and more "UC vs everything else"
>>
Inner frame discussions are always hilarious to read in this thread.
>>
>>23837517
There is a UC bias for sure. Strange to see, considering how Bandai just ignore MS Igloo's existence and doesn't produce UC tv shows anymore.
>>
I would kill for MG Zudah, Hildolfr and Zegok
>>
>>23837527
MG Zudah with spring loaded limbs and armor so you can press the thruster on the back and make it explode would be toy of the year
>>
>inb4 chang already made it
I dont give a fuck about some chang kit.

Respect Zudah. It has alot of onscreen kills for such a shoddy robot.
>>
>>23837534
>shoddy robot
How dare you
>>

It's the Dra-C with legs.

How feasible is it for a 1/144 Zegok? Pretty sure the Changs have made stuff much bigger than this.
>>
>>23837549
Nobody would want to make this piece of shit
>>
>>23837546
Zudah killed 3 balls and several GMs. Dra C achieved nothing lol.
>>
>>23837551
>Best action scene in the series
>Nobody want
Doubt
>>
>>23837546
It's Zaku I if it was good
>>
>>23837554
I think Zudah was ahead of its time. The perfected late UC MS follows the similar style, just gotta go fast.
>>
>>23837551
The dude who made the model in the pic is already somebody so your slander is null and void!
>>
Won the bid again. Takeshi you motherfucker give me that Sentaipla NOW
>>
>>23837260
There's actually multiple people here like that
>>
>>23837552
Doesnt change the fact that its a Dra-C with legs.
>>
>*We may cancel bids from users with significantly poor ratings or new users.
AHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHHH
>>
>>23837571
No it is not lol. Dra C are Zaku II without legs.
>>
>>23837561
I hope Takeshi bans your ass.
>>
>>23837534
I respect the Zudah plenty, no matter what it will never be a phantom fighter in my eyes.
>>
>>23837574
The Zudah is a Dra-C. Made from hopes and dreams with the objective of going fast and exploding.
>>
>>23837495
SOUL
Looks like a robot right out of old Star Wars films.
>>
>>23837582
No they are not the same. Zudah explodes because there is no safety cap to how fast it can boost. Dra C doesn't explode from boosting because the base unit is Zaku II.
>>
>>23837588
Which is why the Dra-C is an improved Zudah, it removed its god awful legs and head.
>>
>>23837593
>Improved Zudah
>No onscreen kills
I keked.
