In universe wise, do Gundam have a trademark of the name? Like the Earth Federation own the Gundam name and Anaheim Electronics have an exclusive rights to use that name while other mobile suits developer cannot use Gthe undam name without Fed permission.
>>23835986Nope coz Hathaway is one of the examples that explain it iirc
>>23835986There are loads of things called/named "Gundam" which aren't actually Gundams, like the B Gundam or D Gundam. It just so happens that in the UC universe, soldiers and corporations have enough respect for the Gundam to only actually give a mobile suit the name and appearance when its performance can conceivably match that of the legendary White Devil. The Titans had their own entire lines of Gundams, the SNRI built their MS with the legend in mind, and the League Militaire were hoping to use the Gundam's reputation to their advantage when they built the Victory series.Real talk though, Tomino was probably just blowing smoke out his ass and was just forced to use Gundams as the protagonist MS due to it being part of the Gundam franchise.
This happens in real life too where a proper noun becomes genericized due to notoriety. All Gundams are a gundam but not all gundams are a Gundam.
