-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

My experimentation with colored rubber bands and my sister in law's old hair straightening iron has yielded success. They're the right color, with a slightly ethereal consistency (flat, rectangular, transparent). Easy to cut to the proper length, though now my challenge will be to determine the method for attaching them to either the head itself, or somehow constructing a HG-sized skull cap and attaching these hair strands to that.

Also, learning how to braid rubber bands is going to be a bitch.
>>
>>23839738
The pot iron effect is nice but the bumpy rusted out construction equipment effect is the best. I loved poking puffy, rusty metal when I was a kid and feeling it smoosh.

Any tips on painting the outer armor? Or should I just snap it together first to see how it all fits. My main concern is painting too much on t he pegs and holes and it won’t fit together
>>
>>23839753
It does.

>>23839771
You can just clean it off or just tape off the pegs.
>>
>>23839771
That's not really something to worry about on anything bandai makes. The tolerances are very generous. If you're worried you can stuff the holes first.
>>
How do I apply those clear decal stickers more cleanly without making it look like a poorly applied waterslide? Do I just glue it down with a bit of paint? Is there something to melt it onto the model like there is with waterslides?

Anybody ever mixed Aqueous into Mr. Color? Not layering it, mixing the two together.

In your small, primate brain (underdeveloped prefrontal cortex) you are clearly creating some unknown amalgamation of the terms pot metal, cast iron and pig iron. Pot iron is not a term relevant to any kind of casual discussion or metallurgy.

So what's the consensus on the GBC bootleg Exia anyway? I'm genuinely too stupid to tell if the proportions are "wrong" and people can't seem to decide whether it has massive fitment issues or only needs a little sanding and smooching to be good.

Snapbuilding this special coating Unicorn, still sort of fiddling around to figure out the transformation/ sliding panels. Cool kit, but some bits felt kinda flimsy while at the same time, some bits are kinda hard to move/slide around. Minor complain: they should have just included another set of head parts so I don’t have to open up the head to swap parts between Unicorn and destroy mode. The head is tiny with several tiny, seemingly brittle parts that you slot into tiny bits, I’m not exactly the most steady-handed guy so I’m rather nervous that I might accidentally ham hand and break some parts.

Why do the color formulas given in Jap manuals by Koto and Bandai always come out dramatically darker than they should? Do they mix the paint into a clear and not apply a solid coat or something? Even measured with pipettes into graded containers with absolute precision they come out very wrong. They can't be this retarded, right? I must be overlooking something. It will list stuff like 40% of one light color and 30% of a much darker color and that second color completely overpowers the first one to the point that it's dramatically darker. Like 80% darker in value. Then any additional colors in the recipe make it darker still, usually. Maybe they intend this to be like a base strong color that gets mixed into white or something?
>>
I came home today from work and spent 2 hours trying to pose my PG Astray like the box art and I just couldn't do it, I feel like an idiot. I had to settle for a boring standing pose, plus I broke one part and all the fingers in one had fell off and now are loose
>>
>>23839885
Put a drop of clearcoat on the finger part and put it back on. Once it dries it should move like it used to.
>>
fellow panhead enjoyers, how's the fitment of the parts? I'm finally putting mine together this week and I'll be painting it. Is it a "put together roughly and take apart for paint" build or "oh god this is so tight, paint before assemble"? Haven't built a gsc kit before
>>
>>23839893
Mine was fairly tight so you'll want to clip pegs and holes to loosen the tolerances a little. Even then I still had to scrape paint off of some pieces to get it to go together. The shoulders and the chest vents were the most troublesome bits. The panel lines were also kind of soft so you might want to rescribe them.

Gunpla has been completely taken over by snapshitters. For the last 10 years at least. Most of these people think using a gundam pen is akin to scratch building. It has shifted to toy collection.

SMP is worse at that especially on recolors like GAINGAOH BLACK and they have STICKER EMBLEMS THAT SHOULD'VE BEEN WATERSLIDES WITH NO WAY TO PAINT THOSE IN

Anon, gunpla has always had snapshitters as its main target audience. What did you think the snap part of snapshitters even mean or how it came about to begin with? Gunpla's dominance in the plamo market didn't come out of nowhere. Bandai has always been trying to make gunpla as accessible as possible.

Because Psycho Gundam kit is actually good. However, Gaplant's tiny PS pegs cannot handle all that weight and they break without the specialized action base that you have to hook the kit onto it. I thought they installed the giant arms on Gaplant back, not this half assed solution.

Worst part is that this kit's version of the white pod things (forget their actual name) are exclusive to this kit. They're not the same as the kit you can buy separately, and they only work for the tr5.

The arms are from the AOZ Gigantic Arm Unit, not Psycho Gundam. HG Psycho didn't have a double elbow bend
>>

Oh right. It seems like the fingers are articulated too. AOZ kits are so strange, they make brand new, high quality molds for the add-ons but reuse the subpar floppy kit of the early 2000s as the base body and expect the fragile noodle to handle all of those weight.

Woundwort's biggest problem is the loose and filmsy waist. The floppy legs were not a problem until Barzam II since the thing has actual feet and needs to stand on the ground because that's the only pose it can do.
>>
>>23840987
Vthor from Hexagear line. You need to sand the pegs though, they are quite tight and can cause problem in the long run because ABS tend to warp over time.

How much should I snap out, I've seen people remove every single part from the runners beforehand, whereas I normally just do it per limb or two, with each piece roughly on top of where the corresponding one is in the manual. I think I'd have a lot more desk space and freedom at this event though. If cutting out every single piece is the most viable plan, I'd at least want them arranged in order

Is there any issue priming a fully built model?

makes sense, i was planning on just seperating arms/legs/torso and priming them apart, I've just seen many people eitehr prime on spure or every part individually so i was getting worried i'd have to dissassemble everything.
>You should be able to put acrylics over any primer
Sweet, what clear primers do you use? i've only ever used spray paint.
>>
>>23842204
How much detail do you want to ad that you want to use clear primer? If it is just guns and hatches and other small details you can brush prime those areas and then paint them, I use Vallejo brush primer and various acrilics if I don't want to paint the whole thing. Afterwards you blast a clear topcoat to keep everything in place.

Interesting. Thanks I’ll look into this more.
>>
>>23842357
Thin down some Tamiya putty with lacquer thinner and apply it over the model with a brush, then rough it up with a wire brush. You'll probably need to smooth it out a bit after with some sandpaper.
>>
>>23842187
Lacquers are actually the recommended paint for Gunpla, because they dry much faster. The tradeoff is that they produce more fumes, so you need good ventilation and a good respirator if you're going to use lacquers.

As the other anon said, you have to get used to masking the joints and various other contact surfaces prior to priming and painting. In some cases, you may even have to sand down the surfaces to increase the tolerances so that they don't rub against each other after painting.
>>
>>23842367
I’ll test this out on a spare piece and see where I can go with it. Thanks!

You can work that to your advantage too. On older kits if you know a kit is notorious for loose hands or joints (Dalong and Schizo reviews, my go to) you can top coat the joint to tighten it some
