>every single poster on this board can perfectly name every single mobile suit, its fighting style, pilot, series and plot significance, and has watched every single piece of gundam media ever released to the point of being able to quote verbatim any line from any show
Literally how?

Literally not a thing. What do you get out of presenting your fantasy as reality when everyone can instantly tell you're wrong?

>single mobile suit, its fighting style, pilot, series and plot significance,
I like mech for the people stories. I have no idea how to tell Ms apart unless it's like hyakushiki vs Gundam vs unicorn if you put a lot of those zeta suits together they all blur together. Maybe I know zaks too.

The trick is that we don't, nobody catches and memorizes all that shit on their first watch
One huge benefit of hanging around people you share a hobby/interest with is that you'll be reminded of things you skimmed over or barely registered and you'll remind others in turn, especially if you like taking screencaps or getting into arguments. UC Gundam especially benefits from this because of the sheer quantity of media, much of which is untranslated or poorly-documented, but it applies to basically everything. It's the same reason the Dragon Ball mexicans over on /a/ can cite single hits in fights across a 40 year franchise.
If you're genuinely interested in something and not just watching it to fit in, you'll accrue that kind of knowledge with time and develop your own opinions on it. It's the whole point of a hobby board.
