At last VD, the last AC game on the checklist (I might check out mobile game later for lulz tho)First, the elephant in the room... SMALLER AND LESS DENSE MAPS = BETTER PERFORMANCE!! Also I swear the post-processing is not as nauseating, but it might be the byproduct of more stable framerate. I don't notice that much difference in gameplay aspect other than rebalanced part stats. Replaying mission is not a chore anymore now that the mission list is back. One thing I don't like is heavily tying part unlock to mission rank and subquest clear, instead of simple exp bar like V, so I can't passively unlock more parts while repeatedly attempting S rank, especially since I'm carrying over data, getting actual new parts are few and far between.
>>23850989 (me)>I don't notice that much difference in gameplay aspect other than rebalanced part statsOh wait, EN management feels less punishing now, making TE weapon not downright annoying to use, building for infinite/long overboost is way easier now.I like them giving us world/story update after mission kinda like what Last Raven did. Also, the OST slaps hard, so many catchy tracks here.
>>23850989The energy pools are much, much bigger than in V, meaning you can pretty easily achieve infinite Glide Boost. In general the much higher amount of energy to work with means you can play a lot more aggressively as opposed to V requiring you to think ahead a bit.
>>23850626Murakumo the game or Murakumo the fifth gen physical blades?>>23851072TE weapons saw energy cost reductions and there's more energy to go around, which was probably necessary due to the maps getting castrated. You'll also notice that laser rifles and cannons can hold their charge for as long as you've got the energy now.But there's a tradeoff; EN amps now send your shot costs through the atmosphere, so they're a lot less viable.
I should probably feel bad about doing all the MoA arena fights on the garage map, but I really don't. The PSX era games have a lot of of constricted map design leading to builds optimized for tunnel and city fighting, and somehow the AC AI feels like it never has to deal with subpar lock box rotation. So fuck it, if my target tracking sucks because of poor controls I'm gonna even the odds against the enemy ACs, and I refuse to be a poorfag and use Human Plus augments.

People like to say 5th gen is slow and clunky, but after experiencing it I think it might be faster than AC6.Sure at first it seems slower because you can't fly, then as you get farther you see AC jumping around like crazy. It kinda demand you get better at vertical tracking compared to other gen.

>>23852962Yeah, V definitely had a flawed implementation and larger systems. The core game mechanics were what was great. The melee combat was the best in the series, the actual PVP was great, the missions were good, the weapons were cool and the soundtrack was great. The rock paper scissors element thing was unnecessary and gay, the "operator" role didn't have enough to do and failed, the game needed more singleplayer / coop content to go along with it, and the map war system in V specifically was exploitable and retarded. There was a lot of good and a lot of not so good in fifth gen. >>23852964A modern remaster that combined V and VD on PC would be incredible.

>>23853068AC4's multiplayer was poorly balanced and minimalistic in comparison. 5th gen had a much wider array of useful builds, more depth to the PVP, and objective based missions / a ton of co-op. 5th gen was objectively better. Playing a sniper or a heavy was a lot more interesting in 5th gen, melee fights were a lot more interesting in 5th gen, unguided rockets were actually useful in pvp, and you had actual tactical depth to the PVP. 4th gen was OK, but the PVP was the weakest part of the game (still better than 6's pvp).
>>23853086Absolute not 4A had really good balance at the end of its life span. 5th gen was shallow as fuck.I doubt you know anything about the metea for any of these games because AC6 balance is also pretty good and its meta extremely varied

>>23848766I've hit the credits of AC6 as my first Armored Core game and it is a lot of fun but I don't get why some people struggle with it (aside from it apparently being far harder on initial release), other new players still seem to get stuck on bosses. It was challenging for sure and I was dying from time to time but there was no point where it felt oppressively difficult. So why do some people find it really hard?(Other FromSoft games I've played are Dark Souls 1 and 3 and Sekiro, I also spent about as much time in the test room as playing missions and arena at least at first.)

I wouldn't be surprised if it's considered a noob build for babies since there were a few alternatives I was testing that felt more powerful if I did it just right but I didn't feel I could pull of as well.

>>23855762yet not even in the top 5 best ACs ever made
>>23855585Most people jumping into it have never played a game that controls like AC before, or fast games at all. I don't think the helicopter was really THAT much of a filter outside of a few idiots being loud, but balteus on release had much better missile tracking so you would get chipped to death unless you played very well or used specific weapons to kill it quickly, where nothing in the game was anywhere near as hard before that. What the "nerfs" really did was correct a bug or two that let it do some broken shit and reduce the missile tracking slightly so it was more consistent to dodge / you didn't get constantly chipped even when dodging. You mentioned you actually practiced the mechanics. Most people are retarded and just mash their head into a wall and then get mad when they die. Hell, I got arrogant and said "I'm good at AC, I should be able to beat this without changing my build" and took several attempts to kill it with a laser rifle that did jack shit to the pulse shield. Comparatively, S-ranking it was easy as fuck with a reverse joint and plasma rifles that shredded the pulse shield.
>>23855695a complete playthrough of AC 6 doesn't ends with just one ending since there's a lot of new missions, weapons and parts on the new cycle. You've still haven't played the half of it.Nah yours aren't meta.
Thoughts on using the face buttons for camera control in early gen Armored Core games?
>>23855725
>>23855856that's how i played 1st/3rd person games on PSP before finding out about armored core, i can't get used to strafing with the shoulder buttons so that's my only choice
>>23855856So long as it works for you it's good. For the PSX games at least I basically kept the controls at default, just swapping left/right movement to the D-Pad and left/right camera rotation to the shoulder buttons. PSX camera is jank where it won't keep up with your lock box (especially at high/low elevation angles) and map design is mostly enclosed, so camera control isn't the biggest priority.Only downside to mapping camera to face buttons is that it's awkward to auto-level the camera by pressing camera up + camera down at the same time, but again it's not that necessary for the PSX titles at least.
>>23855876>Dual LudlowsBASED
>>23849217Not at all. This, however...
Just finished VD, this one really feels harder solo, definitely designed more for coop, lategame there's so many dual AC fights and missions with lots of mobs/reinforcements, especially some subquest feels nigh impossible without another player/UNAC. (that mission with sniper reaper w/o losing ally)Final boss was fucking kino, definitely worth as final farewell to the series at the time, though I think it's easier than V final boss.
How is the co-op mod for VITrying to convince a couple friends to pick the game up with me
>>23856364Funny that, it actually wraps back around to being designed around a single player because it is just about impossible to get S ranks if you bring in a second player (I think UNAC eats less of the bill, so it's a bit more doable with one?) and Hardcore mode really amplifies that.>though I think it's easier than V final bossI don't know. On one hand, Exusia gets shredded a lot faster, but on the other you have to actually dodge that bombardment attack while you can largely facetank+CIWS Black Glint. Tough call.
>>23858075Yeah, S ranking solo is pretty easy, just slap a shield (or two) and play like a pussy.Maybe if you setup your UNAC with shield + long range weapon you can S rank some more missions with them too?
This is a very intuitive customization system
I liked parkouring up vertical surfaces rather than just boosting. Gave more significance to the legs instead of making me question their purpose altogether. The movement just feels cooler too.
I'm thinking to play the mobile AC games, but is there any english patch for them? Especially 3, since the description says it bridges the gap between Nexus and LR. (does that mean 1 & 2 is just missions for fun without any significant plot?)

By chance did anyone here archive the Gen 2 stuff that was on Models Resource? Half the shit just vanished for some reason over there.
Well, that's Master of Arena done. It's really amazing seeing how much more refined Armored Core got in such a short amount of time. I think out of the PSX games AC1 had the most interesting story, Project Phantasma had the most fun story and was a huge QoL improvement from AC1, and MoA was the best game overall even if I didn't care for the story and thought the arena was only marginally better than Phantasma's.
>>23862732Did you feel like PP was the odd man out of the OG trilogy? To me it's plot seemed inconsequential to the grand scheme of things and is just about a rando Raven just doing missions. (I am aware of the Leos Klein theory btw, but seemed retroactive)
>>23862740The PSX games are my first experience with Armored Core, so I didn't have any notions for what the story should be like. I thought PP was fun in a "dude and his girlfriend save the world" sort of way, and while it's very disconnected from AC1 and MoA I was initially disappointed with MoA being a revenge plot against Nineball. I wanted to explore more of the setting and apart from the new megacorp I didn't feel like MoA was delivering. Also thought AC1's Nineball was more interesting, up until the final mission where it's revealed that your handler was just another Nineball construct.Apart from story I was generally just enjoying PP's map/mission design compared to AC1's, and was glad to see those improvements/philosophy carry on to MoA. I did dislike that PP had some legacy parts only available if you had an AC1 save file, especially after playing MoA where you can just buy anything (even AC1 hidden parts), but that's more of a problem of me playing on a 3DS and lacking proper save file management.
>>23862753PP felt very "experimental" in some of it's execution, which is a reoccurring pattern in the second outing of many game IPs. >I have yet to see another AC game have an in-game human NPC actually be visible.

>>23868902I love living in a world where making a lot money is not enough, it has to be ALL the money or none at all.
>>23868913For better or for worse, it's the only world where videogames can even exist. In any other economic model there is no space for videogames and other entertainment products (like animation) that need immense manpower compared to simpler entertainment like movies and music. Even in countries with lighter capitalist models such as European countries there is no videogame/animation industry because there is not enough profit chasing mentality which results in no crunch culture = no videogames.
>>23868389>teamslmao
>>238692231's is too formulaic. You can't really incorporate stealth, and they're pretty much solved by kites, which are both boring to fight and play.Plus there's comparitevly far more waiting between being restricted to only 2 to 3 kills a match, and how it resets the match after every kill.Teams has the potential to be a lot more dynamic, and have a much wider variety of builds and strategies be viable. You can have 10 minute matches that play out the whole 10 minutes and have like 100 singles matches worth of fighting. You can duel a guy, kill him, and then seamlessly fly off and fight another guy, which makes it far more immersive, like you're fighting in an actual AC vs AC engagement. There's more tension in completing battles in a timely fashion than just having a timer too, because enemy teammates can swoop in and try to save your opponent at any moment. Even if they do, you can still turn around a gank yourself if you're on enough crack, or your teammates can swoop in and help you with the power of friendship.Nothing more kino than you and your bro or bros all landing a melee on the same enemy AC at the same time.
>>23868922Genuinely wondering, in what sense would you say games require less manpower than movies? I could see the argument for music to a degree, but movies nowadays seem to require as much intellectual and physical input, given CGI, cinematography, etc. etc. etc.
>>23869300Those types of movies, sure. But what I meant is that you can absolutely have a movie industry running on small-medium budgets and still producing many enjoyable movies (example: spaghetti westerns), but you cannot have a whole videogame industry running on such budgets and still producing enjoyable games. Movies nowadays cost a lot because of expensive actors and CGIs, but they are not necessary. Meanwhile, videogames cost a lot because you need to pay all the people in the dev team, which is necessary.
>>23869313Hmm, true. My first thought was to mention all the indie games I've played, like Chaos Galaxy for instance I've put hundreds of hours into and it was made by one guy using his own sprites and programming and free music. But then it occurred to me he has a different job to support himself and doesnt make enough money off his games alone to live, so I see your point in the sense that it's possible to make a living (i.e people can support an industry) off small budgets while the economics are different for games.
>>23869313>but you cannot have a whole videogame industry running on such budgets and still producing enjoyable gamesWe can and we did, as long as the hardware costs are offset to someone else, such as computer hardware being manufactured for work purposes but used for a gaming platform. Most of the best games and most loved games were relatively small affairs with a handful of developers and a shoestring budget. Big money THEN came on the scene and they're the ones who ballooned budgets to the ridiculous heights they're at now. It was not necessary in the least bit and has arguably done more harm to the medium than Hollywood did to film. At least Hollywood used to occasionally allow an auteur to work unmolested, but video games became Hollywood in the worst possible time.
>>23869313>You cannot have a whole videogame industry running on such budgetsTwo of my absolute favorite video games from the 2020s are both fps games developed by a single guy with some collaborating artists helping the process. If anything, it's not a matter of budgets and team sizes, it's a matter of intent and workmanship.
>>23869600Do you know what an industry is
a miserable pile of secrets?
Have any of you ever read any Armored Core x Transformers fics? More importantly, are any of them good?
if you play VS in gen 3 one person using hard mode file and the other is normal, do the game uses each individual setting or switch the FCS to forced normal/hard to make it a fair fight?
>>23871247Wasn't aware that there were any. Not that there's anything in Transformers that could hold a candle to an Armored Core - even the ACV/VD ACs would have no trouble kicking the ass of someone like Megatron or Galvatron. Even Unicron is no different from the usual giant things you get used to killing in this franchise.
>>23865845Dolls Nest 2 is more likely
Damn bro this shit is kawaii
>>23872156
>>23872156People say Arcmored Core 6 is game for girls because so many are wet for Rusty and daddy Walter, they're right, look how cute these flying coffins are.
>>23872156>>23872159As cute as these may be, if I were to buy some useless piece of plastic that would do nothing but gather dust, I'd still go for the closest thing to an ACfu I may have.
>>23872745Yeah.Anyway you can mix match and build your own just like in game, in fact you can equip both the weapon in the left hand and left arm. They even made it all the same color so the color will match >>23872156, too fucking bad it's P-bandai for the grey one tho
the better question is, why Milktooth?WHERE'S MY FUCKING BASHO FRAME?
>>23873011>WHERE'S MY FUCKING BASHO FRAME?Better question, WHERE'S MY FUCKING DEADSLED, MIND BETA or, uh, any other RJ LEGGED ACs that I can't remember right now, assuming there even were any?
>>23873082>RJ legged ACI cannot remember any famous AC with RJ leg in 6. Best I know is Michigan with his quadleg.
>>23873189>I cannot remember any famous AC with RJ leg in 6.Because there aren't any, someone would have to model the nonstandard bipedal legs, at least beyond the basic three. Everyone and their mother, aside from Michigan and some wheelchair bound cripples, are using regular biped because, Idfk, Core theory or whatever.>Best I know is Michigan with his quadleg.Michigan's an odd one. His title of "Hell on four legs" already says enough, by which I mean that he might as well be the only notable quad leg AC pilot in the recorded history of ACVI continuum.
>>23873011Fuck that, where's my Coral wife? I'd take either her Echo or her SOL, but give me SOMETHING!
>>23873189I keep misremembering Steel Haze as RJ, fucking misleading design, then again I sometimes get confused by hover tank legs.
>>23873669I don't doubt that HAL and SOL will be made on the next volume batchWhat we need is actually the bosses mech. It doesn't need to be deformed style, just give us any
>>23873899Granted, go buy your Ice Worm
>>23873892Yeah, the NACHTREIHER tripped me up quite a bit initially, too - the legs LOOK like they should be RJ, but the knees are actually on the front like a standard biped; they're actually true digitigrade feet, the first I've ever seen in the franchise.
>>23873902The CEL-240 would be pretty badass.
>>23873906It's more like a bird leg than mammals rear legs (RJ).
>>23873902I want my PCAespecially this motherfucker
>>23872156Do they really sell the grey one as the same price with the normal color despite being P-Bandai?
is S ranking criteria in AC6 different from 3-5, not just amount of expense?I finished some missions with like <1000 damage and no wasted shot and still not getting S, do I also need to kill optional enemies or very fast clear time?
>>23875125yes
Anyone here know any other games that play like gen 3 AC? Or really any "old gen" AC games
>>23876968Define "play like"
>>23876990I press left, my mech walks left, but slow. I press shoot, the gun fires, but slow. I use up all my energy, and it recharges, but slow.
>>23876968>>23877021Dolls Nest with the RavenTweaks mod.
>>23877053Is it actually good though or just weeb shit?
>>23877125Yes.
>>23877125its just incel weeb shit
>>23877125It's old-school AC with Demon's Souls level progression. A bit jank, but overall pretty good game for a dev that usually only makes VN.
>>23873918Your only shot is garage kits or 3D printed slop
How come nobody copied For Answer, but with actual good maps?

>>23873011Milk Tooth is massively popular in Japan
>>23878367I ended up playing the playtest for this and seeing the totally not old ac parts touched up in HD is really neat. I dont know if I would say its similar to 4A, but fun game nonetheless.
>>23878367>>23878964oh and the environment destructibility is great
>acvd delves into the tragedy of maggie, who was crippled and just longed to feel the thrill of combat, and eventually paid For it with her life after a heartfelt confrontation between her, fatman and the player>acv was just the chief being a loveable asshole who just wants to kill everyoneWhat a downgrade.
>>23879027>acv was just the chief being a loveable asshole who just wants to kill everyoneI feel RD is more relevant overall, he's kinda like prototype Iguazu.
>>23878750Would double dip if they add new parts.
>>23879162Supposedly the switch 2 has the power to run it and they are adding new elden ring armors so maybe we’ll get something, we shoulda got a parts update for the secret level episode
Armored Core...Infinity
>>23878906This. His Japanese voice is one of those ikemen crazy boy types.
>>23879027Chief doesn't actually want to kill everyone. Chief and Carol's objective, as AIs, is the restoration of mankind. Chief's weirdo behavior is because he, unlike Carol, can see why every attempt they make goes wrong.>"Perhaps fighting is what humans were meant to do."As >>23879161 says, that role is more for RD, an AMS prodigy with a sixth sense for danger who gets gassed up by Chief and Carol into thinking he's special, which makes him eagerly join them out of desperation and ego, not realizing he's being exploited.

>spoiling a 14 year old game
>>23880758>antagonist turned out to be AI>a tradition that exist in every single generation>spoileryou might be retarded if you didn't see it coming from miles away
>>23880989It’s a fucking spoiler because they didn’t give any hint that they were an AI, even as far as Story Mission 3. That’s like saying Fiona and Ostradva are AI just because it’s a tradition in the game.WHICH ALSO NOT FUCKING TRUE BECAUSE IT ONLY HAPPENED IN GEN 1. ANY OTHER AI IN THE REST OF THE GENS, ASIDE FROM 5 AND 6, DOESN’T ACT LIKE A HUMAN THE WAY CHIEF AND CAROL DO.SO YEAH IT IS A FUCKING SPOILER YOU RETARDED NIGGER
>>23881229nta but>You blow up Chief's AC multiple times>He keeps coming back>"That's why human is so interesting!"It's pretty obvious desu
>>23881393It will be obvious after actually fighting him sure but that's literally almost half the main story. The last time I see him were during the train boss thing and there's no obvious hints at all that he's an AI during it.
