Did you even watch the show? I don't necessarily have an issue with how it's paced, but there are extended stretches where every episode is just "OH FUCK THE BUFF CLAN" and it'll just end with them escaping and then the exact same thing happens next episode.

It's the other way around, Be Invoked isn't all that. Too much of its runtime is wasted on bad space fights where Ideon itself does nothing interesting. It peaks very early with Sheryl losing her mind and doesn't really top that even with everything else going down. But hey, classic headshot gif, woo. Anno did this whole thing better, but he had the benefit of learning from Tomino how to do it.

neither the movies nor the series are that great on their own
the series probably could stand to be a dozen eps less or so, but a lot of what really makes it good is the slow build of everybody interacting week after week as they realize how fucked they are
the movies end up the cliffs notes of cthulhu "it's gonna rise, it rises, everybody dies the end yawn"
but the tv series just sorta runs out of show instead of ending so there's that
