Just watched this kino and it was kind of a work of art in some aspects, my exposure to Godzilla had been kinda limited before this (watched one of the OG Japanese movies at a friends house when I was like 8, and only saw the Rolan Emmerich film and its Fox Kids animated series based on said film beforehand) and it kinda blew me away despite its few shortcomings, I liked how Godzilla here was treated as some biological body horror anomaly rather than some "giant god lizard detected, hit it with missiles STAT, think about the destruction later" with all the government bodies deciding what to do. Any of the other "Shin" movies worth watching? I did watch some episodes of Ultraman when it aired here on Fox Box (yes it was dubbed by 4kids I'm not even hiding that). I'm also open to whatever other Godzilla movies you fellas wanna recommend.
>>23853375>it was kind of a work of artWhat the fuck does this even mean?>>23853375>giant god lizard detected, hit it with missiles STAT, think about the destruction laterWatch more godzilla. But yeah Shin is undoubtedly top 3 best godzillers.
>>23853404>>it was kind of a work of art>What the fuck does this even mean? What I meant by that is I thought it was more of an artistic film (cinematography, underlying message etc.) rather than some bombastic hollywood action flick most would watch empty headed.>giant god lizard detected, hit it with missiles STAT, think about the destruction later>Watch more godzilla.Well I do have my sights sets on Minus 1 or 2014 Monsterverse entry, any of those good?
>>23853375I went to see it at the theater again last time and had forgotten how hilarious the bureaucracy scenes were.
>>23853375Shin Ultraman is pretty much Anno's unofficial sequel to Shin Godzilla, even having one returning character (the prime minister's aide, Hideki Akasaka) and some dialogue referencing Godzilla's events in very vague lines. That said, it has a rather odd pacing because in spite of being a movie it tries to mimic the structure of a tv show.Shin Kamen Rider is kind of hard to recommend because, even though it's a reboot from zero, Anno still basically seems to assume the audience knows the original Kamen Rider in general lines already, and rushes things a lot in the beginning of the movie (and the rest of the movie is still fast paced, while also having the same oddity of Shin Ultraman of being a movie trying to simulate episode breaks).
>>23853497>Shin Ultraman is pretty much Anno's unofficial sequel to Shin Godzilla, even having one returning characterNice already getting my hands on a copy then. I'm very interested to see more of that universe.>Shin Kamen Rider is kind of hard to recommend because...I'm not at all familiar with Kamen Rider so I think I can skip it. He seems like one of those directors that values authenticity (the reused sounds effects, pacing etc.) so I guess I can respect him trying to respect the audience's time and knowledge with the source beforehand.
>>23853375I'd recommend Godzilla Minus One, like Shin its very highly regarded and very well made.
>>23853497My main memory of Shin Ultra: Ol Giantess Pantyhose semi-upskirt on the big screen. My main memory of Shin Rider: The /m/an who jumped up in the aisle and started kicking and punching the air synced to the OG intro/end credits.
>>23853461American Godzilla is always studio meddling bullshit.
>>23853375If you appreciated Shin Godzilla feeling artistic for its underlying message, you'll probably appreciate the original 1954 Godzilla with subtitles. The 1956 English version has Raymond Burr's character exposit over and speed through several of the most important and emotional scenes in the movie, so it's best avoided if you have access to the subtitled original. The first film has a real message and emphasizes the human suffering, whereas most of the subsequent films are overly (if not entirely) focused on the kaiju aspect.
