-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?

4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.

-=GIRLPLA GROUPBUILD=-

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Are there any generic effect parts to replicate beam cannon fire?
>>
>>23868165
Beam sabers, sometimes you have to go up a size but it generally lines up size wise
>>
>>23868165
Search up "MS effect parts", they're clear and come in 1/144 and 1/100

any specific model or weapon? it'd look weird to put wrong effect on a weapon like when beam cannons start firing machine gun bullets because they're shooting at a named character
>>
>>23867435
But does the bootleg having fitting issues etc? Because in my experience with bootlegs, you have to put in some work like having to cement some gaps, which is fine when you're gonna paint over it. But with these special coating stuff, they're pretty much made for snapbuilds since doing things like applying cement will ruin the coating, which defeats the purpose.
>>
>>23868243
for big guns as large as TBR and SigMaxiss Launcher
>>
>>23868250
those touchups would still be minimal compared to paying 800 dollaritos for bandai's version
>>
>>23868250
>>23868259
to my knowledge the mgex bootleg doesn't have significant fitment issues, it's surprisingly good quality
this is based on anecdotal reports but still, usually bootlegs with issues get shit on pretty quickly
>>
>>23868254
oof, most effects are for small guns like regular old beam rifles, you might be forced to get creative and look at 3D printing, otherwise I've seen videos where some people make plastic tubes, paint them yellow, insert a strip of LEDs for the TBR effect
>>
Update: The white zetas paintjob survived the transformation

Any good tutorials for hand brushing Mr Surfacer 1500 on gunpla parts?
From quick searches it looks like people just paint straight from the bottle and wet their brushes in thinner as needed, but after trying myself I'm realizing I don't really know what end result I'm looking for. It's pink primer and I wouldn't say the coat is evenly pink throughout the entire piece, is that normal?
>>
>>
can you mix mr. leveling thinner with gaianotes premium chrome or do I have to buy their overpriced metallic thinner as well?
>>
>>23868391
You cannot mix brands.
>>
>>23868383
The FA armour parts are fucking great. Nice to get more foot extensions and diffuse boosters too for cheap.
>>
>>23868391
It doesn't hurt to give it a try on a spare piece or spoon.
>>
>>23868156
Cool goose, is the lance default or did you add it on?
>>
>>23868391
Isn't it already prethinned for airbrushing? Also it you're doing metallics use rapid thinner not leveling, it gives a better shine
>>
The hardest part about gunpla building is making sure I don't accidentally scratch the paint or put too much force on the weakening ABS inner frame parts (already happened to my current project) during the final assembly and posing.

Not drinking that delicious smelling thinner is the bigger challenge for me.

I almost accidentally spilled blood to Plamor again but for some reason my knife blade did not cut into my flesh yet I felt the force of it? Then I remembered watching Baki earlier today where Musashi cut Orochi without cutting into him... coincidence? did I learn how to handle the blade unconsciously?
>>
>>23868610
Congrats, you've mastered the true way of the plamo. You have reached peak plamo bushido and only cut what you need to actually cut. Next, you need to become the plamo.

I hate it so much... do I really need to buy ABS cement for this? superglue is absolute shit
>>
>>23868698
I agree with him, this bootleg looks ugly as fuck, on the same tier as those Nilsen "Tallgeese" monstrosities. Also, even if you do get it, you have nothing to pose alongside it, so it's a waste of money.
>>
>>23868699
>joint part
You're fucked, even cement doesn't work unless you reinforce it with metal pins or extra pla plate.
>>
>>23868699
Cement would do a better job, but that kind of small shit can't really be fixed while retaining movement. You generally need to pin joints to have any sort of structural integrity when repaired and that's simply too small. So your best bet is to just decide on a pose and glue it in place.
>>
>>23868699
It's fucked mate, cement can't save that
>>
>>23868701
>>23868702
>>23868703
So how do I do fix it? my 1 month of effort just goes to waste?

>glue it in place
yeah super glue doesn't work. it's a Backpack thruster, I don't need it to articulate

>metal pins or extra pla plate.
I'll look it up, but seems to be expert stuff...
>>
>>23868708
If you don't need to it articulate it it's easy, just grab some cement and glue it in position. You might need to sand off the super glue so it's plastic on plastic again but that's all you would need to do. But as a joint that moves it's fucked, your only real option is to fix it in position.
>>
>>23868713
>grab some cement and glue it in position
So I just pour the glue on top of the cemented parts? wouldn't they melt each other?
>>
>>23868708
>seems to be expert stuff
Welcome to the world of Gunpla, where on top of learning to prime and paint and airbrush, you also learn engineering tricks to repair broken parts and even make your own from scratch.

>>
>>23868700
There's Fatcat's God Gundam though?
>>
>>23868715
Yes, that's how cement works. And why you can say goodbye to articulation. You take the little dabby brush the cement comes with and dab the parts you want to melt together, then press. The parts melt and fuse and it becomes one piece.
>>
>>23868718
No, I mean wouldn't the super glue cancel out the cement, vice versa? oh, buy GLUE it in position, you mean cement acting as a glue?
>>
>>23868717
>1/87 scale
Did I stutter?
>>
>>23868719
If you are using cement then you wouldn't need super glue on top of that, no. Sorry, I didn't mean to confuse you.

Today I learned just why people seem to use metal containers for lacquer. I bought a cheap ass beaker for mixing some lacquer with hobby thinner. It works fine... until when I was cleaning up and the paint seems to stain the plastic even after pouring hardware store thinner. And then the top layer of the beaker seems to cloud and lightly deform.

I forgot there's even a Breaking Bad episode with a similar premise involving clearing up a dead body in a tub kek.
>>
>>23868698
Imagawa stole a bunch of names from the chinks when making G Gundam. In this specific case, I'd say it's fair the chinks steal shit back.
>>
>>23868722
I wish I had the skill to just break my kits and fix them like he does. He gave no fucks on snapping parts. I'd be stressed out just twisting something the wrong way.
>>
is there any reason to use spray can topcoat when airbrush topcoat is far cheaper and more efficient?
>>
>>23868750
Not really no. Cans are only good for people who can't get a airbrush setup going for whatever reason. Or portability I guess? But let's be real, you aren't going to go build and paint in nature or some shit.
