On rewatch, I was actually wondering: Well, what did Kou actually accomplish? In hindsight, Gato basically managed to pull off all his goals, from nuking the Federation fleet to Operation Stardust, even if he didn't survive it (but then again survival was always a long shot anyway).
Even when Kou launched in the Dendrobium, he didn't manage to stop the Colony Drop, and the Zeon remnants were already doomed anyway. The Solar Ray did more damage than one man in a powerful Mobile Armor could ever hope to do, even if he put up a really impressive showing.
He didn't even defeat Gato, despite having the advantage up until his I-Field was destroyed.
Unless I have fundamentally misunderstood something, it feels like he could have done nothing and it would have made no difference.
All Kou accomplished was killing people who (generally speaking) were going to die anyway, and Cima, who was a dead woman walking.

Ultimately? He at least TRIED to do something. He couldn't stand by, and watch Operation Stardust happen. However, he was a good scape goat for the failure of preventing it, got court martialed and all.

It just felt really strange to me. I thought it was awesome when he finally got the Gundam with the grotesquely large Mobile Armor stuck onto it, but it took me a while to realize "Hang on, this doesn't actually change anything."
I may be wrong, but I don't think the Delaz Fleet and Gato were escaping alive anyway. Kou also didn't seem to significantly damage the Neue Ziel in their final battle (in fact he's the one who comes off worse in that encounter.)

>Well, what did Kou actually accomplish?
Hmm...well Kou stopped Gato from bringing back Gundam GP02 to the Delaz fleet, and having them reload it with another nuke. This stopped Gato from doing another nuclear attack.

That's a good point, I forgot they had more than one nuke.

He helped produce good combat data.

>Kou
>Scapegoat
You got it wrong, Anon. The true scapegoat was Synapse. He was trialed and got executed after 0083. Kou himself and the remaining crew of the Albion was either dismissed or press-ganged into the Titans

>Synapse
To be fair, he did disobey orders, and then hijacked GP03 at gunpoint. That is literally something they execute you for in the military.

>remaining crew of the Albion was either dismissed or press-ganged into the Titans
I dunno. They looked pretty happy with their new uniforms and new ship. Their new ship was massive and absolutely made the Albion look tiny in comparison.

>That's literally something they execute you for in the military.
Yeah, but my point was more that he was put the blame for Operation Stardust on top of that

>They looked pretty happy with their new uniforms and new ship. Their new ship was massive and absolutely made the Albion look tiny in comparison.
I mean, I'm not saying they were forced at gunpoint or anything, and by the start of Zeta, Titans membership is actually a pretty sweet deal...
But, knowing what they did about Stardust, I always assumed they were volunteered to join the early Titans rather than just joining them on their own.

I always get the hunch the Titans weren't gonna let the Albion crew really live all that long once they joined the Titans.

White Base did what it did because General Revil was very interested in what they could do, would send them supplies, and gave them important missions like attacking M'Quve's mining operation and having them participate in the attacks on Solomon and A Baoa Qu.

Albion was ordered to chase Gato and the GP02A, but they had no idea where to go and end up futzing about after getting into space, needing to dock at Von Braun after the GP01 gets trashed, and they end up not finding Gato again until it was already time for the Naval Review's nuking. Admiral Kowen had his hands tied and couldn't give them any support.

Well, there is ONE thing that Albion and Kou end up accomplishing - they accidentally screw up Cima's secret meeting with Wyatt where she was trying to sell the plans for Operation Stardust. Since the Albion found them and launched Kou and friends to intercept, it ended up preventing the Federation from learning about the full operation. The documents were in the briefcase that Burning recovers but his GM melodramatically blows up before he could bring it in. It should be stated that Cima still ends up selling the operation plans anyway, but it happens later offscreen and it seems she sells to Jamitov instead of Wyatt. It's possible that if Wyatt had the information then he might have acted differently, he sure as hell would have altered defense plans for the naval review, since he wouldn't want to die there if he already knows the full details for what direction Gato was going to approach the fleet from. Maybe after that he might even send forces to prevent the colony from being hijacked and stop the colony drop from happening at all - and the Feds can still claim they stopped a POTENTIAL colonyjacking and colony drop, like how in 0080 the news reported the Feds successfully stopping the Zeon ships carrying a nuke with the intention to use it on Al's colony.
>>
>>23870407
That’s because they didn’t. And they never planed to do a second
>>
>>23870701
Why not? Just load another nuke and send GP02 to hit another target.
>>
>>23871531
They didn't have a second nuke. They only had the 1 that was loaded into the GP02
