-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.

When Katoki was designing Ex S, Bandai kept shaking their heads and said " This is not a Gundam ". Model Graphix asked him to redesign it several times until it gained a more Gundam-ish looks because even the editorial department agreed with Bandai that something felt off about it and they needed the design to be approved by Bandai, too. The thing got stuck in development hell until Katoki colored the sketch in the classic tri color using some markers and only then, Bandai said
>Yes! Now this is a Gundam!

According to the HG manual the MS-14 does indeed exist in the GQ timeline, it just lost out to the gMS-01 as Zeon's next-generation general purpose MS. So yeah, that throwaway line about Zeonic "cancelling" their projects after the Gundam's capture was bullshit.

You don't have to paint if you don't want to. It's a hobby, not an obligation. I don't paint all my kits. Some are full paints, some are partial (mainly joints/inner frames), some are snapbuilds with some slight painting for details etc.

And with that we're officially done with the V2AB ver ka. I messed up on the canopy, made it too orange instead of that yellowish gold that the F-35 has. Didn't like the default clear canopy and wanted a tint, also my lacquer was too hot for the clear part and it orange peeled on me.

Hold up fellas. I'm actually retarded. The manual says it's light gray right there in the corner.

I think if I do 40 light gray, 20 white and 10 lemon yellow that would put me roughly in the ballpark. No need to get more paints.
>>
>>23878400
It's a test project that was never put into mass production, like the Gyan in regular UC. Once Zeonic obtained the RX-78-02 it became the foundation for their next line of mass production suits, hence the Gelgoog looking like a GM.
>>
>>23878620
I try getting six HG kits, two or three RG kits, and two MGs a year. 10 hour night shifts from May to September tend to wear me out especially towards the end of the stretch. Being on call to set up temporary signs when some drunk fuck nugget runs one over doesn't help either. The only good thing about having such a huge quantity is that I've more or less bought everything that catches my eye. So the various 10%/20%/40% sales around the various holidays see me buying paint and the occasional sanding sponges.

Top Rim/half done. The right arm annoyingly wants to seperate right below the shoulder. Hopefully that doesn't affect it holding it's gun/beam saber. Really liking how these colors turned out, even if I've found a few other pieces my clear coat melted a bit after yesterday's mishap. Luckily they are mostly unoticable after a few feet .
>>
>>23878791
It's very good at holding its gun and sabers. Do not worry.
Also do yourself a favor. When you move the arms, make sure to hold it by the back of the elbow and the front of the wrist. It'll keep the whole thing from falling apart.
>>
>>23878792
Oh I know how to move it, this is actually my second MG Victory (although the other was built in like 2011). The peg in socket is just noticably looser on the right than the left and was a bit annoying when docking the core fighter.

Water slides won't hurt the finish or anything? Is it even worth doing decals since I can't add a top coat to protect them?
>>
>>23879407
Ive never had a decal peel off when i use mark fit and mark setter without a top coat but I dont handle my models too much either after I build them.

You probably wouldnt want to handle that special coating model too much either. Looks like a fingerprint magnet.

SD proportions are unappealing to me.
Especially since there is no consistency in specific proportions or scale between any of the SD sub brands.

Generally speaking, unless it's a really shitty bandai waterslide or just a super old decal they aren't gonna just peel off on their own. If you aren't handling something it won't get fucked.

Mgsd seems like its own thing, more like an MG than an SD. Its a new line but I think there is a uniform scale amongst them.

>There was an outcry recently about them announcing prepainted terrain.
Warhammer is like a drama festival. Not so long ago, fans were shitting on female Custodes. Even the Primaris Marine debut was bumpy and GW had to retcon them into upgrades ( initially they were next generation Space Marines ).
>>
>>23879781
A modern resin printer is going to produce higher quality outputs than most injection molding.
>>
>>23879789
That's a lot more work than you think it is. You don't need to do that to plastic.

>>23879803

>>
>>23879806

>>
>>23879803
The detail is not the problem. However, 3D printed kits have like billions of nubs and possible defects. The technology is still too young.
>>
>>23879807
Please post something you designed, printed and painted and explain how that was easier than painting a piece of plastic.
>>
>>23879806
>He seems to think it'd be easier to design, print and paint resin parts than to just paint plastic ones
If the plastic parts look like ass and you'd have to basically reshape them by hand to get them to look good then yes, it would be easier
>>
>>23879803
Resin printing is also a worse biohazard than airbrushing lacquers, and it's going to cost you a fuckload more in photosensitive resin to print the same volume in parts. Not to mention that because resin parts can snap really fucking easily you can never print any load-bearing parts.
>>
>>23879810
You're jumping in to defend a guy who's throwing a fit because he's too stupid to work on models
>>
>>23879812
It's not. Airbrushing lacquer is worse by far. 3D printing resin doesn't off gas very much even compared to resting solvents, like IPA. The mix is very stable. Most of the VOCs from resin printing comes from the IPA bathing part when you're agitating the IPA.

Meanwhile airbrushing lacquer is literally aerosolizing solvent. Might as well just huff VOCs if you're painting without a respirator.
>>
>>23879814
You can't even sand resin without precautions. Resin is incredibly toxic.
>>
>>23879471
The Victory is an underrated design. It's better design wise than the V2, and I like how it still retains a unique but subtle Gundam look to it compared to many of its contemporaries.

Depends on the resin. A reputable brand that's been properly washed and post-cured (when you stick it in the led box) is going to be, effectively, safe. No plastic is going to be perfectly safe. They all have additives and small amounts of contamination from metals. That's why skin-safe and medical-grade plastics are expensive, they're made to specifically higher standards.
>Fig. 4: The effect of extracts of various concentrations from 3D printed, washed, dried and further cured parts at 45°C for 3 minutes on the cell viability of the mice fibroblasts (cytotoxicity). A decreasing number of living cultivated mouse skin cells were observed during a 24-hour period at 37 °C in this test. Mild, moderate and high cytotoxicity levels are represented by shades of grey.
Of course, that's a risk with those chinese brands. But honestly probably could be solved with more post curing or heated post-curing. I just stick a heater in my resin curing chamber to cure them at 40C with the lights going.

https://blog.prusa3d.com/everything-you-always-wanted-to-know-about-resins-and-safety-sla-printing-but-were-afraid-to-ask_70758/

Your composite tooth fillings are basically made out of the same stuff but thickened into a putty btw (you can also buy consumer UV resin putties for modeling). But they're obviously carefully engineered and manufactured to have fewer VOC ppm, and dentists are supposed to do a proper job curing and processing them, but they still literally grind them down in your mouth when adjusting the shape.
>>
>>23879817
Also, i don't think the average gunplafag can stand having to work with superglue for the entire assembly and fix the warped parts. Resin kits are basically military plamo on steroids.

The transformed forms aren't even that good (have you ever seen anyone display either Victory as a Top/Bottom Rim display?). It's largely held together with C clips and likes to drop its arms. It's not bad, per se, but it requires a lot of love to make it work. A few applications of joint strengthening pen saved me from having to glue the arms in place. I also had to fix a few broken C clips when I disassembled it but that's just an american power hand issue and isn't an issue with the kit.
Overall, I think the normal victory is a lot more stable. I think it's just because it's lighter and isn't as reliant on C clips. They both look fantastic though. I wish I had an excuse to build another victory.
Perhaps I'll get a V-dash and the assult buster version. Apparently the buster has a ton of plated parts that aren't undergated and I like a good challenge.

HG kits and its not even close, you get a couple hours of build time (assuming youre cleaning your parts and not being an animal), a decent canvas for painting if thats your thing and you end up with a (usually) good looking model with decent-good posability.
Its the largest line, the most frequently available at most hobby stores AND is amongst the cheapest

If youre looking for specific kits then that will depend on whats available to you locally. Go to your nearest shop and ask the friendly asian man or weeb behind the desk

Everyone actually displays the tops because they both come with a second top fighter.
>>
>>23880287
No, that is the core fighter. The top Rim is the waist/chest/arms+core fighter. The bottom rim is the crotch joint/legs+core fighter. That's the reason why both come with 2 core fighters each and the V-Dash comes with 4.

Golf's Messer F02 got new equipment in movie 2 while Fencer's F02 still has the Minelayers.

We may get more M01 variants if they want to sell a pbandai variant. They did say that Gawman's one isn't tuned and has the grey shoulder unpainted due to being rushed out and director mentioned that machines are meant to be adjusted properly as they enter mass production so a typical pilot could operate them, implying more M types will appear for the replacement pilots.

I am eager to see if Gawman's M01 model kit comes with a regular left shoulder as well.

>The Difference Between the Messer M-Type and F-Type
>“We had always intended to bring out the Messer M-type. Katoki’s idea was that the M-type and the F-type were fundamentally identical in performance, with the only real difference being the factories they came from. But personally, I felt it might be better if there were at least some slight distinctions. So I was glad Director Murase added that line about it still being ‘quirky as ever.’ Of course, that may only be a trait of the early production type. As manufacturing continues and ramps up, it’s entirely possible that performance tuning would iron things out and bring them closer to a standard baseline. After all, once you start assuming less experienced pilots will be coming into the fold, it would hardly be surprising if they put more effort into adjustments.” (Genma)

>The M-Type and F-Type Are Fundamentally the Same Structurally
“In the setting, the M-type and the F-type are built on the same frame. At first, visually speaking, we were also moving forward on the basis of that same frame. But they ended up looking too identical, so partway through, both the M-type and the F-type were each drawn with their own distinct details. The shared frame remains, fundamentally, a setting-side concept. Unlike the M-type, the F-type stores its beam saber under the armpit area. The M-type, by contrast, has that underarm armor sealed shut, so its beam saber is stored inside the spike shoulder armor on the right shoulder.” (Genma)

No they aren't. The whole overhang pack is actually just a backpack that slots into the normal backpack. It's (like most of the V/V2) a pretty impressive design in elegance and function.
It comes with 4 fighters because it's the Hexa. V just comes with 2 core fighters, Hexa comes with 2. They just duped all the runners and replaced V's head with Hexa's.

I accept I'm wrong about that. I built the V-Dash a decade ago and the Overhang packs have been in the box since I didn't want to use a stand.
Iirc the release order went Victory -> V-Dash expansion pack -> V-Dash standalone, so they probably just put all the runners from the first two in the third. I was actually really surprised to see the base Victory getting reprints at all.

Psycho Gundam MK2 was to complete the Z Gundam 1/144 lineup. Destroy Gundam was for Seed Freedom.

1/100 Xi Gundam may have a chance if it is still long remembered after movie 3, with an ultra high price point.

Denan Zon could make many variants and it is currently promoted by the F90 Cluster manga for 1990s Gundam fans.

We all know that Bandai focus on HGs and MGSDs now as they want to keep the majority of their products within a price point. Large items are once in a blue moon and irregular. Though, lately their new factory did allow them to reissue MG G Armor and The O which did not get a reissue for 14 years. So they may be testing the market for large items.

Either way, if Bandai won't do a 1/100 Xi Gundam, Chinese will likely to make one first. Their KO 1/144 sold well.

Chinese will always venture into things that are outside of Bandai's regular scope.

I didn't notice that when I initially tested it, kinda cool though

A lot of people use furnace exhaust fans, inline duct fans, circulation blowers, even bathroom exhaust fans. You can find most of them on amazon, and pretty much anything around 100 burgers with 100+ cfm will be quality and worthwhile.

The new Gustav Karl is pretty damn great compared to the older ones, legs are nice and sturdy despite the added (unnecessary to me) features to them. I don't know why they went with this particular bazooka design though; they should have used the Stark Jegan style with the magazine gravity feeding so it doesn't get in the way when posing it over-the-shoulder. I'm sick of bad over the shoulder bazookas bros. They're so cool but most kits don't do them well. The spread palm is nice, love to see it, and the hands in general are pretty good quality. The trigger finger is obnoxiously long though and makes compatibility with other stuff a pain in the ass just because of that really. It's nice they're bigger to match the Karl's size but it's actually a huge pain to use any of the other Jegan beam rifles or the Jesta's rifle with it. Anything without a trigger guard is pretty much alright but of course the finger looks really silly sticking out so far. Just autism things, it looks okay with the beam sabre hands holding a trigger-guard-less rifle anyway. But it's still weird. They did this with some of the RE100 trigger fingers too, Vigna Ghina II's is just fucking weird. It's just a strange issue.
>>
>>23880784
Oh and I'm a little annoyed they didn't package the ReZEL rifle with it but I'm sure a future release will or some shit as a variant. In general the options for beam rifles that don't look like small little dinky things in the Karl's hands are few and far between especially with lore autism in mind. The new rifle mold is ever so slightly better looking in its hands appearance wise but still feels like a sidearm for something this bulky. I wish they'd give them a larger beam rifle or some kind of heavier beam weapon at some point, just a different proper option to pose them with because there just isn't much that fits for them lorewise without a new design. I don't have a ReZEL so no gun to steal from for it myself, but really I'd rather see something like a beam bazooka for it. It needs something hefty. It's a big guy.

I was expecting it to be be priced the same way as the larger ones. I'm really interested in how it builds as the fortalezza might be the most complex to recreate out of all the tank legs.

even if you don't play Blue Archive, this kit is going to be a hot item regardless because of the maid costume. it's going to be a very popular kitbash material.

Oh, great, 572658th Idolmaster kit nobody outside of Japan buys. But surely Bandai will ship tons of those to Europe instead of 30MM/proper Sisters kits and later complain that these don't sell.

I like the gun, it's a really cool shape but still generic enough not to clash and look out of place next to a lot of things.

Is it too humid to spray can a top coat of semi-gloss? It's like a swamp all week but I heard that you can do spraying in the 60%.
>>
>>23881228
I wouldn't bother, I've had frosting above 60%
>>
>>23881147
Does it matter now? You have the kits already, build them and enjoy.
>>
>>23881228
Holy crap, im in the South west U.S and no bullshit Im pretty sure I would actually melt in that level humidity. Most is 35% here during monsoon season
>>
>>23881227
The real problem is tariffs, when I bought mine it was the same price as Sandrock and Heavyarms Custom.
>>
>>23881078
will they include a gremlin faceplate?
>>
>>23881081
This is almost half the price of the Makoto, does that mean the Fuchi will be small and won't scale with the Makoto?
>>
>>23879887
Which kit?
>>
Wtf is the point of 30MF? If I want knight model kits I'll just get SNAA, they're the same price and way better.

I really hate giant knees on mobile suits. It looks like swinging a rifle around would just get caught on them and it'd get you killed when you'd need to shoot an enemy. Stupid design.

>>23880617
Paint a Hyaku-Shiki colors Zaku II. Say it's piloted by Quattro. Exclude the monoeye entirely.
>>
>>23881384
where'd you get it from? I've been eyeballing it on aliexpress but I don't trust any of the listings
>>
>>23881443
Gundammit. I looked on Ali too but yea, it can be kinda sketchy. Good price compared to ali also, 79.99$ before shipping
>>
>>23881443
>>23881447
I've never once had an issue on Aliexpress, just don't buy from the listings that are like 50% of the actual price.
