-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

-=GIRLPLA GROUPBUILD=-

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

Alright, you win this time, Although neither painted nor customized, my buddy on my end with his powerups has your buddy's back!
Also I normally don't fuck with green but that's a very nice shade of green. Neither an overshadowing protag shade, nor a dreary military one where it feels like nameless grunts are all going to die. And thankfully not neon either.
All of this reminds me that I have to build my GM II at some point, the very underwhelming middle sometimes-fascistic brother between the OG progenitor and the subsequent superbuddy

Has anyone here ever been to Anime Expo? I'm going to be in LA for the next few weeks and was wondering if it's worth attending. I'd mostly be going to look for rare gunpla, plamo, resin kits and MAYBE try to bring an Astolfo cosplayer back to my room.
>>
>>23921294
I envy Japan so much, they get walls of gunpla for cheap
In Europe I'm lucky to have one gunpla shop in my (large) city that's basically a tiny closet
>>
>>23921580
I went a few years back. There's various booths that sell plamo, and the gunpla booth is pretty prominent. The line for it wraps around and they only allow a few people into the booth itself at a time to shop. You'll find mostly clear kits and Gundam Base-exclusive stuff. You'll see a metric fuckton of cosplayers everywhere. Check the schedule to see if there are any panels you might be interested in attending on the days you're in town (there's no Gundam events this time, I already checked). Also check out artist alley, some people can sell some really cool Gundam posters/patches/keychains/etc.

>and MAYBE try to bring an Astolfo cosplayer back to my room.
You're on your own for that one.

>>23921589

he thinned his paint, he just put tamiya putty thinned with probably lacquer thinner as a paste onto the plastic surface to achieve a cast metal look before priming. but youve never heard of such a technique because you barely know basic airbrushing and half-arsedly putting on dry powder.

Also most mobile suits are made of Luna Titanium or other future alloys. They don't rust.
Space mobile suits don't get dirty, as there isn't dirt everywhere.
Ground mobile suits should only really be dirty up to like their knees with anything more than dust, unless they just went through a sandstorm. They stand tall enough for the wind to usually be strong enough to keep most dust from settling.
>>
>>23921845
Okay but what if they came across metallic archaea?
>>
>>23921845
nta, but while I'm fully aware that it would make no sense for a space-based suit to have standard green camo, that's not stopping me from planning that for an HG Kshatriya.
Fuck weathering, though. It always just looks like feces smudged over a suit.
>>
>>23921845
Space mobile suits may not get much actual dirt but they absolutely would get dirty from space debris, scorch marks, radiation and possibly corrosive atmospheres if they're located further into the solar system. Irl spacecraft are essentially constantly sandblasted by space dust, and mobile suits travel a hell of a lot faster than they do.

Yeah, most of Japanese children back then just build those monochromatic kits without painting anything, their childhood imagination will do the rest. Only a handful of autistic kids like Kobayashi and Kow Yokoyama painted and they are still a minority in the hobby nowadays. Gundam and mobile suits in general don't fit the shitstain type of weathering. They should look clean and high tech with an acceptable amount of panel lining.

Trying to plan out how to finally assemble the Valimar I picked up years ago.
I don't really want to reverse wash an entire kit. Am I crazy for thinking about doing just:
1)Prime the whole kit.
2)Hit the whole kit with lacquer gray metal (tbc)
3)After a day use sticky tack and a putty mold to mask all the trim.
4)Hit the trim with a gold lacquer.
5)Remove the tack after a day
6)Clear coat the part

Or should I just figure out how to use liquid mask? The sticky tack seems fine to me as it has always prevented paint from going under it when I use it to mount parts.

I did the decals I've decided on for my MG Nu ver Ka build. Decided to go pretty minimal as when I accidentally the off white pieces to a darker gray, it already breaks up the white a bunch.
Will probably give it a matte coat tomorrow. Going to use the newer GGX clear I have on hand, so assembled pics will be next weekend.
The GGX paint outside the drying has been pretty good. The white had crazy coverage power and the gloss clear sprayed easily. The fumes were noticably less when I entered the garage while they were drying after I turned off ventilation.

I have an interesting question for Keropla collectors: Has any of the DX 5-packs been reissued in recent years? Considering the DX Sets came with a few extras (like cloth material on the God Keron and Keroro Daishogun sets) or cardboard fold-ups (the Great Keron and Platoon sets have ones that allow you to make a base, along with a Mois cutout that could easily be replaced in the future by 30MP), they should be a hot commodity, especially after Bandai brought back the LBX Hyper Function stuff that also use cloth material.

I like a lot of what you've got going on here, particularly with the weathering on his ass. I would recommend doing a pinwash on all those tiny little details and lines he has everywhere. A dark brown or black, applied with a brush with a nice fine point would boost the overall look of this guy. Tiny details like the rivets will pop so much more.
>>
>>23921680
If you're willing you can make them from pieces of sprue. Cut them into tiny pieces with your nippers, drill some 3mm holes in the surface of your model (they don't need to be very deep), then glue the sprue pieces in there. Using a knife, cut a line bisecting the bolt's surface. Just go at it a few times with light cuts.

This Zaku III was built way before I got nippers and sanding sticks. Real talk, we need a revive of the HGUC Zaku III and we need it yesterday. It's way too good in GBO2 to just have a shitty 26 year old HG with baked-in arm pegs.

In my heart, the GM III IS a wonder weapon! ;_;
>>
>>23922284
I mean, it was mass produced from the Gundam Mk-II's combat data. Wish I could have taken a swing at piloting it during the Gryps War and see what that movable frame could do.

>he wasn't posting here during the Gryps War
You'll always be a newfag, but you're at least one of the better ones, the GM III is a friend.

Sometimes it's fun to get an old kit and spice it up with your more developed skills.
Pic related. I snapbuilt this shining gundam a few years ago. I cleaned up all my shoddy work from back then and painted it last month.
>>
>>23922286
The basic GM IIIs exist in a middleground where a lot incorporated basically no movable frame, being upgrades of GMIIs
All Nouvel GM IIIs are the high spec new production ones (according to Sentinel) though new Gundam sorta glosses over this for just there being new production GMIIIs that maybe (?) incorporated actual movable frames

Personally I think it's cooler in the Sentinel details and makes a bit more sense given the actual designs of the GM III vs Nouvel GM III so just wanted to share them anyway.

It's a direct bandai to consumer store.

People hate it for several reasons.

1. It's region-locked, so regions not serve cannot buy products offered there.

2. Some products don't show up in every store. Which means some, SMP, may not show up in the US store except for the SRW OG line.

3. The kits produced there are exclusive products usually which means they skip retail entirely, are produced in smaller quantities, drive up the base price, and depending on the kit, are harder to find and repressed so infrequently that many kits come into striking range and maybe if I did more research, exceed the amount of time more previously rarely repressed retail kits like the MG The O went out of stock for.

I've built and fully handpainted Ordine last year. I did all the silver trims with tamiya enamel over an acrylic gloss varnish, cleaning up any mistakes with thinner.
I'm also planning to do Valimar eventually.
I'd recommend you use Tamiya enamel titanium gold for all those details.
>>23921986
They look fine if you paint them and fill all the holes with putty. The articulation is the worst I've ever seen in my life, they can barely pose and stand up
>>
>>23922599
bullshit excuse to drive up the price to ridiculous amounts under the false argument of "MUH LOW PRODUCTION RUN BRUH" so you most likely will need to buy whateer p bandai item you want through a third party, thus greatly increasing the price for no reason beyond the "exclusivity"

the problem is that that business model began as an exception but now has become a rule and it is one of the main reasons why chang has been able to flood a market that bandai had shown nothing but destain in the last decade or so

I didn't realize Tamiya had two holes in their enamel line. Did some quick searches, and X-31 doesn't have the same issue with reverse washes that X-12 apparently does (saw some posts about it not cleaning up with enamel thinner). Ordered a bottle to give it a try.

Also your Ordine is what made me move it out of the permanent backlog into the "after I learn to paint" backlog.

Better hope the man from China filled out the custom forms with the right esoteric funny numbers and has all of the information related to safety testing (he doesn't) in case the custom agent decides to flag it anyway because they think it's for kids.

https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=XCS_hzI167g.

And to pre-empt the Europeans lmaoing at burgers, you guys are actually getting something kind of similar a few days ahead of us.

https://taxation-customs.ec.europa.eu/news/guidance-and-legal-text-temporary-flat-fee-low-value-imports-which-will-apply-until-1-july-2028-2026-06-08_en

Note the parts about safety testing.

I would advise you all if theres anything old you want that has zero chance of making it over to your country through retail/online sellers,
Get it however you can.

I work with someone in the UK who optionally established a presence in the EU to be ultra-compliant with EU imports for customer convience and he has no idea how these changes work.

I hate to get political, but, I'm feeling like we're at start of a global crackdown on international shipping for anything that isn't business-to-business at mass quantities that will be fully visible in the next five years.

>>23922703
I can guarantee the cause for that is, I doubt anything isn't part of Bandai's gunpla line outside of odd things like SMP isn't manufactured at scale enough where they can wholesale things at very low prices like bandai for products of similar size/mass. Add in the niche nature of Ideon compared to Gundam, the cost to ship directly from japan, The same taxes you pay, business overhead, and the fact it's probably harder have a pallet of mixed products from Aoshima & Bandai ship to the store.

All of this isn't cheap and adds to the cost needed for businesses to import things significantly.

The end goal is to soft regulate that method out of viability by imposing more and more restrictions and regulations till normal people and smaller business outside your home region don't want to have to deal with knowing all of the esoteric importing information and dealing with the bureaucracy of it all. To bring this back to the 90s and before where
customers can't easily get things directly and have to rely on local businesses to special order things and the governent can collect taxes twice on highly inflated costs.

Brushed on all the little details, tomorrow I think I'll touch the edges with some silver for wear and tear and call it done.

Tested enamel panel liner on my gloss coat on a spoon and it eats through it. So still using the gundam pen and trying to be careful for panel lines... Tamiya topcoat is unobtainium right now too.

You may have applied to little varnish on it. I'd suggest you use vallejo mecha varnish, it's my go to, way better than their regular clears. Beware of using a tamiya spray can on any acrylic, laquer will absolutely destroy any acrylic it finds underneath
I'd also recommend you use a decal solution like microscale's in the future
