Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.

-=GIRLPLA GROUPBUILD=-

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

People have put minimal effort in to this hobby since the day it began. The fact that the pieces come out of the box pre colored is an endorsement of it.

Doesn't help that, in this thread in particular, if people post poor results at fully finishing a kit they get blowback.

I love Tomino and Gundam a lot and want to put more time, effort, and money into this hobby, but I was also recently diagnosed with epilepsy within the past year, have had multiple seizures where I fall to the floor unconscious and needed stitches in the side of my head, and I am American so a trip to the ER will cost me at least $350.

I really want to make more friends with people who know about Gundam, and I apologize for not being more serious about my plastic model kits. My bad.

I have quite a bit of free time currently so it's been 7 kits painted since the end of my almost year long break in the middle of April. I'll probably slow back down soon. I've also been less creative than usual, mostly painting the kits with little modifying. In the case of this Sigrun I sharpened up some angles and removed the seams on the head which were bothering me, but not much else. I'd like to get back into doing more extensive kitbashing but I'm feeling a bit uninspired by the kits I currently have unpainted.

Well shit. Guess I have to figure how to to drill and pin.
What are the common size bits/brass rods I should buy?
>>
>>23924048
Plausible deniability
>>
>>23924094
2mm brass rods will be the most common size you'll use, sometimes 1mm for tiny pegs such as head joints.
For drilling, I use dspiae's hand drill with 2.1mm and 1.1mm bits and the rods fit perfectly.
>>
>>23924105
2mm is to big for that, not much plastic will be left and risk it deforms the part, 1mm will do. You can also just use a paperclip if you want to use a metal pin, glue it all together with gel super glue. If it is PS you can also use some PS rod, if you use Tamiya super thin and it fuses all into one.
>>
>>23924094
I don't think drill and pin will fix that one.
>>
>>23924105
>>23924114
Picked up a variety of .5 to 3mm bits in a pack. Some brass rod to match.

Also it is kinda annoying that it doesn't work on a standard action base without the U holder. Kit is new enough where it should have an adapter even if it comes with a custom stand. The custom one will look weird on the shelf next to all the others.

it means katoki had input on the overall look of the model kit. for a design that wasn't originally made by katoki, then it means he redraws the lineart in his style, some detailling is different, some proportions change, and that gets turned into a model kit. for a design that was originally designed by katoki in the first place, it means he took another look at it and updated the lineart, maybe added some more gimmicks and weapons that weren't originally part of the design.

the G-Unit gundams were actually common back then because they came out at the same time as the HG EW kits. that's how people were made aware of its existence. for some reason though, the manga never reached overseas.

I would guess since I see waterbased acrylics, nowhere. They're there to catch the overspray but there's a widespread misunderstanding that you don't need a mask if your spray station is good enough air pull or if you paint waterbased acrylics. Obviously you shouldn't breathe that either. At least a dust mask is needed.

>>23924138
You're right, in this case I would go near 2mm and use paperclip out of cheapness, I would also fill the cross sections either with superglue+baking soda or uv resin first to give more material to sink into. Also the other side of the peg that's still there is thin because beyond it is a circle thats part of that joint. Too far in and the joint won't move anymore.

Seems like you've got the general idea down. All that's left is to maybe go in with your main color and fill in the flat surfaces with it, if you want to sharpen up your shaded areas or correct any overspray; then thin down your main color a bit more than usual and build up all over coverage with light coats until the shading is as subtle as you desire it to be.

>>23924773

I find the Victory's legs more annoying than anything the V2 does. Their extension mechanism isn't particularly tight on mine and makes them a bit of a floppy mess. The back skirt armour doesn't like being touched much either and the arms have the same loose elbow-to-bicep connection on both of them, but on my V it's a little worse (probably just from age).

I'd definitely take V2 every day, the only problem I ever have with the base V2 is that the legs are so stupidly pose limited. The angled spread of V2AB fixes that enough for me however.

I never said either are very stable. I think I'm just still mad about how the V2 I built likes to drop the arms if you move them at all. It's just infuriating.
I just expect everything to get floppy at some point so now I build them with the expectation of it and compensate for it. It helps a lot of "bad kits" suck less. I have a unicorn I did a year ago and it's still not floppy at all when the one I snapbuilt years ago was floppy after like a month.

I feel like the excessive weathering style was popularized by Masahiro Ito. Yokoyama's weathering is nowhere near that.

>>
>>23925315
if you look at what he posts on his instagram, yokoyamas pinting style can be pretty dirty too. its just the product promotion models that are kept pretty clean. and im not even sure its actually kow that paints them. overall i wouldnt, with all due respect, cite kow among the best modellers. his style is cool but overall pretty gimmicky and reliant on brush stroke techniques (which he doesnt share grrr)

His weathering is still very subtle compares to the average Japs on twitter who always apply Ito's style to every Ma.K kit they painted. They still look dirty but it is a sensible, realistic kind of dirty.

Well this didn't work. Idk if it's a skill issue or a tool issue... The paint is splattering when airbrushing normaly (and I'm using an Ultra 2024, so I can't really pull back and the open the air valve), the paint flow is very inconsistent
(sometimes it flows, then stops, then oversprays...), the area of paint is way to wide too...

I think I'll put this plane on hold until I get a .28 kit instead of the .45 the ultra came with. I'm probably thinning the paint wrong (ratios, additives and thinners used...) too. The needle seal is way too tight too, I should adjust that too. Anyone knows of a cheaper alternative to H&S' tool for that?

Snapshitted it together. Honestly a really dull HG, not much you can do for poses unless you use the wires. I know he's a 2001 kit but I think the lack of head/neck articulation is just because he's a super non standard design. Also probably doesn't help that he's my least favorite Char suit.

But he's big and was only $15 so I can't hate too much, HGs in my area usually start at $40. Seems he'd be really easy to paint too due to low piece count.

Effort snap HG Schwarzette.

I'm an avid 1/144 hater since it's simply too small and lacking in things like the fun in building inner frame, part separation and sticker abuse to fix color accuracy (HG) or too microscopic detailed for its size (RG). I bought this one because it's an extremely cheap bootleg (surprisingly 11/10 quality and value with the free stand base and WSD) and I've simply given up on B*ndai releasing (actually) new MGs, especially for this badass jobber suit.

But now I'm not so sure if I hate 1/144 anymore. This is kinda ok, actually. can anyone give me recs of good HG that
1. don't abuse stickers to fix color accuracy
2. don't have a 1/100 version

I was interested in Atlas, but seems like a huge pain in the ass to fix all that color inaccuracies, so never mind
also Calibarn, but it seems way too popular to not get an MG version or even Chinese Upscaled/GK version

it would be kinda cool to have a year long "high effort" groupbuild
something like a diorama or a heavy custom project or multiple units in a squad, a warhammer army etc
There could even be smaller quarterly group builds still going, but it'd be fun for the slower or more involved builders and to push people into trying to make something past the bounds of their experience.
>>
>>23926525
>>23926520
What about a "Team Build" long group build where
First round) normal Group build
Second round) Builders from first round are paired up, have to make a kit that matches the others first round
Any additional rounds) Continues the pattern.

so, the first ever flipland gundam base opened yesterday and it was basically a nothing burger.

normal kits are priced at standard mall price, most of the limited items are clear kits or special coating. and the few pbandai items like MG ReGZ CCA are more expensive than if you buy from online.

i guess theres value in getting it on person than waiting for a few months if you order online.

but theres a fuck ton of mg vdash gundam there right now

That's basically all Gundam Bases. Clear Colors and Special Coatings, and anything retail is sold at MSRP. If your country doesn't have a P-Bandai then it's better than getting scalped buying from an online reseller. About the best stuff they have are Gundam Base color variations like Lacus or Haro or The Gundam, and original molds like Nu-FF, G-Self Movie, Tolro, etc.

I feel like the bazooka was cooler. I could see a top loading bazooka working well. Maybe even a tube-magazine for that MaK double cylinder look. Can even have it reloading it or something, or an extra ammo cylinder on the skirt or something. Or a pistol in the other hand, bazooka and pistol/SMG/carbine is some cool ass power armour shit.
>>
>>23926762
Actually just thought about it, but over the shoulder bazooka and underslung pistol/smg thing on the other arm would be rad, I think that'd balance nicely in look. Could even be some laser blaster or whatever obviously, MaK shit, just thinkin smaller form factor than a big rifle or something.
