I think it was because that was with a different airbrush that was half clogged and sprayed tiny amounts. Overspraying is probably what caused the red to end up more opaque.

I was looking at some bare plastic I topcoated last night before leaving for work today. Why does topcoat clear up all the pigment swirls in the actual plastic from the injection molding? I remember there being some pretty obvious ones in the blue parts, but looking this morning I couldn't find them. Is it because lacquer slightly melts the plastic surface and that moves the pigments? Or is the clear just messing with the light enough to make them hard to see?
