Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.

-=GIRLPLA GROUPBUILD=-

Build a kit featuring any brand of Girlpla, including but not limited to:
>Frame Arms Girl
>Megami Device
>30 Minute Sisters/Missions/Etc.
>Figure-Rise Standard
>Megalomaria
Additionally, any "Feminine" mechs like the Nobel Gundam or Valsione are fair game as well. What you do with your build in terms of theming is up to you so long as your base is "Feminine".

Send a description along with both WIP and Finished images of your build to gunplaplamo@gmail.com

MODEROID Aestivalis question: Besides the Black Sarena (because of course it's the Black Sarena), what Aestivalis is worth picking up? By the way, I already have the Ground Frame.
If nothing else, what do you want for your Aestivalis wishlist? If you think it's literally everything, then I have nothing else to say.

>>

I always like to differentiate the inner joint part when possible, instantly adds a lot more interest to the frame even if its like 4 spots on the whole kit.

Is removing water slides that you've already put setter (or softer, whichever one goes on last) simple? I'm guessing it's just putting it in water and it'd come off easily but I haven't tested it yet.
>>
>>23939901
no. you have to scratch it hard. water slides are very durable, it's like it became one with the surface.

EVO vs TRS vs Artisan Club.
>>
>>23939975
I've used EVO before. They're likely going to be UV reflective. So, they'll shine a blacklight nicely. But they were unusually fragile. Several tore on me when I did my Calibarn in a way Delpi and G-Rework never have.

>HGUC 1/144 HAZEL HIGH MANEUVER
Huh? Which Hazel is this? Advanced? Bandai never made the High Mobility Type in 1/144.

>>23940099
Reminder that AK Model is releasing bootlegs of all the Hazel options parts later this year. It includes multiple shield boosters and the high heels sold separately so it will probably be cheaper than getting a couple of Advanced Hazels.
>>
>>23940112
It's the Advanced Hazel. Like I said, I took it from the reprint thread on reddit so I don't know the exact reason, but iirc the way Bandai lists kits on order forms doesn't always line up perfectly with what they're actually called

I found the paint color guide on the back of the instructions, but I have no idea how to read this.
Do I really need to buy like 30 different paints to paint this kit?

We live in a world where model kits of turds, sneakers, Cup Noodles, eggplants/cucumbers on stilts, crumbled paper and gyoza exists, so...
>>
>>23940138
ok the turd one is news to me
>>
>>23940135
These are the exact mixes for the colors of the kit (top is Vallejo acrylics, bottom is mr color lacquers). If you are aiming for the exact same shades of each color as the parts are molded in (assuming it's a color plastic kit), you can follow these measurements. Also, if you can read the katakana, you'll notice that many of the paints suggested for mixing repeat themselves so it's not actually that many.
>>
>>23940133
I have the cat one, it's a nice kit. I like that it comes with regular furry and super furry limbs, and the legs are compatible with Megami Device thighs. Excited for the goat they showed off. I hope we get a cow girl and a pig girl too.
>>
>>23940143
Thanks! I have an airbrush that I usually use acrylics with to paint pictures, but is it a good idea to go with lacquers instead for models?
>>
>>23940133
You would think they could hide the seam lines better, with that character being a furry and all.

Lacquers are miles better in every way for airbrushing, easier to work with, better coverage, faster curing, more durable. The only downside is that they are more toxic and require proper ventilation. If your airbrushing setup has good ventilation (you might also want to consider a respirator although I personally don't use one) I would definitely recommend it.

How bad are cheapo airbrushes really?
Seriously considering this https://www.amazon.com/Rhinowisdom-Airbrush-Kit-Dual-Action-Painting/dp/B0C3QXSC5P
>>
>>23940223
They're generally bad. The least bad of the cheap chinese ones is master airbrush.
>>
>>23940226
Bad in what respect?
>>
>>23940228
They clog easily, are harder to clean and spray worse. Just worse at everything. Still usable but worse.
>>
>>23940138
Bandai saw this and was inspired to create a whole line of shitpla
>>
>>23940220
Yeah, never buy the official ones outside of SEA, Chinesium knockoffs are fine so long as they're not of such shitty quality that they'll snap while holding up your kit.
>>
>>23940220
just get a stick.
>>
>>23940223
if you want to go cheap get the neoeco sj83 from aliexpress, it's a decent starting airbrush
>>
I hate metal frames because modifying or fixing them with regular gunpla tools is basically impossible
>>
>>23940236
How can you tell if the stand is any good before buying? They don't have reviews or detailed info like knock-off kits do. And I don't really wanna gamble with my MG Rick Dom
>>
>>23940248
Honest answer, you can't. But stands are really hard to fuck up, just make sure that the pivot points won't come loose by themselves and the rods aren't so flimsy that they'll snap. If you can buy them cheap, try to test them with a less-valuable kit or just a piece of brick or some shit, if they don't yield under a heavier weight than your intended kit then they'll probably be fine.

Didn't some group release bootlegs of the MG Hazels earlier this year too?
>>23940316
I agree with this for the most part, Bandai just has a habit of waiting 4-10 years between reprints, also a lot of these are P-Bandai. I kind of want to get and make the model before I age another decade.

You can have all the model making skills in the world, but somehow you can't even do a decent standing pose worth shit to save your model's life. Why is this so prevalent in the gunpla community?
>>
>>23940357
Technical prowess doesn't come with creative flair and vice versa. I have a shit ton of idea for kitbashes I think would be cool but I don't have the technical skill to pull them off (yet)
