So the hooded Rei who retrieved Oto after her Shinkenger Ring got stolen by Fire Candle and the flashback of Rei meeting young Rikuo in the festival episode are actually portrayed by Suzuki (Rikuo's actor) instead of Ryoma Baba.

>That said, even though I grumbled about it, this is simply the outcome of the era's demands—namely, how to sustain children's content that will only dwindle and fade away amid this declining birthrate—so I'll quietly accept it and just look for other paths. Incidentally, I'm grateful to say that those other paths are currently keeping me fully occupied as it is.

How would you fix Gozyuger?
>>
>>23959216
Focus on more of the Universe Senshi users. Like the two-parters written by Arakawa focusing on this were great.
>>
>>23959216
For starters, letting the producer and everyone else responsible for the show know that it de-facto is going to be the last Super Sentai show for the foreseeable future
>>
>>23959216
The issue with Gozyuger is that nearly everything would have been fixed had the show had another head writer, but the producer already tried that and couldn't get the writer he wanted, that alongside not being told Gozyuger was the last Sentai for a while are why we got Akiko.
Obviously the thing that needed the most fixing was the character focus, the show needed to have more focus episodes on the other 4 rangers, one thing that would have helped significantly would have been pairing the Bridan rivals with the rest of the Rangers to help develop both together, pairing them better could have also helped the worldview exploration not feel as rushed.
But then the are other issues like the whole Taiya getting casted as the first rival but then the actor being too occupied to get back resulting in that whole deal getting resolved off-screen or the motw feeling detached for the story, the latter almost makes me wish we only had the rivals without motw but that might be separating from Sentai too much.
Ultimately I still like Gozyuger because while nearly every aspect was rushed they still were entertaining, I didn't really hate any character from the show, which in a way makes it more frustrating how all of the focus just went to a few cast members, I was specially pissed at how Kinjiro got sidelined despite being one of the best rangers of the show.

What are your stances on Project Red shows being two cours instead of the full year entries?
>>
>>23959233
I don't like it since I feel it contributes to the whole "no kaijin suits" deal since Toei doesn't take breaks like Tsuburaya.
Another issue is that not necessarily every story will adapt to that length as proven with Gavan Infinity, but at least it seems like Omegahorn will actually take advantage of that length luckily.

I think my one disappointment with Omegahorn right now is the lack of a 3rd secret unrevealed omega class monster. Watched cranjoes video on the encyclopedia and that was a big let down to find that out. Wouldve been a cool reveal to have later on

I randomly think the 3rd Omega class Kakuzyu's human form will also can transform into the equivalent of Captain Omegahorn.
Not sure if Eval will get a suit tho.

They should consider focusing on marketing toward all of their fans and not just children at this point if that's their big worry. They cant be dumb enough to think their biggest fans and well.. people putting the most money into their merch arent adults
>>
>>23959372
Theres KiEnkaku but its a mechanical beast built by the Higher power from gavan most likely as it doesn’t have an Egorgear

Gonna guess that RED 3 is magic but the caveat is no henshin hero, instead they wear robes and summon familiars that are the toy portion.

It seems like the Zenkaiger Black suit didn't exist by the time of Gozyuger and it was all done by editing the color of the actual Zenkaiger suit to mimic it.

The Universe Warriors in the finale also had their Tegasword edited in post from gold to silver.
>>
>>23959411
>The Universe Warriors in the finale also had their Tegasword edited in post from gold to silver.
Wait what isn't that more cumbersome than just painting them due to how small they are?
>>
I mean its clear that later shows will use Fade or Giriko as the blueprint, Shirakura even stated something akin to Demonslayer is where they’d like to end up at.

They meant in terms of sales, he said that their main competitors aren't other kodomo properties or international super heroes but rather Shounen such as JJK and KNY

Not really, the last few mecha of Sentai life had non-standard designs and on a general level their designs are far more creative than most mecha designs on the market.
The issue with the mecha in Sentai purely lies on how lacking they are in playability and how they really aren't worth it for how much they charge you for it.

The last 3 creatively new designs from plex was probably Tegasword, The Zenkai Machines and The origami from Shinken-oh and Kingohger, the rest within that time frame was just reiterations on past designs, Onitaijin is cool but we’ve seen it before as it harkens heavily to Kakuranger and Dairanger. Boondorio is just Arthur or Tetra Boy.
>>
>>23959521
Zetsu will be P bandai if they do them, they did them for Death Gavan so i don’t see why they wouldn’t
The last two DX toys for Omegahorn are
Reiji’s Crab Hekikaku in the beginning of October and KiEnkaku at the end of October, KiEnkaku can combine with Enkaku without the omegahorn and form tall legs, like onitaijin tall and a new armored torso section to give Enkaku a psuedo bio organic robo mode. Furthermore KiEnkaku can combine with the Gavarion Trigger to form something Reiji’s crab just forms extra blasters I believe. Thats it for 2026 new Toyline will start the end of january 2027 for Show 3

Just bringing up that I'm going through Sentai in whatever order my whims take me. Finished Toqger, it's currently my favorite season, most likely. In as brief as possible, I enjoyed absolutely every aspect of it. Final episodes got me to cry.

>On-set tests for actors’ skills: Filming the Ibar Union. Crafting roles that combine dignity and creepiness — Interview with Tazuru Shogo (Ibar of Zetsubou) and Konishi Eito (Zetsuenkaku) from Kakusei Hunter: Omega Horn.
>The series introduces one memorable Kakuzyu after another sealed in the Egorgears, and the Hunter Battles that break out wherever they go are a major highlight.
>This time we bring you an interview with Tazuru Shogo, who plays Ibar of Zetsubou, and Konishi Eito, who plays Zetsuenkaku. They talk about the show’s highlights, their process for building the characters, and what it’s like filming the Ibar Union, where rival Hunters gather.

>A dream come true: “Appearing in a tokusatsu production” as an actor’s goal
>How did you feel when you learned you’d been cast?
Tazuru: I was honestly overjoyed. Appearing in a tokusatsu production was a personal goal as an actor, and that dream came true. I’d always wanted my grandmother to see me on TV someday, and now that’s possible — so it was doubly meaningful. Being able to join a franchise that gave me so much excitement growing up is a huge motivator for my acting career going forward.

Konishi: I felt the same — tokusatsu was something I’d long admired, so being part of it simply made me happy. I also thought my father would be really proud, which made it even more special. The show feels very fresh, and when the producer said, “Let’s all step into this unknown world together,” I felt genuinely excited. I want to give everything I have to this challenging project.

>Do you have favorite Toei tokusatsu heroes or memorable series?
Tazuru: For Super Sentai I liked Ninja Sentai Kakuranger and Denji Sentai Megaranger. My first Rider was Kamen Rider BLACK RX, then Kuuga led into the Heisei Riders. I love the theme song for Kamen Rider Decade sung by GACKT — I still listen when I want to get pumped. Tokusatsu has always been woven into my daily life.1
>>
>>23961512
Konishi: I loved Tokusou Sentai Dekaranger, Bakuryuu Sentai Abaranger, and Mahou Sentai Magiranger. I remember always begging my parents for toys (laughs). My dad is a big fan of Kamen Rider Kuuga, so I have strong memories of watching with him and playing with sofubi figures together.

>Creating the characters
>How did you approach building your characters?
Tazuru: Shout and the others drive the story’s core, but as rivals we want to project energy that matches them. We don’t take a half-step back from our scene partners; instead we deliberately play against what they aren’t doing to show our strengths. I approached the role thinking “don’t give an inch” — give a slightly alien vibe that differs in pace from the heroes. It can easily slip into being plain “evil,” so I’m careful to maintain the line that these characters aren’t simply bad.

Konishi: Zetsuenkaku is especially mysterious early on. I want viewers to always be curious: “What is Zetsuenkaku thinking? Why team up with Ibar?” I aim to pull the story forward with that intrigue. Visually the character has refined, pure white looks and a gentle, almost fluffy way of speaking, but I’m conscious of the gap between that presentation and the fact that he’s actually an immensely powerful Kakuzyu.

>What’s your impression of the Kakuzyu Zetsuenkaku?
Konishi: It’s cool — I like the color. When I see the horns on the subhuman form I’m like “is that... me?!” (laughs). It still feels a bit unreal, but I’m really looking forward to it.

>Filming the Ibar Union tests actors’ skill
>The series includes many scenes of the Ibar Union with other Hunters like Berser of the Soaring Guide, Gennou of the Shattering Calamity, and Reiji of Ironclad. What’s the set atmosphere like?
Tazuru: We haven’t rigidly defined “this is what the Ibar Union is.” Between takes we joke around, but we don’t over-discuss the direction of the group’s acting. That’s because there’s mutual trust that each of us has thought deeply about what our characters’ “egos” are. We want the group’s on-screen chemistry to come from everyone’s moment-to-moment instincts, and that’s working well. When all five of us are together, the atmosphere shifts at the smallest movement; there’s a tension where even a split-second of hesitation would break it. It really feels like our acting is being tested.

Tazuru: Visually some may appear like “great leaders,” but for me the essence of leadership can be a purity close to the protagonists — a strong core of ego. Strength can present as power, beauty, or influence; how you read it changes everything. So I don’t want to be rigid about defining exactly “why” someone is strong. That’s why people call him “Ibar-kakka” or “Ibar-sama.” I try not to become too fixed in one expression.

Konishi: I also don’t deeply debate the acting direction with everyone; I prioritize the feel of the moment. I love the back-and-forth with the others: “If I move like this, you react like that — okay, then I’ll try this next.” Those exchanges create moments where I truly feel I’m living as Zetsuenkaku, and I enjoy the Ibar Union scenes a lot.

Tazuru: One scene that blew me away was when Ibar and Zetsuenkaku faced off. There are many ways that confrontation can play out, but the way Eito shifts his center when he moves felt almost inhuman. When I saw him on screen he moved at a speed that didn’t feel human — it was eerie.
(3/?)
>>
>>23961516
>Playing Zetsuenkaku’s subhuman form sounds like it requires special physical acting.
Konishi: I work movements like claw-sharpening gestures and a floaty gait that seems to defy gravity, aiming for a beastlike feel.

Tazuru: I tried to do the walk at home and it’s really hard (laughs). What’s impressive is that Eito doesn’t use the same trick every time; he has depth and range. Movements that would feel wrong in another actor become uncanny in him. That contributes to Zetsuenkaku’s creepiness.

Konishi: That means a lot. I constantly wonder if what I did was right, but that questioning fuels growth.

>Konishi, what’s your impression of Tazuru’s Ibar?
Konishi: Ibar radiates enormous ego. He has the conviction of someone at the center of the union, and he throws a lot of heat into the performance. I just return that energy, and good things happen organically.

>Director and producer directions that stuck with you
>Any memorable exchanges with the director or producers during filming?
Tazuru: Many things stood out, but one impression was how eager everyone was to forge a new genre within PROJECT R.E.D. — after Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity comes Kakusei Hunter: Omega Horn — people were all leaning forward into the unknown. The director spoke about balancing emotional release and sculpting the ego: “It’s not enough to just explode emotionally. Through push-and-pull in the acting, let the audience consider whether an ego is a ‘heavy, deliberate ego’ or a ‘sudden impulse’ — that may create a more interesting Ibar.” That really stayed with me.
I sometimes chose to stop overthinking and approach tests with raw feeling. Each episode has a different directing approach, and I was surprised by how varied the directors were.
(4/?)
>>
>>23961517
Konishi: I appreciated how a director would accept my proposals. When I asked, “Can I try it this way?” they’d say, “Alright, let’s do it.” Trusting our input as actors made the work more rewarding and made me enjoy exploring the script even more.

>This show also crossovers with Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity. Which character would you like to act with?
Tazuru: I’d like to interact with Kazanami Kumu. He’s a ninja and Ibar’s outfit has Japanese elements, so I think the pairing could create an interesting world-match.

Konishi: I was moved by Gavan Infinity’s KiKiKoTo duo (Iwai Kiki & Takanami Kotobuki). Their energy and color feel a little like Zetsuenkaku’s cute-but-odd vibe. I’d love to say “jouchaku” (steaming into suit) just once (laughs).

Tazuru: If Zetsuenkaku “jouchaku”-ed, that would be something else (laughs).

>Believing in kotodama — raising your voice
>In keeping with the show’s theme of “ego,” what’s the passionate ego or goal you want to achieve through this work?
Tazuru: From auditions onward I had a strong ego: “I must win the role of Ibar.” I expressed that conviction to the staff, and they saw it. The project’s catchphrase “Raise your voice” resonates with me: in the age of social media it’s even more important to stress the value of speaking directly and taking action. I hope the show prompts families to talk together — maybe play with the “Kakuzyu Kakuseiki DX Omega Horn” toy and have warm conversations. During auditions I told my manager, “If it’s not me, something’s wrong!” I believe in kotodama — the power of spoken words — and I want to deliver that energy to kids and adults alike.

Konishi: My ego is that I want this work to be loved across generations and to become one of my signature roles — a defining work for me.
(5/?)
>>
>>23961520
>Please give a message to readers looking forward to episode 1.
Tazuru: This show has alluring items like the Egorgears and Omega Horn, and it’s packed with tokusatsu highlights. Every week introduces Kakuzyu with distinct charms, so you’ll surely find one you want to root for or collect. I’d love for fans to cheer for Ibar and Zetsuenkaku’s subhuman forms, but don’t forget to support the Kakuzyu themselves. Personally, I’m pushing Zetsuenkaku as a top-tier pick, but I’d also like everyone to pick a “second favorite” Kakuzyu to enjoy (laughs).
There are many unusual developments you won’t see in typical tokusatsu. Wake up early on Sunday mornings and watch in real time — it’ll be worth the excitement!

Konishi: I’m really excited for episode 1 too. The pilot is crucial for any show, and Omega Horn’s first episode clearly presents the show’s “correctness” — its appeal. Each character is distinctive and strong, and the Kakuzyu designs are great. The series is packed with spectacle; I hope everyone enjoys it.

>A fiery “ego” for the unusual buddy and beast hunters — Interview with Sho Narahara × Masato Kunigami × Nanaha Itose about Kakusei Hunter: Omega Horn
The tokusatsu video series PROJECT R.E.D., where “red heroes” take the stage and characters from different works crossover, returns for its second entry: Kakusei Hunter: Omega Horn, which begins broadcast on Sunday, July 26, 2026!
>This work brings a parade of uniquely characterized Kakuzyu sealed in Egorgears! The “Hunter Battles” that unfold wherever they go are a major highlight. To mark the broadcast start, Animate Times spoke with the main cast of Kakusei Hunter: Omega Horn. We asked Sho Narahara (Shout the Fiery / Captain Omega Horn), Masato Kunigami (Enkaku), and Nanaha Itose (Giriko Wave-Slasher) about the show’s highlights, how they prepared for their roles, and the burning “egos” they bring to the project.

>>23961523
>I absolutely have to pass! — Taking on the audition >How did you feel when you learned you got the part, and how did people around you react?
Narahara: I went through multiple rounds of auditions before being chosen. Each time I progressed I felt excited, but I also had big worries — I really wanted to be chosen, so while I had strong determination I also kept thinking, “Will I really get it?” When I heard the result I collapsed to my knees; it felt unreal and I couldn’t believe it. I normally work with a group called SEVENIC, and when I told the members they were really happy and said they were looking forward to the show. That made something grow inside me — a strong sense that “I’m really going to carry this work forward!”

Kunigami: During the audition period, after reading the materials I felt “I absolutely want this”, so while waiting for the result I had times when I could trust myself and times when I couldn’t. It was an anxious excitement wondering “what will happen?” When I heard I’d passed, I was very happy. As for reactions from people around me: I’m the oldest of three brothers, and my youngest brother is 12 years younger. Through our mother I got messages from my brothers and their friends saying, “We’re looking forward to Omega Horn!”
The Toei tokusatsu works I grew up watching still carry tradition and history. While they’re made for children, they influence many people. Just like I once wanted to become a hero, I want to become someone kids today can look up to.
(7/?)
>>
>>23961524
>By the way, do you have a favorite hero from Toei tokusatsu?
Kunigami: I watched many works. For the Kamen Rider series, my parents even bought me second and third riders’ merchandise every year. My mother said it was worth the investment (laughs).
My favorite Rider is Kamen Rider Kaixa (Kamen Rider 555). Although the kanji are different, the character who transforms into Kaixa is Sōka Masato, and my given name is Masato too, so I loved him as a kid just because we shared the same name. He’s a bit of a darker character, but when you’re a child you don’t fully understand the story — just having the same name made me really happy.

>Mr. Narahara, do you have a favorite hero?
Narahara: I really love Engine Sentai Go-onger. It’s not my generation — it was airing right around when I was born — but I’m a huge fan.
I like the additional team members Go-on Wings. The fact that Go-onger’s first extra lineup introduced two added warriors felt like a hot development, and the action is cool. There are also many unmasked (“helmet off”) scenes, so it’s full of romance. My favorite moment is the Engine Combination sequence. Engine-Oh merges with many Engine Souls, and when Engine-Oh G12 forms, the buildup is incredible (laughs).

>Ms. Itose, you guest-starred as Mizuho Ijuuin in Avataro Sentai Donbrothers. How did you feel about being cast as a regular in this show?
Nanaha Itose (Giriko Wave-Slasher; below, Itose): I’d be happy if people recognized me from Donbrothers!
I auditioned for Toei tokusatsu many times and made it to the final round for Donbrothers and for Ousama Sentai King-Ohger, but I lost those final rounds and was really disappointed. So when I was finally cast this time, the sense of relief was huge. Of course I was happy, but because I had actually experienced the tokusatsu set with the Donbrothers appearance, my dream was something I couldn’t give up. I have two younger brothers, so I watched Toei tokusatsu across their generation as well.
(8/?)
>>
>>23961525
I used to think “I want to become a cool hero someday,” so now I’m ecstatic at the thought that I can show kids this is a viable job and inspire them. When the script arrived I was so happy I read it over and over (laughs).
I felt that much joy and also pressure, but now that I’m doing it I want to become a cool presence kids admire.

>One highlight of the show is the Kakuzyu. What do you like about Giriko’s horn beast partner Zankaku?
Itose: Zankaku is a Kakuzyu modeled on a shark and its spiky look gives off a very assertive, confident vibe.
Giriko herself becomes very assertive in battle, so please look forward to PROJECT R.E.D.’s new heroine — she’s totally different from the heroine images I’ve known so far.

>Giriko’s Zankaku Sword action is also a highlight. How has filming action been?
Itose: I’m doing full-on action! This was my first time doing action in my life — I’ve never punched or kicked anyone before (laughs), and I wasn’t especially sporty, so at first I worried, “Am I even able to move? Can I really do this?” But I’m doing real action work now, so please look forward to it.

Kunigami: She moves a lot, doesn’t she!

Narahara: It’s really powerful — she swings a giant sword bigger than her height, so watching it you think “that’s amazing!”
(9/?)
>>
>>23961526
>Enkaku, the Kakuzyu King, also has some impressive visuals.
Kunigami: Enkaku’s scenes are truly amazing! When I first read the script I thought maybe they’d do them in CG. As preparations advanced and I heard “we’ll do it with a practical suit,” I was shocked and asked, “How will that work!?”
When I saw the suit for the first time, the workmanship was incredibly detailed and I got excited to shoot the fight scenes. The suit actor is Naoya Iguchi, and the performance makes you wonder “is that really a person inside?” — he brings it to life as a creature. Because I’m playing the human/demi-human Enkaku, I spoke with Iguchi-san about incorporating beast-like movements into my performance, so I’d like viewers to pay attention to that.

>Playing a Kakuzyu in a human form (the demi-human form) means your approach differs from other Hunters, right?
Kunigami: Exactly. I also want to hold the Omega Horn device (laughs). The way you press the Egorgears set into the Omega Horn has its own character, which I like — and I already have a proper “horn,” so that helps!

>Shout the Fiery becomes Captain Omega Horn in the suit. How does it feel to transform?
Narahara: Wearing the suit was heavy and hot and tough, but because I grew up watching tokusatsu, the joy of being able to wear it welled up first and foremost. The suit actor Takahiro Yoneoka performs the action, and having tried the suit myself I realized how incredible it is that someone can move that well inside it.
The move where he turns his hat backward to transform is a brand-new transformation style I like. I think that’s one of the charms of Captain Omega Horn and Shout the Fiery, and I hope viewers pick up on it.
(10/?)
>>
>>23961527
>Do you get action tips from Yoneoka-san?
Narahara: Not only as Shout, but on a personal level Yoneoka-san asks “what kind of habitual moves do you have?” and then gives movement notes. Also, I’m left-handed, so the hand I hold the Omega Horn with isn’t fixed, and Yoneoka-san tends to match me by using his left hand too. He’s taught me how to spin the Omega Horn with my hands.

Kunigami: The way the Omega Horn is spun looks amazing!

>Which characters do you want to crossover with across dimensions?
>One big highlight is the crossover with Super Space Keiji Gavan Infinity. Which character from that world would you like to act opposite?
Narahara: I think I’ll get to interact with Reiji, but Shout is a completely different personality so I’m excited to see how their interactions will go. Also, I’d be happy if he could meet WaniPato (laughs). They’re so cute!

Kunigami: I’d like to meet Gavan Bushido. I tend to be drawn to supporting characters rather than main heroes, and if I were a kid I think I’d be attracted to Bushido. He’s silver and cool and has a kind of “wa” (Japanese) vibe. If ancient-feeling Enkaku met him, it might get so quiet that they stop talking forever (laughs). I’d love to see what happens — I want to act opposite him.

Itose: I want to visit many different-dimension Earths! On the Iota Earth (multiverse Earth I5109), I’m curious about Iwai Kiki who plays Gavan Luminous — he’s the brains type. Giriko is also written as smart, so I’d like to have a battle of wits. But Bushido is cool too, and since they both use swords I’d like to see them duel. I just want to travel across lots of Earths!
(11/?)
>>
>>23961528
>Anything memorable in your exchanges with the director or producer as filming began?
Narahara: This was my first acting job, so every day of shooting brought a new environment and many unknowns. Instead of constantly worrying “should I be doing more with Shout?” the producer and director told me, “Don’t worry so much — respect your own personality and grow together with Shout. If you stay true to yourself, you’ll learn and grow on set just as Shout learns through his encounters”. That really reassured me.

Kunigami: Enkaku isn’t human to begin with, so that makes the role difficult. He’s also a King, but he’s newly in the modern world and naive about it, with an almost baby-like side. I worry about balancing that casual side so it doesn’t erase his royal dignity. I often ask the director after takes, “Was that okay?” as we proceed.

Itose: From script readings onward, the director and the staff created an environment that accepts anything. It’s easy to ask questions, and they don’t force things on you — they let you freely and fully develop your character. At the same time they give advice like “this will look better if you do it this way” and we match the director’s image on set. It’s a long shoot, and I’m really grateful for such a supportive environment.

>A burning “ego” for the project
>In line with the show’s theme of “ego,” what are the goals or dreams you want to accomplish through this work — in other words, what’s your passionate “ego” for the show?
Narahara: I want to be the one who grows the most of anyone on set. Surrounded by many experienced cast members, I don’t want to give up because I lack experience. Precisely because I’m inexperienced, I want to expect growth from myself. When we wrap, I want people to look at me and say, “He’s changed. He’s grown.”
(12/?)
>>
>>23961530
Kunigami: Omega Horn highlights “kaiju” (monster) characters among Toei tokusatsu, and I talked with suit actor Iguchi-san about this. I strongly want Enkaku to make such an impact that people say “When you think of Toei tokusatsu monsters, you think of Enkaku!” not only this year but in years to come. I want the character to leave a lasting influence.

Itose: My personal goal is to stop comparing myself with others. There will be moments when you inevitably compare, but rather than trying to be someone else, because we’re doing something new I want the strength to return to myself. Also, since this is my first time doing action, by the end of filming I want to be able to move sharply and nimbly. Tokusatsu acting has its own techniques — distinctive reactions and demonstrative performance — that differ from regular drama, and I want to be able to use those skills on other sets afterward.

>As the broadcast start approaches, what do you want viewers to pay attention to?
Itose: Episode 1 introduces and highlights each character and clearly conveys the world of Omega Horn.

Giriko is in battle from the start, so watch for that. You’ll also see the moment she first takes an interest in Captain Omega Horn. The story kept surprising me when I read the script; you won’t guess the next development. Whether Giriko is an enemy or ally will become clearer as episodes go by, so please enjoy that unfolding.

Kunigami: The powerful Kakuzyu fights from episode 1 are a highlight. Beyond that, there are increasingly interesting developments ahead and the story becomes truly unpredictable. It’s a buddy tale, so watch how Shout and Enkaku’s relationship changes. If you imagine “how will they change from episode 1 to the finale?” it’ll be even more fun.

Narahara: Episode 1 moves the story forward significantly when Shout and Enkaku meet. You’ll see the relationship between the two, and as they meet other characters the dynamic becomes clearer — you can tell from episode 1 that these two are going to become a hot buddy team. Please watch for the dramatic heat of their unfolding relationship.
There are many new developments to come in this work, so please look forward to how Shout changes through the series and how the show itself evolves.

>Gavan wasn’t cut short
>Super Space Sheriff Gavan Infinity, the first work of PROJECT R.E.D., finished its half-year broadcast with the final episode on July 19. Many fans expected it to run a full year like a Sentai series, so they were quite surprised. So was it “cut short” or not?

Shirakura: It had nothing to do with being cut for ratings. That format was decided from the start. A normal Super Sentai series runs for a full year, but with PROJECT R.E.D. we intentionally accelerate the broadcast cycle to every half-year so we can test new ideas and increase the number of IPs.

In Japan, Zyuohger flopped merch-wise as badly as Ninninger in spite of the anniversary marketing (and had lower tv ratings too, while Ninninger's were on par with Kyoryuger's and Toqger's).

That said, they were never getting Zyuohger's cast back anyway. That has been known for years.
>>
>>23961533
>Does that relate to the goal of pausing production of Sentai series?

Shirakura: For Sentai series, each show’s world is largely separate, so you must create a new cast every year. The consequence is that each character lacks depth, and toy lines from previous shows stop being sold. PROJECT R.E.D.’s goal is to bring characters from different works together into a single "universe." Like Marvel’s Avengers—Iron Man and Captain America each have their own histories, but it’s fun to have them cooperate and cross over in one shared universe.

To build that kind of universe, we need to accumulate more works. This isn’t just judged by whether Gavan succeeds or what OmegaHorn will be like; the real value will become apparent after two or three years.

Gavan had the heavy burden of being the "graduation from the Sentai era", and it did that very well. As a successor to the Sentai series, it preserved the original flavor while stepping forward one step. At the same time, to avoid shocking long time Sentai fans, we had to be careful not to step too far—only one step. It’s a difficult balancing act. The next title, OmegaHorn, has to step forward three steps, and the third work will step forward five steps.

>What does “surpassing the Super Sentai series” mean today?

I think Super Sentai is an excellent brand and has long shown what heroes are. But now we can’t just go back to it easily, because otherwise the spirit of delivering new heroes to the modern world will fade.

The OmegaHorn team, building something new from scratch, is genuinely troubled and struggling. When I read the scripts I wanted to ask, "Are you serious? Have you thought about what comes next?" But I chose not to say anything. Veterans like us tend to want to prepare lifelines or hiding places. Thoughts like “prepare a safe storytelling plan” pop up and keep us from having the courage to take risks and head into new territory.
(15/?)
>>
>>23961536
Even if we fail, at least it’s not a year-long series that must keep airing. Whether it succeeds or fails, the challenge will become experience and an important lesson for the next step.

But for OmegaHorn, I’d like to say: please watch at least until the second half. Once the second half starts, what the show intends to convey will become clearer—to both viewers and people in the industry.

Additional details:
>Project R.E.D. will present heroes in different forms, aiming for a Marvel-like universe where heroes come from various origins and can gather together. Sentai’s constraint was that each series was reset and didn’t seriously connect, making unified, meaningful crossovers difficult.
>The goal is a shared universe where characters from each series can team up; this requires many works first. Success won’t be judged solely by Gavan Infinity’s performance or OmegaHorn’s direction—the true value will be seen in 2–3 years.
>Gavan Infinity was kept somewhat similar to Sentai because drastic change would alienate fans. It only took a one-step change. OmegaHorn will change more—three steps—and the third work will change five steps (differences will grow progressively).
>OmegaHorn will emphasize battles alongside monsters and stories that don’t clearly separate good and evil.

Really, part of Sentai's problem was really the opposite. The shows being similar to each other but unrelated if anything was hurting the older shows. You can plainly see merch for older shows in Sentai never had as much traction as Rider's.

But I guess Shirakura is framing the newer shows as being the problem specifically because it means he's not shitting on veterans who might be older than him and they were the ones tied to the sales decrease anyway.

They weren't though, specially after Zenkaiger.
The only time they felt homogenized was from Goggle-V to Fiveman due to being 8 shows in a row by the same writer, and Ninninger to Ryusoulger because most of them had the issue where the motw were utterly boring.

>They weren't though, specially after Zenkaiger.
This is something Shirakura talked about in another interviews. Fans can say this Sentai or that Sentai are unique and special, but they blurred together to most of the general audience.
>>
>>23961613
That's true of fucking everything when it comes to "general audiences", retard
>>
>>23961613
>but they blurred together to most of the general audience.
Do they really? Before the whole Ninninger fiasco they sold well for the most part and did really damn well in ratings, there's even Dekaranger earning an award.
Like I said the sentiment that "they feel the same" came after Ninninger because of how the motw wasted their unique premises, aside from maybe Zyuohger all of them suffered from what Gavan Infinity did where it felt as if you could put the enemies of the week in any toku and wouldn't feel out place because of how bland they are, despite having weird and unique themes.
>>
Ah so they’re pulling a halo 5 with Reiji, he’s gone AWOL and GFPD wants him back
>>
Man got my omegahorn set today and as usual my luck with marbel stuff SUCKS. It's all on the back of my egorgear lmao. Wish this wasnt basically all RNG, I fear for my zetsu enkaku egorgear.

Also the sounds still feel extremely lacking even listening to them in person. I hope kienkaku has some good sounds built in, and I especially hope the next show does better with the jingles and what not. At least the monsters themselves look great, so I just skip all of the side egorgears and only get the big DX stuff, except the encyclopedia, hoping they release an even better one as a memorial edition.
>>
>>23961672
who is cortana?
>>
It also sucks how inaccurate the sounds are to the show, like the humming doesnt even have the words being said at the same time like the first ep did it. They really half assed this thing.
>>
>>23961675
The A grade Egorgears are really bad and yet are surprisingly flying off the shelf compared to normal emogears who have more sounds.
>>
>>23961678
As a villain? Probably Tesshin or another Azazoth follower. I wouldn’t be surprised if Tesshin is hiding in the omegahorn universe
>>
>>23961704
I guess having neat monster designs attached is helping there possibly. Some of the roars are neat but no attack sound or jingle with it is so lame
>>
>>23961716
It’s definitely carried by the kaiju artwork that definitely appeals more to the Japanese sensibility
>>
>>23959225
Man the actor really carried this design with his distinct features.
>>
>>23959233
>>23959238
I think ~26 episodes is plenty of time to tell a decent Toku story.
>>
>>23961816
Decent, but not really good. Ultraman has proved that time and time again.
>>
>>23961839
Ultraman's issue is that they always meandered in the middle due to the way they work with Bandai and the same producer limiting them.
Project R.E.D doesn't have those constraints so it can work like normal 2-cour Anime as long as they plan the show well. The issue is that doesn't suddenly mean cases where they don't plan it well won't happen, I mean look at how Gavan Infinity turned out. Then there's the issue of whether it's worth to spend too much money on a half-year project if they aren't taking any breaks.
>>
>[spiritual successor of the 50 year old franchise that does jack shit with the plot until the christmas and newyears episodes pick up the pace] could use more episodes
Really now?
>>
>>23961862
Well if Omegahorn is any indication, they plan on using the structure of RED to get more mileage out of their existing toy structure by letting one set of manufacturing ideas be used on two separate shows, so they get that first cour bump twice. Also so if they have a toy idea that was good but straddled to an unpopular show they can get a second shot to try it on a different series.
Yeah it is kind of a cynical businessy method of cutting costs but it does seem like it might be worth trying.
>>
Don't respond to bait
>>
yeah god forbid anyone had a discussion on 4chan
>>
>>23961876
I mean like I said earlier luckily it seems Omegahorn will actually take advantage of the half-year length so I want to believe Gavan Infinity being the way it was is mostly due to the whole "let's use inter dimensional settings to introduce as many ideas for future entries" and it being a transitional season.
And while lack of full motw suits are disappointing I don't have a problem as long as the cases are written well, the issue with Gavan were how bland the cases felt rather than due to the episode length.
>>
>>23961870
Yes, even if most episodes are self-contained adventures, they can still be well-written and make you grow attached to the characters featured in them.

That's why nobody gave a fuck about Gavan Infinity's episodes and characters.

There been talks like this in the Japanese fandom about why Sentai ended.
Most aren't that different from discussions here like about the toy sales and how the toy design getting worse year by year.
But this tweet talked about the timeslot change during early Build and middle of Kyuranger, in which the Sentai aired after Rider and still applied till today.
In the previous schedule that started with Megaranger and Kabutack in which Rider replaced Metal Hero since 2000, even if the show that the kids wants to watch is Rider, by getting up early the kids can watch Sentai first and sometimes became interested with it.
But now because the order changed, the show that got some boost before Rider airing is Precure, while some kids might leave after the Rider episode finished.

tl;dr, they should've keep the "Sentai as appetizer, Rider as main course" of airing order.
>>
>>23963630
Honestly having the timeslots kept as Precure/Sentai/Rider probably would've kept continued wider interest.

There’s definitely some Plex veteran Oji-san that probably heavily disagreed with onitaijin and kingohger and feels very smug about the kingohger outcome and probably shamed the younger designers to go back to basics with boonboom and beyond.

Outside the more concise lore, the pre-established enemy group and the continuation of Gavan Infinity's cliffhanger, Omegahorn doesn't seem to be all that different from its predecesor.

Like, it's a step up, but I don't know how good a show where the main meat of the episodes seems to still consist of the cast fighting a human crook of the week with low budget props can really be, especially if the cast is only getting 25 episodes in the spotlight before getting phased out.

Yeah, this has that "They're trying out a lot of things all at once" vibes that I got from Gavan Infinity although the background lore is what makes me hopeful that Omegahorn would have a proper resolution of its plot and not do an easy "Aza Zorth was that intervening deity but what actually happened is that Kakujuus were split into two and got sealed up into Egolgears because Reiji stepped in an attempt to prevent that but only succeeded halfway, which also caused his memories be sealed into an Egolgear (which will be conveniently found in the last episode)"

I personally never had an issue with the villains of the week not being kaijins since I understood it was budget issue, the issue I had was with how the were written. Aside from the episodes written by Yamaguchi the show hardly took any advantage of the interdimensional cop setting, making the plots of the week feel really bland, it's the same issue I had with the Ganglers from LuPat. Doesn't help the expectations they created by having a random NPC I episode1 look like an actual alien and show him as the example for the press conference, all while saying the cases will feel like Seibu Keisatsu era cop drama in interviews which was a straight up lie and Fukuzawa's direction being bland aside from the action.

By comparison Omegahorn actually has proper world-building, the setting feels pretty unique, has good visual direction and the enemies actually take advantage of the setting. Mind you I don't think Omegahorn is anything amazing by any means since the enemies are still simple and I'm not that into Pokémon, but imo it's a massive improvement since it actually feels like they're trying to make a proper show rather than Gavan Infinity which just felt as if they were crossing checkmarks. I think 25 episodes is enough to give a proper story as long as they maintain the serialized-ish pacing these 2 episodes had but with Kuji around and Tomioka getting hired in other projects fear still looms.

I saw a theory that it's actually not Reiji's ship but Raiya's and we'll se the explanation of it in the V-Cinema. The theory is based on the pins of the Emorgear that Shout sold out being that of Keeg's rather than Gekido's, so actually Reihi's arrival into this dimension might be recent and that's why he joined Ibar just now.
But also it could just be they took a random Emorgear to rust out without thinking about much.

To be honest it's somewhat of a good thing. Sentai will come back eventually so when they come back it would feel refreshing to see henshin heroes.

Although that still sounds idealistic. Feels like tokusatsu production, especially the suits are gonna go crashing soon.
>>
>>23966921
Tokusatsu IS henshin heroes. Without it it's just a generic drama.
>>
>>23966928
The purpose of Project R.E.D. is to revitalize the genre with new and fresh ideas. Depending on how things go between now and 2035, it'll certainly affect Super Sentai in some degree.

Shirakura is delusional if he thinks this live action anime shit will work, let alone impress anyone overseas who's not really into obscure weeb shit. It reminds me of how all the JRPG companies tried to change up their games to try to lure western normie gamers who only play a handful of western franchises and all they did was tank sales all around and only finally seem to be realizing it's not gonna work after over a decade of that nonsense

Arakawa was the guy that made the term Space Police mean something. In Super Sentai it describes both the Dekaranger and Signalman. Sharivan episode 27 when we first it as Planet Bird is the HQ of the Space Police. When other terms we heard before for Space Sheriffs was Galactic Federal Police or Galaxy Patrol. He would 've written the Gavans as multiversal Space Police.
>>
>>23967031
While you're right the issue with Gavan Infinity isn't really the writer, Tomioka has done several good shows before and he's extremely on demand
While I do think Arakawa would have done a better job the issue with Gavan Infinity more so lies on the writer team being forced to be bland with a busy setting all while having a distinct lack of budget

Honestly all the Universe Senshi in the show were great
There are the LuPat and Gaoranger two-parters by Taguchi, the Battle Fever two-parter by Hasegawa, hell even the ones by Akiko like Don Momotaro, Red Racer, Deka Red, Oto's focus episode and Blue Buster

The reason why focusing on the Universe Senshi would be a net positive is because Akiko sucks at writing motw, the most memorable No Ones past Q1 are the ones written by other people since they actually understand toku unlike her
>>
>>23967056
I wonder if they thought it would've been too close to Gokaiger? Though if it was closer to Gokaiger it would've just been a better show.
>>
>>23967056
The No ones could’ve been remedied by inhabiting the universe red senshi instead of a civilian allowing them to fight the gozyuger and it easily makes sense. Instead of having the universe senshi in competition for the rings as a third party it would be because the No one possessing them is trying to get the rings for the bridan/June competition
I’d like it if the No one kaijin couldn’t exist
On real earth without piloting/possessing a red senshi for a physical cause only allowing them to grow large and be defeated after charging up inside the possessed senshi.
>>
>>23967056
>>23967079
They won't make the previous Reds as the "motw" because beating them up would look wrong.
Doing "Another Sentai" as motw might be too soon after Donbrothers' Hitotsuki.

I know there are few exceptions like Red Racer, Shinken Red and Battle Japan but those happened because of plot reason (Red Racer to introduce berserk Senshi, Shinken Red for Fire Candle focus) and extra Stacaesar suit parts exist.
>>
>>23967102
>introduce berserk Senshi
And the closest thing of that being followed-up would be Fire Candle's Shinken Red but it's more like OrcaBooster's fault then.

Excerpt from an interview with Shinichiro Shirakura about the future of Super Sentai and the concept of PROJECT R.E.D.

>>The ending of No.1 Sentai Gozyuger marks the close of the annual-run Super Sentai TV series. Why was this decision necessary now? For Super Sentai, is it more appropriate to view this as an "ending", a "hiatus", or a "period for rebirth in a new form"? And what are the key conditions that would allow it to return as a new work in the future?

Shirakura: The Super Sentai business has a distinctive characteristic: it’s "strong only for the current installment". This differs from Kamen Rider, where past works or legacy characters can retain popularity for a long time. Because Super Sentai must end each year under a year-to-year business model, we can't plan medium- to long-term development spanning multiple years. That begins to impose limits on growth as a brand.
Once we accumulate knowledge through trial and error in PROJECT R.E.D. and find a path to overcome those limitations, the environment will be ready for Super Sentai to be reborn. However, it will likely appear in a form different from the traditional Super Sentai. In that sense, you can say the present is a period for preparing the rebirth of Super Sentai in a new form.

>>What kinds of challenges or presentation formats was PROJECT R.E.D. created to tackle—things that the old production systems for Super Sentai or Kamen Rider had difficulty doing?

Shirakura: First is creating a more diverse hero IP portfolio. Toei has deep expertise in producing hero shows, but in reality we only produce two main series—Super Sentai and Kamen Rider. There is still a lot of potential and possibility in hero properties, and we'll go search for those.
Next is breaking the old production system Toei has used for decades—the "resetting the world and characters every year" model. We want to realize a new kind of hero universe that is different from the MCU.

>>What kind of results or audience response does PROJECT R.E.D. need to receive before you can judge the project is on the right track, and what are the conditions that would indicate a revived Super Sentai in a new form is ready?

Shirakura: At the very least, the minimum conditions are that we ourselves truly feel, "We can now create a new kind of hero work that has never existed before" and "We have built a production system capable of delivering new visuals that can't be found anywhere else in the world".

>About the Brazilian Juspion film that's currently in development
>At the start of the project he traveled to Brazil personally to meet directly with the Sato Company team. He's now monitoring progress as an informal advisor, but if the project makes a major advance he intends to go to Brazil again.

>Shirakura also said it would be fun if the Brazilian Jaspion could be linked with PROJECT R.E.D., joking, "Even if Jaspion isn’t red, though".

>He mentioned the possibility of creators from Japan and Brazil collaborating, saying that if they can bring together top talent from both countries to make a work that shocks the world, there would be nothing more gratifying.

It's a shame that they don't simply use Bouken Blue being outside of the country as a plot point since he's a secret agent to actually do the movie, but I guess they want him to properly interact with Kaze no Shizuka.
Otherwise
>Gekiranger
Pretty likely given Tsukada's position and how close the cast is.
>Go-Busters
Everyone seems willing and the commander isn't relevant enough to be inconvenient to write around. But even still really unlikely since both Bandai and Toei look back poorly upon Go-Busters and Cheeda Nick's VA's death.
>Kyuranger and LuPat
The casts don't seem to be that hard to get but without any of its producers being in tokusatsu division anymore, their reputation being weird where they were only popular with subsets of the fandom during their airing but seemingly reevaluated overtime(?) given some things like how LuPat affected Christmas and their poor sales they seem kinda unlikely. So far Kakuranger is the only one to get a project despite the lack of the original staff and even then it was only TTFC.
>Kiramager
They could do it as long as they handle KirameiGreen like they did with AbareYellow but the show is too recent.
>Zenkaiger, Donbrothers and King-Ohger
So far they all seem like they'll be easy to do for the foreseeable future, but they're too recent.

If Project R.E.D., a "totally different" Toku franchise, doesn't end up being more successful than the last few years of Sentai, then that will prove that the latter's failure was the fault of the incompetent people currently handling them and not something inherent to the Sentai franchise/IP itself. Which would mean they didn't actually need to cancel Sentai and replace it with something else, they just had to retire the out of touch people in control who can't make a successful Toku show even if their lives depended on it.

Bandai may just lack confidence in Sentai's toys, kinda like with digimon. They only really do fomo vpets these days because they're confident in that selling. They don't wanna put effort into something that they think won't sell but like.. the lack of effort is what will cause bad sales

>Objectively Gavan Infinity and Omegahorn are different than Sentai.
Yeah yeah, they're *objectively* different because there's some *superficial differences* like not a having a standard team of heroes and the villains of the week being humans instead of rubber suit monsters, but in terms of tone, format, aesthetics, toyline and the like they're not actually that different, because it's the exact same fucking people making these shows at the end of the day.
>>
Remember all the rad concept arts for Gavan Infinity? Who picked the lame ass final design for him? Bandai or Kuji?
>>
>>23967801
>like not a having a standard team of heroes and the villains of the week being humans instead of rubber suit monsters
These are a lot more than superficial
>but in terms of tone, format
Tonally they're closer to Rider seasons, and format-wise they're distinctly very different. There's more of a focus on the human segments, with more untransformed action (particularly from Reiji). Omegahorn's already being pretty experimental with its action even more than GavaIn was.
>aesthetics, toyline
Outside of the Laser Blade remolds the designs are in fact pretty original.

You're just kind of relying on bad faith interpretations at this point.
>>
>>23967816
Nah he's 100% correct
>>
>>23967816
>These are a lot more than superficial
The Red is the main focus like usual but the other heroes he constantly teams up with still get a bunch of focus episodes. The villains act just like monsters but without suits (and not even always).
>Tonally they're closer to Rider seasons
No.
>and format-wise they're distinctly very different.
Not really, it's the same shit as Sentai, a light mostly episodic show that happens to have a running plot too.
>more untransformed action
Another extremely superficial difference.
>Outside of the Laser Blade remolds the designs are in fact pretty original.
The locations are the same, the way of directing the episodes is mostly the same, the Emorgears are some goofy ass shit you could find in any modern Sentai, there's various multicolored heroes and the main protag is still the Red, and there's also regular giant battles involving mechas/monsters that gattai with each other.

>You're just kind of relying on bad faith interpretations at this point
You're just playing up the minor differences these shows have that honestly no one cares about to make them seem less derivative than they really are.
>>
>>23967850
>The locations are the same
Stopped reading there

By this point it's just bad faith anon
>>
>>23967853
Not him, but thanks for the concession little bitch
>>

>Not him
Then your post doesn't matter, faggot
>>
I've now seen Sentai up to Timeranger. Going to stop going in order for the post-2000 stuff and just go with whatever looks cool, probably starting with Shinkenger and then King-Ohger. Who knows after that.

I've also seen Gokaiger and Gozyuger already.
>>
>>23967790
It's sad that Digimon is moving away from the toyetic part of it which made them popular in the first place.
I just knew Wargreymon having that wings is because of the kibble of Agumon's giant head in the toy version.

What are your thoughts on Liveman, GoGoV, and Timeranger, if you don't mind me asking
>>
Catching up on Gavan, episode 17 was an emotional fucking whiplash jesus fuck. I was really enjoying the silly main plot, got a good laugh out of the giant meteor in a cardboard box speeding towards Earth. Then outta nowhere BOOM get slapped in the face with a gut wrenching "My Grandma has fucking Alzheimers" ending.
>>
>>23967876
See you gotta feel bad for him now instead of thinking he was a vestigial fuckhead getting in the way of Kiki and Koto's growth.
>>
>>23967865
They're all pretty decent. Don't have much to say about them. My favorite Heisei Sentai is still to be determined but my favorite Showa is probably Maskman
>>
>>23967853
I accept your concession, faggot.
>>
>>23967876
What's insane is that only ever gets very breifly brought up again and it just doesnt matter beyond that scene making you feel bad. It felt like they had planned something more for it all but had to rush past it.

>This differs from Kamen Rider, where past works or legacy characters can retain popularity for a long time. Because Super Sentai must end each year under a year-to-year business model, we can't plan medium- to long-term development spanning multiple years
Bullshit

They just want crossover characters to feel more organic.

Sentai was beyond saving even back then.

Not really
>>
>>23970195
Yes really. While the Hasbro takeover of Power Rangers exposed how stagnant Sentai really was in Japan, the problems started with Ninninger. The decade of financial failure started from that point.

His five year plan is what got them to Gozyu in the first place. Netabare-san was calling out that if Ryusoulger failed Super Sentai was likely going to be cancelled.
