Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?

I really liked this guy from the stardust but his entire torso is just one big chunk. I've never torn a kit apart before to add articulation but this seems like a good place to start. Would a rotary tool be better or one of those tiny tamiya saw blades for hobby knives?

Came to the local hobby store just to meet Bandai's magnum opus. A true masterpiece.
>>

>Make a series about infinite possibilities
>Some designs are really well received

Bandai has really good business sense!
>>
>>23979303
The torso is literally Zaku 2. You can just dispose a revive Zaku 2 or the classic one.
>>
>>23979281
What do you mean, 'you people'?
>>
>>23979307
Close but it’s a Zaku II F2 torso
>>
REEE
I regret not entering with my planned build because I didn't want to buy like 3+ kits to make the Black Lusty soldier
>>
>>23979307
I considered that, but I would still need to cut the model up before I can transplant a different torso into the crotch.
>>
>>23979286
stop the count!
>>
>23979050
That's what I was thinking. I would probably just make a stencil for that and paint it on.
Pic is what it's supposed to look like. I've taken a lot of creative liberties already so far as colors but as you can see it doesn't have the emblems on the crotch and shield.
>>
>>23979322
It's only polystyrene, anon. You can glue and putty and Bondo it together quite easily again. The part you're about to cut up being replaceable also helps, you can botch an attempt without ruining a hard to find kit.
>>
I really hope the floodgates open for more peak SDs... G Gen Eternal revealed the Sandaime Gundam Daishogun (which is permanent for those who want to learn more about him), so now I wish to see an updated version of the 1990 kit in the SD Gundam Cross Silhouette line (which inherited the soul of LEGEND BB and its contemporary main series releases).

I know that most common nippers was used is single edge but what about double edged nipper? What are the pros and cons?
>>
>>23979350
>Pros
Double edge are supposed to be more resilient.
>cons
They pinch and do a far worse job than the slicing that single edge do so your plastic is guaranteed deformed - you will have to put in more effort to clean up the nub.
>>
>>23979350
pros
its slightly cheaper than a godhand
cons
its not a god hand so you're just throwing money away when you get rid of it and buy a godhand

Redpill me on reciprocating sanders and rotary tools

Anon, these are model kits. What recip sander are you looking at for model kits??
>>
>>23979362
So I don't have to spend hours of my life rub rub rubbing rubbing rubbing rubbing rub rub rubbing rub rubbing my gunpla and the super glue and the putty so its nice and shit.

Reciprocating sanders are pointless in this hobby. Learn how to cut nubs properly and get a glass file

I don't even know how to use sandPAPER. it always scratch the plastic surface, leaving ugly white marks everywhere. why would you use paper over sponge?

Sometimes I think Bandai makes shit like this just to show their licensed resellers whose boss. Do you think there's an obligatory minimum purchase or the gunpla supply lines get cut? I hope so!
>>
>>23979407
In this case, bandai are just incompetent retards. They're trying and hoping to create the next big trend.
>>
>>23979407
Idk how it is in Japan but official Bandai resellers in the US havent been forced to buy a single box of these
>>
>>23979349
Cross Silhouette was bad. It was SD made for people who don't actually like SD, much like MGSD is now. I don't want it back, I want BB back.
>>
>>23979407
That's pretty much how stores ended up with pallets of amaim. Bandai was forcing them to order 1 for every 4-5 gunpla.

Link is an example, any that size or smaller is good for flats, but I suggest a rotary tool with a sanding sponge for curved pieces. Specially good with polishing compounds if you like extra shiny effect parts.

Protip: use plaplate sized to your liking + double tape if you want to do smaller work areas.

I more or less managed to finish Akaitsuki's mascot, since I am not sure if I got the right pose, so please tell me if I got the wrong one so I make the other pose later. If I have the time, I will enchance this current mascot I made

As for Nyuren's potraits, I am still working on it, please give me sometime

I have yet to open my request for this round, should open the request as soon as possible, or wait until the result got announced first?

D Gundam Third is the closet you will ever get to official Gaia Gear kits.
>>
>>23979580
I figured since the rights to GG were not owned by Bandai, a company like Good Smile could make a GGA kit, but there must be something else going on that prevents GG merchandise from happening.
>>
>>23979628
do we know who owns it? Tomino?
>>
>>23979628
No one technically owns the rights to Gaia Gear, its fan fiction written by Tomino thinking since he was the "father" of gundam he could do whatever he wanted with it even though he didnt own it. BUT Gaia Gear is technically about the Gundam Universe meaning that is Bandais domain. So even though Bandai doesnt want to acknowledge it, a different company trying to make kits would just be picking a fight with Bandai.
>>
>>23979645
Slight correction, Tomino does "own" Gaia Gear but cant do anything with it.

If a psycho gundam actually survived or was rebuilt during the unicorn era, would it be a feddy asset, or a sleeves asset?
>>
>>23979689
Wasn't there a Zeon remnants? It would be their asset because the Psycho Gundam is horribly obsolete by then.
>>
>>23979610
I'm happy with it, thank you for your hard work. I enjoyed every mascot you did, keep up the good work.
>>
>>23979689
Realistically the Sleeves don't have the manufacturing and power base to actually build one
The animation shoehorns in the Neo Zeong at the end but it's a complete asspull for a faction that was on a fairly shoestring budget of terrorism, the original novel and all setting details paint a very detailed picture of a group completely lacking in industrial power
Feds would be the most likely to as a result
A Quin Mantha shows up during F90 as I recall, as a relevant aside
Mars would be the most likely place for a Psyco Gundam to show up again I think, between Titans and Neo Zeon engineers being present who both could have worked on the Psyco Mark II. And I'm pretty sure at least a gigantic arms unit if not more Psyco parts ended up out there.
>>
>>23979693
To be fair the feds also had old shit in torrington, they even deployed a byarlant.
>Psycho gundam
Titans, but some titan suits went sleeves
>Psycho gundam mk2
Glemy Neo Zeon
Most of their shit also went sleeves
Would be cool for feds to somehow field museum class newtype weaponry piloted by a nameless ace.

>thinner would melt and fuck up plastic
>use it with paint to spray
>nothing happens to the plastic place despite it having thinner in it
How does this work? Also:
water based acyrlics
>takes longer to dry than lacquers
>despite this, there's a chance to clog the airbrush more than lacquers
>lacquers dry faster than acrylics yet the airbrush will never clog no matter what when using lacquers
What's the science behind all of this?
>>
>>23979701
The harsher the solvent the less likely to clog it is. Water is not an aggressive solvent and also evaporates slowly.

I forgot how cool dinosaurs are.
Question: What’s the best way to cement painted parts on a car or motorcycle model? Been trying other types of model kits and it’s been a blast learning everything
>>
>>23979693
It's not really obsolete. Maybe the Psyco 1 but not really. Tech advancement isn't as brutal as you seem to think. It might be overly large and expensive and 100% isn't running state of the art technology at a certain point, but it's still an utterly monstrous psycommu machine covered in high output beam cannons with minovsky craft and an I-Field. Obsolete? Not so much. Feddies are fielding Jegans for 30 years and while they're mostly getting crunched by new MS they can still get some kills. Heavyguns and Javelins by V of course.

The Psyco II would mulch all those, no question, it's not some paper tiger just because it was made years ago. It was made years ago by the Federation at the absolute peak of their power in their most advanced development projects. F90 itself makes a whole point of how even older MS can still be a threat.

Just cus it's old doesn't mean it is ineffective, it's a fucking monster. What do you think something's gonna do to it? Better have an I-Field to even fight it quite frankly, nevermind it being guaranteed to have a Newtype in the cockpit. All the speed in the world of faster MS don't help you too much when it has the ability to fill the space 360* around it with mega particles. Absolutely not obsolete - prohibitively expensive yeah, built with older tech sure, but not obsolete.
>>
How often do you guys replace your airbrush o-rings? They're cheap as fuck but its annoying wrangling such a tiny thing. I'm using an airbrush cleaner sold by my hobby store, so either that's too harsh, or the o-rings I'm using are too shitty.
>>
>>23979701
Lacquer paint does actually melt the top layer of the plastic, which is how the pigment sticks. It's all about exposure time. The lacquer solvents are dry in a few minutes, vs leaving a part in a pool of thinner for an hour.
>>
>>23979709
I'm now imagining an alternate timeline where the feds and zeek invest in psycho fortress technology and actually man the damn things instead of putting one guy inside it. Just have something like a mass produced Geminus deploying conventional suits while also providing support with its newtype weaponry.
Like, why not? Just put an I field on a battleship and add some incoms. It can't be that bad. You probably dont need a new type if you have a bunch of crew control incoms.

It's from SEED, but I actually always loved the Pergrande for that. It's three normal dudes working together to control DRAGOONs when that's supposed to require SEED's not-Newtypes.

Crewed/multi-seater crafts are just cool, I'd love for Gundam to embrace a little more of them. Always thought the OG Stark Jegan was cool for being a two-seater. Gundam definitely doesn't appreciate the mental load of a single person doing everything, having someone just monitoring systems and running comms in an MS would be perfectly fitting.
