A question that came to mind. Let's say that previous Digimon series were actually more like Frontier in its treatment of protagonist Digimon, as in the humans BECOME the Digimon. Nothing else is changed about these series, just the "talking to a separate partner entity" aspect is removed. But all the character arcs are the same, except the kids are now actively participating in the fights when the Digimon partners would normally jump in. While you would lose the Digimon friendship/partnership aspect of the story (though I think it's fair to say that more often than not, Digimon partners are represented as sounding boards/reflections of their human partners rather than fully fleshed out characters), would that make something like Adventure bad or unwatchable in your eyes? Keep in mind they would have to replace beats and themes about partners with more appropriate themes, but all the same plot points and dialogue happen, just with everything slightly altered.
