-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.

== STOLEN GROUPBUILD ==

Build a Mecha or vehicle built by one faction, but change its aesthetics and style to its rival faction! Examples include but are not limited to
>Canon examples of mechs being stolen and used by another group (ie: Casval's Gundam, Feddie Zakus, Ashura Mazinger, etc)
>Designs intended for one faction that were repurposed into a design for another faction (ie: Gerbera Tetra)
>What-if scenarios (ie: A Titans color Zeta Gundam)
>Stylistic interpretation (ie: What would a EFF version of the Z'gok look like?)
When it comes to your build, really make it clear that your mecha is being used by the other side!

tfw you wanna change up the poses in your girlpla shelf to give them more cool and dynamic poses so you strip them of their equipment first to get the articulation right. But then you see the curves and the instinctual monkey lizard part of your brain takes over.

God dammit me, you were supposed to make them look like they're in the middle of a John Woo Close Quarters Gunfight.

What Bandai falls behind in terms of articulation, I always thought that they had better thigh-ass sculpting compared to Kotobukiya. Gaps aren't as blatant too.
>>
>>24012602
>Kotobukiya has better joints than Bandai

Have they stopped being rickety hollow shit or something? The last female figure I got from them was a Fag and it sucked. In fact I'd say all the kits I got from them are.

Hard thin plastic. No subframe. Meh tolerances.

Why Bandai doesn't just make RG Mighty Strike Freedom kit instead of pricey MGEX kit?
>>
>>24012602
Bandai will never go sexier than that because they have to appeal to the western and global audiences too! same reason why recent 30MS girls wear spats

I went looking at Jegan variants last night. I did not realize there was not one, but 3 F91 variants. It didn't look like they have been reprinted since before 2020 on P Bandai though sadly.
I also didn't realize that the General Revil Jegans had the updated Jegan shield from that already. I'm a bit surprised as I would think a shield upgrade would have happened later.

What do you get when you mix a Zogok with Federation design sensibilities, Patlabor and (failed) Robocop 2?
Still needs hands (the Zogok has those) but the hammer parts I used for the forearms have no ports for hands yet. Kits used are mostly Zogok with Gustav Karl bits and a sprinkle of whatever I had that that fit the look.
>>
Was Advance of Zeta ahead of it's time?

Finally bought an airbrush and decided to settle with acrylic because I don't want to deal with mask and ventilation.
How long for acrylic primer to fully cure and harden? is it really much weaker compared to lacquer? i left a part primed for 24 hours and the paint scratched after i attempted to assemble and dissamble for test fit.
>>
Is the Pale Rider good, or worth it because P-Bandai
There's a space type..
>>
>>24012654
Fuck you for mutilating a beautiful Zeon MS
>>
>>24012660
Primer is just easier to scratch than paint in general. The primer is there for tougher paint layers to stick to.
You should still ventilate your work area. Point a fan out a window. You're gonna cover your house in sticky acrylic dust.
>>
>>24012527
Pictures like these always make me want to do a melee-focused custom build with huge sword knees.

>>24012616
Don't worry, it'll be a P-Bandai exclusive that just adapts the HGCE parts. And it'll be an entire kit on its own rather than an expansion pack so you'll need to buy the entire RG Strike Freedom all over again even if you already owned one.
>>
>>24012660
Yes acrylic really is that weak. You have to be very gentle with it. Once it's fully painted and varnished it's more resistant, but you should be extremely careful with chemical products. Stuff like mark setter/softer can instantly annihilate all water-based acrylic paint, no matter the amount of layers. Always test something on a hidden spot before using it for real.
>>
>>24012672

>>

>>
>>24012688
NTA but acrylics make sense for staring out.
requires much less of an initial money and space investment since you're not dealing with harsh chemicals and you can use the same paints for airbrushing and brush painting.
yeah they're harder to use and are prone to clogging but if you can airbrush acrylics you can deal with anything, it's like learning to drive on a manual.
>>
>>24012699
I'm glad gpg talked me into just going with the DCT transmission of lacquers. I get to be so lazy yet get such smooth coats...
>>
>>24012699
Decent water based acrylics are also really easy to find in person too. It's nice to be able to just go out and get a color you need instead of waiting a week for it to arrive.
>>
Got selected to participate in this Gundam Assemble campaign where they send advanced gunpla builders a Zaku mini and then you paint it and mail it back to them or some shit for them to display it at some competition or something like that I guess. I truly am the best builder in /gpg/.
>>
>>24012714

>>
>>24012699

How are they harder to use? also i just clean them with IPA and almost never clog
>>
>>24012716
Luckily I'm used to working with master grades, so fitting a mini up my big brown stinker should be no problem.
>>
>>24012717
I'm not him but water based acrylics level themselves out worse and the clearcoats are a lot harder to get good finishes with. They're also a lot more picky about thinning since water has way more surface tension than lacquer thinners.

the Jegan Type D model used heavily in Unicorn was a multipurpose model with improved modularity for multiple missions.

D types have the equipment-latch style shoulders, every D type is easily ID'd by that. Their head is also different too but those shoulders give away the D type easily. Only thing that will trip you up is the Stark Jegans also use those shoulders to mount their missile pods.
I think somewhere schizophonic has a full group picture and I'm sure some others do too but here's a lineup of what are basically the main fundamental patterns (though -D is missing).

>Skygrasper
Possibly, if they did it with the specific aim of making the Launcher/Sword components compatible with Aile Strike RM

>Gundam Mk-II, both AEUG and Titans
Unless Bandai are preparing a Ver. Ka, the Mk-II is in desperate need of an update.

>Destiny
The existing Destiny is quite old, so an upscaled RG might be worthwhile, so long as they also do the wings of light and Palma Fiocina.

>GP01 + Full Vernian
Seems like it would be a natural outgrowth due to the existence of the Solomon GP02.

>Z'Gok
The existing MG is from fucking 2003.

>Wing EW
I mean, maybe? It's a pretty old kit so a refresh might be nice? But nobody cares about anything but Wing Zero Custom.

>Astray Gold
Given that there's no MG of it, this would be nice to have I guess.

>Crossbone
The engineering would probably be stupidly iffy, but a refresh on the old Crossbone would be nice.

>Force Impulse
Another one that could use a refresher, given the age of the MG.

>Wing TV
Another one that would be nice, but again, nobody cares about anything that isn't Wing Zero Custom.

>Hi-Nu
I'm not aware of how many bootleg Hi-Nus there are at all scales, but given that nobody likes the MG Ver. Ka, a design that's closer to the 2007 redesign but with updated engineering might be nice.

>God
The thing that sucks about the existing upscale is that it's out of fucking scale. Do it right next time, Chang.

>Shining
Would be neat, but only if they tone down the greebling, those legs still bother me.

>Wing Zero TV
Technically the Proto Zero is an entirely different MS, so this would be pretty nice.

Alot of today's kits are floppy as fuck so that's not saying much. Fixxing Hazel Custom's joint is abit tricky because they are all polycaps, you need to paste tamiya white cap cement on them because for some reason regular paint doesn't work that great on polycap joints tightening but cement does. Painting Hazel is not that difficult to be honest because this kit has great part separation.
>>
>>24013154
Jegan has almost zero panel line so it is gonna look plain without Stark Jegan armor. And yes, the torso is a solid piece. If you remove the armor, it is gonna leave 2 bare pegs. The thing has spare parts to build standard Jegan head so it is not too bad.

What options do they have?

>Geymalk
I'm honestly kind of surprised it doesn't have a kit already, but given how fuckhueg it is it would probably be Psyco Gundam Mk-II tier expensive.
>Quin Mantha
Another one that's mobile armor tier that would require a decent amount of commitment from Bandai, but it's one of the Final Bosses of ZZ and Puru-affiliated, not to mention Kshatriya-adjacent.
>MP Qubeley
Seems like a decent option, especially if they can use runners from the Qubeley Revive. More stuff for Puru is always fun.
>Gaza-D
Another good candidate, especially since it also appears in Unicorn and that would give Bandai an excuse for yet another P-Bandai Unicorn kit.
>Ga-Zowmn
Same as above, it gets a bit more action in Unicorn as well.
>Capule
It's a fucking crime this doesn't have a kit already. Maybe they're scared that people will demand a Kapool afterward.
>Dwadge
The HGUC Dom is quite old, so who knows, they might have to develop new runners and then eventually do a Dom Revive, or do the Revive first and then a P-Bandai Dwadge after.
>Jamru Fin
Eh, maybe? It didn't get a lot of screen time.
>Zaku III
It has a HGUC kit already, but it's an ancient one from 2000, a revive might eventually be in order but that's probably low on Bandai's priority list.
>Bawoo
Another candidate for a Revive, so probably not for a long while.
>Agguguy
Lol.
>Desert Zaku
Maybe? Again, it sees action in Unicorn so there's high potential for P-Bandai scumming.
>Catl
I really want to see this just for shits and giggles. Yeah, it's a 30 meter tall monstrosity, but come on, it's from the Moon Moon arc, how can you say no?

It's 39.2 meters at the head, slightly less than Psyco Mk-II's 39.98 meters, but it more than makes up for it with the huge wing and back binders. It would be about 29 cm tall in 1/144 scale, which dwarfs the Zeta Gundam's 13.8 cm.

Bandai would essentially have to dedicate Destroy Gundam tier resources to develop the thing, and ship it in a PG-sized box. Even for a Zeta-era UC kit that's quite risky, they would need to be in stupidly good financial shape to even consider it. Maybe after the MGEX Mighty Strike Freedom pads their coffers to high heaven.
>>
They don't have to make it exactly to the usual scale, as in not 1/144 or 1/100. If I recall the New Zeal was some weird scale as well. Or they can make 2 versions, 1 being a smaller one for people who just want a kit of it in a reasonable size and 1 bigger ones who want consistent scale.

If I want something out of Dragonar, it will have to be revealed during Sunrise Robot Laboratory's Side-L release, which could give us either the HG D-1 Custom, the Option Parts Set Cavalier-0 and Weapon Set, or even both. I'm surprised Bandai haven't make HG Enhanced ZZ kit for P-Bandai
>>
>>24013470
That's because the existing HG ZZ is old as all hell. They would need to make a HG ZZ Revive first, and design it from the ground up to be capable of accepting Enhanced and Full Armor parts.

Or just make it the next RG, because, come the fuck on, we got Ground Gundam before it, really?
>>
>>24013439
it would be silly to ignore how many large things bandai has been willing to make pretty much since Narrative and its A-Packs or thereabouts. We've been getting a lot of large HGs for the past while especially when you consider AoZ. We just got a 13000 yen HG for Hathaway they definitely never had to do. You're acting like it'd take some miracle but it would take exactly what got the Psyco Mark II made. Hell it's been a few years now we've gotten 10k+ yen HGs each year. If we got Quin Mantha next year it'd be one of the least surprising things ever if you look at what they've been doing.

RG is the better option. If we're ever getting Full Armor, it's a P-Bandai expansion kit with Enhanced ZZ extensions (though none of the transformation locks that you have to build over the kit, they might simply include the locks in a way that's similar to the RG Unicorn's or GaoGaiGar's).

Bad news, they're reissuing Bujin Kourin SDs (basically redesigning certain older SDs including Musha Retsuden stuff into designs modeled after Samurai Warriors/Nobunaga's Ambition designs of historical warlords) in Premium Bandai. This is the end of an era.

>A lone smuggler buys time for his comrades to flee an overwhelming foe. Does he have enough rounds left to save them all?
Per Anon's recommendation in a prior thread, I picked up some diorama supplies from Hobby Lobby to make this guy a little base.
Incidentally, how do you decide when to call it quits on a project? I keep looking at this guy and finding small things I want to change. I've got a couple ideas for the groupbuild that I really like, so I wanna get started on one of those soon.

Looking very nice. I initially said that the colors were too saturated, glad to see you managed to dull them down a little bit to make the finish more natural. One adjustment I'd suggest is readding some black to the vents like the one on the knee. Since they're supposed to be blasting out hot air I don't think there'd be any snow getting piled up in them

I made the footprint on the base with a bit of plaster and texture paste. It may seem strange but I am proudest of that feature.

you changed the chest, not the waist colour
Feddies often have the two step waists, with two colours for them. Typically they're either the chest colour + main armour (white) colour, or main armour + a dark grey like joints

It bothers me that there are people who have been in this hobby for years, over a decade even, that still snapbuild without putting even the tiniest effort into posing their robot toys, let alone do additional stuff like panel line, decal, topcoat or painting.

Gunpla is freedom? More like Gunpla is low effort.
>>
>>24015396
Every hobby has people like that. /a/ has people who only watch dubbed anime, /v/ has people who only watch streamers and never play games themselves, /tg/ has people who only watch warhammer lore and D&D podcasts and have never rolled a dice in their entire lives, /m/ has snapshitters, etc

People don't understand why panel liner can crack some pieces. It's always because of micro-fractures in the plastic that develop from cutting it out of the runner, invisible to the eye. As a liquid, the liner penetrates those fractures and, depending on the liner used and the plastic it's used on, causes weakening in the piece. Tamiya is the strongest of the conventional liners, which is why it causes the most of these fractures. But even gundam pour markers can cause this weakening, which is why people recommend either panel lining on the runner before fractures are created or if you've already cut the piece out, only doing the lining over a gloss coat.

I want to make tiny epoxy pilots to go inside pic related. A common practice for painting things behind "glowing" visor glass is to paint it silver. Would the same practice apply for this specifically? I'm not sure if painting it accurately would matter much since it'd be distorted by the clear plastic anyway.

Thinking something like this for my Assemble Zaku contest piece. Round plinth for the base and then a thin piece of plasticard attached to the back half of it to create a curved backdrop that I can paint a background directly onto. I've got a pretty easy technique for making a sort of watercolor effect that I've used on a few pokepla kits, maybe use that look here to give the whole scene a painterly look.

Other idea is to paint it in a style more reminiscent of classic gunpla box art, and then just use a flat background and paint the scene on there, then frame the whole thing in a box or something like that. Really depends on which Zaku model they end up sending me I guess.

Only if you plan on doing a finish that already involves fluorescent paint that decals would clash with. For example I think putting uv decals on a unicorn with a fluorescent frame you plan to light up would take away from the finished product when lit up.

Want to start making a simple 144 diorama any advice on the size or scale?. I think the building size can be varied from 7 - 15 cm, basically just the waist or covering the entire suit. But what about the tree size? what is the most common size for 144 tree? is it 5-7 cm or maybe more like 10-12 cm?
>>
>>24016447
Just do sequoia trunks stretching past the diorama and you won't have to worry about height measurements. Unironically though just check what the usual height is of the tree you want to put in is and base it off of that. Even in the same species trees will vary a lot in size so no need to stress it that much.

Was ordering stuff and saw a bunch of miscellaneous meme tools for plamo going for cheap and figured that I might as well see what the whole thing was all about. Got both and each one went for like 3 bucks.

I am genuinely impressed and in love with the one on the left. It's an all-in-one pack for spraying and painting needs. You get 12 magnetized wire sticks that you can bend however you want. The clips come with a rubberized tip too so it doesn't damage the plastic but of course you can remove the rubber tips too if you need that wee bit more of extra wide bite. The case serves as the metallic base that you can slap the sticks to so no more need for styrofoam you regularly impale and you can pack everything neatly into the same case afterwards. I fucking love this thing and gladly would've paid twice the price for it too.

Right is one of the most useless piece of meme shit I ever had the misfortune of using. I figured that the whole sponge thing would at least help with curling of the shoddier waterslide decal (i.e. Koto stuff) but no, shit still curls up even when on top of the sponge. Even the tweezers it comes with is more worthless than some generic chink tweezer you can buy for less than a dollar. I didn't even pay much for this piece of shit and I still feel ripped off. The fucking ramen cup I use for waterslide decals works better than this fucking meme.
>>
>>24016501
>12 sticks

>>
>>24016501
I've considered getting the right one under the assumption that it does a good job separating decals and removing the hassle of fishing for it in the saucer of water I usually use, while also letting me form a queue of decals without the risk of them drifting together.
Tweezer looks like absolute balls though.
