-=READ THE GUIDES=-

Welcome to the Gunpla/Plamo General!

For those new, please read our guides. We have many resources available to help you in many different aspects of the hobby. They're here for you!

For the unclear, "plamo" is short for "plastic model". "Gunpla" is thus short for "Gundam plastic model". Many different kinds of models are built here, ranging from mecha to planes, cars, musume, you name it! If you're new, you're gonna screw up. Don't worry! If you're seasoned, don't make the newbies worry!

And don't forget to report shitposting and spam. The mods don't browse /m/ too often, so it's up to YOU to help keep our general clean and civil!

>Why won't anyone answer my question?
Be more specific, and try to provide clear images if you can.

>Why are my pictures sideways?
4chan strips EXIF data when images are uploaded, including the orientation tag if it's from your phone. To fix it save out your images separately, or use an app that will rotate and save the images for you.
One easy to use app that works well on Android:

== STOLEN GROUPBUILD ==

Build a Mecha or vehicle built by one faction, but change its aesthetics and style to its rival faction! Examples include but are not limited to
>Canon examples of mechs being stolen and used by another group (ie: Casval's Gundam, Feddie Zakus, Ashura Mazinger, etc)
>Designs intended for one faction that were repurposed into a design for another faction (ie: Gerbera Tetra)
>What-if scenarios (ie: A Titans color Zeta Gundam)
>Stylistic interpretation (ie: What would a EFF version of the Z'gok look like?)
When it comes to your build, really make it clear that your mecha is being used by the other side!

I just want to say thanks to everyone who posts here. I take a minimum of 30 days before I engage with a new hobby to see if the interest is legitimate or passing. The posts in gpg have helped steer me toward getting into gunpla at an entry level and seeing where it goes. Thanks for all the guides and posts, they are very helpful. if I build something worth sharing, I'll make a post here. cheers all.

I have very much enjoyed the SRX, Banpreios and R-Gun Rivale, I've still got the Astranagant for a rainy day as well. SRX had some issues but the others have been rock solid and good times. I imagine the Hyperlion is gonna be the same, not keen on the design so I'm skipping it but if you like it, I'd absolutely grab it.

Probably will do two coats of the gold next time I do reverse washing (I have an MG Sinanju to do at some point).
Also the wings on this guy are attached basically by gravity. Not sure if all the paint is forcing the peg back out, or if that is normal. It feels like the latter case as I can't really push them down more.
Anyway, happy to get this guy done finally. Probably going to snap the MD Buster Doll Paladin I was pointed to a few weeks ago next.

Eh, I always felt like a rough metal worked better. And yeah I'm not in the habit of seam removal as the Bandai kits I've done are better at making them look like panel lines and I didn't think ahead.
Also the joints are at least stiff even if a bit limited.

Sure but you'd have to sit through the military parade first, since that's scheduled to go all week. And you must absolutely under no circumstances tell him to thin his paints, no matter how thick it looks on any of the vehicles, because I've seen him personally stuff a general into an artillery cannon and fired it straight across the ocean. Actually, most of the news reports about North Korean missile tests are just him firing his relatives out of a cannon.
>>
>>24034380
I've never heard of a law prohibiting it. But you're better off going outside. You could rig up a bit spray booth with some way to catch the overspray. something like a very jank glove box made of cardboard, cow-ass gloves and an acrylic window attached to a regular spray booth.

A mix of clear yellow/orange/brown would be better. I tried mr color clear gold, it's not really clear
>>
>>24034497
This is probably the wrong gold paint for the job. The super metallic has a lot of fleck in it so you don't get the plated look you want. Alclad II golds are probably what you want. If you only have access to mr.color paints for some reason the normal H9 gold gives a very gold plated look.
Then just make sure you gloss coat it afterwards. It still won't look like the phenix but it'll be as close as you can get without chrome.

I believe it needs to be extremely thinned in order to be clear. 1:2 ratio if you can.
>>
>>24034522
I may have thinned it less than usual because at the time I was thinning clears too much so it came out like a regular metallic gold. It was years ago, I should try it again now that I know how to thin properly I hope
>>
>>24034541
Mr Color paint is like condensed milk. It uses thinner much more than other lines.
>>
>>24034550
Huh, so the official recommended ratio is 1:2? I have always thinned it with 1:1.5 ratio, with leveling thinner, the good ol reliable
>>
>>24034550
I always do 1:2 for mr color usually, with some exceptions like that one super metallic gold that needs 1:1 or less (they say it doesn't need thinning but it's still a bit too thick for airbrushing out of the bottle). At the time, clears were giving me trouble so I ended up thinning them less but in retrospect I think the main problem was blasting like a savage with my airbrush

some good manuals I treasure are: MG Dunbine because it comes with a bunch of extra info on Aura mechanisms that aren't explained in the show, or the Victory ver ka because of the great artwork and explanations, or the SMP Zearth because it's based on a newspaper that appears in the show.
Notable box art I've kept: Aoshima Ideon, look it up, it's fantastic, SMP Zearth because it's also based on a fictional model kit from the show.
Some HGAB manuals also come with awesome Aura Machine lineart by Izubuchi.

Maybe it's because MD is divided into a number of sublines. Buster Dolls, Bullet Knights, Chaos & Pretty, WISM, PuniMofu etc. There's no unified Megami Device style or theme, so there's no need for a poster girl.

If we're going by 1st girl = poster girl logic, then the MD poster girl would be WISM Soldier. And she's uh, not particularly distinct. Honestly, MD had a rather rough start. Took a while to find their footing which is throwing whatever stuff on the wall rather than having a unified identity.

Would you consider a kit sold at 2x original MSRP a worthwhile purchase if:
a.) It's latest reprint was more than 2 years ago and there's no indication of it getting another one any time soon
b.) It's just collecting dust in a local shop so you don't have to worry about international shipping niggadry

V2 looks off to me and I just realized that it is. They made the model kit blockier?
>>
Hello.
Its my first time building a kotobukiya kit, and I require to glue some of the parts. I have never glued parts before, the guide says to use CA Glue or epoxy but isn't specific on what brands or other supplies I will need.
Can someone tell me what specific products I may need in terms of glues, things to apply the glues, and things to hold the pieces in place while the glue cures?
Thank you in advance and I apologize if this is a newbie question.
>>
>>24035513
CA glue is super glue.
>>
>>24035513
if you're gluing abs-abs or ps-ps, you're probably better off with plastic cement (such as mr cement sp). ca/super is better for abs-ps though
>>
>>24035513
Assuming all the pieces you're working with are plastic I would recommend picking up plastic cement instead. It's a little easier to work with. There are lots of brands of "plastic cement" out there and honestly they're pretty much all fine so whatever is easiest for you to grab is probably cool but the applicators in various Mr Hobby and Tamiya products are nicer than a lot of the alternatives.
>>
>>24035512
I think a lot of the parts are just shrunk a bit. The knees and shoulders in particular are smaller. The knees are well past the skirt in the lineart and aren't nearly that high on the model.
I think it was for the best. V2 already doesn't articulate well and is already oversized. It'd just end up articulating even worse and being even bigger if they didn't reel it in a bit.
>>
>>24035522
A lot comes down to the thighs. They ride up really high in the OG art and get hidden by the skirt armour. A lot of recent designs have them sit lower and the skirt armour turns into more of a slutty miniskirt instead. Between that and a little extra length in the thighs it makes a pronounced effect. V suffers from it even more really, just look at those things.
>>
>>24035522
I also realized that the skirt being so large is detrimental to the overall design.
>>
>>24035527
The designs in victory are also really rounded and bubbly and they just never do that once the model gets made. I'm shocked how bubbly they allowed the shokew to be.

>>24035528
A lot of compromises had to be made because of it. That's the real issue with the victory gundams. They make a lot of compromises to accommodate the gimmicks. It's neat but mine are glued together for stability. I knew I would never break them down more than once.
>>

>kept dilly-dallying on a discounted HGUC Assault Buster, precisely due to a lack of beam effects
>missed the sale, ended up getting just a V2 that seemed to always be on sale
>was tempted on the Victory but was told to only get it if I really like it and the show
>started the show because the mobile game now has stages for V
>still wistfully thinking about the Assault Buster just because it's more options and more weapons
>was partly fence-sitting because the gold would look bad, but realized even a quick markering would improve it a lot
>the remaining issues would be having two V2s just standing there, as well as literally every other fucking problem that you just said
Should I just settle for the lonely V2 or is there something to the Assault Buster (or the Victory)
>tfw never seen the V-Dash or Hexa, but the V-Dash is surprisingly retail and not p-bandai
>>
>>24035488
>"wow, they really went all out on the Jotum mk 3"
>>
>>24035537
All I can say is that Second V is pretty cool but yeah, it's a tough life out there liking anything from V.
>>
>>24035546
If you can't stop thinking about Assault Buster then swallow the pill and buy the MG. The small fixes it makes to the base V2 frame are nice and it holds fairly well. Especially if you glue everything like the other anon did, mine's personally still solid without anything glued though. Any proportional quibbles go out the window when you toss all that shit on it anyway and it is undoubtedly an impressive model right out of the box.
>>
>>24035556
But I'm saving my first time for the Mk-II... I'm glad to hear that the MG's good though!

Would a sharpie unironically work, because I keep forgetting to buy one
A silver one worked fine for SDCS Mazinkaiser's sword after like five to seven layers, but for D-Style King J-Der it keeps coming off if I so much as look at it

apparently Kazumi Fujita is missing, nobody can reach or contact him at all. It reached a point where the editors included a notice asking for help in the new Neofalia mook.
Probably no indication he's missing as in a "missing person" and more so just completely cut off any means to contact him

>Ok so what am I gonna do with my poor dopey standalone V2 if I get the AB...
The V2AB can't switch configurations freely, it has to be partially disassembled. Having a spare V2 is actually useful if you want the different forms.

The issue with that is that the assault buster has gold plated parts and the normal V2 is molded yellow. Easy enough to fix with paint luckily.

They're body architecture of the various generations and lines.

Block 1.0 = The body type of the first few MD kits (WISM, SOL, ASRA, Chaos Pretty, Bullet Knights). Gets the job done. decent Articulation, the odd proportion here and there and a few visible seam lines.
Block 1.5 = The in-between generation. Better proportions and articulation than 1.0, lesser visible seam lines. Generally 1.0 but better. Most prominently used in the AUV lines and newer kit entries in the older lines.
Block 2 = The current standard of all the new MD lines (Buster Doll, Puni Mofu, Desire Maiden, Yggdrasis and the upcoming Blade Kyrias lines). Further improved proportions, articulation and seam line minimizing from even the 1.5 line. Has the 2-S variation (i.e. even smaller proportions) for loli body types, which is primarily used by the Puni Mofu line.

There's compatability issues between face/body parts in 1.0/1.5/2.0, but accessories are standard stuff, so you should be able to switch those around.

But that's the general gist. Some autist out there can probably give a more in-depth explanation of the difference and UHM ACKSYUALLY shit, but this should be enough for a tl;dr.

Prime with white or pink. I usually start with a light yellow for where the highlight will be, orange yellow for most of the part but leaving the highlight showing and then orange for the shadow. I've tried doing it in reverse, from orange up, but it loses vibrancy quite a bit.
