Not that I think we need even more niche mods, but there's a mod that converts chiseled blocks to .vox files and a second mod -Auto Chisel- that imports .vox files and chisels them. It's kind of cheesy but it would allow the easy production of decorative items like that.

I don't know if either of them are updated to 1.20, though.

I dunno, give updating windows and the .net redistributables a go. Windows does windows things sometimes. Launch the game in a cmd prompt and see if it screams something more specific in that when you try to join.
Also Host pls check for bad connections in the logs.

Just had the same issue when joining from a very underpowered device, for me it helped to get off wifi and use the absolute minimum graphics preset. I think my connection just timed out when waiting for the client to load.

I run it on a probably just as old i5-4690T and a Nvidia 810A myself
True, I did upgrade the RAM, but it still ran with 8GB before the last upgrade too, since yours is integrated, I'd say you should have that or more and not have anything else open, maybe, not sure how the RAM situation would go.
Also, look for the iGPU name next time, makes things easier for others for that kind of question: Intel Iris Xe Graphics G7 80EUs.

I did some exploring myself, and found two new oceans. The question marks are unexplored areas which potentially has a river to the north or south where they can be linked together at a canal. There are some ruins at -20k which potentially could be used as a troon node if we could get one of those here

So I tried the laptop with the i5-12500h. Got decent framerate for 2 minutes then the laptop does a thermal shutdown. I have not seen a thermal shutdown in the past 20 years... I have not used this machine for more than web browsing and other light loads so far. What a joke brand asus is.

MSI afterburner to check cpu temps
see if C-States or Intel Speedshift is enabled
ThrottleStop to force your CPU into one range of MHz when shifting clock speed.

Windows likes to do a retarded thing where it clocks my CPU to 3-4GHz on startup and instantly reaches 80 deg celsius on my CPU

I solved it another way: removed the back cover. Ran furmark + cpu burn for half an hour and no hibernation/thermal shutdown. With the back cover on it did a thermal shutdown after 2 minutes.

CPU is too new for that if I recall correctly. Plus its a laptop, so bios is locked down/locks down the configuration registers.
Disabling turbo entirely (which I can do using G-Helper) hurts a lot, the framerate in furmark halfs.

Maybe I drill/cut the back cover like with my other asus machine. That also tried to suck air from a black hole (aka nowhere). At least that machine never did a full thermal shutdown, it only thermal throttled. I guess asus evolves backwards.

Seems like the best spot for now, next key thing to find would be a spot to link the north lake to the far north ocean.
Should see if we can get a better read on the land areas around there.

May be worth trying to get more space between the base of the laptop and the intakes, that always tended to do the trick with my old T81 thinkpad.
A lot of the time it's a matter of there not being enough gap between the intake ports below and whatever it's resting on.
I know there's also cheap fanbases you can get to increase airflow.

Yeah i've marked in green where we could link Lake Noot to the northern lake with a canal or tunnel.
The real problem is that this is quite far up, so i haven't had time to make a second expedition before i had to bail out back to spawn with a recall potion.

Dig 3 blocks down, put block above you, alt-tab. Done you now defeated the storm. Fun fact: the spiteful mutant tranny driving the game's development wants to invalidate this tactic. The only way to would be to make drifters ignore blocks and gravity entirely, so you can look forwards to that! This particular inconvenience gives absolutely NOTHING to strive for, moreso with bowtorn spam and gear-guaranteed enemies (bellhead shivers and, though THAT is a bug, gearfoot bowtorns) spawning naturally outside a storm now, invalidating existence of doubleheaded drifters.

Making driggers actually drop stuff would fix all the non-bug problems with storms. Personally, I'd go out and kill the shit out of those motherfuckers if I actually got something out of it. Jack up the drop rate of both kinds of gears. Instead of a single flax fiber every 10th kill, make it so that every other kill nets you an entire rope. Have bowtorn drop 5-10 arrows of varying quality. Have mobs drop ores or even full ingots. Have mobs drop fucking aged furniture! Books! Decorative items! SOMETHING!

In other games of the genre, killing mobs is integral to survival, progression, or both. They drop food and other resources, and as they scale in power you're required to improve your weapons and armor to keep pace because you need what they have. But in Vintage Story it's pointless to kill Drifters. I'll go out every day butt-ass naked armed with a shitty spear and fight a fucking bear that can kill me in two hits because if I win I can wear his hide, eat his flesh, and use his bones and sinews to repair my tools. The fuck do I get for fighting driggers? Some flax fiber, maybe? Why would I expend the energy?

Usually when I do single player I use mods to make it so that driggers can only spawn deep underground, and then compensate with mods that add new hostile mob types like sharks or dinosaurs or something. It's more balanced and far, far more entertaining.

I went and tested this mod in singleplayer on 1.20.12, and it still works, even though the mod is outdated. Ice freezes when loading new chunks during winter, and turns back to water when loading said chunks during spring. It says it's safe to enable and disable on existing worlds

Which literarily tells me the wrong thing to do. This game cant even show the right key to press to do an action. It shows hardcoded ones which are not how my keybindings are. Also who the fuck came up with the default completely retarded keyboard layout should be torn limb by limb and cooked in molten salt.

Nope! C&B has off-grid cubes, columns, planes (including correctly sectioned off planes), and "arbitrary cuboid" a.k.a. click-and-drag mode, plus can place voxels against any surface and place chiseled blocks off-block-grid. Stuff you don't get in VS even with chiseltools.

One thing that i do like with VS is how the worldgen integrates with the progression of the seasons and longer days in the summer and vice versa, something which no minecraft mod has been able to replicate.

The closest thing to this is some worldgen mod which somewhat distributes the biomes by temperature, but this is still likely half-assed and it still got that "equator" day and night cycle which is part of minecraft's core mechanics

Made some changes to the hammer setup in the church, it now runs like a diesel-electric engine but on coal and with direct mechanical drive still completely in tact.

ADDED MALTEZES FIREARMS AND UPDATED.
Didn't update to the redux version of water weather sim mod because even after installing .NET 8.0 through arch package repo, the server could not find .NET 8.0 when loading the mod, and .NET 8.0 is what the mod was built using as it's meant to work with 1.21 and 1.20.
I FUCKING LOVE bloated library design and not being able to recompile things from source to solve this problem.

Tell me about it... I spent like 2 weeks to work around this at work.
In my case, I did not even have control over the application itself (which was a c++ app), because I was writing a plugin. And if any other plugin existed which used a different .NET version then whatever .NET version (plugin) managed to load, that won preventing all other plugins from loading which used a different .NET version.
Only solution is to have multiple processes each hosting a mayor .NET version and have inter process communication between them. The plugin ended up being a native code dll, starting the real plugin process and making IPC calls. But after a lot of struggle this was scrapped too because the plugin needed to provide UI elements and windows does not make it easy to have code rendering UI showing up in another application.
