However, it's a perception effect. She knows tons about farming (and probably not just apples) and farm management. If you've ever tried gardening, you'll know that there is tons of non-trivial information you need to know and skills you need to develop: everything from understanding micro and macro weather cycles, to soil quality needed for specific plants, to pest and plant disease control, and much much more. In reality, a country pony like her would probably also know all about the lical plants, animals, and medicinal herbs as well. So, maybe in a "city-slicker" environment she's out of water, but a city dweller would look just as idiotic on a farm or out in the countryside.
Redneck is a term born out of jealousy because biology professors kept saying find a spouse far away from urban areas.

All ponies are gorgeous, (maybe a few are not by design). This allows you to focus on the inner soul and seek comparative beauty there. AJ is having a hard time, because her character is kinda based on a stereotype, even when it's the nicest interpretation of it. They all kind of are. The nerd one, the jock one, the shy one, the prissy one, the funny one and the hillbilly one. But AJ inherits the greatest number of not-so-great concepts associated with her stereotype. And it makes it harder to look past the surface. I like AJ but she kinda strikes me as kinda plain. When I try to imagine a date with her I can't really say what she would be like. She's so obsessed with work.
