Immortals live by their purpose. Her purpose was denied to her by centuries. Her vision was refused, told to wait, again and again. And when she couldn't take it any longer, the tried to prove her design by force, she tried her best to show it. And she was punished for it. She lost every little thing she had built. Complete isolation for a thousand years, but her spirit unbroken despite that. And when she returned, filled with hope of proving her design, she shouted "The night will last forever!". It wasn't a threat. It wasn't a declaration of the final moments of Equestria. It was a joyous announcement.And her hope was, again, stripped away from her the very same day. Now she is the dorky adorable and convenient little princess. With less than she had before. With the core issue not addressed. With nothing fundamentally changed. And I find myself, against all sense, filled with desire to tell her she is not alone. And there are still those who fight for her.

The fantasy of "ooooh the princess is so lonely but (You)! are the only one who gets her! in all the kingdom, princess Luna falls for (You) because you're... kind to her, or something!".There's merit to portrayals of Luna who are actually dignified. But to a degree, the line is kinda blurry between "Luna who's a strong ruler, competent in war and statecraft, confident and commanding great respect and authority" and "Nightmare Moon who's strict but fair, values her ponies and Equestria, a strong ruler wielding great respect and authority". Sometimes the difference between a good portrayal of Luna and a good portrayal of Nightmare Moon is just the coat colour (and maybe whether Celestia is on the scene or not).

In my trainwreck schizo lore, Nightmare Moon was a spirit who possessed Luna much like the Pony of Shadows possessed Stygian, and when the elements of harmony purged her from Luna's body, she was flung into the everfree, not dead, but severely weakened.In "normal" lore, my ponysona has not yet encountered her, though he is generally destined to, at some point. Makes it easier to do RPing, or it used to, when I actually used to have the time and the spirit to write anything. I really, really miss it.The more intriguing storyline is what I did with the alternate timeline where Nightmare Moon was never defeated by the elements. There, my sona is similarly enamored with her like myself, but unlike in the main timeline, he actually has the balls to sneak out to the castle, and after twilight- fighting Moon alone- is defeated, he ends up confessing his love to Moon and she decides to keep him around.He's a dragonpony, so it's somewhat selfish on her end, he would be useful, after all. But because I'm the one writing the damn thing, they actually do develop feelings for each other, and this is an issue for him because he has to choose between the country he loves and life as he knows it and the mare of his dreams, who really is (mostly) everything he dreamed of.There's a few sick turning points, like the time in which he has a genuine chance to let Chrysalis kill Moon, saving, Equestria, and yet he intervenes, almost getting killed himself in the process. Moon ends up fixing him, using some sort of ancient steel alloy hidden in the old castle to create a new foreleg and wing for him, enchanted to function just like the old ones, but with razor-sharp claws and a wing-edge that could cut through bone.He's a fucking nerd, but Moon is trying to shape him into someone who would kill to ensure her reign, and he isn't exactly willing.The other half of that story are the "good" guys, Chrysalis and Cadence, hidden away underground, rekindling a teenage romance or something that might just give them the power to overthrow Moon, regardless of her firebreathing mate. But the story just got too bogged down by details, BOTH times I tried to write it. What about Luna? What happens to her? She's still inside of Moon, after all! Does sona die at the end when she's banished? Do the elements meet, despite it all? I even tried to have a shining armor/blueblood romance on top of the other two ships, lolAnd why a sona? Well, I've never been one for humans in Equestria, not even myself. Pony or bust, I suppose. Ideally dragonpony, because I love dragons too, but I'm fine with whatever. Just not a human. Damn.It's sad, not even directly shipping my sona with my waifu is enough to get me to be able to finish writing a fic. I fucking miss writing, man. I even miss roleplaying. Even the shitty sexo 3AM ones.

Summer just kills me.Not super related, but Super Ponybeat's Luna (DREAM mode) was the original inspiration for my first pony OC, and it's still my favorite song to this day. I guess it also helps that Moon isn't.... spoken for? Her story is open ended, it's easy to start with the point of "what if the elements banished her from Luna?" and work from there. With other ships, it's a lot more complex, I guess. I suppose I also do have quite a thing for villains... I really like Sombra a lot, I want a plush of him someday too. He was also in that RP, living in Sona's dreams, which by the way are another platform for spending as much time as he wishes with Moon.Once he goes to sleep on any given night, he can spend 40 years in his dreams doing whatever he and Moon want to do, which I think is just cool. I don't really know though, is that it? Is it just one RP? I've shipped the guy with a hundred ponies, how come Moon clicked so well?
