>>42531626>greenfags>moving to real literatureLMAO
>>42531631>t. AI writer
>>42530911>>42530739The problem with 95% of writefags was that they'd be confined to writing smut because that's what sold and retards wouldn't give them any grand feedback beyond "Ooh make it more romantic, ooh more dramatic, ooh more comedy, just make my cock hard but also make me feel"The other 4% started average written CYOA quests but without /tg/'s storytelling skills and love for math. And the other 1% was ironically this Equestria Girls writer about some superhero adventure fic with catacombs under the school. I think the main character was called Nolan? It also involved Flash Sentry a lot and another character who was blonde. So while most of the writers could tulpamance up some alright prose that beats the shit out of LLMs and some decent dialogue and average characters, none of them were good at the other 80% of what constitutes good storytelling: pacing, world design, an actual story, a character who behaves like a character and not a self insert with the vocabulary of a 20 year old liberal college student and a mentality of a 10 year old who never went through life.Basically most of the writing's quality averaged from Lego Ninjago tier to Monkie Kid Xiaolin Showdown bullshittery, but without the actual innovation.Dragon Prince is the kind of writing you'd get around here, not The Last Airbender tier.Nobody here told the writers to categorize and write their stories as if they were pitching an actual book or movie or TV Show because everyone here was and still is an underage tasteless retard who watches soap opera drama and sappy romance novels because they're all estrogen-ridden faggots who think Coffin of Andy & Leyley is the pinnacle of writing.

>>42531790>>42531652There were a bunch of generals not focused on smut, but they were for Fallout and a few other things which were in the minority and also didn't help the show and didn't help storytelling writers learn how to write correctly. In this fandom there were never contests and critiques about trying to match Faust's style of writing or similar. Of course you could write better than a fucking animator under numerous limitations, but not if you too were under those limitations and you also had to match the same unique style as her or do something actually talented like The Last Airbender without feeling immersion breaking like Fallout. The background, vocabulary and mentality got very obvious that it was a 17 year old kid or a 27 year old redneck compared to a 40 year old veteran with friends from a middle-class background. Most bronies are not middle class neither had very expansive friend groups or anything intelligent to say that they didn't steal from somewhere else. The goal was to have an anchor where writers could post their greens from other threads, regroup them, and keep them archived when temporary threads died. This way, they could be kept a bit longer without disturbing activities in threads that weren't generals.I tried to keep it alive with other activities, like a greenclub where we'd take random greens from Ponepaste and give them reviews. We also had a Jam that was quite successful: https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/41536405/#41536409 Unfortunately, by the end it was mostly me trying to keep it alive, and it finally died when I went to sleep.

I haven't been doing greens for a while because things are very bad in my life and may continue to get worse. Or it may get better. At the very least I've been able to do a variety of panels so I can still talk about either how to better understand what makes up a story. Or I've just outdone done raw storytelling panels. I haven't abandoned things. I'm just trying to do what I still can in my capacity to focus. I have many greens to finish. Even if they aren't sexual or so widespread enticing, they deserve to be finished.>>42531790I should make sure I try to go to it if my schedule allows due to staffing.>>42530611Also a standard fact is that art is easier to do and get praise from. It is easy to tell when you are arting good. It is fun to have people instantly tell you that you are acting good. Writing takes effort to write but also takes effort to read. You may spend hours just to realize you don't like a story or that it just lost your interest. Or you disconnect as a writer or reader. Lot more pitfalls that require you thinking things through.
>>42532678>Also a standard fact is that art is easier to do and get praise from.This. Art generally can be very flexible. There isn't just one way to do it, as long as it isn't glaringly low quality, people tend to be pretty lenient with art-styles. With writing though, it's a lot stricter. Trying to bend or ignore writing rules usually just produces a shitty result. While art can be pretty open in how you do it, writing is a lot more objective in how it's judged. You can't use poor grammar and punctuation and say it's part of your style, you're just a shitty writer. But an artist can play fast and loose with anatomy or proportions, and it can work just fine. There's just a lot more rules that need to be adhered to when it comes to writing.
>>42531652>95% coomer>4% cyoa>1% EQGI know I've written a lot of stuff that wasn't coombait. Some of it was lewd but I keep almost all of my lewd writing away from poni because there's almost nothing to it. Cheap, random smut is boring. I'd rather write about a desperately lonesome mare coming to terms about how her best friend tried to kill her and that her only escape is a guy who's also too lonely to view her actions as suspicious. Which can then lead (You) to wonder how much is genuine and who is really being taken advantage of. It can include lewd moments but if you're really wondering certain details you don't just want to jorken das weiner. Thankfully I have written something just like that. I just want to finish it.>>42531736You will never be famous. You will never be rich. Not from writing greens. Now with that out of the way, write what you want or what The Mare demands. There is no accounting for taste. There is no reason to ever think a story will be read seriously. So just do it. Do it because you have to. Do it because no one else can do your idea justice. Do it because we have thousands of ideas guys and maybe a few hundred willing to actually go on that journey to completion.

It seems to me like there's just less people these days willing to create something on a whim. Looking back through Desu, there's tons of writefags who basically should up in two or three threads, put out a couple of greens, and then vanished. Most writefags have a career spanning a few months before they disappear. There's so many bins that only have like 5 greens in them. Really, anons just need to be more willing to put a random idea to paper and put it out. There's so much old content that would be considered cringe these days, we just cared less about being cringe. Irony poisoning is our worst enemy.
>>42530611I've tried writing a few but since all of my writing experience is a mix of RP and fimfiction, I can't really pull off the green text format for very long so I either end up just writing normally with an angle bracket in front of every paragraph or I just give up and copy it over to fimiction where it's either finished there or it joins the legion of unfinished stories gathering metaphorical dust
>>42530611im still herei find inspiration to write to be sparse in the last couple years but when the inspiration comes i still write
>>42533420They would if they got more feedback.
>>42533518Look. Here's the pronlem with you guys, making art is like taking a shit. You just need to get it out. No inspiration? Sit down and shit it out anyway. Its BAD to keep your creativity inside, you need to just make SOMETHING. If you wait around for inspiration to come, or worse yet the perfect inspiration, you will never make anything. And the more your creativity gets pent up, the more its gonna try to come out in other avenues. This is part of why so many people get into horrible extreme fetish porn. The energy has to go somewhere! So shut up and just write SOMETHING. It might suck, but every time you do it, youll get a little better. And inspiration will gradually get easier as you get your creativity unconstipated. It is that simple.
>>42532731>do it because it's what you want to doYou're right Anon... you're so right. Thank you.
>>42534061Whenever a thread gets put up, half the time its just necrobumps. And it all comes back to the same few things. 1. No contribution culture. The past board culture was ALL ABOUT contributing. Alot of anons modernly just refuse to contribute even FEEDBACK on a fic. 2. Deep and primordial fear of being cringe. 3. Fandom balkanization. All three of these things at any given time are playing out on the board almost constantly. All of this serves to do one thing; suffocate the creative energy. Alot of people here make porn, but porn isnt creative. Porn is easy! Any idiot can make jerk off fuel. We make more of it than ever now because we have destroyed the outlets for the creative energy to go anywhere else but into gooning and anger addiction. I wouldn't be surprised if also a lot of anons said they had some sort of recurring illnesses.Everyone here needs to stop wasting time. Stop getting into bullshit identity discourse, stop jerking off 24/7. Take a moment to get down to earth and just make something. If you have no inspiration, do it anyway. Do it ESPECIALLY when you have no inspiration or have writers block. Do it if you think it sucks, fuck do it even if you do suck at writing. People might hate it, people might love it. But atleast youll have MADE something. And youll do a little better next time, and keep doing a little better. Stop getting caught up in bullshit and switch back to a culture of making stuff. Contribute, even if just commenting on what you genuinely think about a green (or art or fimfic or WHATEVER.)This is the answer. And until people can just go back to contributing for the sake of contribution, we will never have a functioning board culture again.
No one gives a fuck about your shitty greens. Time to grow up, learn how to actually write, and post real stories on Fimfiction instead of shitting up the board with hack-tier garbage.
Reminder that fimfic fags are just jealous whenever someone that isn't them gets attention
>>42534061I would rather make nothing than make something bad.Perfectionism without the talent to back it up is a curse.
>>42534061Can confirm 100% that's not how it works for me. If I write some forced shit it's gonna be nothing but forced shit, uninspired, formulaic, out of obligation. When I get an idea, I want to like it, I want to have fun with it, I don't want to "shit it out" to then regret it later when I actually realize how I could've made it better. Sure some people might like it but I'm the judge of how I feel about them. Some greens took me a few years to brew and after just one stray idea that finally solved them I written them in one sitting. Obviously not saying don't write anything at all, practice is important, just think before you decide to brown your own best idea for the sake of shitting it out as soon as possible because of some expectations.
>>42533243No. It's very apt. Rhorse was a zootranny who forced irl shit into pony and wasn't welcome when she tried, leading her to bitch and moan about it. Would you writefags be interested in writing for another IP that's equally about cute characters? It's this combination of topical parody adult subject matters with kids misinterpreting the events in their own way and creating their own nation like Lord of the Flies, and you have over 130 characters to pick from and you're welcome to come up with your own character if you feel like the current ones cannot play a role correctly. There's only 1 thing though ... you have to be funny. >>42534401You guys seem to be misunderstanding what i said. Which points back to the problem-youre clenching your artistic asshole extremely tight and refuse to let anything out unless you can make it the PEEFECT shit. Guess what- if you do that, you either will write very little or will never write at all....which is kinda the situation we are at now on the board. Im not saying rush through it, im not saying dont put effort into it. What i am saying is that you need to actually write. Maybe you dont post it THAT DAY but you need to write REGULARLY. You need to push through your blockage, or else nothing good will come of it. This has nothing to do with expectations. It has everything to do with development. What do drawfags tell you when you wanna get better? That you need to draw regularly. Its the same with writing or any other creative endeavour. You need to sit down and actually do the thing, not wait around for the best idea and motivation to come and THEN do the thing. You need to write something you like. But you also need to just *write*. You need to write especially when you dont like what youre writing and feel no inspiration. You set aside what you made, come back and look at it the next day and work on it some more. But for gods sake, stop waiting to have the perfect idea or motivation.
>>42534061>Look. Here's the pronlem with you guys, making art is like taking a shit. You just need to get it out. No inspiration? Sit down and shit it out anyway.Get outta here, Trey Parker. This is why all your plots are half-assed and you have to copy-paste what movies you've watched or books you've read recently and if what you watched/read recently is dogshit then your subconscious will fill it up with dogshit without thinking. Seriously South Park takes at best/worst 4-7 days to write a script in a group of typemonkeys and then they wonder why South Park is constantly worse than The Simpsons and Futurama. Here's a South Park AU with a huge amount of characters where the stories were even less than greentexts, they were fun shitposts of anons ripping into each other with their toy characters. Anyone who bothers reading all the characters for these will notice that there's obvious big archetypes missing that could help a character-driven story such as the mentor figure, supporting characters and the 6-10 personality types like the mane6. Don't put the cart before the horse.https://north-park-creations.fandom.com/wiki/Special:AllPages
>>42537936>What do drawfags tell you when you wanna get better?Who said anything about getting better? This is an entirely different problem. I'm not saying don't work on your story, I'm saying it needs different kind of work. What you're offering is just writing for the sake of writing, it only works if you already know what you want to write, want to write it with passion but can't put it into words. Practice solves that. But just shitting out words when you head is empty, nobody benefits from that, you might as well make AI do it. A half-baked story won't benefit from you just increasing the word count enough to finish it, no matter how many words you put into it. I think what that case needs is researching, reading similar literature, daydreaming about it, imagining a movie trailer about it, anything to make a discovery of what you want out of it. In other words, when you have nothing to say maybe it's better to listen instead.

>>42530611A lot of posters are carving out an exception for smut, as though that shouldn't count. This strikes me as silly. You don't have to appreciate smut, but as I see it, you can't fully appreciate the structural nuances of greentext without considering it.Greentext is a format particularly well suited to porn and/or romance. It's great for clear and snappy back and forth, a dialogue with a lot of small scale stage directions. The alternation between green and regular colours naturally makes it very obvious which side is talking and the consistently separated lines makes it easy for detailed stuff to continually be happening without disrupting the pace. In other words, it's perfectly ideal for writing sex, and very good for writing the kind of one on one interactions that might expectedly preceed sex or follow from sex.Now consider writing a scene involving five characters all talking, or trying to write a large scale battle scene. Both are possible, both can be done well, but now sticking to the greentext format starts making things significantly more difficult, rather than being structurally complementary. So, if you're not planning to write smut, there's not much reason to choose greentext as the format beyond following board convention and wanting to post it here for the sake of the board itself. On the other hand you could choose any other format, which would likely be more complementary to what you're focusing on, and fimfiction will give you what's realistically a vastly better catalogue for your work to be stored and found.Even in terms of the immediacy of having the audience in the thread lends itself well to porn, as a writer can guage reader interests as they post and adjust more dynamically than they could if posting full chapters to fimfiction. Most other subjects won't benefit in the same way from that kind of fine tune tweaking for taste. There's also how obviously condusive the second person perspective is to self inserting for smut, but that pov and its benefits aren't strictly exclusive to greentexts, plenty of fimfiction stories are second person just without any of the other constraints of a proper greentext format.None of this is to say you can't write a great greentext that's entirely bereft of anything lewd, plenty have done so. However, for most other purposes the format won't be on your side in the same way as it would be for smut. It follows that greentext smut is the thing that endures, while writers who aren't interested in smut drift away from the greentext format.
