I've been waiting for a chance to bounce some ideas I've been having about Pinkie Pie off someone. It seems like Pinkie Pie really isn't as popular as she was in the past. My personal theorizing that I've done, I think it's because she's a VERY 2010's character. Her wacky 4th wall humor was incredibly popular back then, but has since fallen out of favor quite considerably. I don't think people these days find her humor nearly as entertaining as it was considered back then. Pinkie is very much a product of the times, and I feel like her archetype has aged much more poorly than the other 5. It was enough to carry her back then and make her popular, but these days that style of humor just doesn't get you far. Like how Filthy Frank was extremely popular in 2016-2019 times, but these days no one doing that sort of thing would get anywhere near as popular. What do y'all think? Do you agree that her style of humor dates her too much?
On a different note, I'll never understand why RD is so popular with so many people. She has such a thoroughly unpleasant personality, and the big redeeming quality that's supposed to make up for that, her loyalty, is almost non-existent compared to the others. If she doesn't have some personal interest or investment in something, she gives zero shits and either wont help at all, or do the bare minimum in helping, usually making things worse in the process. She is genuinely the pony who is the most likely to turn her back on you or throw you under the bus, and I do not understand why so many people glaze over these things just because she's the designated element of loyalty. If the series wasn't constantly trying to tell you about how amazingly loyal she is, I guarantee most people wouldn't ascribe that quality to her.

It is kinda funny because S1 Pinkie really isn't that random, but 2000s random humor was just beginning to die as the show's concept was created so Pinkie Pie became Pinkie Pie. I feel like a 2025 version of G4 would do her a good bit differently but I think people still enjoy silly characters, it just requires a different approach than what the show ended up doing with her.

Not him, but I find early Pinkie more annoying. Her being a narcissistic asshole to Cranky/Gilda is inexcusable, worse than anything she ever did afterwards, baiting the element of loyalty to de-friend Gilda pissed me off, Pinkie's writing hurts other characters sometimes. The way she is lazily used to force the plot along like with keeping her random knowledge of the parasprites a secret the entire episode also left a bad taste in my mouth, doesn't even make sense, why does Pinkie even know more about this deadly creature of famine than Fluttershy or Celestia, again her writing harming characters that should know better.

Top soul tier: Pinkie and Rarity. Both are creatives and highly intellectual in each own sophisticated way.
Default normie tier: Twi and Fluttershy. Default protagonist and shy cute girl with little character development, and rare sparks that make them stand out.
American tier: Dash and AJ. I just don't get them.

Since you got quads I can share some info.
I make lifesize plushies and a lot of them are mane six. But Twilight and Dash dominate, I probably made more Dashies and Twis than other mane six combined. AJ and Pinkie are last, made only a few of them. Trixie and Sunset Shimmer are more common in my commissions than PP, FS, AJ and Rarity.

Twi is the main character, while Dash is the promotional face of the show. Nerd and jock. Makes sense. Also 3rd place among mane six is Fluttershy, which also makes sense, her archetype is also common.
