How would the show be different if it was written for boys.
It wouldn't exist because boys don't like cute little horsies, so sayeth corporate execs.

>>42561579I don't think it necessarily would be like that. If I had to adapt it the first step would be to make the protagonists stallions. Twilight would be a knight or squire or something looking to prove himself. Ponyville I would put near the border or just a more dangerous location then I would shrink the cast (sorry rainbow and applejack) to represent the 4 cardinal virtues. Twilight would be more physically strong but lean towards smarts while rarity would be smart but lean towards the physical and be an all round mare magnet. Fluttershy would be the quiet kid and Pinkie the typical class clown. I would not make it much more violent than the canon show but make it more confrontational. Although boys would probably like at least one good brawl. The artstyle I would make sharper or more bold but keep the colour. The ponies might be less pastel but that doesn't mean their caparisons or surroundings would not be colourful.

MLP has plenty of boy episodes too, like the Dungeons and Discord. but, if it where a boys show, the animation style would be a lot more sharp, like samurai jack. the main focus of the show would feel a lot colder. definetly a smaller cast, maybe 4-3 main characters at most with more episodes being focused on the main characets running into background ponies who cause problems, or friendship problems being a lot more emotional similar to bridal gossip or look before you sleep. just with a firm handshake at the end instead of laughs and hugs.I think the main character could be a boy, and the show could even work if the rest where still all girls. a r63 Twilight Sparkle trying to find his way with a still female AJ, Rarity, and Rainbow Dash for obvious shipping bait, but characters like pinkie and Fluttershy would both be cut, as their personality's would clash to hard with a more boyish Twilight who is more prone to telling ponies out right to fuck off and let him read in peace. The show may still be popular, I think culturally right now it would sky rocket but its hard to say if it would had it released at the same time as FiM. and, boys these days dont really buy toys. even action figures, so doubt the show would ever have as much marketability as it did. you would definitely see a much more consistant world building, even playing on the darker parts of fantasy like a deeper implication that Dusk Shine/Twilight never got to grow up as a regular child and had to spend much of their childhood studying magic in and out, even if they preferred it that way. This could even lead to them having a deep rivalry against shinning armor as he at least got to marry a princess while Dusk would be considered a loser by all standards at show start. I would watch it, without a doubt. It may even be better than FiM.
