She’s a little filly growing into a young mare and her brother is absolutely the primary male figure in her life, so as she grows up those new warm fuzzy feelings would be directed at him. She’s young enough in her flashbacks that they could do things like cuddle or sleep together and it would be completely platonic, but fillies don’t stay fillies forever. That closeness with her brother became more and more important to her, and it made her feel wonderful in a way it hadn’t in the past. Twi’s probably the kind of filly to settle into bed with her big brother on day, climb on top of him, give him a kiss and say she loves him. Shining is still just a kid himself, so you’ve got two kids, closer to each other than to anyone else, who love each other more than anyone else… I could see it. AJ and Big Mac are a little closer in age and had a pretty contentious relationship. There probably had to be more of a concerted effort there. Not necessarily because Mac wouldn’t be willing to do it, but because they weren’t all lovey-dovey like the Sparkle kids.

I just think they had to cram a big brother into the canon last minute so they had to go all out on it. Shining was gonna get married as soon as he was introduced anyway, so there was no room for any funny speculation. That was the logic, at least. Instead they ended up creating the premiere incest couple in the fandom. Like shit, if there wasn’t a Cadance there’s no way Twilight wouldn’t be all over her brother.
