I was thinking about this recently, my version would be that she's working on either an outfit for a friend of hers who's going to go to Canterlot for a party. She's created a really elegant, silver outfit will fit in perfectly but she's not proud of her work, it feels like she's just made what's expected rather than what she actually believes in. Then the light from the rainbow floods the room and lets her see the silver bits reflecting incredible colors, completely reimagining the outfit in an instant. She then rushes out to the quarry and gets horribly dirty and tired and scuffed up finding every gem she can and she makes the first outfit she's truly proud of.
