twily and cady working together to keep equestria in order, cady knowing anon the longest, knows anon's process but when twilight sees how anon actually does things, she's horrified, she can't recognize any actual logic in his work, cadence explains he's been "winging it" for the past 1000 years

Celly and luna, while celestia is able to adapt better and lose her old ponish way of speaking, she still has her old assumptions, luna still has a way to go and still has a bad habit on unleashing the ROYAL CANTERLOT VOICE

Anon and Discord are just cut away gags, it can be the most bro things like digging holes or the most normal Perry the platypus sublot they accidentally stop a necromancer from raising an army by caving in their lair while digging

okay, admittedly, I'm a little stuck, but in a good way, because I have multiple options for how this green could continue, but I don't actually know which to go for
right now, there are three main things that I want to tackle in this story, because I think they'd be fun and/or cute

Don't know if that spitfire practice writefag is still reading these threads, but one idea you could go for is having Earth Pony Anon treat Spitfire like a normal pony- not because he just wants to be nice, but because he genuinely has no idea who she is.

Seeing this as a breath of fresh air, Spitfire is interested in Anon and wants to know more about him. The story could then focus on their relationship and how it evolves- Spitfire trying to maintain her own life without scaring Anon away with her fame, and Anon discovering and trying to understand Spitfire's life despite being from a completely different lifestyle (and that doesn't include the cultural differences between due to their different races)

Flying is hard! You flap your wings as hard and fast as you can and manage to lift off the ground but the strain is immense, you only just manage to get yourself a few feet above the ground with great effort.
Your wings feel heavier with each beat, already building up quite the sweat all over your body. Perhaps if you knew how to fly better you'd get a glimpse at the civilization you desire, unfortunately though your wings are not strong enough to carry you higher just yet.

Landing back upon the forest floor panting you look around once more. There is nothing but an endless maze of brown, green and black as far as you can see. The only change in the landscape is the distant snowy peaks of the mountains, some close their shadows cast across the forest while others loom against the horizon far, far away.
It seems for now you'll have to hoof it to find anything or perhaps anyone else. The sight of the forest is daunting, you hope that these trees don't scream inside your head like the other one did...

With no other options you begin trotting into the forest, quickly becoming enveloped in the shadows.

i think my general rule will be to wait about half an hour before coming up with the next step and for dice rolls like that the higher the number the better result, thats what im thinking.

Into the forest.
Fallen leaves, roots and twigs crunching and snapping underhoof as you make your way deeper into the forest, its embrace humid and still but for the calls and chirps of its smaller residents.
The woods are big! the trees tower over you greatly, their roots intertwining with one another and overlapping with the gnarls and thorns of various briars and brambles as if in competition for even the smallest of spaces. No path presents itself just yet but you keep your eyes peeled for anything and your ears perked for the sound of water, either would surely be the thing to follow to find... something.

You wander for quite awhile, the sun casting warmer and warmer light on the forest bathing it in its orange haze as dusk draws near.

A common pitfall for new QM's is not providing the players with enough direction so they don't know what they're supposed to do. The breeze on your body feels chillier than it ought to you think, perhaps your coat is a bit thinner than it should be, without a mirror or other reflective surface to gaze upon your natural beauty though you're unsure as to the extent of your predicament.
Your wanderings through the forest have finally paid off! Parting some of the brush your eyes light up at the sight of a castle!
A real, genuine ancient ruin in the heart of the forest. Most certainly old and decrepit even from this distance. Its crumbling walls and broken spires are visible but nevertheless its the first sign of civilization you've spotted since awakening in this odd place.
Perhaps within you may find shelter or even clues to help you better understand the world around you?

You are indeed light enough to cross the rope bridge, While the walk has tired you out somewhat it did let your wings relax, whilst full flight isn't achievable it seems you can manage wing assisted hops quite well. Hopping from board to board on the bridge as though your light as a feather and quickly making It safely across to the other side, the ancient ruin rising intimidatingly above you. The old castle would be the ideal location for a secret lair for your nefarious schemes.

This place is old! You make your way inside though the conveniently ajar front door and into the main hall. Dust, cobwebs and plenty of scattered leaves greet you like royalty as you enter, this place must have been important once, with all the faded and moth-eaten tapestries and banners hanging from the walls.
The room splits off into multiple routes, 6 halls and stairways branching off either side with a large double stairwell at the end of the hall, above which is two fancier banners. One in midnight blues, the other in dawn yellows, both banners sporting the visage of similar winged and horned creatures... like you.

Tip tap clip clop go your hooves on old stone as you venture further into the ruins. Hopping step to step up the large stairwell because your legs are definitely long enough for them and not short at all you ascend into the upper floors of this mysterious, decrepit place.
Passing beneath the shadow of the two large banners you give them one last look before proceeding down yet another hall this time into an expansive chamber its end dominated by a shorter stairwell leading to a dais in which two twin thrones sit half destroyed by time.
The thrones sport the same colour scheme as the banners you glimpsed previously, midnight blue and dawn yellow. A banner of the night sky drapes above the left and a banner of the daytime drapes above the right, this must have been a palace once for two rulers you conclude. A king and queen or prince and princess, or perhaps even two of the same.
What a perfect place for a lair!
Theres little of interest in the throne room beyond the banners and the thrones themselves, there are however a few more doors flanking either side of the chamber. Whilst some have been collapsed in from fallen stone a few stand intact and even open, two of which catch your eye the most, on your left a closed door and on the right an open door leading down another hall.

Deftly you hop upon the dais and clamber up the blue throne, grabbing the banner in your teeth and wrenching it free with a sharp tear! tastes mothy...an acquired taste .
After a bit of fiddling, fumbling and finagling you manage to tie a knot! somewhat, hooves are silly clumsy things but you manage it well enough by using your teeth and wings, you stand proudly in the throne room having conquered it by taking down a banner and posing in the spoils of your conquest.
You have acquired the moon cape!

Satisfied and looking quite heroic you canter over to the left door, its closed and the knob as it turns out is not a handle but a conveniently shaped hoop for you to pull with you teeth. Due to being a respectable height you have to jump a little reach it then wiggle backwards to pull the door open, thankfully its unlocked!

A short walk down yet another hallway leads you into a library! A treasure trove of ancient knowledge lost to time and moths..
cobwebs, dust, mothballs, a few vines and plenty of mosses a shade greener than you observe their new guest as you trot into the centre of the library. Hundreds, perhaps thousands, of books sit abandoned on their shelves, some clearly consumed by moss and mothbites, others soaked and damp from millennia or so of rainfall through the cracks in the ceiling but many more yet are untouched just a tad dusty.
Your exploration has been rewarded, it may not be piles of treasure or snacks but its something..

Approaching the nearest bookcase you lean down slightly, very slightly, and wiggle out a book from the lowest shelf.
Its dusty to be certain but thankfully intact, sitting back on your haunches you set the book down upon the floor and flip it open with your hoof.
Miraculously, you're somehow literate, the words on the page do not feel familiar, nor do they look familiar but nevertheless you understand them.
You push the strange feeling aside as you read, this book it seems is an old recipe book explaining how one can prepare and present various period-appropriate confections and small desserts, the vivid descriptions of the treats capture your imagination and you can almost taste them. You suppose this is what they mean by flavour text.

Resolving to explore the library further you happen upon a bookcase more your stature, long since faded covers and spines in once brighter tones greet your eyes as you approach.
Grabbing a thin, leather bound volume with worn gold leaf on the spine you sit back against the case to read, propping the tome on your knees.
Opening the cover you begin to read

>Once upon a time, in the magical land of Equestria, there was a young stallion who wandered far and wide.
With his magic, he healed the sick, helped crops grow into delicious food and could even change the sky to bring perfect weather-bringing happiness to all the friends he made in his journeys.
>One day, deep in the forest, he met a jealous spirit. Scoffing at the stallion's power and the land he cherished the spirit cast a terrible curse upon the land. Crops became bitter and tasteless, rain fell the wrong way, and the ponies of the land grew angry.
>Connected so deeply to the land he wandered the stallion too was changed by the curse, no longer would he help others or nurture the land. Instead he delighted in souring their crops, letting the forests consume their homes and darkening the skies with storms.
>Fearful of what his jealously had done, the spirit pleaded to the sun and the moon above him to undo his mistake.
But like a bad seed the curse had rooted itself too deeply.
>In the end, the sun and the moon had no choice but to unite and send both the wicked spirit and the twisted stallion away forevermore.

The small, faded illustrations show blurry, smudged scenes of the story between each page though they offer little in the way of extra detail or context. You set the book down. Something seemed off about this story but you can't place what.

I say we keep that book as it clearly has Anon feeling something is off, so he'll bring it along to help find what is bugging him about it. I think Anon should explore the castle more and perhaps learn some magic.
Also, will there be ponies (perhaps the mane 6 after perhaps being notified that something has happened in the Everfree Forest. wandering into the castle while he's investigating? It'd be interesting to see how Anon interacts with some ponies before the mane 6 or the other alicorns find out.

>Anon now stood at the base of the structure. A massive hexagonal tower which jutted far into the sky. If he squinted his eyes just right, he could see the tower was capped with a rounded dome of some sort of vaguely translucent material which partly exceeded the width of the rest of the tower. >”Where’s the door?” Anon was bewildered. His gaze locked firmly on the rocky texture of the path and his discarded blade.

After sighing to himself, Anon stood back up, and picked his sword off the ground, returning it to its sheath. He wasn’t sure how cold it could get in this valley at night, so he started to scope out other buildings which weren’t entirely enveloped or crumbled to their foundations. Afterall even a few walls could work wonders at keeping the wind off his hide.
>A smaller building across from the tower caught his eye. It lacked a roof, but it did have four, or technically three and a quarter walls. Large opening, and not so much lush foliage that a fire couldn’t start. Good enough Anon surmised as he trudged his way towards it.
>Debris from the collapsed roof made an excellent surface to start a campfire on, and while thick vines had certainly invaded parts of this room, he still had plenty of space to lay out his sleeping mat and get going on his gourmet dinner of boiled hay and flowers. After filling his belly with a bland dinner, Anon laid down for the night. The collapsed roof gave Anon an unprecedented view of lunar sky. Stargazing was… difficult in his old life if Anon remembered right. But here… It was a feast for the eyes. Often Anon would forget about the benefits of his new home, although it was often weighed against the many cons.
