Derpy will have accidentally sent a winter storm into Ponyville far ahead of schedule that will end up freezing the Blob. The Blob managed to destroy a decent portion of Ponyvilel but didn't kill anypony because MLP is for kids.

One thing about the Blob rfom the movie is it never traveled openly in the daytime. It's never mentioned in the movie but it only seems to travel openly at night like slugs or earthworms which make it hard to detect. It might be vulnerable to dehydration when exposed to the sun for long periods which is an unmentioned weakness. It naturally uses darkness and stealth and surprises its victims in the movie so it actually could kill a few ponies before being stopped. Remember, it doesn't just eat ponies so it could actually get fairly large eating other animals before it gets to the dominant form of life so it could wind up being a serious threat before it was identified and stopped.
