I read Pink Eyes. Another story where I felt like the author got to around the halfway point before realizing he needs an ending of some sort and then came up with one on the spot. It didn't really for the story. I rate it OK.
>>42596596Ending stories is hardYou like your characters, you don't want the adventure to end really.
>>42596490It comes in the same package.
>>42595516Don't diss the sweetness that is Lil'Pip
Bump with wise words from Lil'Pip.
So how was Mare Fare /foe/ggots
>>42597298Fun, I had a lot of fun
>>42596895>Lil'PipAnon, these are Blackjack's colors.
Fear not, /FoE/ generalFor MURKY is here to save you from the RGRE schizoposting
>>42598088He's literally me
>>42598088He's a cute little guy, I'm glad I'm not him though
>>42596895>Smoke trail>On an energy weaponOh this triggers my ass.
>>42595090Yo, I need deets on why Littlepip is actually just a slightly more principled raider.
>>42598088>>42598101Protoge and Murky making sweet boy love.
>>42598757Verboten since Murky is straight
>>42599168>constantly teased for looking like a little filly>gets very close and bashful with multiple males in the storyNah he's bi at least.
>>42599192Littlepip never murdered anypony, Blackjack never groomed anypony and Murky is the straightest stallion alive.
>>42599192Just because he's effeminate and that one guy wanted to rape him doesn't mean he's gayUnless you want to admit that P-21 is straight because he fucked Blackjack
>>42599609>Unless you want to admit that P-21 is straightMaybe he would've been under normal circumstances. He's prison gay on steroids.
>>42599798Yep. He loves BJ and likes pussy but hates mares because he was raped a bunch.
>>42600075The facial expressions are accurate.
>>42600075Man, P-21 really had it rough. He deserved better.

>>42600483Why does he look like Robin Hood?
>>42601038Then amazing cute homohorse love occurs. Also Protege's cool gryphoness guard lives and they have threesome fun.
does blackjack ever learn that littlepip and the stable dweller are the same pony? im on chapter 41 of PH.
>>42601981Yes. Very late in the story.
Losing patience with Renewal. The author added in multiple character perspectives and a whole mess of dream sequences and flashbacks to explain the setting, and it's slowed the pace to a crawl. It's taken 30 chapters for Aurora and her friends to make a trip that Pip or BJ would have done in five. The new background lore is hit or miss, feels like it opens up as many plot holes as it fixes. It's less zany than the original universe, but also more mundane and tech-heavy. At least it made Anonmare canon in FoE. Dunno if I'll keep reading, these chapters are getting longer and longer and the ending is a massive 80k words.
Are there any finished audiobooks for Murky No. 7 and Pink Eyes?
>>42602371Thanks. It's starting to feel like a bit that has overstayed it's welcome.
>>42602752Yeah it's meant to be a running gag throughout the story to illustrate how dense BJ is.
>>42602422>anon can't handle reading multiple perspectives>anon doesn't get that the story isn't GUNS VIOLENCE DEATHRenewal is excellent and superior to anything Kkat did. The lore is consistent and makes sense, the world is far more realistic, and the characters are compelling. My only issue is that it did the same gayness as other FoE shit and has Aurora be a faggot.
Why is Glory so damn cute bros?
>>42603091I can 'handle' Renewal just fine. It certainly held my interest longer than the original fic. But it suffers from a terminal case of wheel-spinning in the later chapters. I just read an entire 4500 word section where the characters sat around and talked about their feelings and nothing happened. And the lore has plenty of holes in it - ironically because it's cribbing some of the dumbest parts of Fallout lore verbatim. Stuff like survivors living in shacks and scavenging food a full two centuries after the war, the nonsense about vaults being social experiments, the Enclave being cartoonishly evil for no reason, etc. The stuff the author is ripping from Howey's Silo series just makes it worse. Now EVERY stable is like Vault 101 and no one can leave, but also they're social experiments that are supposed to fail, and also they're all linked together via a secret internet network that no one noticed for 200 years (?!?).
I'm still trying to work on my own FoE side story, the one in Mareida. The idea is that it takes place a few years before Littlepip ever leaves the Stable and the Enclave and Red Eye's army are significantly better equipped, the environment in Mareida being uncontrolled territory after a weather tower fell, and there being some intrigue about magical megastructures and artifacts that go back before Luna's return.
>>42603142Because Glory is one of the few genuinely good ponies in Project Horizons. She's only second to Lacunae.
>>42603348She looks almost like Appletart Longshot.
>>42603091NTA but I'm hanging trouble "handling" the fact that the story changed what it's about after the beginning. What started as a story about Aurora and her quest turned into a long-winded backstory that doesn't have a while lot to do with the actual story. A lot of characters are namedropped and we have chapter naked like Worlds Collide (a two partner!) that's about... the main trio singing for some ghouls in an irradiated town. All of this would be fine, the multi viewpoint change and all, if the damn backstory want so long winded and boring. It's like the author had a checklist of characters he needed to get through and give a role to.
>>42604148It never changed what it was about. At all.It always was 'Aurora wants to fix the stable' and she never truly deviates from it even with the side quests. Everything she does and learns is in service to that.I don't get niggers that can't handle that a fallout fic actually wants to take the time to explain things instead of just 'So some shit went down NOW BACK TO THE VIOLENCE AND RAPE'.Maybe it's just FoEniggers.
>>42604158The bits and pieces that are about Aurora remain fun to read. It's just the backstory that's dull and way too long winded. Even the characters are wooden at best. It tries to do too many things and ends up doing none of it well. There's Teak and Zecora who we know a bit about, who are then dumped to tell about how Dash made money disappear to fund projects she shouldn't because plot holes say she can't even if we're shown how it could solve the problems and she's doing the right thing. It's a combination of plot holes, dull characters, and dragging on that makes it bad. Not that it's there. The OG did that part better and kept the backstory in check for the most part.
>>42603348I didn't read Renewal, but what's wrong with vaults being experiments in the games? With or without the "doomed to fail" part. I kinda loved it. And while we're at it, what's wrong with the Enclave being the Enclave?
>>42604158Blackjack tripping over memory orbs was bad enough. Dumping non-diegetic flashbacks into your story because you really need to explain how Spitfire was blackmailing Rainbow Dash is lazy and excessive.>>42604310Maybe I've been playing too much Sonora, but I really dislike the silly/campy bits of lore that crept in around FO2 and have been propagated by Bethesda. Using vaults as social experiments is silly and illogical, even if some stories pull it off well. The Enclave being supervillans that may have dropped the bombs on Equestria themselves is silly and undermines the seriousness of the war. The war spiraling out of control because the mane six abandoned their friendships works better than "peace was possible, but a cabal of pegasi fucked everything up."Anyways, I'm on chapter 36 and still not sure where the story is going. The Steel Rangers act more like the NCR, and alternate between helping and trying to kill Aurora and her stable every other chapter. The Enclave is cast as a murderous theocracy but so far they've been helpful and empathetic to Aurora's plight. If the story ends with "ah well, the Enclave are evil gotta kill em all" I think I'll end up hating this fic.
>>42595090I'm doing the impossible challenge in remains and finally got out of the first bossDid anyone ever actually win in that?
>>42604501I am so shit at that game I can't even get to the first boss on easy
>>42604834Haven't played it much because I never have the time to cram it in, but from what I've seen, the controlling seems to be kinda tricky.
>>42605219I'm the anon who first posted, and it's not at all tricky, in fact it's pretty simple and like flash games of old even.Being a squishy lil fag on high difficulties and barely any ammo with inventory capacity and thus "living off the land" and weapons you find, switching on the go, been the highest challenge here on the max difficulty. I actually entered the boss overbearing by quite a bit since I'd have what I got
Hey look it's that character from Murky that no one remembers
>>42605707Can't remember him when you haven't read the story.
>>42606129>He hasn't read Murky
>>42606155
>>42607027God damn it, Blackjack has raided the ketchup stores again.
Alright, I'm giving up on Renewal for now. Made it chapter 37, but I'm barely halfway through the story because of how long the later chapters are.I've bitched enough about the excessive flashbacks, the contrived and conspiratorial backstory, and the inconsistent depiction of the antagonists. But one other thing that's been bugging me is how 'tech-heavy' the story is. I didn't like it in The Chrysalis, and I don't like it in Renewal. Ponies having technology powered by gems and magic spells feels more whimsical and 'fun' than just giving them modern tech. Especially if that tech is more advanced than what's depicted in the Fallout universe. Renewal asserts that Equestria has a fucking internet, that not only links every Stable ever built with each other AND the outside world, but which survived intact for CENTURIES after the bombs fell. And nopony noticed except the Enclave. Riiight...
>>42607274Well, I mean they kinda had the internet in Fallout 2 in all the Vaults as you had the Enclave monitor the progress of the experiments (anyone who thought that Bethesda started this, it's actually was started in F2 if one manages to hack the main computer on the oil rig)
>>42607274Absolute shitter. Also magic guns are a thing in Kkat's shit too, with laser weapons being literally gem-powered amongst other things.PH has numerous gem weapons and tech shit like Cognitum.
>>42607311>it's actually was started in F2That's why FO 1 will always remain the best.
>>42607354Even though F1 is pretty much a mess of scattered brained ideas and concepts, some of which don't really work or make sense. Mostly because the devs took 'em from Mad Max, Wasteland and other stuff.
>>42607313Yeah and that's fine. My point is that Renewal DIDN'T have any of that. All the weapons and electronics were explicitly non-magical. The only magic-tech in the story were some experimental stimpaks that Twilight made.
>>42607427Oh I see, I misread.Yeah that's actually a fair criticism out of everything you said.
>>42607378It's tone and pacing is still good though. It transmitted a real feeling of a post apoc wasteland. The later parts don't do that any more. FO 2 included.
Wasteland bump.
FoE should play up the animosity/stratification between races more. The Enclave already does this for the pegasi. I'd add to that unicorns usually ending up as mercs/slavers/raider bosses since they can most easily use guns and other weapons, and thus lord it over the earth ponies. On the other hand Steel Rangers should be mostly earth ponies, using power armor and robotics to compensate for their lack of flight and magic.
https://mindgame-productions.com/Fallout-themed airsoft LARP weekend is happening in Florida in NovemberMareschizos marauders gang will be showing up
>Runnin' a FoE tabletop game>party almost ate dirt to a Ranger Scribe and her Scout brother who's dying of radiation poisoning because they insisted on bumrushing an entrenched shooting position I sure hope they learn to be a little less bullheaded this week, or else the starbeast encounter is going to be very messy. At least they captured the two instead of gibbing them so I can poke the players in-character with "hey. You are not equipped to fight this thing straight up. You should be running."
>>42608718So how's the campaign going overall?
>>42608983Mixed, but well overall. >party are a bunch of fuckass slaves and their fledgling alicorn 'overlord' that was forcefully broken off from the Unity and sold to a local gang >gang boss talent scouts them all as potential assets, starts sending them out for some more ambitious grunt work >first job is to clear a decrepit casting house of pests while under escort>alicorn is almost strangled to death by a crab, ghoul gets chokeslammed by a protectron, and the giant silverfish bugs fucking style on the party for like five turns total due to godrolls, including a pair of them neo-dodging a point blank dynamite explosion>party got introduced to troggs (almost downing the ghoul again) >cleared the place, recovered a lot of raw material and an important block of data for the gang>bad: dragon player welched on every combat which caused OOC and IC friction Somehow they got the impression they'd made a completely non-combat character and I still don't really know why they thought that. Worked out eventually I guess but it got a little heated. >during the post-mission recoup the alicorn got a magic induced growth spurt to full-size as a result of a powerful artifact secured to their person so they're a Large creature now >is also currently being groomed by the gang boss as a possible successor >second mission has the party searching for an important metal shipment that was coming in the day the megaspells went off. Truck was blown sky high in a terrorist attack and contents thrown everywhere; aforementioned captured snipers are helping them hunt the stuff down in exchange for safe conduct>scribe crit the fuck out of the dragon which was pretty funny since the dragon had been hurling insults all fight >alicorn brought to 1 HP by the scout, was also knocked to Dying 2 by a later trogg encounter (that they were supposed to do first to get equipment upgrades...)Ghoul keeps missing the talk-heavy sessions which is really annoying since he's one of the more active players but oh well. It would've been nice having him around when the Rangers were being interrogated. Biggest roadblock has just been getting time to get stuff prepped and put together. Work's been kicking my ass.
>>42609264Sounds like a fun game. What system ya rollin with for it?
>>42609264>Inconveniently placed god and fail rollsAh, the classic.
>>42606155That's how it is.
it's time to reinstall good old gmod and check out the diverge foe pony server. the enclave is getting desperate for new cloudkickers...
>>42604501>Did anyone ever actually win in that? There are playthroughs on impossible difficulty, so it is definitely possible. But you need to savescum>if you don't have a safe route to any exit just save/reload>if you died or took too much damage just load an earlier save, you are not supposed to die everAnd you also should not overlevel in endgame, because enemies will scale and you will stall.
>>42606370Dude must have taken a taint bath because now he's fucking HUGE
>>42609979It's not taint, it's poison joke.
>>42610010Wouldn't poison joke do something like this instead
>>42610149Only if it's some kind of twisted joke.
>>42609568Pathfinder 2e with a healthy dose of homebrew and 3rd party Ponyfinder rules. It... works. The guns are all from one of the player's own attempt to run a pony game set in New Vegas; I went in and nerfed a lot of the automatics and toned a couple of other things down, but it's worked out so far. I also added a DT/DR mechanic to armor to make things a bit less lethal for the PCs and cooked up some extra weather rules since storms and stuff are a big deal in the local area, but those haven't come up much yet. >>42609742It has been SO swingy, bro. >party ambles into Sniper Alley>find a set of troggs sleeping on top of their last meal (a pair of ponies just trying to get high and snog in private) >rogue player is away for this game so I have their PC throw a road flare, since the party was informed earlier that troggs hate bright light>this one action basically disables half the pack due to failed CON saves and the fight is a complete steamroll>Trogg encounter 2, party sets up a killzone but no one flares and also the troggs roll like God while the party is just trying to roll above 10>Alicorn goes to 0, starts dying>another PC in single digits>Diamond Dog tanking hits like they're Senator Armstrong due to the DT rules + rock armorThey made it, but what a mess. The diamond dog has probably been the most consistent MVP. They were the one to tackle and eventually restrain the sniper during that particular shootout, and their tunneling ability was how the party finally managed to approach the building in the first place (although I realized yesterday I forgot to have them actually maintain the grapple).
>>42610206>Diamond Dog tanking hits like they're Senator ArmstrongKek.
Project Horizons is dogshit. Don't get me wrong, it had a solid start. But I bailed after we started gettting all those obnoxious anime scene inserts. And Blackjack has the most horrendous of PO OC Mary Sueism I've ever seen.I have a first run book set of the original story and Pink Eyes. I loved Heroes. And Murky is amazing! But PH just turns into a giant mess and I loathe it.
>>42610253Damn you autocorrect."horrendous case of OP OC Mary Sueism"
>>42610206Ah, I was thinking of running one by either using the d100/d10 Overmare version or using the 2D20 one.
>>42610264>d100/d10 Overmare versionNot familiar with that one. You happen to have a link or something? >the 2D20 oneYou mean the official one Bethesda licensed? From what I've gathered on /tg/ it seems mostly geared toward replicating the FO4 loop of gathering junk to turn into convert into resources (and also that they intentionally bifurcated it into two books so they could charge you twice). I think you'd need a pretty specific kind of campaign in mind to make any use out of it.
During the FoE panel at MF I remember one of the panelists talking about a popular Minecraft mod with a bunch of FoE references in it? I was ridiculously hungover and didn't catch the name of it, does anyone know what mod he was talking about?
>>42610287>Not familiar with that one. You happen to have a link or something?I think one person here did upload some of the books here, but I can toss one in if you need it.>You mean the official one Bethesda licensed? Ye that one, though I wouldn't say it replicates FO4, the crafting mechanic is present but it's mostly for like adding mods to your weapons. Heck, I did run one game and the scavenging stuff wasn't super huge (the PC's just would sell some junk they would find for money or trade for items)
>>42609965>SavescummingThen you might as well not apply the ironman modeNot gonna lie, dying to a rat sucked, after a surprise swarm in a small hole, but that's the gameI did not know that enemies scaled with your level though, thought it was with how deep in the "dungeon" you were. In that case finding a safe path to the exit instead of returning to base and then restarting Yes, I count using rune of return and quitting fair as if trying another entrance, but not just quitting mid way could work better, as you'd be deeper in and all
>>42610253I thought everyone agreed that Project Horizons goes to shit, the question is which chapter to stop reading at
>>42610365I'm still sad about Daisy
more Murk
>>42610253>the most horrendous of PO OC Mary Sueism I've ever seenThat's because ist's literally her talent.
>>42610416I'm not. 99 got what it deserved.
>>42610798Must be from after I stopped reading. Figures the author would just make it part of the story. To each their own, but I swear PH is like Sonic level fanfiction (something else I have never read).
>>42610929>Must be from after I stopped reading.Yeah. It was in one of the last chapters. That's where Dealer describes the true double edged sword meaning of her card mark.
I'm gonna go out on a limb and say that FoE has the best depiction of the Enclave in any Fallout media.
>>42611114Agreed and KKat was a genius for how the Pegasi became them. Made them even bigger jerks given what closing off the sky did to everyone else.
>>42611114It's a neat idea, but>200 yearsis just too long. It's the same problem as FO4.
>>42611114What does it mean to depict the Enclave well? What is the Enclave?I mean, horsies aside, it's hard enough for me to think of the F2 Enclave and NV Remnants as two perspectives on something singular, as opposed to two entirely unrelated things. And then there's F3 Enclave and the only thing I remember about these faggots is they sorta existed.
>>42611114I guess so. Their worldbuilding was pretty solid.
>>42611114I gotta agree they're still evil bastards but feels like more a real faction that could exist than what F2 presented which was a bit bland, they not even bringing up Bethesda's shit but you can't really say they 'ruined' them really because there wasn't any depth to ruin.PH's Enclave stuff sucked total ass though.
>>42611177>F2 Enclave and NV Remnants as two perspectives on something singular, as opposed to two entirely unrelated thingsRemnants are basically Enclave how it was perceived (often justified 'MURRICA faction that actually advances technologically and socially instead of stagnating like everyone else), as opposed to Enclave how it was written (cartoonishly evil and comically inept see: Dornan villains wanting to murder everyone, straight from a lefty propaganda piece from 30 years ahead). So yeah, the only related thing is their aesthetics.>and the only thing I remember about these faggots is they sorta existedEvil Bad Technologically Advanced Faction That You Can Only Join If Cartoonishly Evil. With "brand" ideas copycatted exactly from F2. Also Colonel Autumn is straight from F3 Enclave. Also "Brotherhood of Steel" in F4 is basically Canon-Enclave-in-BoS-paint.>>42611922PH's Enclave aligns perfectly with the canon depiction. They absolutely would unleash an engineered raider plague and they absolutely would be stupid enough to do it with prions that can't be properly decontaminated.
I always saw the Enclave as just Yank patriotism jacked up to 11 and thus why they're so dumb with their views of the world and their ideas.
>>42611946You didn't read far enough into PH to get to the chapters where they visit the Enclave themselves to get my critique it seems. I'm talking about how he characterizes the Enclave or how he (decides that Rainbow Dash would want to 'reform the Enclave from within' instead of tearing it all down because they ideologically stand against everything she wanted and the Proto-Enclave tried to assassinate her because of that, at least twice.) which is probably the second biggest M6 character assassination he did not including everything he did with Rarity (but at least with that one that made her more interesting being more willing to do fucked up stuff because FoE Rarity was kind of stupid and boring).
>>42612070>the second biggest M6 character assassination he didOh, you haven't seen half of it as it seems. He literally assassinated Rainbow Dash by killing her in the story.
>>42610348>Then you might as well not apply the ironman modeThis game is not designed around the ironman mode at all, so tbqh no one should apply it.The ironman mode should allow you to retreat if you understand that you can't win this fight, and Remains explicitly locks you in the room until the battle is over (that is, until you are dead). And on top of this there are many rooms/puzzles that just throw a shitton of enemies/traps on you, so if you don't know it in advance you will die no matter what your skill is.
>>42610929>Power armored deathclawThis must be the evolutionary answer to Frank Horrigan.
Fallout 2 is a meme game, now I will finally play it as Black Isle intended
>>42612408Honestly kinda nuts that a mod like this exists
>>42612348Blame the intelligent deathclaws.
>>42612468This is a really cute mod. Pip does a little spin kick for melee and uses telekinesis for spears and stuff. Figure I'll start as unarmed and then spec into small guns after a few levels.Too bad there's not more pony mods for classic Fallout. A Blackjack model would be fun to play with
>>42612540I wish this would exist for FO1.
>>42612562It should work just fine if you're using Fallout Et Tu to play it.
>>42612578>Fallout Et TuWhat's that?
>>42611946Sorry, it still makes no sense.I think of the F2 Enclave as a somewhat cynical but not inaccurate representation of the abstract idea of a government: out of touch and entitled, therefore cruel to an often surprising extent, and extremely secretive because deep down they know they're in the wrong. No, none of it is specific for burgerlands, it's a universal reoccuring structure. No, a man doesn't need "lefty propaganda" to despise himself for cooperating with governments and seek answers in art. In this context, what would it mean for the GPE to be a better depiction of anything? What qualities do we compare? The GPE is more nuanced. Is more nuanced always better? They are out of touch and entitled, but they don't feel like a government, or even a wannabe government. They're their own thing. The F3 guys have the same motifs, but are additionally blind to the difference between a man and a machine. In Aumun's case, willingly blind. I don't know if it was meant to imply implications or Bethesda just wanted to make them double niggers by piling up random details. I don't know if the GPE does it, or anything like it, better. I don't think it should. In NV governance was dissected differently: now there are two orthogonally corrupt systems, one soulful but spiritually rotten and the other soulless but full of spirit. The Enclave survivors are relegated to represent the entirely different idea of, salvaging a bad situation, maybe? Keeping going after a defeat? Healing? And in the end, being purpose junkies. The GPE ponies are good at it, all of it. Better? I don't know. A healing pony is inherently twice as cute as a healing human, but that's cheating.I still have to play F4 some day.
>>42612620https://github.com/rotators/Fo1in2Engine conversion + extra features
>>42612669Neat, I didn't know this was a thing.
>>42612297Then it's not a "impossible" challenge anymore if you're squirting around the rules, is it?I think the mode should allow you to use items like sparkle cola and rune of return in a fight, though have you still take damage during the animation in the latter, so if you die you still die, but you can emergency exit, per se. You can use stealthbucks, but you still need to lose the enemies for a blink before retreating. With the way enemies are stuck in a room, I can understand why you'd be stuck in it as well, doesn't mean I like it, but I understand.

Started reading Project Horizons again (ch. 26), against my better judgement. Critics are right, the setting gets so outlandish that it doesn't really feel like 'Fallout' at times. The body horror shit was tough to read, and I know it'll only get worse. But god damn the characters and their interactions are so endearing and fun to read. Someone give P-21 a hug and a full time therapist please
>>42617290>PriestOh man.

The memory orbs in PH have gotten aggravating. On chapter 53. A big part of my enjoyment in the original FoE was slowly unraveling what happened to the ministry mares and learning about the past. I liked how it was drip-fed to the reader, leaving (me at least) them wanting more. I also enjoyed how the flashbacks weren't always in memory orb form, sometimes audio logs, like with Diamond Tiara, or terminals. PH seemed to have done this a little bit earlier on, but now its like every character just shits out memory orbs or they get found around every corner. I audibly groan when one happens, they have totally lost their allure. On occasion I find one interesting, but fuck this story has started to drag. I do quite like the main cast, and learning about Rampage is about the only flashback stuff I enjoy.
>>42617307>it's halfway there, right?I mean, she does eventually cure him from life.

>>42603091Wtf is Renewal and what makes it so different from base FOE?
>>42625567Imagine Fallout Equestria but well-written and grounded far more in reality.i.e; you can't just chug Radaway like it's orange juice and get rid of your radiation like in the games. The main ponies have to suffer through days of puking themselves stupid as it takes a toll on their bodies to rid them of radiation sickness. As an example. It's also not as guns blazing action kill everyone and more character focused in terms of the actual journey, which might not be to some people's tastes but the overall story is better structured than what Kkat had going on.
>>42625578>Imagine Fallout Equestria but well-written and grounded far more in reality. If you say so. I lost all interest at the tldr of it.
>>42625578Ok but whats actually different? marking it as "well-written and grounded far more in reality" is a really bad way to sell the fic your trying to simp for, especially since who the fuck comes to FOE a MLP fallout crossover for a "grounded far more in reality" experience, also the Radaway example doesn't sell me on it since most of FOEs tech is arcane tech, fuck man Radaway is a form of healing potion so why should I care that Renewal makes Radaway's "more grounded"
>>42625729Radaway is most likely a form of healing potion*
>>42625578Yeah and that sucks.Renewal is well written but it isn't 'fun.' There's no 'Blackjack in a bathtub' scene, or moments like >>42625699. The fic is so bogged down with exposition, flashbacks and internal monologues that it's a massive chore to read through.I managed to drag myself through Chapter 40, and there's a scene where Rainbow Dash's life flashes before her eyes. There's a paragraph that describes how she was living paycheck-to-paycheck, struggling to pay her rent as a weather pony before she met Twilight and her friends. And I'm just like, why? WHY do we need that detail here? In a FALLOUT EQUESTRIA story??It's terribly ironic that the main villain's (vague and nonsensical) motivation is to 'rid Equestria of all magic.' Because this is the least magical pony story I've ever read.
>>42625729It's a perfect way to sell the fic, what do you mean? If you can't be fucked to even read the first chapter to get a taste then I can't help you.https://www.fimfiction.net/story/440269/fallout-equestria-renewalReading that first chapter, the writing style is such that I was hooked almost instantly. A good story makes the reader want to read on and this one does that.>>42625740>Why do we need exposition in a Fallout fic that details the divergence from the Holy Canon of KkatGee, I wonder. We learn about Dash because it's flavour to the story?
>>42625744>It's a perfect way to sell the fic, what do you mean?No its a terrible one, Kkat FOE is a Nobledark Sci-Fantasy with cool arcane tech and world building, despite praising it and saying it does everything better then what Kkat originally wrote you have not once got into the fics worldbuilding and try and sell it to be better then the original fic, also more onto the Radaway argument and why its retarded, if Renewal was a normal fallout fic and not a FOE fic then I would actually be somewhat interested on what you said because finally a realistic take on Fallouts chems, but Renewal isn't a normal fallout fic its a FOE fic and FOE is a setting with actual magic compared to Fallouts atompunk sci-fi, so the unrealistic parts of fallout like the medicine, tech, ghouls and overall handling of radiation are waved away in FOE by just being magic, Afterall the ghouls in FOE are actual zombies explained by the fact that Balefire radiation is necromantic in nature, so no I wouldn't care or be sold on by a FOE being more "grounded and realistic" because this is a setting with ponies in magical power armor fighting each to the death as a cool ass Cyborg Dragon reigns chaos in the background.
>>42625809Eh, bully for you I guess. It's probably the best way to sell it is that it's more Fallout than pony, which appeals immensely to me.Even has proper Deathclaws and not the shitty Diamond Dog replacements.
I think FoE needs more mechaI remember reading somewhere that the zebras were more technologically advanced because they lacked magic
>>42625744>>42625815It'd be excusable if it was good, but the backstory is still riddled with contrivances and plot holes. The mid-story reveal that Cozy Glow and the Enclave deliberately nuked the world because they 'hated magic' or whatever was absolutely ridiculous and completely unjustified. The apocalypse happens because a single late-season meme villain wants it to. I'll still read this fic to the end, but that bit completely broke my interest in the story.
>>42625848Cozy Glow is a cunt in the first place, I thought it was a perfectly fine way to get around to how the world was nuked without relying on the common idea that it was the zebras, and it ties in very nicely with the ruling of the Enclave.
>>42625853It's an adequate premise executed very poorly. Equestria was winning the war, wasn't really damaged or hurting for resources and the zebras didn't have balefire. What possible justification would she and other ponies have for deliberately destroying the world?
>>42625914Because the Golly Loli is a seething retard the same as she is in the show. That was simply transplanted over and given a whole bunch more steam.I liked it.
>>42595516Are you talking about Murky?
>>42625809It's funny how the addition of cartoon pony magic actually made Fallout lore more coherent, not less
I had a dream that this liquor store guy that makes youtube shorts kept sublty putting fallout equestria references in his lines and then I met him and asked him about it and he smiled at me and said "go fish" and walked away.
Alright, I'm done with Renewal. Skipped ahead to the ending and it was pretty good, I guess. If only it didn't take a MILLION words to get there! Not gonna bitch any more, I'll just say that it's a competent, long-winded science fiction story that incorporates some of the worst ideas from late-season FiM, Fallout, and the Silo novel series.I'd probably recommend it to anyone who doesn't like Fallout Equestria, or who read the original fics years ago and doesn't remember them well.
>>42626689The mare is pretty hot at least.
>>42626471kek
>>42624018He looks shit even as a pony.
>>42625740The Enclave hating magic is the most retarded thing I have ever heard.
>>42626374Who's that?
>>42625699R O U N D
>>42625578>but well-writtenAs >>42625740 points out, being well-written technique-wise does not preclude something from being bad.And it cannot redeem a bad story, the same way perfectly rendering an image won't fix bad composition, perfectly carving wood won't fix bad stock, and perfectly cooking a meal won't fix having used spoiled or poisonous ingredients. >haberverse >crazy glue >enclave that is more cartoonishly evil than EITHER of the sources>and grounded far more in realityReality is shit, why would I want something built on shit foundations?>As an example. So it's a fic written by an egotistic autistic who can't comprehend emotions and imagination, and thinks that quality begins and ends with em dashes and all commas in rightful places, got it.It also evidently as much of a Fallout fic as it is a pony fic: managing to miss the point for the superficial impressions, mangling them in the process.>>42625815>more Fallout than ponyBy your description it's Bethesda brand "fallout".>>42625744>We learn about Dash because it's flavour to the story?>the fic is one-and-a-half times longer than the one it riffs off>british spellingMethinks it's not flavor, it's filler, and the fic needed an editor with execution rights far more than Kkat's.
>>42626689It's good that you gave it a go in any case.>>42628380>All those wordsBut to address one point, it's more a mix of old-school Fallout to me which is why I like it so much, more Fallout 2 with the Vault experiments being intact.
>>42628387>old-school Fallout>haberverse/g5-tier villain motivation
>>42628402It's almost like you can mix concepts. Shocker.
>>42628405Spoonful of tar, anon.
>>42628380P.S.>Enclave hates magicThen either they're suicidal (because they fly with magic, canonically too - every time FiM shows complete loss of magic, pegasi drop out of the sky) or are not ponies (either 90% of their mass is in huge wings and keel to enable physical flight, or they are flying with technology) or the writer can't keep himself consistent. Even the canonical cardboard-cutout-of-innocent-looking-villain-trope had better motivation than this as she wanted to deny magic to everyone else, not to herself.>flavour to the storyIt's only flavor if it actually serves the story. Exposition of Trixie as a prostitute works for PH, because it elaborates on her motivations and character. How does directly-contradicting-canon "Dash was barely trudging along" help her character as it pertains to the fic itself? If it doesn't, then it belongs in the appendices at best.>Cozy GlowGoldenblood is one of the most contentuous parts of Project Horizons specifically because of "AKSHUALLY he was behind everything". Replacing him with canon "character" and "AKSHUALLY the nukes weren't a tragically unavoidable consequence of everyone's beliefs and actions, but the fault of a single retard" fallout 4 morons in a basement AI.txt does not make it any better. In fact, it makes it considerably worse! If fucking KKAT AND SOMBER manage to write a convincing narrative that the nukes were inevitable because of a series of misunderstandings and mistakes by many different characters, then (You) elbowdeep has no fucking excuse!>>42625815>proper deathclawsDeathclaws in Equestria are far less proper than Sand Dogs (and PH's "sentient Deathclaws" a.k.a. Cyberdogs). Because it's Equestria, not America. There isn't US Government, there aren't Jackson's chameleons to serve as a base, there isn't motivation to develop cheap, disposable, highly dangerous infantry because Equestria is winning, not losing - and even if there was, there are more suitable species to modify.
>>42628449>KKAT AND SOMBER manage to write a convincing narrativeNTA and I'm not defending Renewal, but come on. Kkat's version is something something coal, then Littlehorn happened for no reason, then everybody died. It isn't a convincing self-contained story by any measure. I would even say it was intentionally designed to be frustratingly unconvincing: Pip is refused the big picture, just like she's refused a full set of the Elements for the Garden. Fuck you, Pip, casual dumpster diving doesn't make you a real historian, somebody else will figure it out. And Somber's, I don't remember much from this protracted trainwreck but it was either Luna refusing to step down or stars doing schizo shit for the evilz. This version about inevitable doom that wasn't anybody's fault is purely your own artistic vision.
>>42628615>Kkat>war started over resources but then went ideological because zebras believe Luna to be LITERALLY SATAN (hence Littlehorn Massacre), Celestia was too ignorant to know it, and her abdicating to Luna turned a winnable war into one of complete genocide as zebras would NOT surrender from then on because for them it became "either we die fighting, or we and everyone else dies anyway to LITERALLY SATAN">zebras then went more and more Unit 731 with their weapons, the war was more or less even, but then Fluttershy had to be a naive retard, demonstrating a healing megaspell that caused more casualties as everyone went right back to fighting each other instead of stopping (but saving Steelhooves in the process), then nobody had the sense to throw her in jail and accelerate the war as the zebras clearly would begin reverse-engineering the megaspell, and she went and gave zebras the tech herself, thus expediting the apocalypse (and causing Canterlot, consequently Luna's death and Celestia ending up in SPP and Trixie being blocked from accessing the Black Book stored there by the Cloud)i.e. Fluttershy being Fluttershy, Celestia being Celestia, no bullshit nonsense with haberverse retards existing solely to kill them all.>Somber>the same as above, except Goldenblood and Amadi orchestrated many of the events on Equestria side, the bullshit about meteors and stars is real instead of a retarded superstition it is in FoE proper, but the LITERALLY SATAN isn't (quite) Luna, it's Blackjack, and she isn't even there to destroy anything, she's there to stop Amadi once and for all>also Amadi was directly responsible for Littlehorn and Canterlot as he's the one who made the Pink Cloud spell
>>42628661And the point of Renewal is to diverge from all that 'canon' as it's extremely constraining.Golly loli was one of the later seasons more decent points and an actual villain unlike Discord, so using her as the big bad and getting her to wipe out magic so that she can rule is a perfectly fine continuation of her general character. Golly is acting like Golly.
>>42628684>Golly loli was one of the later seasons more decent pointsThank you for admitting that you are, in fact, clinically retarded. You do not have to patricipate in the discussion any longer because you have nothing beneficial to contribute.
>>42628733>opinionK, fag.
My suspension of disbelief broke at the SOLUS reveal when it became clear we weren't getting any justification for the villain's actions besides "unicorn magic sucks." Plus the way the bombing took place was rather illogical. It's ironically the same problem with the Silo novels: the villain's motivations were vague nonsense, and the premise of the story got more ridiculous the more it was explained. Maybe the lesson here is not to fixate on the past: nobody cares who fired the first nuke in Fallout, the war should be a backdrop to current events and not the focus. >>42628684I was surprised the fic didn't use more from the later seasons. Aside from Cozy there was like one kirin character, and Gallus got a cameo, and that was it. How is it not 'constraining' when the story introduces a place like the Crystal Empire, does nothing with it, and then has it completely destroyed?
>>42628753Like you said, the past is only fixated on in certain instances so I assume the Crystal Empire is just brief point in time that we pass over for the story beats, no constraints to tie the story to it specifically beyond its use as a stepping stone.Seems pretty straight forward to me.
>>42628449>Goldenblood is one of the most contentuous parts of Project Horizons specifically because of "AKSHUALLY he was behind everything". Replacing him with canon "character" and "AKSHUALLY the nukes weren't a tragically unavoidable consequence of everyone's beliefs and actions, but the fault of a single retard"Unironically this, making the war and the last day the result of a single dude is retarded, because you remove all of the tragedy from the conflict with the domino effect of bad decisions being responded poorly with it all being tragically avoidable. >>42628684>Golly loli was one of the later seasons more decent points and an actual villain unlike Discord, so using her as the big bad and getting her to wipe out magic so that she can rule is a perfectly fine continuation of her general character. Golly is acting like Golly.Ok but Cozy Glow didn't hate or want to destroy magic she wanted the be the ONLY pony in Equestria with magic, she wanted all of the magic in Equestria for herself she is quite literally pic related
>>42628773And she technically did that through her actions. She was one of the only ponies able to access magic in the form of dreaming since Luna was dead, other than the one Zebra that was locked up below Mariposa, and until Ginger and Aurora got hit with the few Stimpaks the slaver bitch had, only she really had access to that realm. So I'd say she was pretty successful on both destroying magic for everypony else and having the rest of it for herself given that she horded just about every Stimpak that she could.
>>42628684>Golly loli was one of the later seasons more decent pointsMandatory response. I hope you're baiting.
What FoE fic has the most crossovers/references to other pics? And is it any good?
>>42628761I guessNow that I think about it, the word count and pacing made me lose interest more than the plot. The later chapters doubling and then tripling in size was just intolerable. I skipped like five chapters to read the end and didn't feel like I missed a thing because the finale kept reiterating events that had already happened!I was kinda excited to read the sequel to Renewal since it's actively being worked on but if it's as slow-paced as this fic, then count me out.

https://www.fimfiction.net/story/455147/fallout-equestria-martingale-fairytaleThis looks like an interesting fic
During the FoE panel at mare fair, some anime-opening-esque SFM video was being played until they skipped it since the sound was broken. Does anyone know the video I'm talking about?
So, if youd throw Pip or BJ into the Dust mod from New Vegas, how high chances of it fucking them mentally
>>42638278>>42638291Would.
>>42628661The funniest thing about the whole thing with PH is that the original FoE made is abundantly clear that the Zebra's religion was false and Star Metal didn't do nothing and Pip's adventures as written could not happen in PH because Calamity and Pip both fucking carry Star Metal in their mouth and are completely fine. And people were trying to argue that PH was 'entirely canon to FoE' back in the day despite the entire conceit of it's lore being a retcon.
>>42639414I think Horizons had two different types of Star Metal. You had the think 'normal' one that BJ's sword was made out that reacted and changed to strong souls. Then the Tokomare/Eaters Starmetal that Dawn and the Legate were encased with that was weak to moon rock because the moon is made of souls apparently.
>>42610313Yer talkin about HBM nuclear tech, its got balefire and shit(Am one of thems panelists)
>>42639466>twoMore, one per star. The sword is explicitly made from starmetal of a different star than the Eater. That said, considering when the explanation happens, it's a blatant attempt to plug the plot hole when someone pointed out the contradiction, rather than something intended.>>42639414Only Eater's starmetal does the soul sucking/Enervation bullshit because it's the Eater doing it, it's not a property of starmetal itself. Remember the post-timeskip events? Eater/Amadi explicitly intended to turn off Enervation in Hoofington proper so that ponies would flee into it, then ramp it up to max to melt them.>And people were trying to argue that PH was 'entirely canon to FoE' back in the dayHey, it's considerably more canon to FoE than The Fossil despite the latter advertising "canonicity" right in the description.>>42639501>>42610313Balefire and other FoE references complete with accidental reference to The Fossil (that it tried to go back on and pretend that balefire is antimatter), basic bitch anime references (Code Geass) tranny shit to the point of estrogen that changes your player model, and about a 1000 block IDs taken because HBM is a lazy ass who refuses to put shit like concrete variants into one ID or port metaTEs from GT so that the machines would occupy 3 IDs single block, multiblock dumb, multiblock interactive instead of 300 (yes, literally).
>>42633116Oh no, what are you doing nowAlso, rampage is best mare. You cant change my mind.>>42638998 https://youtu.be/kTrUsOI1ZrY
>>42639510Id still say HBM is worth a casual glance. Many mod authors are shit, tbf

>>42639729Ofcourse! Shes so kewt
>>42639510P.S. Also ultra-retarded not-fluid system that is an enum but with Blackjack the hooker, because HBM is a retard.>>42639557Casual glance, yes, but don't get invested. The forks might've solved the issues, but likely did not.

Why are stable mares so enthranced by pegasi anyway?
>>42640303Imagine living without the sky for generations, to the point where your culture doesn't remember the name for this empty place in your soul anymore. And then you meet somebody who's both woven of sky and molded by it. It's exactly the same dynamics as humans falling in love with unicorns our magic was sealed away when de Respour invented zinc.
>>42640303It's the wings, mate.
>>42640303If Littlepip wasn't gay, after a bit she'd have fallen for such a rare breed herself
>>42640967I don't get the image either. Does it imply Pegasi are fuckign sex gods?
Why does Myron have SO much voiced dialogue? Someone put way too much effort into this prick
>>42641214Only the stable ponies being stereotyped as crazy for pegasi on the comic, but it does seem like most stable mares in FoE do fall for pegafolk and I love that tbqh, a rare gem to find in the wastes and all, able to leave everything being with a beat of their wings and bring you along to safe heavens
>>42641501Was also meant as a reply to >>42640303 in the spoiler for what I think could be
>>42641224Myron looks weird
>>42641224He's a little shit. Always has been, always will be. But he doesn't hold a candle in comparison to the bitch in Vault City.
>>42641501>>42640967To be fair, Pip x Calamity would have been the better option. So there's that.
>>42641224Lil Pip became overmare. Chaos ensued.
Ended up killing Bishop with super stims after delivering the briefcase. I guess it would have been more in character for Pip to assassinate Westin and align with NCR, but becoming a 'made man' (mare) seems out of character as well. New Reno is such a dumb location for a Fallout game.
>>42642002Ironically, they cut out a lot of material from New Reno. Also, mobster LilPip sounds awesome.
>>42642002>>42642069I never understood why you lose karma in FO2 for killing mobsters. You're taking out gang goons and are somehow the bad guy for it.
>>42642191Blame Avellone, who wanted to have this crap. He was really set on the Karma system, plus I guess wanting some sort of mobster honor shit?
>>42642268I don't know. Mobsters and honor are words that don't go together in my book.
>>42642407They usually don't. But that's what Avellone wanted to do here.
>>42641214They're just exotic. A lot of surface dwellers have never encountered one and for stable dwellers in particular I figure they're practically elves. >I am now just realizing my personal OC also fell for a pegasus >and then a thestralI mean the joke was he was a wing guy but still.
>>42642695To be fair, Anons tend to have a soft spot for them too.
Time for endgame. I left Velvet and Calamity (Vic and Cassidy) in safety and took the B-team to fight the tanker bullshit room. No surprise, Goris and Sulik died horribly. But hey, at least the boat is fueled and ready to go.Also upgraded Pip to a gauss rifle, which I think she would approve of.
>>42643307How do you keep companions alive at all? The ones I had always managed to get themselves killed a few encounters down the road.
Another anticlimax ending. Got the Salvatore end screen for New Reno so I guess my caption >>42642002 is true LOL>>42643625Give them decent armor, guns and stims and savescum shitty encounters, I guess. Having a sniper crit build helped a lot at thinning out the enemies. Marcus rolled that room with his minigun on my last character but Pip gave him a flamer and he bugged out and died fighting raiders.
>>42595090Her magic is white retard.
>>42610365Fuck you it's a good story. It never went to shit but your brains did.
>>42643892You might be the first person I've heard heard NOT agree that it went to shit like 30 chapters in.
>>42643928Dude I'm the first actual person you've talked to online. Here's a hint if there's an "official" narrative and the anon you're speaking to is parroting it, that anon is a bot. 100% of the time. You will never find an exception to this rule. Why would anyone still be bitching about it to this day over a decade later? They would not!
Littlepip is a mean, harsh pony. If you're her enemy she would kill your dog in front of you and then when you're crying about it she would shoot you in the back of the head.
I am going to be dumb and tease that I've spent a year planning a story involving a protag from Arbu, here's a tease of her cause why not.
>>42643991Plap this mare NOW
>>42643984She sounds cool. Also, you forgot shes tiny and cuddly.
>>42643991>protag from ArbuUh oh. This can't end good.
>>42643749God, I remember how I struggled in the late game. It was an unpleasant pain in the ass.
>>42643976That's false, there was unanimous agreement irl about PH going to shit at the FoE MF panel. If anyone thought otherwise no one spoke up. If you liked it that's fine, just know that's certainly not the norm.
>>42644728Combat balance is pretty jank. You can feel how rushed and uncoordinated the game's development was, lots of ideas thrown together that don't exactly make sense. My own pet peeve is the recolored 'upgraded' items and armors, and the new guns that are mostly weird prototypes that you'd see on 90s History Channel specials. My impossible hope is that someone makes a FO2 mod that tightens it up, removes some of the jank and nonsense and makes it more like Sonora. That mod is like the gold standard for good classic Fallout modding.
>>42644876I believe recently a mod came out, that basically brings back a lot of cut content from F2
>>42645025The Restoration Project? Seems like a mixed bag of stuff IMO.

>>42646715Several areas that are just pointless and just there for exploration, and some quests that don't add much to the overall story, a few locations that are just dungeon crawls. >>42650499Blackjack did not change her mentality even after leaving the stable
>>42650700It did change to a degree. Blackjack understands 99 was a bad place, but she also openly acknowledges that her own worldviews are fucked because of her time in this hole.
>>42648758>>42648769Why does a talent for playing cards mean she is doomed to suffer?
>>42643892It's really not a "good" story, but if you enjoyed it, then more power to you.

>>42651629There's a reason for that, but fair.
>>42652014>>42651667It's just really off-putting how the setting (i.e. the author) keeps putting Blackjack in these horrible situations while she begs the reader for it to stop. Dude is a schizo or a sadist or something.Like, reading FoE I was mad at the characters for acting so stupidly. Reading PH I'm mad at Somber for torturing the protagonists so much.
>>42652338Yea she deserves the suffering, but she also deserved a break after going through such a colossal hell. Shame Somber's idea of finally giving her a break is to let Heartshine turn her into a complete groomer.

>>42655003I'm built different, AnonI'm like a chosen one type dudeI could survive it I think
Hi Anon! I am working on a hassenfeld-pony fanfic with Fo:E characters. How would you imagine a Littlepip or a Blackjack in Human Earth? As a company or what'd be their attitude to the place?
>>42657205>A bullet happy lesbian and a perma depressed drinkerThey'd fit right in!
>>42657231I have no doubt on that! LolI haven't read a story with a BJ yet, but a friend of mine had a story with a 'Pip. I found it disturbing the 'Pip was a jerk to her human wihtout any reason. I mean she knew she was a Hassenfelt pony, but believed absolutly in Fo:E lore, too. And she was pissed she sacrificed herself to live with an Anon as a "reward" and she beat her frustration on Anon. The got better in term later in the story, but that 'Pip is not a pleasurable company to say a least. I wondered Anon didn't send it back. So I want to write a correction fic - more or less. But with a Blackjack instead. It doesn't prevent to meet a 'Pip and other familiar canon ponies on the way. I am working on the sketch.
>>42657249>but that 'Pip is not a pleasurable company to say a leastI can imagine. If she's buying into the FoE lore she isn't even interested in males at all. That setup must suck a lot for her.
>>42656378>Shooting BJThe rite of passage to become her friend.
>>42656378Who's that zebra?Hi mistermech
>>42657785Not him. Also zebra is is named Xenith, apparently BJ meets her in PH. An she believes the dumb whiskey horse cursed her and she also shot BJ
>>42657381Well, yeah I can understand that, but it doesn't mean she couldn't be his friend. It isn't mandatory Anon gotta score everypony, but they can be his true companion. My main issue with the fic was that thought their reletionship got better, but Pip comes across as passively tolerate his presence. In spite of hardships they went to together. For example Pip clearly doesn't like speding time with him. And do things on her own instead or go out with her own friends. Kinda estranged. Nontheless she saves his ass everytime: Pip has her wastland experiencies, Anon is just an everyman. For example she must drag him away of security bots before got zipped as he isn't on the ball at all. I didn't like the end because they didn't become friends - or maybe, but it was odd-ball example.
>>42657885That's Xanthe, not Xenith. Xenith is Pip's Fist of the North Zeeb friend, though Blackjack befriends her too.

So was Blackjack (she's 22 4 years later), they're roughly the same age and the number does not correspond to years (the flashbacks show that at least one year there's been three advancements). Yes, he conceived Scotch Tape at 6/3 years old.Or you can de-retardify by making it exactly years so that P-21 is ~33, give or take a year depending on when he entered the queue, and so is Blackjack.
Gin Rummy's hot and all, but what do you guys think BJ's dad was like?

The flashbacks in Project Horizons are pretty good when they don't involve Goldenblood hacking up a lungRIP Prince Vanity :(
>>42666136I'm mainly annoyed that Kkat didn't do it because kat said it would have involved giving Homage way more characterization and scenes with the rest of the cast. We never really got to see her interact with the others despite her going on to be an element.

>>42671790>>42671839>>42672439Remains is actually quite easy (on Normal and below), but it has a game philosophy similar to Dark Souls where some parts are specifically designed to kill your character when you first face them. Also it has weird balance where some skills and perks are mandatory in every build:>Lockpicking, Science - you will not get any loot without them>Medicine - healing penalty is huge without it, also you need it to use non-potion healing items>Survival - necessary for damage/defence scaling with permanent potions>Military anatomy - most of the enemies are equine, especially in late game>Scavenger - necessary to get weapon fragments and repair for freeAnd, obviously, even if you don't use magic for combat you still need to learn defensive spells. The enemies are designed to treat you as having a magic shield in mid game and temporary invulnerability in late game.
>>42672995Skinner, please.

>>42669995LMAO that sums up the mess that is PH in a single picture.
>>42669792That would be a hard act to follow though. Kkat was a genius at melding the worlds of Fallout and MLP: FIM.For example: the fact that Stables were designed to save ponies rather than be immoral experiments like the Vaults. Everything is somehow more tragic because of how pure the world was before. Or the tragedy of everything Fluttershy tried to do.>Pic relatedAnd trying to follow up your own masterpiece doesn't seem like something a smart pony would do if they weren't sure they could do it justice. That said, it would have been awesome.
>>42674009You can do it! Channel that inner Rarity!
>>42674299Following up on the most famous fic would have been a real challenge, but there were still quite a few characters that had room for a lot of development and fleshing out. Homage, Xenith, and LifeBloom all being practically absent for most of the fic, and Steelhooves dying right as he was getting interesting were all big time flaws that could have been corrected through flashbacks.
>>42674636>SteelhoovesWhat happened to him was a fuckinh tragedy. I liked the guy.
>>42674636You aren't wrong, but at the same time it gives a bit of realism to the story. I know it's an odd thing to say, given its a story about magical ponies who nuked themselves into the apocolypse, but there's a certain amount of disbelief that the audience can give something. If you want to get them to embrace the world, you need to treat everything else seriously.Having characters that leave you wanting more is a great way to do that. Like little mysteries that never get answered. In gives the story life.
>>42674636steelhooves dying just as he was starting to walk in aj's hoofsteps was one of my favorite parts, it completely broke me emotionally the first time I read it but it was a perfect thing to do to shift into the last arc of the fic imo, it set the tone perfectly
>>42675196Huh. He was such a non-character that I felt nothing when he died. Especially since it kinda just happened with no build up to it.
>>42675218maybe it was also because I liked the character but I can see where you're coming from, he's very hit or miss
Why she so pourple?
>>42677275Because it makes her cute.
How do you guys think trogs could/should be done in the context of FoE? In Fallout 3 they're the result of the rampant pollution in The Pitt but I'm not sold on that being 1:1 transferable to an FoE setting. I'm trying to figure out some sort of magical cause for them but coming up with a blank. I did have the thought of them being a memetic hazard combined with magical contamination but that feels cheap desu. Sort of >you become a trog because you expect to/because you just give up and go feralbut that feels... idk. Lame. I guess it could be a very aggravated form of the raider virus the Enclave was spreading.
>>42678620>Wholesome wasteland stuffThat's a rarity.
>>42678647This in Red Eye's place? He does end up recreating IMP. Maybe the first batches of it weren't quite right and got dumped somewhere and are now leaking out. Exposure to radiation and the prototype alicorn juice causes weird mutations.

>>42680535There's a lot of those coming out recently. What caused that to happen?
>>42675142Leaving the audience wanting more is always fine, but I feel like the problem is more that they were all major characters but kept getting side lined or written out just to abruptly replace them with new guest stars who had no time left to be developed beyond simple caricatures. It’s the same problem S8 and 9 had which most fics tended to try and avoid.>>42675196Yeah that was kino, but it’s a shame that we never saw Xenith’s or most of the others reaction to his death despite how important he was.
>>42677275Yes.
>>42680987what are other games?
>>42674299Unironically FOE doesn't need a sequel, a direct sequel I feel like would ruin the story's perfect happy ending and if we were to get a sequel I would want it be set hundreds of years in the future where even including LittlePip are long dead.
>>42679501It's for the AU Manehattan game I'm running, which is based on the same source material as Fillydelphia: Fallout 3's The Pitt/Pittsburgh. Specifically I'm using the Pre-Scourging Pitt as my jumping off point so there's no Asher/Red Eye analog (yet) and the city hasn't been subjugated, so it's a huge mess of competing gangs, monsters, and violence. >IMP PotionI admit I'm leery of falling into the pit of 'FEV did it' like the mainline games but you might just be onto something. So far I've represented trogs as kind of a 'return to mean' devolution; they're all earth ponies (or at least lacking wings or horns) and their coats are all a muddy swamp water color. My version of Manehattan had an outsized requirement for weather control ponies and possibly sea ponies for similar activities in the water so there would be incentive to research something that might, say, allow an individual to change tribes. There's already a disease that causes you to grow gills (if you survive it) so they could be different strains of the same thing, or maybe troglodization happens when you get infected with multiple strains at the same time (hence regression to the mean; you're stuck between two or more tribes). I have been trying to think of other weird diseases for the place so this could easily lean into something like 'horn rot' where a unicorn loses their magic or a pegasus' wings fall off/get rejected by their body (because they contracted the earth pony IMP). Manehattan was also going to be at the forefront of several kinds of medical research so this would weave into that nicely as well. I'm not totally sold on it but I think I'm getting there. Probably mull it over tonight after work.
>>42680535>survival horror>mess of cloned assetsLet me know when they have anything half as good as Remains.

>>42680499Tbqh, if you get to level 20 you should have 100 skill points +20 from books and memory orbs, so you should be able to wield T5 weapons that melt enemies. So it might be a skill issue rather than a build issue.

>>42682846That still doesn't make it a happy ending.Bittersweet, certainly. Did everything she did and still has to keep working to sort out the wasteland in its better state but now she can't do shit but enjoy it from a distance without touching any of it.
>>42682765It's not impossible, I did beat the game after all. The problem is I turned into kind of a glass cannon. If I can avoid getting hit it's fine. I think the game intended for that to be the case though, given how the final boss works.
mommy uh i mean mommy i mean mommy
>>42684210More like dommy.Gin Dommy.
>>42684210If only 99 mares weren't so scary.
Anyway, 500.Good going, guys.
>>42682817>encased in a tomb foreverThat's just "boo hoo woe is me" from a narcissistic retard's viewpoint. The actual facts are:>didn't even lose friends except for Steelhooves>is literally ageless and capable of regenerating limbs due to her IMP soak - without going full alicorn>her only permanent injury is the pipleg and even that she could fix if she just lopped it off because see above>only needs to stay in control of SPP so that relatives and friends of all the ponies she murdered directly or by starvation don't come to fuck her up>can literally genocide everyone at will due to said SPP control>does not actually have to stay inside the control pod because, again, ageless and regenerating and all the bullshit about "shortened lifespan due to injuries" is just that - bullshit
>>42684879>>ponies she murdered by starvationIf it's about the pegasi, the Gardens should be able to feed them all, no biggie. Or you mean ghouls?>>can literally genocide everyone at willImagine all the bottled up intrusive thoughts. It must feel torturous.
>>42684879>is literally ageless and capable of regenerating limbsWhen was this mentioned?
>>42685232The limbs thing is fair she regrew a leg when she nuked Trixie, but ageless I'm not sure about.
>>42685238>she regrew a leg when she nuked TrixieDamn, I forgot about that.
>>42684879She just needs some time to recuperate.Plus however long it takes to keep the pegasus from being dicks with the weather. Once the GoE goes off, things get better quickly, particularly the food supply.
New bread when?
>>42647644>Flash Fillies>Gang of stallion hating maresPH really has a lot of this stuff.
>>42684835I can't fix her
>>42685740It's over...
>>42685879I mean I fixed the pattern but the Overmare is a more complicated mare than I'd be able to fix. I could save Daisy probably but I have no guarantees on the Overmare.
The Overmare will punish you for this.
