Hello and welcome once again to the gamejam! I normally only do these at the online cons, but some people showed interest in doing them every 4 months, so consider this our trial run!For those of you not in the know, here's how it works:1. Wait for the Jam to start (Check your exact date at: (https://itch.io/jam/mlp-off-con-game-jam-one-button)). 2. Once the clock starts ticking you start working on your game3. Submit it before you reach the deadline for it to get showcased on stream! (either on itch or emailing me the game)Now here's the thing, it's going to be a little different this time round since there'll be no con to show these off. My plan is to do a stream via cytube for the showcase, possibly on October 19 on sunday, 6 EST. Check the anchor for updates in schedule or anything related to the JamAfter that wall of text, let me present to you the theme for the Jam: One button!Read that again, that's one (1) button. The games of this Jam have to be either playable using a single button (be it a keyboard key, right click of a mouse or however else you interpret it) or be centered around the press of a button.I keep saying that word, it's losing all meaningThe main thing I want out of this is short, finished games. I myself struggle with the scope of my projects, it's a skill that needs to be practiced, so let's practice it!Any of this is subject to change, check the anchor for updates. This is a community thing, so if any of you have opinions or disagree on anything, please let me know
>>42595721FAQ:>When's the Jam runningAs of now, from oct 3rd to oct 19th. Thread has been created beforehand for visibility>Where is it going to be streamedCheck the anchor within a week of the deadline, I should be set up by then>Hey OP, if you want small games why are you giving almost three whole ass weeks?I'm not giving you three weeks, I'm giving you three weekends. I don't want to capitalize your time, I know some of you will be very busy this time of the year, and I don't expect you to work on your games every day.>How long will the stream be?I don't know, depends on how many games are submitted. There is no time limit for the stream this time, so we can go as long as we like! ... But the ideal time may be a couple of hours. We'll see>Will it be recorded?Yes! I'll record it myself, with chat, and upload it on pony.tube>Can I work with others to make a game?Yeah that's fully allowed. You can do it solo or in a team>What if I cheat and start earlierDo not cheat! But if you do don't tell me... And if you do tell me I'll pretend I didn't hear/read it. I suggest you stick to the time given, but there won't be any penalties. This isn't a competition, and there is no reward Yet other than finishing your projects. >What if I want to make a bigger game? You could in theory, but you'll burn yourself out. I'd like for you guys to participate in this and future game jams. If this one works out we'll be doing one every 4 months. I recommend you save the bigger projects for when we have an audience in the triple digits!>Can I submit multiple games to the Jam?Yes! You CAN submit multiple; you're allowed to... But people normally only do one. Since the goal is centered around small games for this Jam, I supposed some more experienced devs might find it trivial and may look for extra things to do, so they can do multiple instead and stop themselves from bloating their game! Or just polish their one game, the chioce is (you)rs!>Fuck you and fuck this I'm doing my own thingYeah, I guess you can, and we'll still check it out on stream if you decide to share it with us. But I recommend sticking to the restrictions. People find they're more creative when there are limitations!>LinksItch: https://itch.io/jam/mlp-off-con-game-jam-one-buttonEmail: littlehorseappreciator@proton.meOn a slightly unrelated note, you may have noticed the unidentified mare in the OP pic, say hello to: Time Crunch! She's an overconfident procrastinator. She works better under pressure... Or so she claims. Don't be like Time Crunch, pace yourselves! This is the OC I came up with for the Jam since I wanted a special OP pic for the thread, but didn't have any mascots to use. I claim no ownership and consider her to be a thread OC.I was thinking of her Cutie Mark being an alarm clock, but I haven't actually come up with a design. Also, I can't shake the feeling that she's missing something...

How do I maek a game
>>42595722>from oct 3rd to oct 19thDudeWe have the anniversary stream in that window
>>42595945problem solved
>>42595945>anniWell fuck, I forgot. Would you guys be fine with moving it to Oct 17th - Nov 2nd? If not, propose a date
>>42595721One button! i can't wait to see what anons come up with>>42596115fine with me
more like gay jam lmao gottem
>>425957211 button reminds me of that very old Armour Games where you clicked on 1 button and it kept changing between minigame to minigame, some even tried copying it unsuccessfully. The whole point of it was that it was very very sneaky and creative like flip the switch till you get the correct number or color. So gamejams are a nice time to test your skills out, but this thread like we've discussed before ... can also be the ground for discussing new game ideas and game mechanics , sorry that I haven't contacted any of you for that.So so so many good games on Kongregate, Newgrounds, Armour Games that could make for amazing games on their own like Bubble Tank.I actually am really curious to discuss with you guys new genres and game mechanics and game ideas like those old spider games where you're not allowed to step on the web for too long or the spider comes and eats you. I love those puzzle games oh oh or like those pyramid exploding barrels game where you have to collect all the diamonds.Yeah anyway I'm open to discussing with you horror games and even lewd games such as you know sex simulators and this 1 great idea I had for this biology RPG which probably has been done before, but nobody ever linked me to it.Right so I have this idea for taking care of your main character's health like Doctor Mario but none of that tetris shit, instead it's more like those battleship games where you place turrets strategically. And no no that's not the entire game, that's simply the second part to the game just like RPGs have gear and inventory, so will your inner organs be like gear.So you have this secondary area with units and percentages where you feed your character quality food, resources, minerals, etc. and they appear in your pony's body while you're busy fighting enemies like a normal RPG.Your body is like a real-time RTS arena where armies have fights. I thought of this idea in Starcraft where we don't have turn-based combat. It's a great idea cause it can simulate cancer, poison, disease, corruption, all sorts of stuff in real time and not through basic ass -1 HP per second. Ever watched Ozzy & Drix? or any insideout episode? just like that. Oh and think of the alien biology of a pony and how it differs from unicorn to pegasus to alicorn and how cyborgs go, but I'm getting ahead of myself. The point is it goes 1 step above inventory management ... you also have to manage your body's innards! while fighting off enemies in real life? isn't that great? and you can have a boss fight where you have to kill the bitch from the insideout with a terrible disease mwhahaa. You can simulate fevers. It's a RPG Doctor simulator! it will finally give poison and heart attacks in video games the proper detail they need, you can cut your own arm to stop the poison isn't that great? just clog your arteries so the black widow poison doesn't spread or pegasi can be like cats, they're not affected by black widow poison.
i am so heccin ready
>>42595940Making a game is like booping a mare
>>42597074
>one button Uh oh, does the mouse button counts ?
>>42597083Booping mares game when?
I'm going to try and make a game this time!!!!
>>42597798Probably fine?
>>42597903I said that last time
>>42598173Use the prep time to work through ideas and find tutorials for things you might need to do.
Soooo...what am I making this in? All I see is "okay fillies, go maek game now!"
>>42597798Yeah it counts. Feel free to stretch the meaning of button to its limits.>>42598451Agreed, better to make use of all this preptime>>42598482You can use any engine or make your own. I've seen the majority use Godot and Unity, a couple game maker projects, Ren'py, etc. You can use basically anything. And it isn't "now" you'd still technically need to wait for the Jam to start, though with now almost three weeks until that, I'd understand it a bit more if people cheated
>>42596545Interesting idea. But a bit complicated for a one button only game jam with only 2 weekends to work on it. Personally I'm thinking of doing a communication game. try to interact with a pony using only a single button to influence what they do
>>42598482This is your chance to flex your creativity and add more pone to the world.Even if it's simple, small, and unpolished, it's making the world a better place.
>>42598482clickteam fusion of course
>>42599020>>42595721Before OP started his OP the idea was to make a true mini gamejam, normally in real gamejams you're only allowed 2-3 days. Not 2-3 weeks. I think after the 1 button game another gamejam should be hosted which isn't so limited. OP did that because supposedly last gamejam a lot of people were wasting time as opposed to working everyday, albeit as you all know people have jobs to attend to to survive and can only work full time on weekends, some not even wanting to because you want to crack a cold beer on a Friday night and wake up at 1PM on a Saturday, not go back to work after you just came back from your job.
>>42599426nobody will get anything done in 2-3 days, real gamejams are for people with experience. people still need time to learn how to make stuff.
>>42598482yes
>>42599426Problem with mini game jams, as you said, is that it requires you to no-life those two specific days.Contrary to the stereotype, most people are busy with irl stuff to comply to such constrictive timelines. Hence why I decided to give so much time to this seemingly short Jam.>OP did that because supposedly last gamejam a lot of people were wasting time as opposed to working everydayI wouldn't say that. Not "wasting" time, people are just busy.I don't think I said that and I don't know where you got that idea, there were people that spent literally 50 or so hours in their games last Jam. If the mascot mare in the OP gave you that idea, that's just a parody of what happens in all fields and to everyone involved in content creation, it's nor meant to be taken seriously or a personal jab at anyone. So, sorry if it felt like an attack
>>42595721Time crunch is so cute, i love tired mares. I think I'll have to put her in my game
>>42600174
>>42597802Last game jam had a game where you worked as Derpy at the mail office Papers, Please! style and could boop ponies
>>42600598
>>42595725>>42596115Well, since no one has spoken up against it. We'll be moving the Jam to Oct 17th - Nov 2nd. That's quite a bit of time for prep work and for people to notice the thread.
>>42601379

>>42601984I forgot about halloween. The last few years have been kind of disappointing for spooky shit, but hopefully I can get more into the spirit this year.
but i wanted to make a game with many, many buttons

>>42604304That has newgrounds energy
>>42604304now that you came up with this idea you have to make it

>>42595721side note, i thought the link to the jam on itch was 404'd for the past few days, but it turns out the two parentheses )) were getting added to the URL
>>42601702Since with this timeline anons can recover from their anniversary hangovers, would there be some creativity left for a few more panels, to turn this into a little pony online convention? We'd be gathering on cytube for the 10/10 horse IGN journalist, so this is almost like a con already, could be expanded into an evening/night of fun. Please forgive me for /r/, just throwing a barebones idea out.
>>42607756That sounds like fun to me, but I don't know how many people would actually end up submitting a panel. You'd probably have to make a separate thread just to make it known that there is more than just the game jam going on. And it would probably be pretty disorganized without some proper planning.
>>42607756>>42607793Well I'd be up for it, but it'd be rudimentary as heck. If you guys have an idea of what you'd want to do, you can hit me up and we can queue your thing before the Jam. We can get a schedule going. Simple "cozy" panels is what I think would be best.I'm not expecting triple digit attendance, so just be aware of that.I think we can make a thread if we get enough "panels", depending on how many people want to do something for this in-between cons.
