Sunset felt too much like a writer's pet and the humane 6 don't get enough development to distinguish themselves from the original m6. I was hoping for something in the vein of Persona with the highschool setting, but the show never takes advantage of the possibilities. It was merely a cashgrab for the Monster High audience so there wasn't any passion behind it like Faust had with FiM.

>>42615007Kinda hard to give the characters independent development through the movies while still meeting all the plots that Hasbro required for the movies.The girls get a better exploration of their personalities through the show and specials. Especially Rarity and Twilight, who aside from baseline personalities and interests, are very different characters with very different roles in the group.The staff really cared about the show, it's a shame it got cancelled before its planned ending.

Sunset questions it at first but is just relieved to have a second chance / do-over at seeing the concert, but things end up going awry again and missing it.Sunset wakes up the next morning and finds that the day has repeated AGAIN, and this time when Rainbow inevitably hits her ass with the paddle she's just elated that she has yet another chance to see the concert she reacts the way she does - the context is that Sunset is *not* actually enjoying the pain, but rather being slapped by Rainbow again means she has yet another chance and she's happy for that. Of course Rainbow's reaction is a subtle suggestion she THINKS she's enjoying it which is how I think the joke presumably gets past censors.

I have dunked on EqG before for the Barbies-are-derivative reason, but I've been conflicted because I wasn't forgiving my old socially maladjusted self from a couple decades ago. I was too ambitious and stubbornly self-reliant, and liking this character would mean accepting that I let these traits make me dislikeable as a child. I need to get over that and accept this part of my life so I can put it behind me like this character. I believe she carries the series and makes it worthwhile.
