The show massively improved when Twilight became a Alicorn.

My big thing is that season one established all their friendships and then later seasons feel like they said 'okay, that's already been covered' when you have to consistently show that these characters are friends with eachother for people to believe it. No wonder so many people see their friendships as essentially a business relationship.
