Welcome to the prelude of the upcoming 2025 Princess /mlp/ pageant, where your favorite ladies from across all aspects of the franchise be it canon, fandom, or memery are judged and selected for who is most deserving of being crowned the queen of the board.

I hope everyone is looking forward for another chance for their contestant of choice to win the coveted 'Jackie'. For those unfamiliar with this thread, this is our equivalent to the 'Ms. /co/' and 'Queen /v/' competitions, a voting tournament to find the lucky girl worthy of being called the princess of the board. Last year, our 2024 winner was that most beloved of background ponies, the dopey-eyed delivery mare Derpy Hooves who took 1st place in a match-up against the great and powerful Trixie Lulamoon in the Finals.

This is NOT the nomination phase just yet, I am not taking candidates. As with the last few years, I like to make a thread a few weeks ahead of the tournament to get a gauge on how the board is feeling on the existing ruleset and open any necessary discussion on the upcoming Tournament, going by thoughts taken from the exit polls of last year. The points of discussion are as follows, please let me know your thoughts on each.

POLL: https://forms.gle/cHPtYER68GwjRpZ2A

>Date
This year I plan on starting Miss /mlp/ officially on October 24th, so save the date

>Round of 256
First item of discussion is what may potentially be the biggest shake-up this year. Last year, with a particularly slow Qualifier Round and the number of nominated entrants just barely missing the 256 mark, there was suggestions and discussion of forgoing the Qualifiers and simply allowing an extra large 256 entrants into the tournament, simply ending Nominations when we reach that quota. An exit poll after Miss /mlp/ 2024 showed a solid 57% of voters would be interested in such, and so I feel it best to pose the question again here in the preliminary stage to see if interest is still strong.

There will be a few other issues to work out in the case of a 256 first round. First of all, this idea would eliminate the Qualifier stage entirely, and no Qualifiers means no Seeding (unless we care to find an alternative means of Seeding such as order of successful nomination) and thus Randomized will be favored. Randomized was also met with positive polling last year but it is a topic worth bringing up for discussion. The Qualifier Round is also useful for determining:
1. Whether a character counts as an verified 'Alt' that can compete on their own (like Pinkamena or Nightmare Moon) or if they're too similar to the pony they're based on to allow both
2. Which Mini-Brackets to go for this year if there are more than 8 suggested, as well as making further suggestions of what characters belong in each Mini-Bracket.
We could still have a Qualifier Round regardless, but given its usual purpose is to thin down however many extra contestants there are to only 128, in a 256 entry tournament its role is mostly redundant.

Stallion Trixie wins Miss /mlp/ 2025!
>>
>>42629164
At any rate it still remains an option so please vote on if you'd be interested in seeing it and if you do what suggestions you would make in regards to it.

>Royal Round Robin
Last year was the inaugural run of our 'Royal Round Robin' side-tourney, in which our previous Miss /mlp/ victors competed against each other in a Round-Robin style tournament where each princess went head to head to see who came out on top in a majority of match-ups. The ideas was met with mostly positive reception in the exit poll at 55% but not the most overwhelming warm of reactions. I wanted to present the option to try it again this year if you would be interested in seeing this tradition continue.

>Royal Round Robin Results
One suggestion that came up from last year was to hide the results of each round to prevent gaming the end results, and only showing them all at the very end of the tourney. If you approve of this idea feel free to vote, or if you think the results of each round should be shown vote against it.

Feel free to offer any other suggestions you may have on how to improve the Royal Round Robin if you're interested in seeing it continue.

>Randomized vs Seeding
Almost always our most divided topic of discussion on the polls, Randomized received a 60% approval rating in the exit poll last year but as always I will leave it to voters to see how they lean on it this year.

The key point to remember is that if a 256 entry tournament is voted in, Randomized will almost certainly need to be implemented given it will mostly eliminate the need for a Qualifier Round which is used for Seeding. I have included another option however to, in the case both Seeding and Round of 256 are voted in this year, to ask if they would like a Qualifier Poll regardless, which will be low stakes due to no one being dropped from it and an extra day added to the Tourney but will allow us to keep Seeding. Or offer your own suggestion for how Seeding may be implemented in lieu of a Qualifier Round.

>Mini-Brackets
Mostly a formality at this point as Mini-Brackets have proven consistently one of the more popular additions to Miss /mlp/, but if you think you'll have enough voting on your plate with potentially 256 entrants you're free to vote for/against it.

>Plus-Sized Mini-Brackets
Last year in the exit polls there was suggestion for some Mini-Brackets to be larger than others provided they have enough nominees. Usually this consists of Best Background Pony and Best OC, which always have more than 32 entrants (although Best Villain/Filly often gets close too).
This poll option will let you vote on whether to have 1 or 2 32-entry Mini-Brackets, to be decided later determining based on how many nominations each Mini-Bracket gets. Depending on how many 32-entry Mini-Brackets there are, the number of smaller, 16-entry Mini-Brackets will be reduced to either 6 or 4
>>
>>42629172
>Resolving Ties
We had a few more ties than usual last year, and previously the established means of resolving ties was to allow BOTH contestants to proceed and the winner of the next round is based on plurality. However there was one other popular suggestion regarding checking the amount of failed Verification Questions to see which one answered more correctly to resolve ties, so I will be introducing this option here to see how anons feel about which of the two to use.

Besides those, if any other topics of discussion come to mind, feel free to share them here and I can add them to the poll. My intent is to let the poll and this thread run for roughly a week to get a good consensus on the matters.

You could make that a best of 4. So each choice has 4 amres to choose from and you have to pick one and only the one with the most votes advances to the next round, that being the round of 64.
>>
>>42631423
I had assumed anons would like the traditional one-on-one matchups but considering there's so many in the first round it might be worth considering. I will add the option for Round 1 ton consist of four-way match-ups for the 256 (if it is voted in), you can find it just underneath the first couple questions in the poll now.

If 256 make it in I'd prefer the option to make it last with just basic 1v1's, I assume the appeal is to let lesser known characters compete but if it's going to immediately shave it down from 256 to 64 they're not going to be in for very long

As you can see from the photo, Trixie is completely unqualified to be Miss /mlp/. Here at /mlp/, we don't believe in catering to mental illnesses. No matter what pronouns "she" may tell you to use, Trixie's natural length and girth is proof that "she" was correctly assigned male at birth. Trixie intends to compete, and win, in this year's Mr. /mlp/, and I wish "her" the best of luck.

The image that strikes fear into hundreds of anons:
>>
>>42635493
In previous preliminary threads I had put forth the option to allow previous winners to return, if not right away then after a set period of time, but after five straight years of 'No' winning every time I think at a certain point it felt right to retire the question, especially given the margins by which 'No' was winning was increasing each year. I know there's always going to be support for our previous victors to make another run, but I think I would need to see a large swing in the number of people asking for it to return it to the preliminary poll again. That is part of the reason I thought to implement the 'Royal Round Robin' idea was a compromise that'd allow you to vote on past winners again, albeit in their own mini-circuit made up only of other winners, though we'll have to see if it's voted to return this year to give it another try.

Runner-ups however are always legal to return after only a year's delay. This year our 2023 Runner-up Fluttershy will be eligible to compete again after sitting out last year, along with 3rd place Lyra and 4th place Sgt. Reckless. Trixie, Marble, and Redheart will have to sit out this year due to placing top 4 of 2024 but will be able to compete again in 2026.
