If you look into old documentaries about house and techno music and the history of electronic DJing, it was never about being flashy and doing tricks, it was about curating a vibe where people could lose themselves in the moment. Jeff Mills did an interview talking about his style and what his job was as a DJ and it boils down to being as omnipresent and invisible as possible at the same time. The music is repetitive and hypnotic and compels you to move, almost like a chant or a drum circle. It's not meant to be listened to, it's meant to be felt with your body.
