Hello and welcome once again to the gamejam! I normally only do these at the online cons, but some people showed interest in doing them every 4 months, so consider this our trial run!For those of you not in the know, here's how it works:1. Go to : https://itch.io/jam/mlp-off-con-game-jam-one-button and join the Jam2. Maek gaem in any engine you'd like3. Once you finish your game, submit it on the itch page before the time runs out game so everyone can play it4. When the timer runs out, I'll showcase the games in a live streamNow here's the thing, it's going to be a little different this time round since there'll be no con to show these off. My plan is to do a stream via cytube for the showcase, possibly on november 2nd, sunday 6 EST. Check the anchor for updates in schedule or anything related to the JamAfter that wall of text, let me present to you the theme for the Jam: One button!Read that again, that's one (1) button. The games of this Jam have to be either playable using a single button (be it a keyboard key, right click of a mouse or however else you interpret it) or be centered around the press of a button.I keep saying that word, it's losing all meaningThe main thing I want out of this is short, finished games. I myself struggle with the scope of my projects, it's a skill that needs to be practiced, so let's practice it!Any and all of this is subject to change, check the anchor for updates. This is a community thing, so if any of you have opinions or disagree on anything, please let me knowOn a slightly unrelated note, you may have noticed the unidentified mare in the OP pic, say hello to: Time Crunch! She's an overconfident procrastinator. She works better under pressure... Or so she claims. Don't be like Time Crunch, pace yourselves! This is the OC I came up with for the Jam since I wanted a special OP pic for the thread, but didn't have any mascots to use. I claim no ownership and consider her to be a thread OC.I was thinking of her Cutie Mark being an alarm clock, but I haven't actually come up with a design. Also, I can't shake the feeling that she's missing something...>LinksItch: https://itch.io/jam/mlp-off-con-game-jam-one-buttonEmail: littlehorseappreciator@proton.me
FAQ:>When's the Jam runningAs of now, from Oct 17 to Nov 2nd. Meaning RIGHT NOW AAAAAAAAAAAAAAA>Where is it going to be streamedCheck the anchor within a week of the deadline, I should be set up by then>Hey OP, if you want small games why are you giving almost three whole ass weeks?I'm not giving you three weeks, I'm giving you three weekends. I don't want to capitalize your time, I know some of you will be very busy this time of the year, and I don't expect you to work on your games every day.>How long will the stream be?I don't know, depends on how many games are submitted. There is no time limit for the stream this time, so we can go as long as we like! ... But the ideal time may be a couple of hours. We'll see>Will it be recorded?Yes! I'll record it myself, with chat, and upload it on pony.tube>Can I work with others to make a game?Yeah that's fully allowed. You can do it solo or in a teamfinishing your projects.>What if I want to make a bigger game? You could in theory, but you'll burn yourself out. I'd like for you guys to participate in this and future game jams. If this one works out we'll be doing one every 4 months. I recommend you save the bigger projects for when we have an audience in the triple digits!>Can I submit multiple games to the Jam?Yes! You CAN submit multiple; you're allowed to... But people normally only do one. Since the goal is centered around small games for this Jam, I supposed some more experienced devs might find it trivial and may look for extra things to do, so they can do multiple instead and stop themselves from bloating their game! Or just polish their one game, the chioce is (you)rs!>Fuck you and fuck this I'm doing my own thingYeah, I guess you can, and we'll still check it out on stream if you decide to share it with us. But I recommend sticking to the restrictions. People find they're more creative when there are limitations!>Can I use pre-made assets?Yeah, for sure. You can use stuff you have lying around for your game>I don't want to make an itch.io account :(Fine, you can email me your game, but expect follow up emails in case the game runs weirdly or I get a virus alert 0c0

I come back from an outing out of my state and come back to find out the thread got sniped in 4 hours at midnight. If I was a bit more of a schizo I'd say we were being targeted
>>42724712boards been pretty fast lately
What happens if you stroke time crunch's flank?
i created this game in mspaintyou start with a sideways # first player writes mare in a spacesecond player writes mare in a spacewhen you get three mares in a row, you say maremaremare and both players win!
>>42725380She does nothing, her blood is 90% caffeine, she can't feel a thing
We're sooo back.
I'm making this story up as I draw the images, I apologize in advance.
I'm cheating and using two mouse buttons. One is just to open the menu for saves/settings though.
I am going through unity tutorials right now, hopefully I will have time to make a simple game.
Up
>>42726610Keep it as simple as possible. It'll take three times how long you expect it to take, minimum.
Your mare will be sent to the snowpity extraction chamber.
I want to see some games controlled by scroll wheel
>>42728411You're a monster.
>>42728411i guess it is technically one button, and would allow for having two different inputs (or three if you include the click)
>>42725585I think it's more interesting if the loser is forced to explain why the winner's waifu is better
>>42729380But there is no way to have a loser!
>>42729393In that case the winners need to engage in mutual complimenting the other's mare wife!
>>42729576Perfect!
>>42724681Yay, new thread!>5 days leftShit, I need to start coding...Wait, first I need to have an idea!Floppy Birb clone but with cute mares?A boring button masher with cute mares?A rythm game where you spell "CUTE MARE" in morse with cute mares?Welp, gotta sleep on it, maybe I will have clearer ideas tomorrow.>Time Crunch, I can't shake the feeling that she's missing something...Well, dhu, time! She is missing time. Else sh wouldn't be crunching...
>>42729801>A boring button masher with cute mares?Thats what I came up with AND STILL HAVEN'T STARTED CODING AAAAAA
Only 6 days left! And I still haven't created the project. I guess it's time to reduce scope
I sooo overscoped. Somewhat fitting considering Timecrunch.
>have idea for game during the anni>black out>forget about it until now>5 days leftmotherfucker.
>5days left>Just rememberedThe creative concept is certainly not making it in... darnTime to go the simple route
>Cleaned up desk>Took a shower>Did the dishesYup, it's dev time.
Getting so close to having 3 minutes worth of gameplay.
Designing puzzles is hard
I chose the most nonredeemable villain for my game.
>>42732869golly?
>>42727540
Got a majority of the coding working together at this point, now to make the art assets and put the level design together and it should be ready to go. Hope I can get everything done in time.
>>42733411I believe in you!
Bump
Game submitted!
Submissions are starting to trickle in!
I finally have struck inspiration! time to start coding
>>42736251Best of luck anon, I'm sure you'll finish in time
lets see if I can teach myself enough programming to get my simple idea done. I know what I want too make, just not how. the only time I ever did anything of the sort was something ultra simple in middle school. apparently Dev-C++ which we used back then doesnt even work anymore.
