Is 2 bits for 3 tomatoes really a ripoff?

Still a better deal than what she tries to goad me into for free tomatoes.
>>
Tangentially related I always imagined the smaller units of currency in Equestria to be "bobs" and pieces" . Then it's bits, bobs and pieces and that's cute to me.
>>
>>42754018
I am stealing this headcanon. I will not be returning it. You have been forewarned.
>>

Also the guy who was overcharging Fluttershy made me sad and it seemed like the sort of mundane plain evil that existed in our world, so I like to headcanon that he too is usually a pushover, but he _also_ went to Iron Will's seminar and is now also going overboard with the lessons. Ponies are impressionable.
>>
>>42754071
If you rewatch the episode, you'll notice that most of the ponies who were rude to Flutters are also in the crowd of Iron Will"s seminar
>>
>pays in boops

This is a marvelous headcanon deserving of a (you). Would bobs and pieces be silver and copper then? https://ponerpics.org/images/7362614 coined the term (pun intended) bite for the silver ones already, so maybe they're actually bit, bites and bobs. Where bobs are the copper ones. 100 bobs = 10 bites = 1 bit
>>
>>42754005
how big are the tomatos
>>
>>42754192
I don't think 100 silver coins for a gold coin is very practical. Personally I think they'd do multiples of 10 instead, 10 copper coins for 10 silver coins, 10 silvers for 10 gold.
>>
>>42754220
>10 copper coins for 10 silver coins
>10 silvers for 10 gold
So 1 copper = 1 silver = 1 gold?

Unfortunately, mostly we see them use gold coins so inflation must be pretty rough in Equestria.
But let's say depiction is lousy. Normally most pony would use silver and copper coins.

gold and gems are so common in equestria that they're lacking in steel, copper and silver. the bit is the least valuable piece

This could work too. I can picture older mares being upset with the state of the economy.

>"What dost thou mean 2 bits?"
>"In my years of foalhood tomatoes be but pittance worthy of no more than 3 bites and 2 bobs."
>>
>>42754262
I like to think that gems are so stupidly common that stones that aren't encrusted with gems are a scarcity, and that's why there is even a market for something like the Pie family rock farm. It's not just a funny name for a quarry, they have to tend to the stones regularly lest they develop gems
>>
>>42754279
>Heightened magic activity promotes gem growth in rocks.
>The Pie family works tirelessly to rotate the rocks on the daily to prevent gem growth.
>Pinkie hands out fliers to level the curve on magic production, so that everypony's foals can live in a world that still has bare rocks.
>Twilight is not impressed
>This pits the unicorns and Earth ponies against each other.
>Shenanigans ensues.
>>
>>42754279
I think for financial porpuse they only use metals. Gems are like working matterial. (Which can be valueable like oil or coal, but not like a buck in a store. They pay with them to Spike as they knew he eats them.)
>>
>>42754005
Roma grows the tomatoes so I'm sure she knows what they're worth and wouldn't raise the price unless she needed more bits.
Now that Pinkie bamboozled her out of her money she's going to starve during pony winter.

Moral of the episode is that effective conservationism is about compromises, and concludes with the pie family farm getting magical exclusion zoning and the nearby town gets to continue using magic as long as they stay outside of the conservation area.
