It's time Game Jam has come and gone. It's time to show off those games (You)r fellow board members have been working on for the past few weeks!Try such games at: https://itch.io/jam/mlp-off-con-game-jam-one-buttonWe'll be doing a stream to check them out together>Where are you showing off the games? At Zaifer on cytubeIt's not "mlp game jam" or smilar in case I die or something, so another anon can take over with the name>At what time?8 pm UTC. Hopefully it isnt' as late for some eurobros to join us>How long will it lastPossibly 3 hours if we keep the soft limit of 10 minutes per game going. I don't want it to be TOO long, but we can go over.>Will it be recordedYes. I'm thinking of recording it with chatDon't expect marecon or mlpcon levels of cytube. The stream will be servizable with a handful of emotesSince there'll certainly be less people than the other showcases, I was thinking of testing a sort of "hot mic" system, where people will be able to drop into the stream and hang out. I like thinking of these jams as a comunity effort and I want the streams to reflect that. The OC badly shopped into the OP is Time Crunch! She's an overconfident procrastinator. She works better under pressure... Or so she claims. Don't be like Time Crunch, pace yourselves! This is the OC I came up with for the Jam since I wanted a special OP pic for the thread, but didn't have any mascots to use. I claim no ownership and consider her to be a thread OC.She has no cutie mark because she's currently procastinating on discovering her destiny.>LinksItch: https://itch.io/jam/mlp-off-con-game-jam-one-buttonStream: /r/Zaifer on cytubeEmail: littlehorseappreciator@proton.me (In case you NEED to tell me something in private)

ITS STARTING EARLY ITS STARTING NOW
Seems I won't be finishing my game for the jam, but I kinda expected that as I was spending more time on visual polish features than is really realistic for the timeframe. Just gonna release it as a standalone thing at some point once I get it playable so I don't have to compromise as much on things I wanna do.For those curious here's a video of the progress I made on it during the jam period at least (might not look like much but it has a good basis "engine" wise now for the rest of the game). It's going to be a top down shooter as you might be able to imagine by the video. Fits the 1 button theme of course still by having your movement controlled by mouse direction and clicking to fire. If only I was capable of scoping my ideas down better lol (or wanted to rather).

>>42778618next time it might be helpful to have timers to not go over time
>>42782383That's what I've been doing actually! But I decided to give each game enough time to shine. But when in cons I do try to be more strict on the 10 minutes per game thingy. Do you think this one would've been better if we stuck with a stricter timer? (Serious question)

Honestly the idea of channeling our passion for poni into gamedev is so fucking cool and I'd love if we could all keep meeting up somewhere. Maybe it's for the best we just use these threads so it's actively exciting and so we're all working on stuff together, but it'd be kinda cool to practice game related skills together someplace. I wonder if /pts/ would be welcoming or if they're more of a programming/engineering group and less game dev skills.
>>42785206there's always /create/though they don't have a thread up right now. i don't keep tabs on that sort of thing so i don't know if they rebranded or what. nothing stopping us from just creating our own /create/ or whatever though

>>42785473>mylittlegamedevThat feminds me. I was thinking of maybe making a page that either hosted or at least linked the games from the previous Jams, it'd work wonders as a sort of hub. But everything I'd be able to manage would be amateur at best
>>42785853That would be insanely neat if you can do something like that.
>>42785853Mylittlegamedev used to be a whole little community with an active forum and gamejams on a regular basis and stuff. >>42785906That's neat. You could look into archiving games from previous jams and rehosting them, in particular the web ones. Seems like at least RenPy ones from latest jam download stuff from other online servers instead of locally hosted copy.Archival is already a concern - I ran itch-dl on like 4 previous /mlp/ jams I could find (that alone was a bit difficult, might be a good start to gather links to those), and two games were unavailable.>https://itch.io/jam/halloween-mlp-game-jam"horseHordeMode" asks for a password>https://itch.io/jam/june-mlp-game-jamhttps://needmareplshelp.itch.io/pone gives me a 404For downloadable games, I'd expect some way to prove to visitor that a game has the exact checksum as one that is/was on Itch.>>42785206>I wonder if /pts/ would be welcomingI treat it as /g/ but with ponies and less dumb, hopefully. I'm not sure a pony /g/ is the best place to get feedback on game development efforts, it seems to me like tempo/create with actual artfags would give (You) the responses you deserve, with the craft appreciated as a whole, you know. I'd probably get myself nerdsniped in /pts/ if you had some online infrastructure questions etc.; can't speak for other anons.>inb4 abandoned jam games with online features, slowly rotting due to anons not being able to pay three fiddy for a server forever (understandable) and/or teleported to Equestria>low stakes reverse engineering projects to keep interactive poni art alive
>>42785906When I said that it'd be "amateur at best". I really did mean just lines of text on a white background, either that or using wordpress (or similar). Since I had to dive into the archives to get these links >>42786544 I bumped into some memories of how these Jams started. Here's a little history lesson for you anons. Here's the post that started everything, an anon whose name I never got:https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/40013561/#40051704Then here's the official announcement, it was decidedly called "pony arcade" and it was to be streamed at mlpcon:https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/40013561/#40053734The stream:https://pony.tube/w/tN44s41p7vX2TAPh31WJGUThe host then announced his plans for a Halloween game jam:https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/40013561/#40090424I think the same anon went on to make a Halloween Jam with the help of buttercupsaiyan. That jam, like this one, wasn't hosted at a con. They had a couple of threads:https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/40441391/&https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/40485816The stream was apparently recorded, but I've not been able to find any trace of it.Marecon passed in February and there was no sign of life from the original hosts. Then came mlpcon again, anons (including me) were asking if there was gonna be another Jam. No one seemed to be planning to make one, so I decided to step up and submitted a panel a couple of days before the panel submissions closed, (I think it was two days, I remember cutting it close):https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/41082707/#41155057And made a threadhttps://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/41155816/&https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/41177105/The announcement was so abrupt, I'm surprised we got as many games as we did. This, of course, was also recorded:https://pony.tube/w/9jBKFyTFtM9B8ASDgGaqDrFor mlpcon, we had another. "ASSet edition"https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/41826479&https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/41944493Recording:https://pony.tube/w/8ejhy1uLcP8vmahykeAcE5&https://pony.tube/w/58jKHirytLhXVarFDAravkI fucked up and didn't actually show off all the games and actually ended the stream half an hour earlier than planned, so I asked for another panel and they graciously gave it to me. That's why there are two streams. (I blame it on the a-a-a-a-a-alcohol. It's why I don't do these *tipsy* anymore)We then had the "Anon's choice", which resulted in the pony hobbies jamhttps://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/42196240/#42196240&https://desuarchive.org/mlp/thread/42274221/#42274221The stream:https://pony.tube/w/rhUAtzReaKgvobgYconsFvAnd that brings us to this day!Previous posts for posterity:>>42595721>>42688330>>42724681>TL;DRI got nostalgic and decided to write what's happened so far
>>42786476Pic related is what we have left of pone. Bumpa for theme discussion
>>42786562One thing I will always be disappointed about Sims and 3D Barbie simulator games are the vacant soulless expressions and ironically more animation care being put into the dances rather than the subtle actions. Also you have to manually adjust the camera and lighting to even see what the hell is going on. It's very hard to cover the entire screen and get every body segment in the same screen with the correct proportion. 2D will always beat 3D. 3D requires 2D skin textures, 2D facial expressions, etc. etc.https://arch.b4k.dev/v/thread/724912569/https://arch.b4k.dev/v/thread/724946986/When it comes to these sort of games you automatically need a powerful animator engine that doesn't look soulless and allows for interaction rather than playing a looped animation. The programmer needs to be a massive jack of all trades and basically a fucking genius for little reward.
>>42786680Seconding this
>>42786642Modding is an interesting idea, though of course it'd require everyone partaking to mod some game (or make a game with some sort of modding theme I suppose), and for OP to own all those games to install the mods.well, i'm sure there's plenty of free or even open source stuff one could mod.
Don't you dare die
>>42787840I think a modding jam would just flop. Pony games are already a big niche and pony mods would be bigger.
>>42788278well if it was just a theme there would be ways to apply it to games. like maybe you could make a game about pony cyborgs with body modifications
>>42788299True, I guess I was thinking about the theme too literally.
>>42788299I like the idea of change. Maybe an "evolution" theme, where the game changes as you play. Could be mechanics, visuals, story, whatever
Humbly requesting to make the next jam even longer. Maybe an entire month.
>>42789101a whole month would make group efforts a more worthy endeavour, which sounds fun
>>42789101I honestly need to just stop being so experimental and just accept a simple directionless game for a first run, but I just can't help myself...
Just finished playing the last of the games. I don't have any proof, but I feel like 3 games this jam cheated and started early or something.
Another thing, I play games to play games. Nobody likes reading, less novels next time please.
I want to do a management game next time...
>>42789259I didn't feel like any of the games were impossible to make in 3 weeks
>>42789287I tried making games before, its a slow progress. The games I think cheated are Let her in, Pony Adventure, My Pretty tiny horse. Fluttershy's Laundromat and Bat Batting also seem a little suspect to me too.
>>42789281That'll be fun to seeyou can usually twist any theme into the kind of game you want
>>42789318Just because you can't do it doesn't mean it's impossible. People who have been making games for longer have more skills with the tools. None of the games to me seemed impossible to do in the 2-3 week time period.Exception is My Pretty Horse as it was explicitly stated to have been done before the jam and they just wanted to show it off during the jam.
>>42789318I do apologise for making more of a visual novel than a game, a weird flash of inspiration had struck me and I really wanted to make it, and couldn't think about making anything else. I promise to make a proper game the next gamejam as to compensate, and I'll put my all into it.Anyway, the game was made in RPG Maker and I was making an adaptation off of a FimFiction story. So I kind of didn't have to think ahead that far in regards to the writing and I didn't really have to do much programming. The game was made within the limits of the gamejam though. I don't think I did obfuscation when deploying, so you can actually see the dates of all the files; the only one before the gamejam is the custom bitmap font (I wanted a pixel perfect game). Funnily enough, I did actually update the game more with the extra time and stuff. In 1-1 I added the laptop scene; formerly it was just written out with no visual aids. And in 1-2 I made the Pony Town look actually Pony-ish instead of all human-like. Both were done within a day. Still a little sad that some parts of it are too barren though. Could've thrown in more vehicles to populate the streets and fleshed out some places and had more consequential decisions and so on. I did work pretty much all day and night on the days where I was working, though. Had all those gun sprites and stuff and just never got to make an actual combat system. Even drew status effect icons. In hindsight, might have ruined the feel of the game, even if it would've made it more game-y.Small excerpt of me working and drawing a basic grenade icon in about 10 minutes. https://files.catbox.moe/sf7ll2.mp4

>>42791319I love rpgs! What do you need?
>>42790145Honestly, I'm gonna take a look at these. Maybe even make a doc for my next jam game.
>>42790145I feel like for solo devs, unless you have many deeply interlocked systems, a full GDD just wastes time when a paragraph and a bullet point would work just as well and be easier to maintain
>>42789476I'm happy with what you shared, if you saw my earlier post.I concur that combat would have ruined the feel, and wouldn't even make sense without changing the context of the story. I personally like audio-visual narratives even if they lack gameplay. As I said you managed to enhance what would otherwise have been a plain read. I did go check the fic after playing. It's kind of a proof of concept of what you could maybe achieve with a longer story and more time, if you can find another burst of inspiration. I know from experience that stuff doesn't always come readily.>>42791319Oh Anon... that reminds me of the days when my friend wanted to make a pony RPG and I utterly failed to help him. If I wasn't worried about another project right now... but I think you're in good hands with the jam anons. This is a blessed thread, I can feel it.
>>42789838Thanks. Sorry, I'm overly verbose by default, I don't know why. I like to have all available info, so it's only fair that others have that too if they want it.>>42792338The original fic was of great interest to me. I admittedly went for a very different ending - feels a bit like a betrayal. I'm sure many would prefer the original fic's ending more, and I'm happy I convinced at least one person more to read it. Many have said the fic just isn't that good. By conventional standards? Maybe. But sometimes an underlooked greentext or fic just does something to your brain, and nobody else seems to see what you see. It feels really good to be able to shine a spotlight on something that has touched you, to help others see as well. And I'm of course, glad you had enjoyed it enough to post about it. More power to her for when she comes for realsies, naturally. That aside, yeah. I'm waiting for inspiration to strike me again. A pony RPG WOULD be cool. I've always wanted to make something like Stick RPG but with ponies and a lot more dialogue. Such a rich world to explore with a lot of fun potential combat options just with the differences between the three pony subspecies alone. No games quite scratch the itch of just existing in Ponyville, even if briefly. Good luck with your (presumably pony related) project; I'm sort of interested in your friend's pony RPG too, has anything come of it?I'm certain that if someone makes one half-decent pony RPG and posts about it here, more will follow. Need someone to kick it off, I might make a little something something to see if it encourages others.
>>42792407>I might make a little something somethingYes, I demand more pony games. Small games, fat games, it doesn't matter.
>>42792842>fat gamesPony feeding simulator where you spoonfeed pones, make plane noises, and pinch both cheeks when?
I also have an idea for a pony RPG I would like to make, but since I'm just an ideas guy right now it's probably going to be a while before I ever get around to making it. Or trying to at least.>>42792407I can't remember the name of it but there's a flash game that does "existing in ponyville" pretty well. It's just a point and click game where you hang out with each of the mane 6.
>>42787481Heh nobody enough of a degenerate to make a lewd one button game? You'd think it's easy.
>>42783550yeah I'm an artfag who would like to help a programmer/group
>>42789476Don't apologize. The It was a nice experience
>>42793039what's keeping you from starting your ponerpg?
>>42783209Impressive.
>>42792407Jusylt like most waifufags have a trait, I think this is one from most Derpyfags I know, often being overly verbose for some reason
Not entirely relevant to this jam, and also incredibly late, and maybe the devs aren't even here: but I just have to sing my praises to The Bartender mare game last jam!It was incredibly fun and the relatively large amount of cool content allowed me to do so many runs through it. It became the main video game I played through the late summer and I must have racked up quite a respectable amount of hours in it by the end.The atmosphere was so comfy and you felt like a cool bartending bad-ass when you manage to whip up complicated drinks on time for all the cute ponies, and seeing them happy with their <3 speech bubbles warmed my heart!A fantastic game that on one hand could basically stand up as a complete game, but that I on the other hand just wanted even more content and drinks and pony interactions for!
>>42793429No art, coding, or music experience. And I want it to be good so I have to try making some test games first so it doesn't end up feeling too amateur. Its basically just a dream right now. Like I said im a total ideas guy.
>>42793117theres enough vns that fill that roll
>>42793036>pinch both cheeksBoth sets of cheeks
>>42794227test games are a good idea. I overscoped a lot before starting these jams and learning how much I can realistically do in a weekyou're not really just an 'ideas' guy if you're actually making small games though, you're already a game dev
>>42794610unf
>>42793947If this is made in a good engine then it could be a good base for an expansion like Marequest.
>>42793947How do the prices work anyway?
>>42782660jej
>>42795418You set the prices all by yourself, which is part of the gameplay, and I'd claim; it's replayability.Ponies will simply not buy drinks that are priced too high. And being TOO kind to the ponies with the pricing (like I was at the start) sometimes means you won't make your 2000 bit deadline. With some experience one can strike a balance. I price my drinks at roughly what I pay for their ingredients (You have to land on good prices for harvested ingredients yourself), with a discount for bottles with several glasses worth in them. You don't want to fleece the cute ponies; I'm here to make them happy after all, but getting some proper cash rolling early means you can start stocking up on fancier ingredients and mix all the cool and involved drinks earlier in the week.A big tip is to start the week off with a loan from Filthy to buy the juicer, the starting tools and some milk from pinkie, so you won't have to sell just water for so long. That really kick-starts your progression.
I've decided to stop lurking these threads, get off my ass, and actually start making something. I have no talents, but I've got the entirety of all human knowledge at the palm of my hand. Surely that'll help a little
>>42796376You'll be able to do it if you try, Anon. It might be confusing at first so start simple. I would highly recommend godot. Gdscript is very easy to learn and there is a lot of resources out there. This is where I started a few years ago. https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/getting_started/first_2d_game/index.html
>>42796951Godot is the only reason i keep making games, its so fun to use
>>42796951Godot? I initially chose unity because it felt the one that had the most tutorials and the most flexible. I've never used Godot but, have you tried Unity?
>>42797025I actually started with Unity before Godot. It's not bad but I just find Godot to be more fun to create with. You can't go wrong with either though.
>>42796376Willpower goes a long way.
>>42798114Discipline goes even further
>>42792407>I'm sort of interested in your friend's pony RPG too, has anything come of it?Funny thing Anon, but actually yes- kind of! I noticed in the credits file you credited DShou for the pony sprite base. It's been so many years now I forget the details, but I think he started that so he could use the sprites in his own game. It was called The Parallel Elements, I think his old journals on it are still up on deviantart. The story was something about the Elements of Harmony getting corrupted turning the mane six into evil counterparts. You'd have to travel around fighting them one by one, saving them and having them join your party, with background mares, sidequests and minigame stuff in between.I'm pretty sure the game perished completely in early stages, but the pony sprites were open for others to use, so in a way something did come of it, even 13 years later. We don't talk almost at all anymore and I think he's exclusively doing anime art now, but I can try asking him about it.>Good luck with your (pony) projectThanks! It's.. just a green, but it's kind of special to me and there's at least a couple anons who want to see it continue. Not really relevant to gamejam though. Unless I wanted to turn it into a dating sim- but no- I need to at least finish writing it first!
>>42798241I wish there was some sort of magic juice that gave me the discipline I never trained myself to have
>>42798448I wish that existed. What helped me was doing one small task a day and just finishing it. After a week, I gradually added more
Hitting the small boosts, nailing the long boost-courses and generally just going Berry fast, all while Cherry is looking like she's having the best time, is super fun!Great little game that takes some finesse to get really good at!
>>42799399>vid relThat's nice, anon. Thanks.
>>42799399Pull up! Pull up!
>>42799399glad you like it anon. What's your best score?
>>42800719Around 260 000.A piece of crazy ice managed to give me a huge uphill part that stopped my momentum. I can see how one could go basically forever by climbing during high speeds and paying proper attention to the bad things!
>>42793117I wanted to make one but my art isn't good enough
>>42801581>my art isn't good enoughJust AI it. Same for the moans. Did you want to do anything unique design or gameplay wise?
>>42801581I honestly would rather have real art no matter how it looks rather than AI art.
>>42802341Agreed>>42801581I think you overestimate the standards of the board. If it resembles a pony, even if barely, it'll be appreciated
>>42802889>overestimate the standards of the boardAlright, I'm gonna make an anthro game then.
>>42803346Acceptable depending on context, actuallyIf its a love letter to classic anime then the board will defend it (see the shitshow with last year's antithology)
>>42786680Next draw dropped! We'll go with this. I'm personally feeling horror, but I'm open on which you'd be interested in. Choose which interest you for the next theme. If there are too few votes or there isn't a clear winner we'll go with scary stuff. oooohttps://strawpoll.com/xVg71mW4zyr/results
And another one!
>>42803488>>42803492I love these, and Time Crunch continues to be a mega cutie! Another thank you to everyone for making their games too!
>>42803492Thanks OP, I love it!

>>42803488R&R bros...
>>42806095It wasn't meant to be. Guess it's too similar to pony hobbies
Have you got an idea for a horror game yet, anon? You going 2d or 3d?
>>42806968Kidnapped by lyra and forced to have horrifying foalmaking sex everyday
>>42807592
>>42807592>Escape from lyra's basement point and click adventureWould have fit to the one button theme, add a stamina bar so you can't just spam clicks...
>>42807614presumably it wouldn't be a one button theme that time, so wasd movement is fine. So it would be a 3d game where you hide from a patrolling lyra, and need to solve a puzzle before leaving her basement. If you get caught you get >raped and gotta start over
>>42806968Horror+Rape to give you a whyboner.Your vanilla pony is suspected to be a famous murderer like The Axeman. She turns into a wicked mare of darkness Nightmare Waifu. You have 2 choices allow her to kill you during coitus or you kill her during it.And there's a 50/50 chance with some hints given that she might not even be the criminal. She drops hints that she's the criminal and practically offers you hardcore maresex in her nightmare form where you have a 50/50 chance she won't murder you.
>>42808536>gurocould be really cool if you focus on the horror aspect
>>42778618>Ghost image with Time Crunch shooped onto itThe fact I even remember that image makes me happy and nostalgic. Maybe I should check in on Radio Graffiti if it's still going...
>>42809427TRUE SOLARIST RADIO, VIDEO GAMEPHITTI, YOU'RE ON THE AIR
Twilight WILL murder her friends in my game.
>>42810488Twilight would never!
>>42809992FUCK YOU CELLY, AND FUCK YOUR SOL STAR BEER
What kind of games do you guys think would do well? I always wanted a paper mario pony game or maybe a mystery dungeon style game.
>>42811427A porn game with a good story that doesn't get in the way I think is the most likely to do well
>>42811452I've always wanted to create a pony version of Summer Time Saga. It would be a simple point-and-click game set in Ponyville, very close to BFED.Another thing I always wanted to do is a game where you summon the ponies to your home/office and gradually corrupt them, getting them to do increasingly sexual things. Similar to Witch Trainer by Akabur. I just can't think of a good scenario for that one. Maybe Anon becomes mayor or something.
>>42787321
>>42811813
>>42812246
>>42811526Ponyville summertime saga would just be BFED without a time limit. You need a lot of art for that.corruption / trainer games are fun.
>>42812597
>>42812812I'm surprised there isn't a pony corruption game, at least not one that I can find easily. I think it would do well.
>>42813744>you start off an Anonmare>its a world that's clearly a messed up Equestria, as if two worlds merged, completely upsetting the way magic works>Changeling magic in particular is about imitation and only Chryssy can actually transform fully into other creatures indefinitely>there are fruits that can transform parts you into Earth Pony, Pegasus, Unicorn, Kirin, Griffon, Hippogriff, Dragon, Changeling parts, your total transformation and specific parts granting racial abilities depending on how much and which parts are which race>maybe some other fruits (Bap, Siren, Breezie, Diamond Dog, Timberwolf, Yak?)>you start the game at a portal where a Diamond Dog attacks you>nearby is a gravestone>"For the Unnamed Champion that saved the world from Lethice"
>>42813830Dammit, I knew the beginning sounded familiar
>>42813744Since ponies are usually naked and are comfortable with it, you get them to wear slutty clothing instead. Imagine getting rainbow dash to wear hyper-feminine pink dresses and socks.
gaming is good
>>42811427>mystery dungeonFilly Rescue team. You play as fillies saving other fillies.
Pitch your ideas to me in a document please. Re-read them 1 day later to make sure you understand what the hell you wrote since if you can't understand your own writing after just 1 day then surely nobody else will either.
>>42813830A pony game inspired by CoC would be much better than summertime saga or an Akabur game. I am biased though because I really don't like either of those options. A CoC game would also be nice because any writefag could make it.
