yeah I think not being included with basic cable was probably a big factor. if you're going to have an exclusive cable channel you need to go the Disney Channel route: offer it free for a few days every couple of months, get the kids to watch it and then beg their parents to buy it once it goes away.

I think FIM premiering in 2010 during a time when watching media online was becoming a growing if not common phenomenon also played a part. Considering that the real audience of adults is also internet savvy compared to most parents and kids. Sure it was nestled perfectly between the pinnacle of internet culture but by then everyone had smartphones and PCs to watch their media. Hell you can watch episodes from 4-5 minute clips uploaded in the same year they aired.
