>>42935590For me, it's one extremely simple qualifier, that being if your OC can be put in the background of an episode like any old BG pony and NOT stand out, then they have a decent design. That, and knowing basic color theory, as well as what colors you'd expect from canon ponies.I can already tell you the one in your GIF doesn't pass muster since brown on blue is an unusual combo that you'd never see in the show, particularly when both colors are on the darker side, since the show loves pastel; even that aside, brown by itself is surprisingly somewhat uncommon as a mane color. Green as a coat color is likewise uncommon but it's pastel enough (unlike the brown) that I could potentially see it in the show.3.5/10. Not good enough to be passable but not so awful that it hurts to look at.

Characters like them are eyesores, don't make any thematic sense outside of being a power fantasy, and sure as Hell do not even attempt to rationally justify their existence within Equestria.

One main thing is that she kinda sucks at magic because almost no unicorns despites the odd traveling merchant visits her village. Only canon characters that exists in my writings are the royal Sisters since I think as sovereign deities they're kinda universally relevant. But they too are mainly just distant figures, everpresent in the world. I got this whole microcosm of little town written, 3 days trot north from Canterlot where all of my things seem to tie in.
