Autismanon here continuing my living Dash plush project. I just wrapped up the dock button install for my heartbeat simulator. I realized what a pain it was going to be to take in and out so I decided to upgrade the wiring with a JST connector. I had a bunch left over from my drone building hobby.

I sewed it back together with a doubled up nylon thread to ensure it was more sturdy than before, then I ran the wire through a small hole in the base of the dock to the inner body. I sewed that shut and it looks as good as new. All in all it took about an hour to finish. Stay tuned this week as I look at installing some heating blanket elements into her.

>>43005216The living Dash project continues with the implementation of heating elements. I aquired a heating blanket from amazon for about 20 bucks. It has three heating modes that are modulated by how quickly it switches current on and off, with the hottest being a constant current setting. The blanket has 8 separate patches in 2 separate loops with some significant wire length between them which will come in handy during the installation. The first concern is the temperature that the patches reach. Exposed on the hottest setting I have seen 118F...and the hottest temperature that minky fabric can handle is around 120-140 before the polyester fibers begin to deform and stick together. The best way to combat this is to insulate the patches so that they have a decent standoff from the underside of Dash's minky surface when installed. The inside of the blanket has a thick, imitation wool liner that will work perfectly for this. The middle photo shows the patches when turned off, and the right photo is with the circuit on. The heating patch on the top right is covered with the imitation wool and you can see it remains a bit cooler (the circuit has been on for a few minutes so temperatures normalize).
>>43017130The second benefit of using the imitation wool as a cover is that it will help prevent the patches from shifting around inside her, as I will not be using any stitching to secure them in place. The imitation wool seems to adhere to cotton, that combined with the pressure of the stuffing pressing it against the inside of the minky body should keep it from budging, as well as make it easy to remove or re-adjust. After cutting the fabric out, sewing up 8 pockets only took about ten minutes.

It's too small for the cotton infil to provide a solid backing, so I cut out this rough hoof shape fill from a sheet of memory foam I had. I checked the loop one more time for any unusual hotspots, exposed wires, or shorts, then sat down to install it in Dash.

My goal was to not have to sew anything in place, primarily for cosmetic reasons and also because it's a tremendous pain to sew when you can't see your hand as it's inside her. I did that when I installed the magnets for her wings and I wasn't looking to repeat that process.I had 8 patches to place and my goal was to feel warmth when I hug her, that means one patch per cheek (face cheeks), and one on her neck/chest, and belly. That leaves 4 remaining. I decided that I wanted to put the extras in each wingpit area (I want my hot sweaty athlete wingpits and I don't give a fuck what anyone thinks), and one on each butt cheek. The process for this was extremely tedious. I had to remove her stuffing through small twink hand-sized access port, then I had to access the separate compartment that seals the infil for her face. Placing the patches in her face took about 30 minutes because I could only fit one hand inside her and it took forever to get the patches oriented flat just below the surface. Every time I thought I got it right, I could feel a lump when brushing over the surface of her fabric, and I had to go back in to flatten out the folds or wrinkles in the pocket. During this phase, the added length of wire between the patches was critical because it allowed me to only have one patch in my workspace at a time, keeping the wires to a minimum and lowering the chance of tangles. Once the face patches were set, I backfilled her stuffing bit by bit, placing additional patches as I filled her from the neck down. Placing the button in her hoof was fairly straightforward, and once backed with a good bit of stuffing, it ended up being a quite sturdy platform that looks good and feels smoothe. You can see the green light ring here, indicating it's on it's lowest heat setting.

The temperature stays relatively close to actual mare body temperature which is a nice added bonus.

I don't anticipate using it overnight as I sleep, but rather for movie watching cuddle sessions.Seeing how well these work gave me the idea to potentially get a second heating blanket element to provide more thorough coverage, as well as make a dedicated sheath for her "adult pocket" so that it would heat up any toys you put in her, but I'll see if any issues crop up before I commit to something that involved. Another potential mod would be to find some way to spread the heat more thoroughly with the existing elements. This would likely be extremely involved and entail something like installing a heat conductive liner inside her. If you guys have any other ideas for additional mods let me know.
