Hello hello! It’s that time again, time for another GameJam!In case you’re not aware. We’ve been doing Game Jams every 4 months or so, mainly at the board cons. Why at (board) cons? Well, to showcase them of course, the games will be played LIVE with an audience at the last day of the con. Current time is Sunday 29th of March 5 PM EST, check the anchor in case the time changes. If you’re interested in participating by submitting a game, please go to https://itch.io/jam/mlp-marecon-game-jam-horror-and-edge and join! Please don’t hesitate in doing so, having an initial number of interested people helps me calculate the time I’ll need for the panel. If you for some reason don’t wanna make an itch account, you can email me the game at the mail at the end of the post Now, for the theme. Last time we did a restrictive one (which you can check out over here »42778618). This time we’re going for a more thematic one: Horror and edge. Does this mean you HAVE to make horror games? I don’t know, that’s for you to interpret. You wanna make fun of the early fandom edginess? Go aheadWanna make a rainbow factory adventure game? Be my guestWant to experience the daily horrors ponies have to endure on their every day lives (aka: running out of sugar)? By all meansThe theme is for you to interpret and play around with. So, to recap:Theme: Horror/EdginessStream time: Sunday 29th of March 5 PM ESTJam link: https://itch.io/jam/mlp-marecon-game-jam-horror-and-edgeMail: littlehorseappreciator@proton.me Please refer to the anchor for any announcements, updates in scheduling or any other important information.Previous Jam thread >>42778618Art by wapamario63. >>42997737FAQ:>When's the Jam running? As of now, from February 28th to March 26th, one day before the con starts. Thread has been created beforehand for visibility>Why give a whole month? We all have busy lives, I don’t expect you to work on your games for a whole month, just to make one in the given time frame.>I’m a newcomer to gamedev and/or I don’t think my game will be very good :(You’re among pone frens, we’ve had plenty of people dipping their toes into game making in the past in these jams. In my humble opinion, I think these jams are the best way to get started and/or get some practice. If not now, then when? The more pony games, the better!>I don’t I’ll make use of the full month to work on my gameBah, as I said, I’m not expecting you, and I don’t think anyone is. You could, but the main goal of these Jams is to finish a project in a given time limit.>Does it have to be a big game? The scope is up to you. It could be 5 second game and we’ll still check it out>Can I work with others to make a game?Of course! You can work solo or in groups, it’s not against the rules>Are there rules? The only real rule is for your game to be pony related.>What if I cheat and start earlier?Do not cheat! But if you do, then don't tell me... And if you do tell me I'll pretend I didn't hear/read it. I suggest you stick to the time frame. This isn't a competition, and there is no reward other than finishing your projects.>Can I submit multiple games to the Jam?Yeah, you CAN submit multiple; you're allowed to... But people normally only do one. I’d recommend you stick with one too.>Fuck this and fuck you, I'm doing my own thingYeah, I guess you can, and we'll still check it out on stream if you decide to share it with us. But I recommend sticking to the restrictions. People find they're more creative when there are limitations!>What do I win?A completed project! Other than that, not much. It’s just for fun
>>42997756>>42997770Nope, the thread is for visibility. You have to WAIT. Says so in the FAQPic rel is me for the past 20 mins trying to solve the captcha, sorry for the delayWhile we wait, I was thinking we do a little something together...>>42997737I wanted to do a little trailer for the Jam as a bumper video for the con, since I haven't finished it, we should do it together! The main idea I had was to show around one and a half seconds of EVERY game of the one button Jam (the last one), then various clips of games from past Jams. (The games themselves, not the streams)I was thinking you guys could submit the clips for past games in the thread and we could build the trailer together. (I'm open for any ideas for this).

Audiencefag bump. The game jams are so much fucking fun to watch, and when they are part of a con they are always a top highlight.Big respect and thanks to all the cool anons who can make fun games for free in their spare time, and to Zaifer for being such an industrious and entertaining host. Even if he can be mean to digital mares sometimes.
I will try to make a game for the first time.
>>43000125Familiarize yourself with an engine and make something super-simple like a Flappy Bird clone before the jam starts. You don't want to be watching basic tutorials constantly or struggling with compile errors at the last minute.
>>43000139What's the best engine if I'm only interested in making 2D games? I tried Unity a while ago but most of the tutorials seemed centered on 3D tools. Is Gamemaker any good?
>>43000150It's purpose-built for 2D and comes with a lot of built-in functions, but tutorials vary wildly in quality and you need a basic level of code knowledge to make it work well. If you know how to code you can choose any of the big names and you'll probably figure it out pretty quickly. If you're not a coder and have to rely on visual scripting, your options are more limited. I'm using Unreal with the PaperZD plugin to moderate success. Godot's system is more complicated and I still haven't figured it out but I like the datascript thingies. I have no idea about the others.
>>43000162Thanks anon I might give it a try then and switch if I'm not feeling it. I'm not looking to make anything very complex.

What's the demo time slot? Like 10 minutes or so, right?
>>43004270Why did he get a tattoo that says "My Sister's Protractor?"
>>43005619Yup! Though it may vary depending on the game. If it's a 10 second game then it might get less than 10 minutes, unless we have the dev on stream.I want to do the Jitsy chat again but with so many people on stream it might be a little harder, I might just hide it in the itch page when I start streaming, so keep an eye out for that.
Fully ai generated mare games allowed?
>>43008388Probably depends on how you use it. I don't think anyone will fault you for going 100% AI for the graphics, particularly since there's a time crunch (I'm planning on going that route myself). Using it to write some of the code is probably not that big a deal either. If you're talking about literally using AI to shart out an entire game for you, without any human effort being put in at all, that seems like it would violate the spirit of the event and probably result in a mediocre game as well.
>>43008388>You use ai to generate your graphics.>I use ai to generate my code.We are not the same.In all seriousness, although I'm great at drawing and animating and have a passion for games, I'm absolute shite at coding and I have no idea how you guys do it
>>43008705>I have no idea how you guys do itit's a skill you have to learn, just like drawing or animating? not that complicated of a concept
>>43008705it's fine as long as you understand what your ai is shitting out and design most of the logic yourself
>>43008388I think making AI assets is okay, I understand that making a game does require plenty of skills in areas, and people rarely cover them all. But in my opinion, something made by a human will always be better received, so I suggest giving it your best even if you don't think it's of "quality".And for code, just be sure the vibe code runs.
>>42997732So we're not allow to develop this game before Feburary 28th, but are we allowed to have art assets created before hand or is it meant to be 100% created during the time limit?
>>43008388I think anons should try drawing their art themselves! Wobbly mspaint art has a lot of soul

>>43014560Ey go for it! There'll be plenty of people on stream, I'm sure a good handful will absolutely love what you have in mind.Yes, it'll be on youtube as that is the easiest to stream on cytube. I don't know of any other options that don't constantly make the video buffer. If you have any alternatives, do share.>>43014604This >>43014609. Just finished making this game. Not sure if it would be able to get in. Maybe? Anyone want to give me feedback on it?https://the-wonderful-miss-pixie.itch.io/pony-fantasies
>>43017226I'd like to apologize if the download says something like the page has been quarantined. Itch does this annoying thing where new accounts get flagged or something and it gets passed after a few days. I made this account specifically to upload this game a couple days ago so that's why this is happening.
Question:Are crossovers allowed?I've had a partially-drafted idea (mostly the mechanics) for a Pony FNaF fan game kicking around for three years now.I'm considering making a version of that for this, as an excuse to do more practice coding (being the degree I'm trying to study for).(Originally wanted to make it as a 3D game, but considering I wouldn't have enough time between assignments to learn 3D modeling and make assets, I'd probably just do a custom 2D rendering engine in Python or something.)
>>43017493If you want to avoid that, instead of setting it as a free download put it in as free with donations accepted. You'll have to set up a way to receive payment and put in personal info for paying taxes, but if you're not actually expecting money it won't affect you much. The personal info request filters out the jeet scammers so you shouldn't run into that problem again.
>>43017226>>43017493Might as well drop mine in here as long as we're shilling other projects:https://glimglam1234.itch.io/twilight-sparkles-magical-crossover-adventure
How do you get games to run in the browser by the way? I've tried but I don't know how to do it.
>>43017551If you use an engine that is set up for it you can just set the option in itch.io when you set up the game page. Renpy, Unity and Godot will compile for web, I know that. But basically anything that has an index.html file in the folder and can be launched in a browser can be uploaded to itch as a play-in-browser game.
My game WILL be using blink 182 tracks.
>>43017226I ran into a bug. I killed the final boss with Luna dead, but the night guard landed the killing blow the next turn. It still showed the game over screen when I beat the boss.I liked the gameplay, though the jokes didn't really land on me. And the reward was a little weirdI get the "pony fantasies" now
>>43017747Spooky....
>>43017496> Are crossovers allowed?I don’t see why not so long as it fits the theme.
Chances of this being the biggest jam yet? Mind you, last time we had off boarders who found the jam randomly on itch.
I already began work on my gamehttps://www.youtube.com/watch?v=kCH_LgoH2wU

>>43019435Delete your project and start over from scratch at 4am on the day the jam ends.Guaranteed success.
>>43017496Crossovers are fully allowed. Go wild!
>>43018625Every Jam has been bigger than the last. I know the incremental growth isn't forever, but there's a chance.I don't think any of the devs were offboarders, I talked to a couple of them that I thought could be offboarders. They said they use the board "From time to time"Mind you, the Jam is already hidden and the only real way to find it is to use the board.

>>43020150Any feedback?
>>43020189I am aiming for marecon. I made the thread beforehand for two reasons: visibility and pone voyage. Last time I made it 2 weeks before and still a bunch of people missed it, so I made it even earlier, and I think a couple of devs are going to pone voyage (I assume they are rich IT guys), they can make their game beforehand and just post it when they come back. So for everyone else that's able to make their game in the given timeframe: WE'RE NOT STARTING YET. This thread is mostly informative. What's FOF?>>43020150Anon 0c0

Well, I have an idea. Now to figure out how the fuck to execute it.Does anyone familiar with Blender have tutorial recommendations?
>>43021267Not really a specific tutorial rec, but this is how I got out of tutorial hell>find a basic tutorial and get comfortable with basic tools, moving mesh and moving camera (the beginning of donut tutorial, you don't need the rest)>find a more in depth and specific tutorial for a style you want and can realistically learn(low poly? zelda stylized? environment? props? etc)>open up new blend file and get started on the project you actually want to make>get as many references as you can in a style you like (3d models, fanart, etc)>debug problems as they comeSince the jam is due in 2 months, and you're presumably a beginner at blender, you may not have enough time to make a pony, so maybe stick to stuff that doesn't move. I tried to make a pony 3 months in advance for a previous jam many months ago, and it took so much more time than I expected, I'm still not doneIf you want to make a pony anyways, make sure to look up character modeling tutorials so you don't end up with messy topology that messes with deformation, and use plenty of references to make it look good. Though I would suggest using a premade model for this.Low poly and stylized is much more forgiving with messy topology. If you can't find how to do a specific thing, watch timelapses of 3d artists whose style you like to get a general idea of the workflow. Also make sure you understand the import pipeline into your game engine, it's more complicated and finicky than you'd expect
>>43021267>Learning blender from scratch in under a monthGod be with you soldier
>>43022297It doesn't have to look good, low quality jank is great for spookiness. I have a chance!
>>43021267>>43021585You might also want to think about what your actual goals are. Not just "I want to learn Blender," ask yourself "WHY do I want to learn Blender." If your goal is to challenge yourself by learning something technical and difficult then it might be worth the trouble, but if all you want to do is make a game and you don't really care how it works under the hood there are easier ways to go about it.I've tried to learn Blender on multiple occasions and I find the interface way too complicated, plus I am probably the world's shittiest 3D artist so I don't get much out of it. If you just want a 3D engine that can get a simple game up and running in under a month, Unreal is probably your easiest option. Their asset store also gives away free stuff every couple of weeks so you can get a lot of props and useful stuff that way, saves you the hassle of having to make every single thing yourself. The current giveaway has a low-poly cabin environment and some medieval castle stuff that would probably work well for a pony-related game. For the actual pony models I think I've seen youtube tutorials for getting the SFM models and animations exported to other engines.

>>42997788>I wanted to do a little trailer for the Jam as a bumper video for the conSounds like fun, but including some funny moments from the streams could be exciting to the audience too.
>>43017551In Unity, at least, when you build the game, you have to change it to compile for web/html and it'll spit out a folder and an "index.html" file. You want to zip both of those up into a zip file, then go to your page on itch where you upload the game. There should be an option called "Kind of project", which you should set to "HTML". Then you just upload the file you zipped earlier and set how it appears under "Embed Options". The HTML setting on itch still allows you to upload standalone .exe downloads by the way.

>>43002321I got an idea, I dreamed a game and I thought I might want to try coding it but I'm a total codelet. It goes like this: there are four lanes and you're protecting each lane with like a shield spell and you have to guess correctly from the animation which line the enemy will attack down. I was thinking like a hydra with four heads from that one episode in the Everfree and spitting fireballs at ponies. The downside is, it's not very horror-themed. And if you block successfully, you get your points/meter back. I was thinking like a linear progression of difficulty. My friend said it sounded like a rhythm game.

>>43029194Godot has very good documentation, and has a good tutorial for beginners on it if you look in the getting started section. https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/For ai coding, I usually do this>pseudo code, write the logic in english first (if pony hits wall, health -1, gets dazed, etc.)>only one small feature at a time, and test as soon as implemented, don't get started on another feature until this one works>git commit when your feature works, and before risky moves>reset to a fresh chat when the llm drifts>keep simple documentation that generally explains your code, file structure and a todo list>always explicitly say you're using godot 4, llms love using outdated code>ask it to explain any line of code you don't understand>optional but try to type out the code you don't understand by hand for learning>If you're getting an issue the llm can't fix, read the docs

>>43043404Read one of the basic guides on drawing pones and do at least 20 pony sketches per day. Get started!
>>43042175I think I'm gonna piss myself.
>>43043984I was gonna post that eqg fetish song, but I'd rather not have to listen to it agian. You can just hum it quietly in your head
>>43043056Can you hurry it up? Im excited!
>>43045608Zaifer in TF2 said everyone can start already. Some anons already did. Just get something done.
>>43045721I didn't say that! I just said that I felt some people might've already started. And the only ones I could understand starting early were people like >>43014604
Zaifer in TF2 said that it's my turn on the xbox
>>43045608S O O N
9 days left! You HAVE spent the last month daydreaming about and overscoping your game, haven't you?
>>43047796>mfw I've been in almost every jam and never overscoped my project in any of them
>>43047796I never overscope, I do all my games on the last day, sometimes I manage to make more than just one arcade game.
>>43042175>spoilerwho dat>>43046531fuck that shit, we going gaystation tonight
>>43047796I will make my dreams into reality
Zaifer in TF2 said that he HATES cute mares!
>>43048915After re-watching all of his previous game jams and witnessing him abuse and be mean to several cute mares; I can, unfortunately, corroborate this shocking new evidence.
>>43049119What the FUCK!!!
>>43049119Those mares were agents of evil. You should thank me for bullying them until they cried and the game closed itself (amazing feature on the dev's part btw). My video quality used to be so shit, I don't know how you guys were able to handle it. Now it's improved and will be better, as shown in the previous Jam
>>43049119Zaifer makes abusethreads ucu also he commissions Derpy abuse.
>>43049378based desu I hope we get some more abuse games this jam
>>43049327The very fun times more than made up for any video quality! And I DID re-watch all your game jams, the game shill hour and drawing panels, because all of them are incredibly entertaining and fun.And seeing all the anons' games again was also great!
>>42997737If the mylittlegame.dev guy is here, please reply and/or send me a mail to littlehorseappreciator@proton.me. I'd like to figure something out together. I've got some ideas on how we can make a little game dev community
asking here because why notwhy is MareDare 2 not on hoers sale, Rakan?
>>43051509he is 2iq
>>43051509>>43051730Steam won't let me add a discount to MareDare 2 for the event because I released it within the last 30 days. There's nothing I can do about it.
Can you guys believe it? Game Jam! Just a week away
>>43053647I can't believe it anymore, its been so long. is mare even real?
Joining this. I need to force myself to make small projects before I get invested in another overambitious game that I end up giving up on.
>>43053647You mean it ends in a week, or it starts in a week?Yes, I'm a faggot and I can't read OP.
>>43053647>>43056024Nevermind, I managed to pop my fingers out of my ass.The Game Jam starts in 5 days.
Boo!
>>43056561the leaves of that tree are so entrancing
This project might be a bit overambitious for me. I wonder if I should go back to RPG Maker
>>43057353It's up to you, but my personal advice is that if you're on a time crunch it's better to stick with an engine you already know. If you run into huge problems that you can't figure out how to solve, odds are it's going to happen in the last week when your game is 85% done and it's too late to start a new project.
>>43057353It all dependents on one thing. Do (You) have a friend who's willing to help you with the engine or not. You can still do everything following guides and AI by yourself and solve problems with lurking, it's just that it will require more time on the fixing in an unknown environment. Just make more backups and have a fren to help you.
i'm going to tryhard so fuckin hard for this gamejam
So, can I make a game for the game boy?I want to do a bit of C, but I think I won't be able to push enough resources for areal "computer" game if I go the C+Raylib way.
>>43058438Yeah, just tell me if I need to emulate anything ahead of time
>>43057394I know some guys who know Unity/C# better than I do. Are these game jam games really meant to be group projects though?
Just had my first shower of the year. I'm so ready for the jam now.
>>43058796You just made a grave mistake. Ive been saving up my stench for this exact moment, now no one will bother me while I jam
>>43058726It can be solo or in a group. There's no rules for or against it
I have a very weird horror game concept. I hope if it'll work out
>>43058570If (and that's a big if) I manage to set aside enough time to participate, and if I finally decide to use GB, I will try to provide a web emulator. Apart from that, any GB emulator should work (like bgb or whatever). Thanks to allow these old platforms!
where is the super mario 64 marehackIt better be console compatible so I can make people watch me play it at neighcon and sunshine
Huh... how interesting.I am currently making a game, and it's within the theme but not the scope of the game jam, I've been working on it for bout a year now and still on the fence about wether i wanna make it pony or not... more on the side of "yes" for now but I'm leaving my options open.Hope the the jam goes well, a lot of possible creativity and inspirations to gain from whatever everyone makes for the future.
>>43059030Oooh! Spooky Daringiana Jones crypt adventures?Crazy Daring/Dash identity horror?Don't tell me! I wanna be surprised!
>>43060266Well, if you decide on pony and manage some sort of demo we can shill it on stream.
This outfit is clearly meant for warm weather. Any outfit suggestions for her to wear on an Antarctic expedition?
>>43061157give her goggles for the snow.
>>43061157Something like warm mare booties, a long, padded winter coat, but still just the same pith hat, purely for brand recognition.>>43061168Oh yea, and rad goggles! Maybe a scarf over the muzzle if you need a "fully buttoned up" look.
>>43061157Warm socks
Anyone else decided "fuck it, I'm gonna gamble with the risk that I overscoped this project"?
>>43061781Is EVERYONE overscoping this game jamare we going to receive creme de crop games from this jam thatll make every viewer cum and regret the 15 min per game time limit
>>43061794I believe it
>>43061794Maybe... Maybe a month of visibility was a bit much...I'm open on suggestions and critiques and the like. We can discuss how I run this thing.
>>43062334A month of visibility is fine desu, the jammers have been going up steadily
Less than 3 days until the jam begins and I have no idea what the story of my game is gonna be. It has never been so over.
>>43061794There's a 15 minute time limit? I wasn't aware of that. This is my first time partaking.
>>42997756>wait, so can we start making our games right now? or is there an official start timeIt's impossible to check that you didn't do it, but if you suddenly submit a game that must have taken a year to make, someone might start asking questions.
>>43062770The stream has a time limit, so each game is going to get 10-ish minutes. Maybe a little longer if it's really good and he doesn't want to quit during dramatic moments. You can make the game longer, but that's harder to do.
>10Should we let this die and make a new thread for the jam?
>>43063497I've got no idea. Maybe? I've got no other OP image so it'd be the same one
>>43063497Thread should ramp up once the jam starts
>10 againIn that case, let's continue.
>Page 10 in 2 hoursWhy is the board so fast nowadays? It used to take half a day to get to page 10
>>43064674I would assume bots spamming low quality posts
>>43061210Hmm...Not quite sure about how it currently looks, but it's getting there. It is most definitely getting there.
23 people joined the jam so far. Gonna assume there will be a bunch of later joiners too.
>>42997737So! Remember the trailer I mentioned? I went ahead and did the first draft, since there were no clips submitted U shids .>Why did you do thisBecause there are still a ton of people that don't know that these exist, and I feel that those who do don't truly grasp all of what is being made here. I plan to submit this as a bumper to be played after every other panel. The pacing looks okay enough to my sleep deprived mind. Then again, I did just spend the last 8 hours recording, re-recording, editing, and audio un-fucking this. Tell me if you have ANY feedback, anything to add, remove or modify. There's still plenty of time to play around with this thing.>Links (same video)https://u.pone.rs/gfkvtauy.mp4https://files.catbox.moe/60dg7a.mp4I plan to add an extra 10 seconds of credits, at the end, using this song:https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=xlcEiREWLRYI'll put the (awarded) game's titlecards, which will cycle. I'll mention all devs, the OP artists and the musician whom I stole the song from (It's lonebronyproductions, he has some cool instrumental stuff, you should check him out).I'll add that later though, as of now, I'm going to bed
>>43061032Sure, maybe I can cook up a semi-playable demo in a month. Got nothing but the basic mechanics for now.>>43065285I'd assume the biggest spike in joiners will be right at the end when they actually feel ready to submit.
>>43065321I loved the footage you used for my game. My only critique would be the final text begins to fade out a little too soon.
>>43061157a puffy coat
>>43065321Ooh! That's a very fun and energetic trailer! And now I feel bad about there being no extra clips. Do you still want us to record some now, even though we've already neglected the chance for so long, forcing you to tinker even more with the trailer? If so, do you want the clips to be short and sweet already, or like ~30 sec videos for you to edit down yourself?
>>43065321ill be honest i 100% intended to clipfarm for you but since the jam was a month away my brain completely dropped the ball about it sorry nonny...
>>42997732Suggestion: pony equivalent of Sonic Dreams Collection!
>>43066031>>43066323You could still help if you wanna! You can get clips of past games. I wanted to include clips of past games to encapsulate the absolute magnitud of these Jams.But... I don't really know where would they fit in the trailer. In the credits? After? Make another video altogether? If you've got any ideas let me know. Shoot for the moon, and you'll hit the stars and all that.
>>42997732Hey you're gamedevs, right? What's your take on this?>>43066712
>>43066975it's hard to capture the brilliance of Equestria in a game, writing/art is a better medium for that. especially since a lot of what we enjoy about ponypony is the social aspect! that can be quite difficult to model in a game, i suppose. and it trends ones mind away from making conventional sorts of games, maybe?and i think most gamedev talent went towards modding other games to have ponies as opposed to making our own, too.>>43050276i really hope whatever this guy's doing sets off. it'd certainly give me and hopefully others a lot of motivation to work on a big pony game
>>43065321woah that's a pretty motivating trailer
>>43065321Damn, that's a nice trailer!I would suggest to use AV1 and Opus, to reduce filesize (or at very least H265).But yeah, it's hypping me to try and make something!Friday night maybe?
>>43066975Easy.To have a good music, you need to be a good musician. To have a good image, you need to be a good artist. To have a good green, you need to be a good writefag. Now, to have a good video, it's harder, you need to be a good musician, artist and writefag. And keep working more than the separate resources combined. To make a game, you have to know how to code (easiest part), and all the above, for 10x the time.Either you work with other (and sorry to say that most fan creation brings very motivated people for 5 days, and then all but maybe one disappear without saying a word) or you do with what you can do.Compound with lack of free time, and it's a disaster. That's why it's hard to make good indie games.Oh, also because I'm a lazy faggot that prefer to fap or bingewatch youtube instead of doing my fucking game.
Every day I don't work on the project feels like SLACKING
>>43067443Is it really slacking if you're working hard in your dreams?
>>43067443why haven't you been working on other projects while waiting?
>>43067350Truth nuke right here.As much as i enjoy gamedev, the fact that I know once I get to the parts I struggle with (music, sounds, art etc...) My fried brain is gonna sit on youtube or play warhammer for whole days/weeks/months and achieve nothing. Then I'll beat myself up over how im a useless cunt and feel even less motivated to continnue and quit until i feel the motivation again, start something new, rinse n repeat.
I did some rough calculations. I only have 330ish hours to make my game if I work 11-12 hours a day for the entire month.
15 minutes per game might be a bit much, no?
>>43067669I have been caught in this cycle for almost 20 years.IA is really helping by giving "acceptable" ressources, but let's be honest, lot of other solutions already existed before (like open source / C0 images and musics).Personally, I find it hard to focus once I did the part that interested me (like the terrain generation, or the inventory system, etc.)Game jam help a bit by having small game, and thus not a lot of ressources to manage, and simple game mechanics.
>>43067969>He doesn't want zaifer to sit down for 140 days to play mare games
>>43067041Friday night funkin'?
>>43067443It hasn't EVEN STARTED STAY CALM.It starts tomorrow... Ish. 1 day remains!
It's go time
>>43070216first for getting started
It's gonna be a pain making vectors of the characters.Dash & Rarity in pic rel are roughly what the Mane 6 are going to look like.6 characters in a multitude of poses...I may have to resort to the Source Engine for making character renders.Especially since the placeholder Minecraft screenshots of the building will probably not have time to be replaced.
>>42997737And we're starting! God. Almost 30 people. We've grown so much...
>>43070319as a self-proclaimed fnaflike connoisuer, i am very much looking forward to this.
>>43065626Noted and fixed. It's now a couple of seconds>>43067041I promise I will look into that anon... For now the video is EVEN BIGGER. Though the final video will be on youtube for easy queuing.>>42997737I'm glad you people liked the trailer... Because here's draft 2!https://u.pone.rs/hdrzkajb.webmChange-log:Increased "Anon's 18+ adventure"'s clip durationDecreased/accelerated multiple clips for better pacing.Slowed down considerably "sweetie puncher"'s clip.Slowed down considerably and shortened "Time for ponies"'s clip for more snappinessFixed error where "sweetie puncher"'s clip wouldn't correctly go out of frameReplaced "Derpy delivery"'s first clip.Replaced "Cherry berry goes berry fast"'s first two clipsExpunged the fucking demons (sometimes sound clips that I did not add would play through the preview while editing, they would not show when exporting.)I'm... Not entirely sure about this one. Specially the end, let me know what you think(The colgate's at the end are standbys for missing arts)
>>43070474That's really good and I think you can ship that version easily. My only minor critique would be maybe look into slowing down the scrolling for the title cards at the end a tiny bit. Other than that I think it's perfect.
The horror...
>>43070216What games can we expect out of you guys? 1 month hype go.
>>43070966Gonna make another point and click game. I learnt a lot from the last jam so I think I can do it better now.
>>43070966ill probably make another shitpost one 2 hours before the deadline
You guys are almost done with your game, right?Submissions are coming in, your time is running out.
>>43070446I wouldn't get your hopes up too much. College and social life will probably eat a lot of my time away.Dunno if I'll actually have anything playable in a single month.
>>43071181It doesn't have to be big. You don't have to use a month to make a game, you have a month to make a game. Key difference. These jams are a good way for people to learn to correctly scope their projects. I'd rather you do something small and finished rather than a tech demo.In the end, you do you, that's my advice.
>>43070995Secretly playing gameboy past bedtime
>>43071519>>43070966
Worked all day and barely made a dent... I don't feel so good.
>>43071689Anon don't BURN YOURSELF OUT ON THE FIRST DAY! PACE YOURSELF.Make a calendar or something
>>43071714What if I want to burn myself out
2 submissions already. I'm running out of time.
If you're an NEET then an entire month is plenty of time as long as you've made a game before in 2 days. With today's technology you can make music, sound effects between 50-100 background art pieces in 2 days, as long as you're not perfectionist or do something stupid like attempt to vectorize everything.
>>43073313>attempt to vectorize everythingThere are AI vectorizers for it.
>>43069434It STARTED! I'm SLACKING!
I think the introduction to my game might be a tad too depressing but I really want to tell this story.
>>43070995how to unjoin? i did not finish anything at all lel
>>43073505Tragedy gives horror meaning, so lean into it just don't make it COMPLETELY hopeless
>>43073685>don't make it COMPLETELY hopelessMaybe I'll make a popup to skip the last bit of the introduction then.
>>43073629It started yesterday anon. You have a month left. That anon is just shitposting
9bump. Also, got a decent amount of groundwork laid yesterday, hopefully my idea isn't too complicated to finish in a month.
>>43074251My game is pretty simple. I'm concerned about how to stop my atmospheric intro from being too long
someone make a fluffy horror dating simulator
Anyone doing a sex horror game? I was thinking of just a visual novel game which wouldn't be very immersive, but I didn't even write the character/story.
>>43074523If I didn't have an idea I'm working on already I would do this.
I dont suppose anyone's got a semi-decent 3D model of a pony I could use as a base? I've looked into the OpenPony general thread for it but i dont think there's a way of extracting it. Modelling ponies from scratch and then animating them is gonna consume way too much time
>>43074701>a sex horror gameLike, you date a mare, but then she turns out to be a futa and penetrate you with a 10-inch horsecock?
31 joined, 2 submissions. This might be the largest jam yet.
>>43075495That and she's the murderer, but you need to do numerous playthroughs to catch her off guard and make her admit she's the murderer (without killing you in mid sex, without framing you and sending you to prison in her place, without brainraping you and making you murder too... and then you get to decide if you send her to prison, help her murder, do nothing or brainrape her so she stops being a murderer)She could be, she could be you, she could be the neighbor, she could be the neighbor's pony, she could be Pinkie Pie, she could be Twilight, she could be Rainbow Dash, she could be Rarity, she could be any one of us. *TF2 SHOTGUN BOOM* https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=lfecqxZM8h8https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=FRF4s-F1tRA&list=PLns7vvcEy-jD9o6GzJm33BBLtY5gkq-SR&index=2

>>43075757Do you mean like Ass Hunter?https://www.coolstreaming.us/forum/arcade/game/1485.html
bumpy bump
>>43075308>no way of extracting>https://ponepaste.org/8725I think there's a blend file somewhere in the open pony devkit
>>43023240>I've tried to learn Blender on multiple occasions and I find the interface way too complicated, plus I am probably the world's shittiest 3D artist so I don't get much out of it.Not him, but my first experience with 3D modeling was this:https://www.maartenbaert.be/model-creator/As far as complicated interfaces go, Blender is far from the worst. And it's well worth it for the sheer utility of it.Give it another go, you might surprise yourself.
>>43075772kekMore like a RE2 with Mr. X than a common enemy
reminder that if your game has non-normalized diagonals it's garbage that belongs in the trash can.
I bless this thread.
>>43076829>non-normalized diagonalsI don't even know what that is, so I think I'm good
>>43077234if you don't know what that is, and your game has diagonal movement, then you probably do have it.
>>43077267I deserve to move faster when I am pressing two buttons, simple as.
590 hours remain, remember to submit your games!
>>43077615if I stay awake for the next 590 hours, can I make an open world history based horror mmorpg (with AI dating sim elements and real economy)?
Did nothing all day... Fuck, i'll be luck if I get 4 hours of work done today.
>>43078266>4 hours of work done today>not muchYou're either humblebragging or overscoped the hell out. There is a full month left!
>>43078600Overscoped, lazy and rusty. It's not a good combo. I will finish this project though and not quit it like my others.
I fear and admire your guys' apperent infinite growth. And that fear made me respectfully ask for more time for the panel. 4 hours in total. That should be enough!
>>43077796It really depends on how much you want to embrace AI slop in your life.See this game?https://store.steampowered.com/app/1295870/Next_Run/100% AI slop everywhere: game design, title, mechanics, UI and art.I can guarantee that it took less than a week of real time to make it.If you want your MMORPG to look like this, you can make it in a month, sure.
>>43079376>AI pony slop - the GameGrim, but it will hardly be worse than Legends of Equestria.
>>43079196Will 4 hours be enough time to showcase all 55-60 games?
>>43079196How much time does each game get?
>>4308105610 to 15 minutes, depending on how many games are submitted.
Should we tell the rest of the fandom about the games/upcoming stream or nah?
>>43081302This would require several days of streaming, though. But it's better than hopping between games while spending just 3-4 minutes on a single one.>>43081507Why not? It's up to the other people to see if they want to see pony games or not.I can even setup ads for /v/ and /vg/ if this makes sense to the orgs
>>43081507more pony is always good
Spent the whole day fixing bugs but I think I got things running smoothly now, can get back to making actual progress...
>>43081507Ask the orga, but I see it more like a board event.
>>43081507this is just my two cents (which you should not respect at all) but i would say no, until after the deadline. i wouldn't mind offboarders seeing the games, but under no circumstances should they be allowed to submit them.
I feel like I only have a thread of an idea and no knowledge of how to take it forward. How the hell does NPC pathfinding work?
>>43082892It varies wildly depending on your engine, the game style, and what you're trying to accomplish.
>>42997770Am I allowed to use assets from my past games/jams?
>>43083088I say go for it. As long as you're making a new game and end product I think reusing assets, code, etc would be fine.
>>43082902Godot 4.6, kind of top-down and I just want them not t to bump into each other or the cubes that will eventually be buildings.
>>43083108https://docs.godotengine.org/en/stable/tutorials/navigation/index.htmlthe easiest way is to use navigation agents. put your terrain and buildings into a NavigationRegion node and bake it. This automatically cuts holes in the navmesh so your npcs won't clip into buildings
>>43081507I'd also say no. Share the games or even the jam later if you want, but it should be kept to /mlp/ until it's done.also bump
>>43081507I have thought about it, deep inside I have thought that maybe we could promote what we've got going so far, inspire more people by showing there is are more active game devs than previously thought!But... I don't know, feels wrong to promote it, paradoxically. I'm kind of undecided on the long term plan. All I know is that I don't want anyone under 18 in here, that only brings trouble, and the board is a good filter for that.
>>43084123>I don't want anyone under 18 in hereSo, we just need to avoid sharing on TikTok, Instagram and YouTube Kids.I don't think any other resource has actual kids there who are interested in MLP.
>>43084832I'm just saying, there's underaged fags even on here (/mlp/), and we have an age requirement. Going with a public announcement on other platforms would inevitable cause some drama i'd rather avoid. So I'm not gonna, my focus will remain on the board and probably board adjacent stuff....But if you want to go around and talk about our little event, I can't stop you, you know?
>>43085191I'm inclined to agree. We've got a healthy amount of people participating, we can promote the finished games and the stream once the jam is finished, but the jam itself should stay confined to the board. This is an /mlp/ jam, not a fandom-wide jam.
Slay the spire 2, mewgenics, new bazaar hero... my dev time is never recovering from this.
>>43085575for me it was the next fest
>>43085575>>43086124Guys don't get distracted now, remember to pace yourselves!
>>43085575>>43086124For me it was Claude code. Seriously, I don't remember the last time I had this much fun coding, it's like cocaine.
Most of the basic functionality for my game is done, can move on to doing the scenario now.
Locked in today and making some decent progress. Excited to see what everyone else is working on.
Worked a few hours and only managed to make part of the main song and a single character portrait. Its hard being art deficient
>>43087834if worst comes to worst, crappy art is better than no art.
Just doing one room background is making me realize that having to do this, *on top* of the code, will probably not be doable in a month. But dammit, I'm enjoying the little bits of work I'm doing too much to stop. Maybe if I'm lucky it'll all work out.Anyways, have an asset I made to make the office background feel less bare.
We're so back... now get back to work on your projects, anons.
>>43088342Is Pinkiematronic out to murder little filly Izzy?Oh noo! That would be just terrible, terrible if she started hunting down a bunch of g5 ponies!
>>43089276Don't worry, little Izzy drew this before the animatronics became haunted. And before she died...
Less than 20 days remain
>>43089671
>>43089671Time is starting to crunch
>>43089671Oh, I should start working on my game if I want to participate then. Thanks for the reminder.
>>43089671I'll start my game when there's a week left. Not time to sweat yet.
Very quiet day, you aren't slacking... right, anon?
>>43092092I wasn't. I finished the Office, and even got Fluttershy composited in.Everything might ultimately take too long to do though.Besides the three other characters I have to composite into the office, I've got six characters total, who have to be composited into at least 10 Minecraft screenshots (with about 3 for each location), on top of images for 4 locations that I can probably make directly in Source (with a little map editing). And I also need close-up PNGs to shake around for the jumpscares. And then I still have to actually program the damn thing in Pygame. This is probably more of a 2-3 month project, desu...

>>43092459>Well, I'm loving the look of it, anon!>>43092492>looks promissingThat's actually kinda nice to hear. Was genuinely not sure how well a lighting-adjusted Minecraft screenshot, with a bunch of pasted PNGs & greenscreened PNGs, would actually look to most people.Truth be told, I kind of hate the Source engine models for animatronic ponies in particular; they're too organic-looking, especially since there's no hinged jaw. I don't have any 3D modeling skills though, so I just had to make do and use posing + post-processing to get them as close to the intended designs (>>43070319) as possible.>>43092459Also I love that crayon Rarity. Would you be fine with me adding it into the renders? (The others are just whatever low-quality animatronic pony drawings I could find on Derpi.)Pic rel is a blank sheet version (before I apply my "printed ink" filter), if anyone wants to do make any.>I'm rooting for you! But don't burn yourself out!I won't. College & IRL friends are forcing me to pace myself. I'm also not strictly holding myself to the Jam's deadline or anything. I've been kinda wanting to make something like this for the past 11 years, so the Jam was just an excuse to start. Now that I'm started, this 2D alpha WILL get finished eventually.
>>43093789>Would you be fine with me adding it into the renders?Absolutely! It'd be an honor.I'm just a lazy audience member to these jams, and they are (by design) quick to do, so I've got time to slap more of them together, if you'd like.I noticed that there you have not added any Fluttershy drawings to the wall, and that she's crawling around in the vents. Does this mean that she's some kind of "retired" animatronic at the PPP restaurant, and would thus not have any of these foals' drawings made of her, or at least not displayed on the walls any more?

>>43093841>I've got time to slap more of them together, if you'd like.If you want to, that would be nice.Honestly I feel slightly bad for just swiping mediocre art off Derpi like this, so I was hoping to make some crude sketches to replace them if I had time later (or couldn't finish before the deadline).>I noticed that there you have not added any Fluttershy drawings to the wall, and that she's crawling around in the vents. Does this mean that she's some kind of "retired" animatronic at the PPP restaurant, and would thus not have any of these foals' drawings made of her, or at least not displayed on the walls any more?Oh I just couldn't find any crappy art of an animatronic Fluttershy, lol. If you look real close through the fan, you can see her on the Celebrate poster.Even if I did have art of her though, it'd be mostly blocked by her head, as each character's drawing is placed to give a vague hint about where they enter and/or how to defend against them. And none of the Mane 6 are retired characters, though Dashie is temporarily out-of-order in Parts & Service. (It's so she can have similar behavior to Fnaf 1 Foxy.)
What I love about these jams is learning new tricks. This noise airbrush seems alright at breaking up boring flat colors.

It's a mascot horror game! It's par for the course!

>>43096291this is genuinely shaping up to be really cool aesthetically. Not gonna lie, I'm starting to get a bit jealous of your project.
>>43092092Well... I managed to get the basics of all the systems for now. The dialogue finally works how I want it, and its very customizable. I won't bother with the UI all that much.Implemented an interaction system with a hold/press function which actually lets you open the UI to talk to them which is sweet. Getting the Dialogue system to work with the AI was a different pain, spent 2 days just trying to trigger the AI into following a path on clicking a certain dialogue option. After a full day of scratching my head level transitions also finally work as intended with the player spawning in the proper spot on transition instead of the default world position. Some simple fog of war that dissapears when the NPC walks in range. (Will be important for story.)VERY basic AI behaviour with different states. Moves around randomly on the map, if hurt runs away if hears a noise walks to it etc.Uhhh... I could expand these systems endlessly so fuck that next for me is actually designing the levels, see what works n what doesn't and adapt them to it. Importing the damn pony models and animating them which I already dread its gonna be so ass. There's probably not gonna be any sound unless i figure out how any of that works before the deadline.Textures most likely will just be just taken off the web and applied to best of my ability. That's it for the first 2 weeks. Next? Hopefully I can get this shit to actually look decent with the level design and pony models/animations and praying it all doesnt collapse under my autistic unreal engine abilities
Tried drawing a new angle and it looks like that anime meme, it's over...

I have no idea what just happened but I just lost my entire project
>>43106160Update, the original file is fucked. But I've recovered most of it in a new project.
>>43096291Oh these are awesome!I was already excited when I saw the attached image several days ago, but all of them look great!Had a miserable evening tonight trying to work on the game engine, so this was a nice pick-me-up.(As for what's wrong with the engine [pic rel]: I've only got 4 images onscreen for testing [one is animated], and performance is already under 100fps.)Anyways, did you do these in Krita by chance? I want to use the same crayon brush for signatures if I can.>Some of them are a bit on the nose, but hey. It's a mascot horror game! It's par for the course!I mean, let's be fair. These things probably DO look kinda scary to some of the foals.(Also, FYI, you linked both the first AJ image and the first Rainbow image twice.)
>>43106204Something similar happened to me once. Make sure you're opening the entire project and not just one scene inside it
>>43106209I'm glad you like them! That does sounds like a headache. I'm a programming-let so I can barely imagine. I hope you get to find some easy way to make it handle things more effectively.>did you do these in KritaNo, I did them in Clip Studio Paint. But I just used their default pencil brush at a large size and unga-bunga pressure when drawing (I even went full fist-grip with some of the writing, trying to make my letters as wonky as possible). I hope Krita has something similar!>pasted the same link twiceYeah, I noticed that after I posted. But I just pasted those two in duplicate, so there are no missing images.
