Should Twilight have tried harder to get Rarity and Fluttershy to realize they were having a misunderstanding despite the fact that she made a Pinkie Promise? Obviously Twilight was only there because the writers were sticking to the format in the first season but if we're ignoring that the episode isn't really about her at all, did she do the right thing?
>>43059853Unironically yes. If a problem must be solved by using an intermediary, then in the future the two parties will be incapable of resolving their differences without an intermediary. Peace and understanding can’t be done through a third party, no matter how competent nor how genuine the intentions of that third party are. The concept of a “pinkie promise” is used to explain why Twilight has to be removed from the discussion because it’s more realistic for kids to accept that a Pinkie will spawn and interrupt Twilight before Twilight spills the beans, than it is for kids to understand that interfering with good intentions does not always lead to positive results.Anecdotally, NOT following this episode’s advice and trying to act as an intermediary cost me a great friend and an adopted younger brother because of my interference inhibiting their ability to resolve their differences.

Twiggy would approve.I always figured it was a way for the writers to poke fun at the "this entire conflict is because of a misunderstanding" trope; because, as viewers, we feel a lot like Twilight, wanting to intervene and tell either Rarity or Fluttershy about their misunderstanding, but the episode can't continue if that happens either.

>>43060033>but the episode can't continue if that happens eitherSure it can. Ponies are stupid. We've had endless episodes about withholding information, lying, telliing each other feelings, sharing, caring and being disloyal and theres 20 episodes across 5+ seasons of it, happening for contrived reasons. Starlight reforms but mind controls or goes on a raging episode 24/7. RD and PP are friends but Dash lies about pies. RD is told Fluttershy is off limits to pranking but pranks her anyways. Applejack endlessly lies.
