I decided to look at this from two angles

violin. or theremin. I don't know. it'd be hard for her to pick just one favorite. she'd love thinking about the question though, about all the different qualities and sounds that certain instruments have; but she'd be hard pressed to pick a favorite. it would depend on what day you asked her

mellotron, or basically any kind of electronic keyboard; they have multiple different effects and sound options for someone like her to tinker with
if we have to cut the cord, and say no electronic instruments, then we'll give her a pipe organ

if the voice doesn't count, then i'd go with something gentle sounding like the flute, or maybe even chimes.

but if that doesn't count, then i'd go the EqG route: tambourine. maybe even a triangle. something where she isn't the main focus but still gets to be part of the action
