What do you think unicorn's opinions on open source magic is? Do they expect ponies to share their magical discoveries with everypony else? Do they look down upon unicorns who take their magical secrets to thier grave? Or do ponies regularly keep their magic proprietary? Or do they not care one way or the other?
>>43079291>open sourcefuck you ziggerit's FREE MAGIC
>>43079291I'm sorry, by "open source magic" do you mean free runes, free as in friendship, not free pie?I don't think ponies would particularly care. Keeping secrets isn't wrong, but sharing magic and using secrets about it to control other ponies would be, most certainly. Fortunately, Equestria has nothing like the Earth's copyright cartel, Princess Celestia can see something like that for what it is.
>>43079291Reminder that the problem with proprietary things is not merely that someone is keeping a secret. It's that there is an entire system rigging the game in their favor, if you recreate or reverse engineer the secret they can sue you. We're actually living in a very childish world when you think about it: "You can't play this sequence of musical notes because I did it first, so these are my notes now, I called it!"Despite being a world created for the entertainment of little girls, equestria is probably more mature than our world in some respects. I imagine they don't have any concept of proprietary or open source at all. You either make something public or you don't, and if someone else also figures out the same thing then they're free to do whatever they want with it too.
>>43079402That's probably true. I suppose I was thinking more along the lines of somepony creating a spell that cures autism but refuses to share it.
>>43079472I'm sure Twilight at least would have a philosophy of sharing what you learn. Preferably in book form.I'd say most unicorns probably would.
This is a matter of what you do on a computer. Computers are not present in the MLP universe.Although we can take Vinyl Scratch as an example. She uses turntables and not digital DJ controllers. If you have to use a digital DJ controller, do it using Mixxx on a free GNU/Linux distro. Stay away from Rekordbox, which contains malware that tells AlphaTheta about every track you play.
