Its similarity with Mare Fair begins and ends with it being 18+. It's not supposed to be Mare Fair North. It's supposed to be its own thing, with the focus being external events around the city.The goal is supposed to be that it appeals to the fandom at large as a uniting force. So /mlp/ users and offboarders alike have a place at the con. If you think that's ludicrous, I'd say HarmonyCon has a similar appeal. However, it seems to have grown more board adjacent over time, but that's not the intent. I'd say this stems from inexperience, growing pains, and the board adjacent staffers being more dominant while the non-boarders seemed to have stepped away.I'll admit that I find the intended ideals of NeighCon compelling, and certainly this will still be the goal for upper level leadership. How this will actually work in execution remains to be seen. I know what you're thinking, "if you try to appeal to everyone, you end up appealing to no one". True, but I'd still like to see everyone stop being bitter assholes to one another, it's pointless.So yeah, there's definitely been some missteps and bizarre shenanigans while planning. I think you can guess a few. First year cons can be tricky. But I've seen similar problems elsewhere, including Mare Fair. We're getting into the home stretch and I think at this point we've found our groove. It should be a fun weekend.

Appealing to everyone will never work anyway, considering we're still seen as nazis and offboarders are still seen as annoying faggots. I have no idea what the area is like, so I don't know how the "external events" thing is supposed to work.
