McCarthy was supposed to work on season 5 but left the show to write the movie. Thiessen also stepped down from the show pretty much entirely after the season 5 finale to be supervising director on the film full time. Then 3 additional writers joined McCarthy in writing the script. What bothers me the most is that nothing really happens and most of the characters say nothing or act like retards. Twilight is the only one that sort of gives a shit about what's happening and her friends constantly fuck things up the entire time. It feels incredibly out of place when releasing in the middle of season 7 where there're all of these characters that are now shoehorned into FiM. The storm king is retarded and his origins or where the rest of his army came from is never explained or explored. I'm glad Ingram got to work with a full live orchestra for the music, but man everything else kind of just sucked.

But it's not only the creatures, old and new, that were done dirty by giving them half-baked failed societies of nothingness (except for gimmicks that made them fursona-bait), the ponies were also done dirty by neglecting small yet essential elements that originally gave them an identity and made them feel like a living, high trust society of universal appeal and applicability. Some of those neglected qualities are the horsey behavior and innocence that have been distilled into Snowpity, but instead of integrating this lost essence back into Equestria, it has been extracted and made its own thing despite lacking in many things that had made poniponi poniponi in the first place. Including but not limited to qualities inherent to the ponies, for the quality of the average fan artist cannot match a team of Faust, Renzetti, Larson, Ingram and co. As for exploring ponies more: While I wouldn't personally ask for deepest lore about, say, alicorns due to preferring some mysteries to remain mysterious, I still would have loved for seasons and holidays to continue playing a role in the show. Because events such as the Running of the Leaves or Winter Wrap Up demonstrate the unique, magical connection between ponies and their land, and not revisiting those except for Hearthswarming Eve (while making it gradually more Christmas-like) was one of many reasons ponykind of the late seasons barely resembles ponykind of the early seasons. Hippogriffs were never needed to portray an adolescent feeling torn about which life path to pursue; a pony would have been just as suitable.To come back to your argument about appreciating all ponies: Despite the focus on an all-female M6 due to being a show aimed at girls, male characters such as Fancy Pants should have been explored or introduced more, and it shouldn't have taken until S8 (I think) for Spike to grow some tiny wings and be less miserable. I used to disrespect him, but he's actually a great character with some unlucky focus episodes early on. Stallions seem to be calm and capable, sometimes silly ponies, so it's a shame they were rarely allowed to be characters. Although I like the Guy's Night trio, it's true that Discord, Spike and BigMac are pretty much the only relevant males in the show. Starswirl the legend was great and ever present, but Starswirl the character is a complete letdown and I hate his boring ass. Fancy Pants was flanderized, and Flim & Flam always just greedy merchants when they could have been used more interestingly. I'd like to like stallions more, but where are they? Who are they, outside of their professions? What the hell goes on in the Crystal Empire? And mentioning Saddle Arabia was an unnecessary mistake, methinks. In the end, Equestria is a beautiful sandbox for creative Anons. Perhaps the many ways in which the show has not done the ponies justice are the reason we can't move on. I'm angry, I'm so angry and I've felt this and feelings of utter despair and hopelessness for years. I'm constantly torn between these two feelings and suppressing them just enough so I can get through my miserable life of going to work and home and back again week after week.
